  1. Hello all... I am wanting any and all feedback about this process from beginning to current...I am a divorced father of 1. I have limited support emotionally, but have decided to go forward anyway! I feel like I can not know enough. Anything you can share would be greatly appreciated. My first appointment is 3/17/16 and I could not be more excited, nervous, scared, happy...My emotions run the gambit! Thank you all for your input...

    post operative surgery meal

It all varies on your program.. Mine cleared me for anything at three weeks. I don't eat bread.. But that's my own choice.

Just before my surgery in June of 2011 and now 3 Nov 2011 around 60 pounds lost!
  4. It took me years to get up the courage to go with WLS (I weigh 500lbs at 6' tall). My surgery is in 2 weeks. I start a 2 week pre-op of clear liquids with protein shakes on Monday. Not too worried about that. Did Optifast before and have lots of family support. But when I read post-op topics it seems that a lot of people are not doing well or are unhappy. Getting hungry all the time, having lots of cravings, only losing a lb a week although consuming 250 calories a day. Is that only true for newby's? Are people unhappy that they chose this after a month or two months out? I don't plan to back out now, but I'm starting to become more apprehensive than excited. This is truly my last resort and if I don't have positive results I have no where else to turn. I can barely walk right now and so it will take a significant weight loss before I am able to do any meaningful exercise which I know will speed up the loss.
  5. I am I think 15 wks and lost 56 lbs don't regret a thing, do I sometimes wish I could eat something that I use to yes, but is it worth it to me NO so I get over it pretty quick usually just takes a look in the mirror and the feeling is gone... I can also tell you that I am never hungry I have to tell myself to go and eat... I haven't had a stall yet until this week, and yes it's sucks and I can't help but think OMG am I done losing weight, but you know what next week is or the week after when the scale moves i'll be fine... It is a matter of defeating your mind... I read some of those post to and all I have to say about that is some People need to make sure their minds are in the right place before having any wls, alot of our problems start there, it is one big head game...
  6. I do have a pre-op diet. 2 weeks high proten/low carb, to shrink my liver.

    Protein Powder

I just posted a thread on this topic as well. I'm on Unjury protein power as well.. nasty stuff. but they all are. But 1 scoopful = 28 grams of protein and you'll need it. I mixed Unjury non flavored with chicken broth the first week I was home. I went to Jamba Juice today and got one of their lite (150 cal mixes) and dropped a scoopful in it, and it was drinkable (I did not gag as much). Also, I have problems with milk and milk is an important source of proteine. I can't wait to go to foods so i can have my cottage cheese instead . If I ever even think about cheating in 4 months time, i will remember the taste of my Unjury protein and that will keep me on track!!! ha ha.. like Pavlov's dog.. instead of salvating, i'll remember how horrible drinking the stuff was. good luck to you. its only for 4 weeks anyway. so suck it up!)
  8. I had to do the stress test a few weeks ago and it wasn't as bad as I thought. The cardiologist told me there are two different categories of stress tests preformed. I was low risk, so I just had to have the heart monitor electrodes (?) stuck to my chest and walked on the treadmill. Every 3 minutes, the machine would up the speed and elevation. I was able to tell the technician how much I could take. For the cardiac clearance they also had to perform an echo heart ultrasound. That hurt a bit. The technician had to firmly push the wand into my chest to get accurate pictures of my heart. My chest was sore for about 5 days afterwards. All in all, I would say that the cardiac clearance was fairly easy and stress free.
  9. Nah none of those things will prevent clearance unless they are way out of control. I have a heart murmur and had to have a couple of echocardiograms and wear a heart monitor for 2 weeks to make sure everything was OK since I was newly diagnosed and got my clearance from there. Good luck to ya!

Contact sports after Sleeve and excess skin

From what I have watched on TV..I would wait a bit longer to really participate fully in all out contact. You definitely want your sleeve line to be fully healed and for me I was still feeling the internal stitches pulling until around 6 weeks. It wasn't until then that I felt healed. Although the other part of this is..you are going to be tired after the surgery with the nutrition restriction etc, so keep that in mind as you plan your return to the ring! The excess skin is a crap shoot..age, genetics etc..all play a part.

  18. I had my sleeve procedure on a Monday morning at 7:00 am. I was awake and up out of bed about 3 hours later. I started walking as soon as I was up....mainly to help disburse the C/O gas from my shoulders. Walking was the only relief I got. Walking also helped with urination and fluid output. I hate to say this, but I felt so much better after my procedure, due to an issue that my surgeon repaired (a hiatal hernia that I did not even know I had!). It seems some of my bodily discomforts were in fact due to the hernia. The aches and pains that I associated with my obesity, were gone after the repair. My nurse was wonderful....she was shocked that I wanted my yoga pants and t-shirt on, even more shocked that I wanted my bra and undies on on as well. I even bought me a new pair of slip on Sketchers for the event. That was a good move on my part, because tying shoes is still hard a month out! I figured if I was going to walk the halls, I may as well be dressed! Walking made me feel better.....and made me feel less like a patient, and more in control of the decision I made to have the surgery. The walking also made me want to drink the fluids that the staff wanted me to consume. One thing I learned from the surgical staff and nutritionists....the quicker you move, the better you will feel. One month out, I am still walking. Everyday. It is the one constant thing I can do that keeps me from lifting stuff and over doing it with chores. It gets me outside in the fresh air....keeps my mind off of food....and cravings.
