September 2009 Band Date Hi Diana, have you added your date to this post? There are a lot of us going through the same journey, banded 09/09. I think you asked about week 3 in another post? I'm looking forward to low-fat ricotta with marinara and a sprinkle of parmesan for week three. Also fat free refried beans with cheese and maybe salsa.

I'm new to all this and I need some questions answered
zentgrafwm posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm starting to get info on this system, and I think I want to get the procedure done. But I don't know anyone my age whose had it done and I really need some questions answered. A lot of social activities are focused around food. I know that my friends and I go out to dinner and talk about what we've been up to after we get back from college. Has having the Lap Band made you not go out with friends as much? I don't think I plan on telling my friends (at least not all of them) that I'm getting this done. What do you guys do? What is the post-op lifestyle like? What does your diet consist of? Is it hard to stick with it? I know this might sound like a question in school, but what are some challeneges you've had with the post-op lifestyle? Were you able to overcome them? How? If you're not taking in that many calories (though you feel full) do you ever feel faint? Is the port noticeable, uncomfortable? Does it disengage easily? I'm a baton twirler and there is a lot of movement involved. I plan on resting the for the first six weeks recovery time, but afterwards, is it easily moved? Help me out. I know there are a lot of questions but I need to get some honest answers to make sure I make the right decision. Everyone out there who has had success really inspires me. -

I have Fepblue and I completely understand the anxiousness! Best thing to do is get most of the items Fepblue wants out of the way. It is not consecutive but 3 months within the last year. Also get your PAP done, Chest XRay and EKG. ASAP. Also if you can schedule an appointment for a sleep study for sleep apnea. This helps move things along faster. Your surgeon will set you up for classes and psch eval. I found knowing what fepblue conditions are and having them done before starting the consult made the process go much faster and smoother. I had 3 month sup diet, ekg, labwork, Chest xray, sleep test, pap and mammogram done before consult. In having all that done my consult was Sept 14th and I have surgery Nov 3rd. From start to surgery 6 weeks. They don't really speak to your doc, they just make sure 3 month appts are complete. Best of luck, I hope this helps. Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App -
scared of failure
Arts137 replied to bulldoglover2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds as if you are 'mourning' food, which is common. I am halfway though my two-week pre-surgical liquid diet. It's hard to get started, but if you CAN be strict with yourself for 3 or 4 days, it gets easier... If you can't, you'll have to restart the 3/4 day 'detox' period over and over again! -
I had lapband surgery and it's definitely worked for me. I'm not saying that bypass or sleeving doesn't work, but I didn't have those surgeries so can only comment on the surgery I have had. I went from 215lbs to 154lbs in just over 7 months with regular exercise (40mins stationary cycling on a spin bike 3 times a week) and eating well (in that I cut out stuff like sugar, chocolates, cola etc, but still ate a balance of Protein, carbs and veg). When I got to goal, I had a lower body lift to remove my loose skin, and lost about 7lbs as a result. Since then, I have continued to slowly lose weight despite not exercising much anymore and eating 'normally' (meaning if I feel like chocolate, I eat it). My band still restricts how much food I eat, I'm very rarely hungry, and I get full fast. And at the moment, it's the band alone that is still seeing me lose weight, albeit very very slowly now. I'm now down to 135lbs. I don't need or want to lose anymore, so have been trying to eat more and that's a nice change from the last 20 years of my life! So yes the band works. I lost over 100% of my excess weight with exercise and good food habits (and that was the hardest part), but keeping it off is proving easy so far.

Program Fee in Knoxville, TN..HELP!
tennleslie1 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, I went to my seminar last night and even picked up my information packet. I'm ready to get the ball rolling. The only thing that downs my hope is their program fee. $3,000.00 Yes, allow me to spell that so there is no confusion (three THOUSAND dollars). Is that normal?? And what about the "consult" price. $300 just to see if they will even do the procedure. Is that refundable if they or the insurance says no to my surgery? And while I'm at it, let me just rant about the information packet. It is truly a pack that only college graduates can understand. There are words in there that I have no idea what they are or what they mean or even if they are English!! Do you think it's possible that if I were to call the nurse that they would sit down and help me fill out my packet. It has to be completed before my consult. I'm just barely out of the gate and already I feel defeated. Help! -
High protein low carb pre op suggestions
aufan replied to stephanie0456's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was also on that preop. I had 2-3 sausage links in the morning and for lunch it ranged from lunch meat rolled in sliced Colby jack to a BLT minus the bread (used iceburg lettuce as the bread). dinner was mostly chicken grilled with green Beans, spinach or salad with very little dressing. I still eat that way for the most part. Most of my weight loss this far (~22lbs @8wks) happened in the two weeks preop an the two weeks post op. Hope this helps! New guy saying hi + Question....
Firefly2000 replied to Firefly2000's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone thanks for your words of encouragement. Its actually Optislim I am using, not SlimFast, I got them mixed up. Weight loss has picked up. I am one week out from surgery and have lost about 17lb. However I am constantly starving and wanting to go grab a burger or something which I will not be able to eat after the surgery (will only ever be able to eat part of a burger). What is the impact if I snap one week out? Can you still recover on liquids or does it put your liver back to square one? Thanks, Firefly -
I know my doctor uses them for all his patients for about a week postop.

Hello! A bit about me, I'm 22, I have been overweight ever since I gained consciousness. (you know how its like you wake up one day and you're 14.) So about as far as I can remember, and according to pictures, even farther back, have i been obese. I'm 5"9. and 290lbs. I have PCOS in the worst way, and my doctor said that the testosterone cells are produced by fat, which I have a large quantity of. My insurance provider is FEPblue and from what I have read, as well as talked to the insurance company on the phone, it has wonderful coverage. I'm kind of terrified of my insurance coordinator, only because she seems very matter-of-fact and stressed out because she has a very hard job, and this whole matter is extremely sensitive and close to my heart and I find it scary to approach her and ask her things. So she gave me a sheet for a 3 month consecutive and 90 day doctor check in. But I had some out of town matters I had to attend to, so I got three dr visits in 90 days, but not consecutive months. I called my insurance and the lady said consecutive was not required. So I'm afraid that even though my insurance does not require it, my insurance coordinator will try to make me start all over and re-do the whole process because she doesn't want the insurance company to have any room to deny me. Also, my pcp..I like him, but deep down, part of me thinks he might not provide the accurate information to push this surgery along. I looked at the notes he has written online and he has brought up some things from when I was a minor that are troubling me. I don't know if he exactly wants me to have the surgery and I'm afraid he won't say the right things in order for the insurance to approve me. I don't know. I feel stressed out, and I'm losing sleep. and on top of all that, the financial part is stressing me as well because if I have the surgery by the end of this year, the insurance company will cover most of it because the deductible has already been met, but if I have the surgery in January then more out of pocket payment for me. Typing all this out has already made me feel better. But is there anyone who can offer some kind words of advice? i appreciate you taking the time to read this!

Ive taken diet pills off and on during my banded years. When I ve noticed a weight gain (+3-5 pounds) I'll taken them for a week or so till I can get my eating under control. I keep a bottle of tenuate (oblong tablets) on hand for these situations! I -always- break the tablet in half, I cant stand the 'high' feeling the diet pills give me. For me, 1/2 tablet works fine and goes through the stoma with no problems. Good luck!

Alexandra I've been following your posts and have a question. If I remember correctly, you had your surgery on 8/20. I'm right behind you - on 8/26. So, you're just 1 1/2 weeks post-op. Correct? And you're on mushy food already??? I'm amazed. I am just 4 days post-op and am on Clear liquids until next Tuesday, then I have a week of full liquids (Protein drinks and yogurt, etc.), before I am allowed to go to mushy foods in week three. I'm surprised that you are able to be on mushy (and soft?) already. Nice to hear though. What are the guidelines your doctor gives you? Your words of wisdom about protein are helpful. Actually, I'm pretty amazed I'm not starving right now. I've been having basically clear broth, Jello, fruit juice popsicles - AND a clear liquid Protein, which I think really helps. But I must say, I'm ready for the next phase. I'm sick of the clear liquids. Thanks for all your helpful posts. Mary

Venting can be a good thing! But putting yourself down and not letting go of bad feelings can damage your progress! Praise yourself for the hard work you have done. You and I are about the same! I have lost 61 lbs in 5 Months and one week. I don't have a lot of full length photos of myself before, and I am just concentrating on staying on track to get to my goal. This quote helps me, so I am sharing with you! "Make everydays goal small enough to accomplish; big enough to matter, and specific enough to easily know when you've accomplished it." People who do this consistently, over a long period of time, find that before we know it, they have accomplished something great, and so you will!

No Pre-Op Diet...?

Anticoagulents (Blood Thinners) After Cardiac Stents?
Mews replied to ElegantThumbs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The reason why the surgeon is probably requiring this is that Lovenox clears out of your system within 24 hours. I'm not sure if this is the case with Effient but I know that Coumadin takes about ten days to two weeks to get out of your system. You don't want to have the anticoagulents in your system during surgery so it's safer to use Lovenox. I can't see why your doctor would deny this as Lovenox is commonly used in the U.S. Also, if it gets approved by your cardiologist your insurance should cover the cost. I've been on it for seven years--I have a clotting problem that couldn't be fixed with Coumadin--and I've only had to pay the standard non-preferred drug co-pay. Out of pocket, the name brand will cost around $1,000 for a month's supply. -
LoL thank you all for these answers it has helped. I have only lost 3 pound since Surgery day which will be two weeks tomorrow. But i am down a total if 13 since the pre OP liquid diet so i guess that's good

Mine is located midway between incisions on my right side. The port is at least three inches from any incision point. How the heck the surgeon got it there, I have NO idea, and I probably don't want to know!

When I went for my first fill in June, my dr. couldn't access my port. I made an appt. to have it done under flouro. My port was tilted, the dr. giving me the fill was able to press on my tummy and it tilted upward so he was able to fill me. I go back next week for my second fill under flouro. I'm going to continue to have my fills done under flouro till I hit my "sweet spot". Patty

I am drinking a protein shake in the morning with milk, then having a cheese stick around 9am, eating lunch at 11am concisting of a smalll amount of food with a protein, fruit and veggie, milk at like 3pm and dinner at like 6pm. I am not hungry during the day, but can eat more than the 1 cup that I was told that I probably could handle. I am at 5cc fill. I dont really have much restriction. I walk about 3 times per week, but know I need to bump up my activity level. Could that be whats stalling me?
