Why is this ALL I'm thinking about now!?
KalelsWifey replied to KalelsWifey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Congratulations @@feelinggood! Your not alone, I so cried when my surgeon was speaking to me right before they wheeled me into the or. I have been speaking to numerous people who've gone thru either sleeve or bypass and the concensus is this: initially we are making these crazy drastic changes. Doing so much good for our body. Getting it healthy so we can correct our initial mistakes of more than likely overindulgence. When we reach our points of what makes us feel great, energetic, beautiful or handsome we can then introduce in extreme modification those little thimgs we once enjoyed. I've began to understand carbonation will absolutely ruin your ability to completely maintain as it is a main trigger for weight gain bc it slowly allows you to stretch your pouch and not allow you to feel the restriction of maybe one or two Hershey's kisses and suddenly you've had twelve... I love sprite. It's absolutely delish to me, but when I began this journey I said if I want this bad enough this is what will ruin me and set me up to fail so I can give you up! I'm glad your doing well. Three weeks out is great. I imagine you still on your moist, soft proteins, you can't go eat everything right? -
I had considered the lap band before but shied away because I really wanted to have my second child close in age with my darling daughter. So I spent the past 8 months trying and found out two weeks ago I am not ovulating due to my size. GREAT!! So my options are the terrible hormones that will make a raging pain or peeing on sticks everyday and tracking things and temperature readings!!! What a nightmare and the stress from that would make it even harder... JOY! So my other option is a drastic change. I've been dieting and working out for a the past 3-4 years with little victories and even bigger loses. So now I am doing the lap band I have my first appointment in July along with my first classes. I am excited and terrified. I'm hoping to make changes in my life that will help my daughter grow up strong and proud of me and that will help me to live a longer healthier life. csal,ld;k

Pre-surgery weight loss
highfunctioningfatman replied to Crafty Li'l Devil's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I quit soda several years ago and I hate to be a downer but I gained 30 pounds in the 8 weeks after I quit. I spoke to my doctor and he said that it was because the caffeine was keeping my metabolism up. I'm by no means suggesting that you keep your Coke habit but if you don't drop or even increase you might have an idea why. For me dropping the carbs has been the key. During Thanksgiving and the few days after I had much more carbs and I didn't loose a thing. On Wednesday I went on a lower than usual carb diet (normally less than 35 now at 15) and I've dropped 3 pounds. -
Question for all you experienced sleevers out there . . .I will be taking 4, 3+ hour flights over the next few weeks and am looking for some info on anything to watch out for, does the air pressure affect the sleeve, can i eat at altitude, etc. I'l be bringing my food with me on the plane so won't rely on airplane food. Thanks for sharing your experiences. A

I had my surgery 2/18/2014. I have been stalling for the last 4 weeks. I'm down 42 pounds since surgery. Has anyone else stalled this long before? What should I do?

14 Weeks Out and major stall
DestinClair1983 replied to ShayLove's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Maybe try to drink more water, exercise more. Make sure you're keeping accurate track of all that you're consuming. It could just be your body adjusting, maybe you're still losing inches even if you're not losing pounds, which I know firsthand how frustrating that is. If all else fails, what I have done and has worked for me is to eat more calories for a few days, for me It was anywhere from 1200-1500 calories, and then go back to 600-800 calories daily, and the scale would start moving again. Of course I would gain a pound or two initially with the upped calories, but when I would go back to the 600-800 range, I'd lose those few pounds easily and them some, and then continue to drop steadily...until the next stall hits lol. Good luck! -
i havent met the surgeon yet so i am not on any preop diet but i feel a little disappointed with myself. i went 1 month without any fast food and only had 2 sodas, well i just slipped again, i had mcdonalds last week and i had it again today. i was doing so well and now i am worried that i am headed down a bad path. even though i have slipped i am trying not to eat bad and am trying to be positve about what is ahead for me. any feedback? thanks andrea

No pain the last couple of days but these liquids have me feeling defeated...I have 2 weeks of clears. I don't feel like there's enough nutrients for me to even function. Just trying to avoid re-admission to the hospital at this point. Everyone who was sleeved around the same time I'd on full liquids and preparing to go to mushies next week...it's depressing!

Now that I've chosen the RNY as my revision surgery it was reccommended by ladiesassie to ask about Protein shakes.... A person at work told me I should drink the already made Low Carb Slim Fast shakes- 20 grams of Protein and -0- sugar..... Is this something I can drink right out of the gate? would it be too sweet for me? Also what other types of drinks in powder form are GREAT tasting? I don't mind blending them up as long as they taste good. I really don't want to lose my hair ( My hair has already thinned out from the lap band) So it's important that I get in enough protein to keep what I have left :tongue_smilie: Any in sight would be very helpful to me. So let me know what your favorite high Protein Drink is- It must be sugar free though- I'm sure it will be difficult to find good tasting drinks that are sugar free..... Hey you guys have a great Tuesday today!!!! Only two more working days left this week!!! Thanks again for your insight!!:biggrin2:

I'm 3 1/2 months out and hit a major stall around week 5 until week 8, right after the Dr started me on soft foods. From my experience and what I have read this happens to most people because our body is adjusting, especially after having a big loss. Our bodies are playing catch up. Keep doing what your doing, eat healthy, get in your protein, and importantly exercise, even if just small walks at first until you can build it up as you get further out. I have since hit a one week stall because I got a severe cold and could barely even function let alone exercise. My main advice is just stick to your plan and guidelines, try not to get upset with yourself (easier said than done I know). The stall will end though as long as you stick with your regulations and plan. Hang in there

I am 6 months post op down 68 lbs. I think what helps is the following- #1-Only weigh once a wk, #2-Eat healthy and drink water #3-Add in a little exercise (even just a 15-30 min walk every other day to start helps). #4-Be happy when you have had a big loss, but just understand you may not have a big loss the next week. #5-Set realistic goals, don't expect to drop 20 lbs every month, it starts off that high and then starts dailing back a bit so just be patient with yourself, play the long game. #6-change habits and recognize stress or emotional eating. #7-Keep a great attitude with how you are doing. Be kind to yourself through the process. It is hard to do!!

I"m 5 days post-op and I feel you. There are milestones and some of them are tough to get through. The decision to do this was tough. Surgery day was really tough. I was alone, haven't told many people and my husband needed to be home with the kids, and I had a rough time in the recovery room. Rotten 24 hours in the rearview mirror and, like you, I'm on to the next milestone. 2 days ago I thought it would be impossible to meet my Fluid and Protein requirements. The past 2 days have been a relative breeze. AND I feel pretty normal. I'm getting around fine, done with pain meds, finding myself taking probably gulps of Water that are too big and not suffering. I'm sure these are just a couple lucky days but I'll take them. If I have another week of managing my intake without all kinds of issues I'm grateful. Moving on to the next stage of the diet has me anxious. The upcoming holiday season with loads of social events has me anxious. Inevitable plateaus will bum me out. But we will be fine! I get where you're at. I also feel like the worst is behind me. The worse being a life of chronic pain, weight related health issues, etc. We've got lots to manage ahead but today let's say "Hooray!" We did it! We really did it! It seems sort of surreal but we did it and I'd rather deal with every challenge ahead than the version of me I'm leaving behind.

Average weight loss in first few months
BandedKitten replied to Ro-Jae327's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey There I only know about week one...lol. But I will say that from three days before surgery to day 8 i have lost 13 lbs. It may not sound like much..but what's more important is how great I feel. I can FEEL the 13lbs gone and what's absolutely the best feeling in the world is for the first time in YEARS I feel very hopeful. I really had lost hope about losing weight--truthfully I had just given up. And now I am losing and feel certain I'll make it to my goal including all the ups and downs and plateaus and stucks..I'll get there. So even though you may not be exactly the size you want to be by the end of the summer---if you follow the instructions..you'll likely to feel great about your progress. Good luck! -
To break a stall you may have to heat MORE. It's counter-intuitive, but your metabolism may have gone into "starvation mode" hanging on to as much as possible. You may still lose inches during a stall and your body will eventually catch up. To speed up the process, try increasing your daily calorie consumption to 1000-1200 for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

The average is 1-2 pounds a week. Keep in mind: That's an AVERAGE (which means some lose faster, some more slowly) AND...it's not steady. You won't get the band and start dropping 1-2 pounds a week. It happens when it happens and depends on you, your fill level, your surgeon, what diet you choose (as in healthy or not so) etc etc. So that's just a rule of thumb.

Do you tell people?
motherof5 replied to amandall27's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
MY husband, children, fav cousin, fav auntie, brother and mother know. I didn't tell anyone else because I didn't want to hear any negative about the WLS. My mom is totally against it and at first I was not going to tell her that I was finally going to do it. I was going to wait until afterwards and she can see the results from my decision. But my hubby advised me to tell her and she was in opposition of it straight out. I am 39 years old and my mother out right said, "You are not getting the surgery." I just had to laugh a little because I was surprised at how she said it. Well, while I was visiting her a few weeks back, I did not mention it anymore. Guess what mother, I am getting the surgery. Some people put it on social media but for me this is a personally matter and I prefer to tell only close and sincere relatives at this time. Some people are just down right noisy and just want to talk and others just want to get some info for themselves. Of course, the choice is yours. -
I think this is something that I am fearful of as well. I have my surgery this Thursday and I almost feel like I will be a major failure because I'll find a way to 'cheat' somehow. I do have a therapist that I see weekly which I decided to start seeing the same week I decided to undergo lap band surgery back in September. How well did you do with your pre-op liquid diet? I keep cheating, the Protein Shakes just taste like crap. I find more often days than not I will skip a Protein Shake only to over-eat for dinner time (the one time I AM allowed non-liquids).

Put your thinking caps on cos this is a doozy
Italiancurves replied to leslie1958's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Omg, I was thinking I was the only one. My surgery is still 5 weeks away and lately I'm finding that I really only want to eat protein, primarily liquid. Certain foods are making me nausios (that never happens) and wait... You'll love this... I'm even getting heartburn or acid reflux (haven't had that since my last pregnancy, 21 yrs ago). I was thinking I'm having sympathy pains for all the other ppl in the forum, lol. But as another poster said: it's our minds and body's changing... Getting ready for our new lives! Crazy, eh ? Good luck on your special day. -

When Will I Start Losing?
Ryokokitty replied to Looking Ahead's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked this same question last week. Everyone was very helpful and it really just takes time for your body to heal. I think its from all the pain and stress from the surgery that I wanted some results right away. I also worried that I was doing something wrong. Don't worry at it -

Restriction after a fill
babekopp replied to jane uk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a fill and two weeks later had restriction. As a matter of fact, I have been in massive pain since. Its been a roller coaster where one day I can eat smashed/mashed and the next day I can eat soft veggies and meats - but the next day I cant keep liquids down. I have a call into my surgeon and hope that I can get .5 cc removed -
just like everyone said. everyone is different. i was pretty sore after my band. of course it didnt help that i got my period (tmi?) just a few days afterwards so i think that added to the pain. i would be careful tho. i was 2 days post op and i thought i was fine so i went to take a shower and ended up banging on the wall for my mom. i was dizzy, light headed, and could barely walk. i just tried to do to much to soon. so take things slow. i would say a week after and i was bad to normal.

The gas pain is from gas trapped around your diaphragm that sends pain signals. From what I understand, GasX doesn't help that kind of gas. The best thing to do is walk around. It can take up to a week for the gas to dissipate.

Lots of rest, adapting to your healing body, soreness. During the first week I switched from liquids to full liquids, started trying to hit my numbers with Protein and Water intake and getting a schedule for all of my Vitamins. I was sore but had no pain. Did find it difficult to sleep in my bed the first week, others have no problems. Good luck!
