Where did you get your multivitamin?
terry1118 replied to jens1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought Flintstones Complete from Walmart. Last week CVS had "buy one get one free" on Nature Made vitamins. I bought out all the B-12 Sublingual from three local CVS stores. I found the Celebrate Calcium Citrate with vitamin D chewables at Faunce Corner Nutrition in North Dartmouth MA,(which they had in several flavors). They have a fair selection of bariatric products in addition to workout and diet suppliments. They also have unflavored whey protein isolate that I want to try adding to soups after surgery. They do online sales too. -

Not Again- I Hit That Wall Hard
JayhawkJess33 replied to Lilu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lissa, I'm thankful you have a caring and competent surgeon too, considering he is also mine!!! LOL Seriously though, every time I read something about Dr. D I feel more and more that I made the perfect decision to go with him ) Lilu, I am so sad to see how much you are hurting because of this - I know I would feel the same as you even if I knew it was for the greater good in the long run. I read a quote from a poster this week that was something like "Keep your goal in mind and the bumps in the road won't matter" and I have thought back to that many times since. I think it is fitting for you too - I know it seems impossibly hard to stay positive right now and believe that it will, in fact, happen. My surgery can't come fast enough (I don't have a date and am so anxious to move forward I can't hardly stand myself!) so I know how frustrating more obstacles must be but really think about what the other posters have said. You want to be your healthiest for surgery and look at Lissa's situation - the extra time and hoops literally saved her life by preventing those clots from circulating. Keep coming here for support and answers to your questions - we will all get through it, one day at a time! -
Not Again- I Hit That Wall Hard
Lilu replied to Lilu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I want to thank you for your kind words. But the hurt is to big now. I was told if they find stones they will moves the surgery to another date. Where I am it takes at least three months to see a specialist and then about another month of taking meds and jumpping thru hoops. I have not been able to work. I am starting to develope a fear for doctors because when I go they always find something wrong. Another thing to add to my list of illness I have. Neverforme like always -
I don't know what type of Tricare you have but my first appointment with my primary care doctor (addressing weight loss surgery possibilities) was August 19, 2013 and my surgery date is January 16, 2014. I have Tricare Prime. All I had to do was: (in no particular order) 3 dietician appointments, exercise physiologist, 5 documented support groups, information session, sleep study, psychological evaluation and I was approved two weeks after my initial doctor appointment. As far as showing failed attempts of weight loss programs, all I had to do was write them down. I hope all works out for you. I've been on a 20 year diet it seems and my weight loss surgery journey has taken me 4.5 months. Good luck to anyone who reads this!!!

The info packet I got from the surgery center in Detroit says...2 weeks before surgery, replace two meals a day with a protein drink? Anybody know why? I'm willing to do it (I'm willing to do ANYTHING to get my weight down!) but just want to know why. Also, most of the posts have a cute little....ruler?...with the weight and loss and BMI etc at the bottom of the post. How can I get one too?

Keri1019 replied to kell911's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Travelher when did you have your bypass did you have to travel to your surgeon? Did you have any post op problems the first 9 days? I have to travel to Vegas then I have a home about an hour away. I am staying there until post op day 9. I am then traveling to see my girl in her last home college basketball game senior night. I will be staying a week there then flying home to Montana. What do I need to take on this journey? What should I be aware of?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Considering a Lap-Band? Self-Pay? Something to think about!
MRSJLH posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In 2009, I paid for my own Lap-Band as my insurance did not cover it. I just got out of the hospital less than a month ago after spending several weeks in the hospital for open abdominal surgery to remove the band, repairs to my stomach, and treatment with multiple heavy duty antibiotics and other IV meds. My medical bills are stacking up and at this point are nearly $600,000. I am covered by mine and my husbands insurance and one insurance is refusing to pay and the other is questionable. This may ruin us financially for the rest of our lives. If your policy doesn't cover WLS, pretty good chance there will be an exclusion for complications. I hope this saves some one the misery I am going through. -
a few post op questions
elcee replied to karmaandkismet's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Not drinking with meals is something you get used to a lot quicker than you expect.Just make sure you have had a drink before you eat. They generally recommend 30 min before but there doesn't seem to be a scientific basis to this. I often have a drink 5 min before I eat. That hour will go a lot quicker than you expect. I went back to work just under a week later. But everyone's recovery is different and it also depends on the type of job you do. Good luck with your journey. -
Ketosis induced headaches?
JourneyGirl replied to dancinglamb's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was fortunate to have been sick and only able to drink Water for the full week prior to my start of the LRD. So while being ill I went through the awful headachs and everything else that goes with the low carbs. This will pass, even though it stinks. I will say that now that the coffee, pop, caffeine, carbs, etc are gone from my daily intake I have more energy then I have had in years!! Fat or not I have energy!! Good luck and keep your chin up. It will pass soon!! -
One of the things that was mentioned in the seminar that I attended was that you're not supposed to drink any liquid for an hour after you eat so that the liquid doesn't push the food on through and thus defeat the purpose of the slow digestion of the food. I was wondering how people are doing with this? I don't drink a lot when I'm eating, but I do have a few sips with a meal. Its hard for me to imagine not drinking at all for a full hour. My other questions is how long people were out of work afterwards. I'm an RN who works 12 hour shifts. I've heard it takes about a week of recovery but when it comes time for my surgery, I want to make sure that I give myself enough time to heal before I go back to running up and down the hallways for 12 hours at a time.

18 hours flight? Two week post op!
Fallenangel2904 replied to Talool's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a 4 1/2 hour bus rise 2 weeks post op and I was alright. Pain wise I was fine. I would suggest getting up and going to the bathroom every few hours just to keep moving, but I think it's doable. At 2 weeks out 95 percent of my pain was gone, I still had a bit of soreness to the touch but that was it. I think you should be okay just take it easy! -
Ok like the other three threads... I'm sure you are fine.
-
Wow, that's amazing! You must be thrilled! Congrats to you! I'm three weeks, 2 days post op, and have lost 30 lbs. My clothes are much loser and I can wear stuff that was too small for me. I'm currently in a stall, though.

Registered Nurse Sleevers!
cprince1975 replied to doneganregime1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I work L&D. My surgeon suggested 6weeks off for nurses due to lifting, strenuous 12 hr shifts and feeling better after being able to eat foods instead of liquids. My surgery is Monday and I've taken his advice. 6 weeks for this girl! -
I weighed 190.6 this a.m. My new goal is to be safely under 190 by Christmas morning. That will make 60 lbs. in 5 months 3 weeks. WOW
