Hi all, Well, my insurance policy (which the insurance lady walked me through) says two different things so it appears as though my surgery is stalled for awhile. I thought I was going to get it in Jan and now it looks like anywhere from March to June!!!!!! So very bummed...will this ever happen? Now I have alot more hoops I have to go through (and my husband too)! Boo hoo!!!!! Tracy

Disapointed but hopeful???
hopeandfaith replied to Bemabound's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tracy I had to do three months of weight loss managment too! I did it for a year but not EVERY FOUR WEEKS so it didn't count. NOW I went in Oct, Nov, Dec but they want me to weigh in ONE MORE TIME in January! I also had to get my last 5 YEARS from my doctor to PROVE I've been over weight! NOW I WAIT to see if they will approve me! I went in Aug, Oct, Nov, and Dec so I'm HOPING this will SATISFY THEM!! I honestly think they just want to WAIT for the new year and I have to meet my deductable again!!! GRRRR Anyway, to answer one of your questions I was told by my Doctors office that my insurance doesn't care if I lose weight or not. I have BCBS of OKLA. I have read where if you get under a certain BMI then they won't approve you but I have a HIGH BMI! Hope this HELPS! There are SEVERAL of us on the WAITING TRAIN....HOPING to get to ONEDERLAND!!! -
Hi Tonya, You have a lot going on right now. I wonder if you switched to Protein shakes for a couple of days if the feeling would go away. I had my gallbladder out in November and tolerate meat just fine. I was eating steaks a few weeks later. Do you think any of this might have to do with anxiety about your surgery? It doesn't seem like a trip to your PCP would hurt anything. I'd tell your surgeon about your gum, but I bed they'd see it anyhow. It's probably in the part of your stomach that will be cut away. I've never heard of gum staying for 5 years. Good luck and I hope you find something that comforts you so you can relax before surgery.

I started using a straw at about three weeks. I find I can sip and get less air with the straw. My surgeon was concerned that using straws will cause air and gas issues. Since I don't have that problem there isn't a concern using a straw. I recommend following your surgeons guidelines until you can talk with him or her about it.

I was sleeved Aug 21,13, so I am 6 1/2 weeks out. I have lost 27 pounds and am happy with this amount. My diet has been mostly protein and some carbs from veggies. My problem or concern is the amount that I can eat. I can easily take in 3/4 of a cup of food, for example, tuna 2oz and cottage cheese together =1/2 cup and peas 1/4cup, all together. I am full after eating it and my calories are low,but I a worried about my restriction. How much can you all eat after 6 weeks? I have to worry about something?

How much can you eat?
Justinh125 replied to barbmeow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly it depends on the specific food. For some reason, some foods seem to "stick" more than others... What you're describing sounds pretty normal. Remember that doctors use different size boughies to "size" your sleeve. The way my surgeon explained it in my 6-week follow up last Monday, there's no wrong or right size...some prefer smaller while others go larger. -
4 weeks! You look Fab!

Pre-op diet has begun
PorkChopExpress replied to mzvanessa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a grueling diet, but stay disciplined...there's a time limit on it. In a couple weeks, you won't feel hunger anymore and you'll be just fine! Just remember that now is the time where you start re-training your brain. It's going to take time. -

Thought that I might join in, today is my 2 week post op anniversary. Pureed chili is something everyone needs to eat. I know that Elizabeth has a lot of support in this forum so that I figured I might as well get in on the action.:cursing:

1/2cup of food
Spiceyfrog replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't be alarmed, because everyone is different.....but I was only able to eat 1/2 of a scrambled egg and it wasn't until around 12 weeks. I am four months post op and still can only eat 1/2C at a time. Like the previous poster mentioned, most amounts are maximum recommendations. So, just because you are not full (you most likely will not have a "full" feeling because the nerves that were cut in your stomach are not healed), you likely are also not hungry. It does get easier and you experiment and get things figured out, hang in there! -
1/2cup of food
heather5565 replied to sarahbethemails's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 weeks gastric bypass and my SUGGESTED diet plan intake amounts for an egg is 1/4-1/2 cup. But the operative word is "suggested." You don't have to eat what the diet plan says. Most likely you may never will. I have not once been able to eat the suggested amount. You have to slow down and really concentrate on what your body is telling you. I stop when all of a sudden I have this overall body "blah" feeling, or when I look at my meal and think "meh, I'm done." Remember your brain has to catch up to your stomach to realize it's full... by that time it could be too late; your stomach could be over full and you might find yourself unwell and/or experiencing dumping syndrome. Good luck and keep working with your tool -
Pre Op Question - Needing Some Feedback Please

I also would veto walking and picking up your son - my Dr. wouldn't let me drive when I was taking any pain meds at all - I waited about a week but even after 3 weeks I wouldn't want to drive more than a couple of hours. -
Surgery 3/23 and not feeling so good
jujuvee replied to kathyv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
kathy V have you dressed up your protein drinks to make them a bit tastier? I know they are all sweet options but you can add stuff like sugar free instant pudding mixes to play with the flavor and different crystal light powders as well. I was banded on the 24th and have a big selection in my phase 1 (days 2-14) that I can have but I am keeping it simple for this week, here is what I have been having. B- 2 oz cream of wheat, with a touch of brown sugar S-protein drink with vanilla protein powder, banana pudding powder, blended with ice L- 2 oz unsweetened applesauce S- another protein drink, this one with protein powder(vanilla) and the orange crystal light D- 2 oz cream of chicken soup I can have refried beans, cottage cheese and a softly scrambled egg, but I am going to wait until I am a week in to introduce those. Good luck and feel free to write anytime. -
3 month Surgiversary!!!
wkeller818 replied to Kimberlina's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My name is Wes and I am just a week away from my 3 month anniversary and feel so much better also. I am down 95 pounds total including my 3 week preop diet. I still have about 90 to 100 before my goal, but already a major difference in the way I feel and look. Everytime I see someone I haven't seen since my surgery, It gives me great satisfaction to see their reaction. I will post before and after pics when I get closer to my goal weight. I do go to the gym for about a 45 min workout every morning and it gets easier every day. I was wearing size 52pants and already in 42, my shirts were 4x and now comfortably in 2x. So the moral of this story to anyone contemplating the surgery is it is AWESOME!!! Congrats!!! -
I didn't like any thing hot so I drank protine shakes and water first week!!

I was banded 6 weeks ago, and had my first fill almost 3 weeks ago. Since my fill I have noticed that every time I eat, no matter what it is, I get gas. It's not uncomfortable, but it's kind of embarassing. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hi Jskelly. I was having the same problem. I called my nurse and they had me switch from non-fat milk to almond milk. They say I am most likely intolerant now. I had a really difficult time with eating post surgery. So I tried so many different things. Sugar free pudding, soup, popsicles. Split pea is what I lived on for the first 2 weeks. I just started the squishy stage and things seem to be ok so far. I just c as not tell if I'm full or not and it scares me to eat. I did learn that getting the hiccups is a way of your body telling me to stop eating. I wish you luck. It does get easier. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Tomorrow I'll be two weeks out and I'm absolutely exhausted all the time. Mind you I was up late last night election watching but I also took a two hour nap every day this week. How is everyone doing for energy? I'm going to ask my NUT about adding a small morning coffee or green tea. Has anyone had adverse reactions with either this early on? My Multivitamin supposedly has the recommended b12 dosage and I try to walk everyday.... may try swimming tomorrow. I return to work on Monday and am concerned I won't be able to handle it (I work in politics and there are already tons of meetings/strategy sessions scheduled). I'm already mentally and physically drained just thinking about it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Feel your pain. I felt exactly the same last week (two weeks out yesterday). I added back my one regular cup of coffee per day and I think it helped me. I started to feel more normal. Also I tried to make sure to be hitting at least 500-600 cal/day and 60 G Protein plus Water. I feel better this week. Hope you will too. Sent from my iPhone

yes, just to re-confirm what everyone else has said. It takes multiple fills to get to good restriction. There are the occasional people who don't need any fills or just one fill to get their, but on average you're looking at 2,3, maybe 4 fills before you get restriction. I was one of the lucky ones that felt restriction after my first fill, and then perfectly restricted after my second fill. Added another .25 not too long ago, but actually feel a bit too tight. Getting it unfilled tomorrow. So, if there is one thing I have learned (the hard way) is to take it slowly, one day at a time. The literature from my surgeon says that you can get a fill as often as every 2 weeks (with the first fill being a minimum 4 weeks), but just from my own personal experience, it takes about 2 weeks for your band to settle down after a fill... so, every 3-4 weeks until you feel restriction is probably better. Good luck!

For the ladies - bra advise!
Kittymom replied to BexRNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Something I heard just last weekend, in a group I was attending. Is that Victoria Secret will take back a bra as long as you have your receipt Now the lady was telling us that she went to be sized at VS and 3 weeks later she went back to get resized and then is when they told her as long as you have your receipt they will take it back. I'm going to guess that they expect you to purchase another one. It might be worth checking out. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
