Nausea after revision from sleeve to bypass
Jetsfan2020 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi everyone: I know that it may take some time for people to respond but I keep going to the doctor to complain but its not helping. In 2015 I had the sleeve but after losing 50 pounds, within 5 years I gained it all back. In July 2020 I had the bypass. I'm down over 110 pounds which is amazing. The problem is that I'm finding that even foods, that I originally could eat after surgery, I now can't eat. Almost everything I eat makes me nauseous or I get sick. I'm literally dependent on protein shakes and quest bars as my only source of viable nutrition. I was prescribed zofran but so far that hasn't helped at all. Did anyone else have similar experiences? Any guidance, thoughts, tricks or food suggestions would be appreciated. I really have found that all natural proteins make me sick. Thanks, Phil -

make sure you are getting your protein goals in for the day....it will make you feel less hungry....i know how you are feeling....actually, we all do....hang in there. this is ALL WORTH IT!!!!!! -
Surgery on Dec 12th everything went great. Dr. fixed a few things wrong with me and I feel GREAT!!! It took me four years to come to this decision to lap band. I had to have emergency surgery after my hysterectomy four years ago and it happened to be Dr. Machado doing the surgery. She told me I was a perfect candidate for the surgery. Four years later here I am....HUNGRY!!! I am afraid of stretching out my pouch. How much and how fast should I be drinking protein and water? Can I eat, wait, then eat again? I am hungry and I need to be able to function at work (use my brain) Is it super easy to stretch it out or is it something that happens when you don't follow protocol? I am happy and lost 13 Lbs already and haven't gotten my first fill yet. Hopefully on the 11th of January I will. I am hoping that I won't be as hungry after that. Cannot wait to be somewhat "skinny" hahahahaha

13 days post op band
joanne1970 replied to Fairiefyre's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been over doing the amount fair and I live by the eat until your full, my program says 4-6 tblsp a meal, usually I eat one of the small single serve yogurts or cream of wheat for breakfast, I've been having a hard time finding a protein shake that I like they kinda make me nauseous, lunch I have a cup of creamed soup, I stopped picking the chicken out, I just chew it lick a hundred times before I swallow it. I have plenty of s/f pops they save me. I know how you feel cooking for everyone else but hang in there. Ive lost 10 pounds too banded on the 5th! Good luck. -
Hello everyone! I too am still drinking Protein shakes. I am also very tight most of early morning and afternoon so using the shakes gives me peace of mind that I am getting the protein I need. I am not too hungry so the shakes help with the nutrients even when I don't feel like eating, or am too tight. I am drinking 1 can of GNCs 50 Gram Slam shake a day - splitting it into two servings. I like the Cookies & Creme and banana Cream. They have a discount the 1st - 7th of every month so I buy a couple of cases then. Given the amount of money I used to spend on fast food, these shakes are cheap lol.

I still drink protein drinks. I found out sometimes when I can't get anything to go down I can always get that protein shake to go down.

I'm happy dancing all over the place! :frown::tt2::eek::biggrin::lol:I finally got approval for surgery. I have a PPO so I really did not need insurance approval to have the surgery, but the approval is good because it was approved as MEDICAL surgery opposed to COSMETIC:thumbup:. Can you believe it? Who gets a bunch of incisions in their stomach as a cosmetic improvement? I am actually not looking forward to the scars. Pre Caesarean my stomach was pretty hot:biggrin:! I didn't even get stretch marks during my pregnancy - incredible because I gained 70 pounds. Yes I said 70 pounds:blushing:. Anyway, the way I see it is this: nobody (other than my child) has seen my stomach since I gave birth so what difference does it make? I think its unattractive now; at after surgery and exercise it will be smaller and unattractive. I've got to get something to help the scars heal well so they are less noticeable. I have to get lots of protein and liquid stuff in the house. My surgery date is March 20, 2008!!!!!!! :thumbup:That leaves me no time - well I think that's my date. That’s the date the surgeon's office submitted to the insurance company, but they approved for the 30th. I called my doctor's office so that they could get the insurance company to make a correction. I hope they do - or maybe they did that so I could do a pre-op diet. I don't know - I'm going to call them right now to find out what's going on. I'm so excited and yet so scared. My baby is only five years old. I hope I'm not doing anything that will take me away from her. Lord please let everything be alright, let me get through this healthy (mentally,. physically, and emotionally). I want to be here to raise my daughter, send her off to college, be at her wedding and baby-sit her children - my grandbabies. Ok - gotta go make that call before I freak myself out and change my mind about this surgery.

In Need of a Nap and Other Stuff...
ajoneen commented on enjoylife's blog entry in enjoylife's Journal
sorry about the dog, that was not easy for you (or you daughter) Anything can be mushed. Your not stuck with mashed potatoes. I whirred up some lasagna and it was great. Just don't try blending al dente pasta. If you have unflavored protein powder(unjury) add it at the end of blending to anything to up the protein. Good luck. -
Is This The "full" Feeling I'm Suppose To Get?
B-52 replied to newlife082318's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Banded almost 3 years now....last fill was over 2-1/2 years ago...Green Zone ever since.... Just want to say: I have NEVER felt "Full" For me, it's a mental thing....the band is there, 24 hrs a day...so 24hrs a day it sends a signal to my brain that I am full, I do not need, or want to eat....even if I physically had nothing to eat in 24hrs....it's always there, just as the band is always there.... Imagine you just had the biggest thanksgiving feast...have to un buckle your pants...you cannot possible eat anothrer thing! Don't even show me another slice of pie...I cannot stand the sight of it....TAKE IT AWAY!!!! Now seperate the menatal thoughts, from the physical feelings...THAT is what I experience, all day long....I do not want to look at food, can't get motivated nor have an interest in eating....sometimes I find it repulsive.... All without ever eating a thing! There is no trick to it...it's not the Protein, nor the Water....it's all the Band! Simple.... As far as feedback from the band when you swallow something, I do get that with almost eveything I eat AND drink, at times....but that to me is not feeling "Full" -
Laughing cow wedges and babybels are both good options cheesewise. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Does anyone use the unflavored Protein powder? What is the best brand? Where can I buy it? And how much $$$ for "X" amount? My nurse has told me I could make some instant potatoes and add unflavored Protein Powder to the mix. I would like to find a protein powder that isn't gritty. Sent from my ANDROID using RNYTalk

Haha well I definitely found the right website then. I love the whey Protein in the blender with a banana, some skim milk and vanilla essence. It's a great kick start to the day, and tastes great. It's definitely the least "powdery" protein powder I've used. Some of them are so gritty!

My bariatric program has been shaky to say the least when it come to organization...but the doctor and other people involved have been GREAT! We are now down to the final approval from UHC. I am turning in the 5 yrs of weight history today...and then we sit and wait! (And, PRAY) I am confident everything will go well...I have maintained all the rules and regulations...and have jumped through all the "golden" hoops! So ...no worries right?!? Humm....I wish! I am so ready to move into the next phase! I have lost 45 pounds already just by following the diet plan! So my eating habits have already changed and I am prepared for the new way of eating when the VGS is done. I already eat small portions, drink 30-90 grams of proteins a day...and get plenty of liquids. So...all that's left is the surgery! All hanging in the balance with UHC! Praying for a quick approval!!!!

Dr. John Bagnato - To fill or not to fill?
nip50 replied to allykat's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
allykat - Just a couple of thoughts. First, how often are you eating? I know they say only 3 meals a day, but realistically you should have 2 healthy Snacks a day also. I have one mid morning and then one late afternoon, but not after dinner. Second, you don't want to get too tight and be too miserable. How much are you eating at meals? I'm able to eat about one cup per meal. I know that many doctors say you should only be able to eat 1/2 cup, but I never wanted that much restriction. Finally, what are you eatting and drinking? Are you staying away from the liquids and slider foods? Remember you should get all your Protein from solids and not Protein drinks and no drinking with meals or right after you eat. This will make a big difference. One last thought, do you make your appointments 2 or 3 at a time? If you make them about 3 weeks apart its easy to cancel them and you won't have to wait too long for your next one. -
Post op for only 6 days and STARVING! Help again!
lellow replied to nikole76537's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 days post op and am starting on smooth mushies as per my Dr's advice, so cream of mushroom Soups etc. I have been on Clear Liquids up until today, and have lost about 4lbs in the days since surgery. I agree about adding Protein, as it makes you feel fuller for longer. Also try and spread your meals out so you're eating a little bit every two hours or so. It seems to be working for me to get from point to point, and yes, I'm starting to get hungry too! -
The three most important elements after weight loss surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. I had RNY gastric bypass and I have to take many Vitamins but Duodenal Switch patients even have a heavier load of daily vitamins to take. After surgery many patients find it difficult to meet their daily fluid and protein requirement. This is because their body is in a major heal mode. Generally if they just keep trying to reach their goal, they will get there after a few weeks. Your taste buds can change after surgery. This can affect the taste of food, of Water and other fluids and or protein shakes. It is important to experiment until you find something that you can tolerate. You don't have to like it, only tolerate it. There are many forms of protein shakes available and it is important to try these until you find something that you can tolerate. Some people find Isopure to be a good alternative. I tried some and hated it but my wife tried it and liked it. So it is all a function of finding what works for you.

I am 2 weeks post op from DS. I am struggling with food. I do not want to eat. I was great on liquids. I lived on Ice Water and still do. but I am struggling with Protein, and what I can and can't eat now that I am in puree..... The sound of liquidizing everything is disgusting to me. I would rather struggle with no protein until i get to the soft food portion of my diet so i can eat meatloaf and chicken and what not. I don't have that large of a menu i enjoy eating from to begin with, but I am really having a hard time in the puree phase. Every time I open a Protein shake I start gagging so I cant even get help there.

Here are some homemade Protein bar recipes that use fresh lemon: http://www.damyhealth.com/2011/05/lemon-strawberry-protein-bars/ http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=1688696

You obviously have a fighting spirit so you can do this. Just a thought. Maybe return to post op eating. This would help to withdraw from the sweets and carbs. Lots of Protein shakes, Soup, etc. (mushie stage) I remember once when I was trying to withdraw from sugar I decided everytime I wanted to pig out I would take a hot bubble bath and read magazines or go shopping.(nothing like spending your whole night in the bathtub!!!! Water gets cold, drain, run more hot water, drain, run more hot water, you get the picture) You do what you have to do to get past it.

Any Mexican/Latin sleevers? -LIQUID DIET PREOP- Surgery year 2013
mlo702 replied to ladybug76's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi ladies, i'm about 3½ weeks out and are graduating into full liquids...but to start i did broth, sf jello, sf popsicles, and powerade zero.... i just barely discovered isopure, only because i'm trying to find new ways of getting my protein in.... i'm curious as to when i can start adding lemon & chile to stuff....lol -
There is no way I can only eat 3 meals and get all the Protein in. My doc said - protein is the most important...work on all other stuff around that. He never told me no Snacks. Just make them protein. Right now my go to snacks are string cheese, Peanut Butter Protein Bars, nuts and sugar free fudgesickles.

I am starting month 5 and have been stable at 190 lbs for a month, only 10 pounds from goal but quite frankly comfortable at 190. I can eat full meals and have some desert (ice cream etc) and I snack on small candy bars, MMs, etc and I neither gain nor lose weight. Nothing wrong with having a cookie, with or without sugar or ice cream, etc. It is normal. I am also with Kaiser and they want only 3 meals a day, maybe a Protein bar or shake in between but they do want only 3 normal meals per day. I didn't have the surgery just to give up eating everything else I would have done the bypass. Enjoy a snack just don't overdo.

I know what you mean!! I didn't do chicken broth pre op...because I knew I'd HAVE to do it post op and didn't want to be burnt out on it. Right now, I love it. and Instead pre op...I did shakes after shakes after shakes. Peanut Butter banana smoothies with Protein are SO FILLING and they are what got me through...occasionally, i had a cucumber with chili y limon...but i shouldnt have. alot of it is mental too. keep ur mind busy. watch Netflix. not TV because TV has so many BOMB food commercials...ugh. Thank you. My surgery is sept 21 Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk You're welcome! The date will be here before u know it. Be strong. ☺So you slipped up on your two week post op diet. I'm hungry but I had a very minor slip and I felt guilty Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk Yes. I did. Not just once either. My bday was Aug 29. I went to olive garden. HORRIBLE. I know. But I'm VERY thankful all came out ok and that I haven't done or ate anything I shouldn't as of now. I know the guilt you speak of too. Lol....lots of things in common.

Just starting out, but worried about future/choice already
Bufflehead replied to mj0920's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. Your health and medical choices are your business, not your co-workers. Tell them as much or as little as you want. But be prepared, they will probably, sooner or later, guess at your having had weight loss surgery. You need to be prepared about what to tell them -- either that you are going to lie (I don't advise it, not for anyone but specifically not for you since they may well hear about it via work and it will make you look like a bad, untrustworthy person), tell them you don't want to discuss it, or be open about it if/when they ask. Whatever you choose, don't let the reactions of people around you determine whether you are going forward with surgery or not. This is YOUR life and choice, and other people can go pound sand. 2. You will be able to eat and drink at your son's wedding. You may not want to have more than a couple bites of cake or sips of wine, but it will be up to you. Hopefully you will come to a place where your enjoyment of celebrations is measured by the fun you have with people and activities rather than by how much food you can eat. And believe me, I am not judging, I have definitely walked many miles in your shoes! Imagine yourself thinner, happier, with more energy at his wedding, dancing and receiving compliments from friends and family. Doesn't that sound better than eating three slices of cake and slugging back glasses of wine? Imagine shopping for your Mother of the Groom outfit in a brand new size and all the options you will have to pick from! 3. See above. It's a big change but a positive one. You can still enjoy football and spending time with friends without over-eating, I promise. None of these things are as important as your physical and emotional health -- and for most of us, things improve drastically on both fronts via this surgery. I worried too about missing out on things like big family dinners -- but trust me, I look back at my worries and have to laugh at myself a little bit. My life is so, so much better now, in a multitude of ways. Good luck in your decision. -
I have a 3 month old son and am currently breastfeeding. I'm wondering if I'll have any issues after surgery with Breastfeeding? Whether I'll lose my supply or there aren't enough nutrients in my body to supply for him? Also, it seems he doesn't like the protein. He seems to throw up more when I have protein shakes. Anyone else have this issue?
