Can you freeze/reheat things you've added protein powder to?
MaybeMeow posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Those In The Know. I'm making a Thai broth I really like and have added some gen-pro unflavored powder to it. Anyone know if you freeze it and then re-heat it later in the microwave if it's a palatable consistency? Thanks!! -
Thanks, everyone. Just needed to vent where ppl would understand. Protein gym and water are stellar. I'll keep at it!

Has anyone tired juicing ? Do you recommend it I'm 2 months post op and I've lost 40 pounds. I really really don't want to just juice all day. since liquids including Protein shakes do fill me up and leave me satisfied I was wondering if I could leave the protein and just juice ? Crazy Hungry n not feeling full...? Anyone?
Ms skinniness commented on zempress's blog entry in zempress' Blog
You may want to take a PPI (prilosec, nexium, ect). Salads don't really do anything to me, I don't feel full so I any eat a couple of bites. Besides the dressing is high in calories. Eat protein first to fill up....that's my golden rule always.....it does help...... -

Certain foods over little restriction......practice protein first. I get full quickly when doing this. I have seen some members post salad is a slider good for them. -
Cannot eat certain foods after 2 years!?
Andell replied to Beedee90's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me up front that hard to digest veggies would be a no go. My plan actually says I should avoid raw veggies for at least 6 months so I don't think what you are dealing with is uncommon. What stick out to me in your post is why are you so insistent on eating those foods if you know they make you sick? There are hundreds of other options out there, try them. Can not stop losing weight.... Help
KristenLe replied to Scottyd1264's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Scottyd1264 You need to eat 5-6 times a day. As said - set a timer, pack food/snacks. Eat healthy fats and complex carbs along with your protein. Supplement with a high protein low sugar shake. Your Dr is correct - you have to eat more - there's no other way. Good luck! -
I also have 2 Quest bars a day for the Protein...the chips I do like, but the Peanut Butter cups I'm not too crazy about. As far as the bars, there are so many flavors to choose from, you can't help but find something you definitely like! Wish you the best success!!!

They do exist (just do a search on Protein tablets). However, they only offer a very small amount of protein in each tablet (usually 1-2 grams) and are really not much use.

Struggling with the Preop diet
joshwah replied to evanter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eas Advantage has a caramel café flavor that I find goes down really easily. The premier protein vanilla shakes are pretty good as well! -
Hey all, So my Dr. said that I didn't have to do a pre-op diet because my BMI is 38-40. However, I started a full liquid diet today...so I know what to expect...and I am starving! How many times have you seen this post? I am scared...because this is torture. Will it be the same after surgery (on Friday!) ? What are your collective thoughts? Breakfast: Cream of Potato Soup Lunch: Muscle Milk Dinner: Brooccoli and cheese *fat free Soup with Protein powder Snacks: 2 sugar free popsicles Thanks!

I'm on day 7 and the mention of the word (protein) makes me gag.

I'm 2 1/2 weeks out. My NUT advanced my diet to the following: yogurt, eggs, cheese, refried Beans, puréed chicken/turkey, veggie patties, and turkey sausage crumbles. But everything is making me nauseated, or hurts when I eat it. I'm trying to drink a lot of Fluid...& am not doing great at Protein (again back to the nausea)... Did anyone else experience this? Did it eventually subside? Any tips?

What did you eat on 1st day of solids??
MissWilde replied to mtnman428's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi There, I liked homemade egg mayo on rice cakes! I am veggie and don't eat fish so it was a good way to get in Protein for me. And it saves really well in the fridge! I can give you my recipie if you like  K X -
Wanted to update everyone since my last post. Well, I have managed 2 days of protein shakes only....3 a day, on the 3rd day I had 2 protein shakes and small meal - all protein for lunch. Today will be day 4. My weight has gone down some, not a lot and not where I want to be, but I am going to try and take the process in a more positive and accountable manner. I have gained the weight over a period of time, so I must be realistic with how much time will be required in losing it. Thanks everyone for the support. I will post another update later in the week. Would love to hear about everyone's progress and/or struggles.

Question about the purpose of the 6 months of supervised dieting
Bjornsyouruncle posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm getting conflicting information about it and I'm wondering if someone can straighten me out. When I talked to the nurse that was assigned to me she said the diet was to prove that I'm committed to changing my life and making good habits. I'm starting to make adjustments now, like forcing myself to chew my food thoroughly, not drinking at meals, etc. I've been eating healthy and low carb (just Protein and veggies, no sugar, grains, etc) so I've already lost a few pounds. I have PCOS so I respond very well to Atkins or South Beach, and I'm excited about beginning the weight loss process, even if I don't have a band yet. But the thing is that it was inferred (which could have just been me misunderstanding) at my doctor's appointment today that people aren't really expected to be successful at the 6 month monitored diet. I'm not being monitored by my PCP, but rather a weight loss specialist who deals with a lot of pre-surgical patients because I want to make sure that everything gets documented and submitted properly. Also I've had people I know irl who have been through the process say that the diet was to prove that they couldn't lose weight conventionally. So which is it? Am I dieting for real, to start the weight loss and to prove my commitment or am I just supposed to be going through the motions? -
I was doing a google search for bariatric post op food and came across a website that had different flavors of Soup that had 12-15g protein in them. I don't remember the name brand...sounds good though! Y'all keep up the good work ...your journey is beginning!!! Mine will be mid feb... I can't wait!

Hello - Considering Lap Band - NYC
transformer replied to benbax's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome! My surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday. I researched the different options for about 2 years myself. I'll let you know how it turns out! -
It’s hard for me to drink water too. Before the surgery no problem, that and unsweetened iced tea were all I drank. I’m trying different options like coconut water and Gatorade zero. They seem to go down a little better

Welcome all! I have to say, that I thought this would be harder (its not easy, just not as hard as I expected.) I fully expected to be cranky, dizzy, headachy (I do get some headaches due to no caffine) and hungry all of the time. I find the protein shakes do a pretty good job of filling me up...which honestly worries me a bit...I feel like I may not be doing this right. I guess we will find out in 2 days, but for now, I will keep following the guidelines set out for me by the docs office. I won't lie, I cheated a TINY bit...I ate some olives, not to fill me up but for the texture I think. It has stopped and I wont eat any more, but I do feel bad about it.

Hello Everyone, I had surgery on 3/29 and my scale is telling me that I have not lost any weight. I initially had lost about 6lbs, but now I am back at the weight I was the day of the surgery. I must admit that I have not been drinking the Protein shakes....could this be my problem? I know that I am not eating over 1000 calories a day, so I can't figure out why I am not losing??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Apralfool

Brian , My surgery was 11/5/08 and it was a breeze, i'll tell you why. My doctor and staff are second to none but since you aren't in New Orleans to see them ,i'll let you in on the secret's they gave me As soon as you get home start your pain med's and your gas-x strips . Continue taking them every 6 or 8 hours, whatever your bottle says, even if you don't feel any gas or pain. The objective is to have the med's in your system so that you don't have to feel the pain or the gas . You are beating it to the punch. If you wait for the symptom it is then to late and it will take forever for the med's to kick in. Also, walk as much as you can around the house, this will move the gas and also help in healing. Drink your liquids at least 2 ounces every 15 -30 min. I had no surgery pain or even gas pain but I did have slight soreness around the port sight. I used a heating pad on this area and it worked wonders. Also you may need to sleep on a few extra pillows at first. It was much more comfortable than lying down for me. Watching TV will become hard because every other commercial is about food. Get your spouse to go down to the local library. They loan out usually up to 6 DVD's at a time for free. You can keep them up to 2 weeks . Just relax and heal . Stay out of the kitchen because by next week if you see food you will want to devour it. Out of sight , out of mine. If you want to shove something in your mouth keep those Blue Bell sugar free pop-sickles in the freezer and just suck on that . Oh and I read about alot of people hating protein powder and I hate it mixed with water but I buy the EAS at Sam's and mix it with milk and it is great. I could't drink it if I had to do it just with water. I hope I was of some help.
