  1. Today is was day one of the liquid phase. I am trying to get that momentum back if at all possible. SO! I had 52 grams of Whey protein and sugarfree juice and one popsicle. And I went running in probably 99-100+ degree weather. I pray I can continue...but I do have another fill scheduled for Wednesday the 28th of this month. This fill will be number five in over three years. Until tomorrow, Keep the Faith.

    clothes size

I started pretty much EXACTLY where you are. My surgery was 07/08/2011. 200 pounds was my goal weight, but 8 months post op, I was at 185. When I was at 200, I still was carrying too much fat, so I didn't go into maintenance mode until then. I bounce between 180 and 190 now 2+ years later. Sizing was a wild trip. My clothes fit fine for the first 40 pounds, which was so disappointing. But then, things started changing. Middle of September, I was in a 40 pants. 2 weeks later, 38. Month after that, 36. Two weeks later, 34. Shirt sizes dropping just as rapidly. I now wear a medium shirt and a 32 pant. It is difficult to wrap my mind around, but that is the reality. Thinking you will be an XL with a 40 waist is big man thinking. I can pretty much guarantee you will be much leaner than that. If you go to my gallery under my profile, you can see my before and after pics. Have you read THIS thread?
  3. I'd say about 3 weeks when I started soft foods. I felt pressure in my chest and didn't realize it was a sign of full feeling. I thought it was gas lol. You will get the feeling soon
  4. I do have a pre-op diet. 2 weeks high proten/low carb, to shrink my liver.

    Will my knees stop hurting?

I'm 41 and work 50 hours a week on my feet all day. I used to come home straight after work and put my legs up and cry from the pain in my feet, ankles and knees. When I gave up wheat in November I noticed a great improvement even without weightloss though there was still some pain after my shift. Now it's getting better and better. I now work all day, go for a three mile walk, come home, prepare dinner and THEN put my feet up.. yeah my knees and ankles still do ache a bit but NOTHING like before.

    Skinny Wannabe

Congratulations on being banded and welcome to our little forum. I think you'll find by reading posts here that many of still have trouble with evening snacking. Since you have no fill yet it is perfectly normal to feel hungry. With no fill, everything should be passing right through your band. If nothing hurts when you eat, you should be fine. The same advice goes for the treadmill - if it doesn't hurt, you should be OK. Take it easy at first. You're only one week out of surgery. Many of us have that bubbling gurgling sensation. We have lots of different theories on what causes it. For some people it is quite loud. You may be taking too big a bite or not chewing well enough. It's hard to say. Good Luck and please check in often.

    Biggest guy here

Allow me to introduce myself. Hello my name is Andy, I am from the Tacoma, Washington area. A brief history......... Was in bad health, back hurting, high BP 160/100. I am 6'4'' and have always been big. Senior year of high school I hit the scales at 300. Being this tall with a large build I always could "carry it well". I was at the Dr. for bp pills and a beta blocker when he told me about the lap band. I was interested, went to the seminar with my wife and I was hooked. BUt.....17,000 USD ouch. Checked with the insurance - DENIED. I still did not know what I wieghed but I knew I was at least 380. I was able to get a loan on my 401K, drain my savings and my great mother-in-law kicked in the rest. I called and scheduled my consult. When I got to the office I hit the scale @ 468. 468? What? Even putting this into words hurt. How did I let myself get to this? Well, I scheduled myself for the band. Went on medi-fast for 2 weeks. That stuff sucks!! But I did it and lost about 15lbs. Had my surgery on 4/15/08. Went well. Dr. Neal is amazing and so is his staff. Since the surgery I am always hungry but I think 468 no way. I am at the gym everyday and will only eat my small meals. It is a little better since my fill but I feel like I could still eat a horse. I cheat every now and then but NOTHING like before. Went to the Dr. today and I am in a good mood. I am down 48 lbs, my bp is 120/70 and I am down 1 pant size. You guys know how hard it is and having no peers I had to reach out to someone. I am sure when I started this I was the fattest guy in the world, I am changing, soon I might not be. AP

    Swimming Post-Op

They told me 6 weeks but I admit I went swimming at 2 weeks. I was out of town visiting a friend and I don't get to swim in a pool very often (it was winter and they had an in door pool in their building) so I did it and I was fine. I think as long as your incisions are not open you'll be okay.

    Protein Powder

I just posted a thread on this topic as well. I'm on Unjury protein power as well.. nasty stuff. but they all are. But 1 scoopful = 28 grams of protein and you'll need it. I mixed Unjury non flavored with chicken broth the first week I was home. I went to Jamba Juice today and got one of their lite (150 cal mixes) and dropped a scoopful in it, and it was drinkable (I did not gag as much). Also, I have problems with milk and milk is an important source of proteine. I can't wait to go to foods so i can have my cottage cheese instead . If I ever even think about cheating in 4 months time, i will remember the taste of my Unjury protein and that will keep me on track!!! ha ha.. like Pavlov's dog.. instead of salvating, i'll remember how horrible drinking the stuff was. good luck to you. its only for 4 weeks anyway. so suck it up!)
  11. Hi all, my name is Shawna. I'm 41, a working mom and wife. I've been a "big girl" most of my life. Had a few good weight loss years but the weight always managed to come back again. I've always been very active but could never keep weight off. After having no kids to having my baby girl, then 2 step kids coming to live with us all in 7 months, anything about myself went out the window. Anyways, I'm in a much better mind frame now, love life but still struggle with the battle of the bulge. My doctor suggested bypass surgery back in 2012 and I finally agreed for her to refer me to the hospital. My first "session" at the weight clinic was in February 2013 which was the info session on your options and you could sign a sheet saying whether or not you wish to have the surgery. I signed "yes" and started the journey of Bypass Surgery. It took a long time to get here now in June 2014 but well worth it. I've had more info sessions, met with a behaviourist, nurse, dietician, the surgeon and finally the anaesthesiologist last week. I've had EKG, cardiograms, blood work, stopped drinking altogether, and given up a lot of "treats" but could not be in a place to have this done. I'm ready for the next stage, BRING IT ON!!!!!!:-)
  12. I had to do the stress test a few weeks ago and it wasn't as bad as I thought. The cardiologist told me there are two different categories of stress tests preformed. I was low risk, so I just had to have the heart monitor electrodes (?) stuck to my chest and walked on the treadmill. Every 3 minutes, the machine would up the speed and elevation. I was able to tell the technician how much I could take. For the cardiac clearance they also had to perform an echo heart ultrasound. That hurt a bit. The technician had to firmly push the wand into my chest to get accurate pictures of my heart. My chest was sore for about 5 days afterwards. All in all, I would say that the cardiac clearance was fairly easy and stress free.
  13. Nah none of those things will prevent clearance unless they are way out of control. I have a heart murmur and had to have a couple of echocardiograms and wear a heart monitor for 2 weeks to make sure everything was OK since I was newly diagnosed and got my clearance from there. Good luck to ya!
  14. Yep, call the doc now. I think some of the tiredness might be normal because this week I've been really tired. But, the low blood pressure, not a good sign. Please let us know what the doc says!
  15. Hi I am 4 weeks post op and am able to eat as much as I want although I am trying to be careful. My first fill is in 3 weeks, and I am wondering what I will be feeling like after the fill. I know some experience restriction after first fill, but some dont. Was wondering what different peoples experiences were with their first fill.
  16. Hi, My name is Kim and I just had lap band 4 weeks ago. I have lost 30 lbs since beginning the pre op diet on May 31st. I went to the dr. for my 2 week follow up. He said I was doing great. I was concerned because the week I started on puree I was starving all of the time and I could eat at least a cup of food and still be hungry. He said that the swelling is going down around the band and that makes the band looser. He said to eat until satisfied and he will fill me at 4 weeks (which is this Wednesday) I feel like I am getting out of control already because I am always hungry. My weight has been up and down a couple of lbs every day since. Is this a common occurance? I feel like it is really discouraging. I feel like I don't even have the band in. Any comments would be helpful. Thanks in advance, Kim:ohmy::confused2::tt2:

    EGD...

With my insurance, there were a few things I had to have done before my doctor could do submission for surgery approval. I had to have my psych eval, 4 meetings with my nutritionist, 4 meetings with my surgeon, the EGD, and lose some weight (my insurance didn't ask for a specific amount, just weight lost). They didn't give me a specific order to do those things in, they just had to be done. I'm now pending approval from insurance. My dr does not require a two-week liquid diet preop for most of his patients. He only requires a liquid diet the day before surgery. They do recommend a high protein, low calorie, low carb diet.

    EGD...

So I had a surgery date scheduled on the 1st day I seen the Dr for bariatric surgery (scheduled about 3 months later). I was giving a list of tests and specialists I had to see before a certain date to receive insurance approval. My EGD is in about 2 weeks. My surgery is January 22, 2021. Itchy Incisions

Ugh yep. I one week post op and mine are itching like crazy. Leave it alone because you don’t want to touch them and risk infection.
  20. Ok, quick stats - 7 weeks post op. Eating Solid Foods. Getting in Protein and Water (well a little light on water lately but working on it) So here's the question. I have noticed my hair start to shed more than usual. I have very long, thick hair. I knew it was going to fall out and am prepared for it, however I have a hair appointment the end of October where I go in and get my usual color and highlights. Is the bleach they use going to make my hair fall out more? Is it going to really damage it? If so what about just coloring it? I can go dark for the winter months but just need to be prepared. Also - prior to surgery I have a thing going on with my stylist where we are growing my hair down to my butt. It's something I have always wanted to do and she says I have the perfect hair for it. If it gets too bad how do I explain to her what happened without telling her about surgery?

    Banded A Week Later

Well it's been a week since banded and I'm better. The one thing that is bothering me is going through another week of liquids. I know it is necessary, but I'm having a hard time. At least let me get to the puree stage!! I think I just heard my stomach for the first time...oh well. Dr. Madan is impressed with my weight lose, so that's good. This morning I did get on the treadmill at a really fast pace. Other than that I'm still day dreaming of being small. Be BLESSED!

    Freakin' Holidays

Yeah, the holidays are a killer. I've gained 4 pounds since Thanksgiving. UGH...... I have to say, the sodium seems to be a part of it. I haven't gotten up in the morning with swollen fingers in MANY months. Have several times since Thanksgiving. Alcohol seems to be my pit fall. Spiced rum, and extra wine will get you every time. I've been good about limiting the Christmas cookies. But stuff like potatoes and gravy???? Hard to resist. Slacked off on the exercise as well. I know where I'll be next week!!! LOL

    Freakin' Holidays

I was banded on Oct. 20th, 2009. I have lost 64lbs since then. I have been sticking to my diet very well until these past two weeks. People have been dumping cookies and stuff. Office holiday parties have been going rampant, and I know I've probably eaten a bit much, but I am doing better these last couple of days. I've decided to give away the goodies or even throw them away.....I just try to do it discreetly...has anyone had any problems this past week with the holidays...If so how have you been getting thru it.
  24. Thanks! I'll be there next week, it's great to know what to expect. Thanks for taking the time to type this all out, it's very helpful!!! Hope everything is going well for you
