    Could I Need Counseling

Willowcat - You hit the nail on the head. If I lose the weight, I will no longer have that easy out of "it's not me, it's their bias against the weight. If I wasn't fat, they wouldn't reject me/treat me that way/ whatever." I am definitely going back to therapy! I was in therapy before, but after a point, just kept running into the obstacle of my weight and felt I needed to start dealing with that before I could really progress. I would recommend therapy for anyone who is interested in it - it does work if you are really committed to overcoming and changing! yes I use it as a barrier, a cusion, etc Yup this is me, My Dr Phil and what is your pay off......... I start counseling MONDAY! AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH I have had a rough day... confronting my eating disorder niece who has been living with me for 6 months. After finding a raw potato that fell out of her back back......... We had a good talk......... we both cried together........ good bonding moment. I love her so much. She is 19 and I am afraid for her.

    Do anyone snack sometimes

My NUT says 6 200 calorie meal/snack with at least 10 grams protein each I do Protein shake with coffee 2, babybell cheese, lean cusine, greek yogurt, small portion of dinner and then special K protein cereal at night. I will also change up and do some of the products from my doctors office at times or indulge at night instead of my cereal
  3. I was diagnosed with depression when I was 11, and haven't taken any medication for it since, although I probably need it. I've been dealing with it ok by myself, but lately I think it's been getting worse. I've got NO energy (not really surprising, tbh), and absolutely no motivation. It's a herculean effort to get up and get ready in the morning, I can't pay attention in class, and forget about homework. I get headaches every day, all I ever want to do is sleep, and I've started getting leg cramps almost constantly. My suicidal thoughts have gotten worse, along with my cutting. And I haven't even lost 10 pounds! I can't go to a doctor. I'm 18 and live with my mom, who doesn't believe that mental illness is a real thing, and won't pay for any kind of treatment. I'm a college student with no job and no car. I don't know what to do.

    Oatmeal and fiber question

Stacey- i lost about 10 lbs. But that was mostly due do to the recovery time when i couldn't eat a thing, even hardly drink. Now i've got a little fat to lose but not too much more weight, maybe 10 lbs. I don't really watch carbs, i just try to eat what my stomach will tolerate. I do get fat free and sugar free stuff, so nothing that sits hard on the stomach. I need carbs for my energy. If i go really low carb, i lose all my energy and feel awful. I know that the fat loss will come from the overall calorie reduction. I am drinking some energy drinks that make me feel wonderful. I'm SO happy that i can have oatmeal! I am going to fix it for my next meal!!

    Ice cream.

I was saved at the last minute by remembering the Protein shakes I took to TJ at the last minute. It was late and the cafeteria was closed and the ped fridge is packed with ice cream. Not to worry, I just drank my Protein shake at 9 1/2 days instead if 10. I will say a prayer for all the sleevers who can't stand Protein Shakes. It was my first feeling of fullness. I love, love the Dr Mercola grass fed, artificial sweetener free chocolate protein shakes. Tastes like chocolate milk even when made with Water. 160 cals per 20 mg protein 2 scoops. Yum!

    Excess Skin

I do not have excess skin and have lost about 150 in 6 months. However, I have been a fairly active exerciser for the last 10 years or so. The reason my weight went up was not due to lack of daily exercise and lots of hiking year round, but rather from very bad eating habits (overeating, binge eating and eating so much junk like 5 large pizza pieces at a time, whole box of donut holes, etc). Exercising to the point of obsession could not touch my caloric intakes and replaced a lot of my interpersonal relationships and other forms of emoting. I am so happy of the person I have become after being free of the death grip food had on me physically and emotionally.
  8. 40 pounds is awesome!!!!!!!!!! I'm 10 1/2 months out & have just lost 40 pounds.

    Whennnnnn

@@Seagull - Yes. Lost a bunch pre-op (you quit drinking alcohol and work to shrink your liver, good things will happen). I actually gained 10 at the hospital thanks to all the IV Fluid they pumped in me. But after 10 days of healing, everything started "moving" inside again, the weight really came off fast.

No worries, ASK AWAY its the only way you are going to get the answers you need. My wife was not supportive of it at first. but I told her I was geting it done no matter what. :tongue2: I mean I understood where she was coming from but I also wanted to be around in 10 -15 years. I was 380+ pounds when I started, and I had to do a 6 month supervised diet first. During that time I lost 30 pounds, and since my Pre op diet which started 2 weeks prior to surgery I have lost 50+ pounds. I do not have any reall excess skin hanging of, but my stomach is still not the prettiest Remember the band is only a tool you will still have try and eat the right things, but at the same time do not deprive yourself of anything either. I think the hardest part of the surgery was the 2 weeks following. Even that wasnt too bad. As far as your husband, that is honestly all up to him. I would just tell him that you will need his support and tell him that you are doing this for "us" weather it will help with the baby, love life, other health issues, whatever. I can tell you my wife is totally behind me now which is great and she was extremely scared at first. not only for the surgery aspect, but we had a friend that got it done, and she ended up getting a divorace after she lost her weight, due to all the attention she ws getting from other guys. I mean it does happen, so he could be scared for that reason too. Maybe show him this web site, and all the information that is out there.

    Heartburn?

Protonix went generic. That is what I take. It costs me $10. It's supposed to be as good as Nexium. I don't get heartburn, but I take it with all the other junk I take in the morning. I don't know if I would get it if I didn't take that every morning. I didn't know it does anything to Calcium. My dad had severe osterporosis. I worry about my calcium intake.
  12. I still have 3 weeks before my surgery I wanted to create a post about hair loss. As a Licensed Cosmetologist I want to share something that I haven't come across in lot of these threads. Although hair loss with this type of surgery may not be something that we can not avoid, it sure doesn't hurt to try and avoid it! We want to be healthier and skinnier and NOT bald! We all know it's important to keep your scalp clean and in good condition for proper hair growth. Using a good professional shampoo is very important, as other shampoos can cause a waxy build up that will weigh the hair down and could possibly make it fall out faster. It is important that you switch up your shampoos! Shampoos like Nioxin are great for thinning hair but if used day in and day out it will have major drying effects on the hair and scalp. It is also important that you keep your hair and scalp moisturized so a good conditioner along with a good scalp treatment is very important for maintaining a healthy scalp! Taking your Vitamins daily and meeting your Protein goal is so VERY important!!! So here is my suggestion: Scalp Manipulations! Scalp Manipulations is a technique that may help increase blood flow to the hair follicle and strengthen the roots. Warming the the scalp before the massage will help open the blood vessels which increases blood flow. The better circulation to the hair follicles may help nutrients strengthen the hair cells and encourage proper growth function. If you google Scalp Manipulations there is a site that shows your how to massage your scalp properly. So using a warm hot oil treatment and having your scalp massaged for about 10-20 once or twice a week could have huge benefits for your hair and could most defiantly slow down or stop hair loss. These are all things that you can do right at home! Also another thing to try is to put a deep conditioner in your hair, cover it with a plastic bag and blow dry it for about 3-5 minutes to warm the scalp. Then remove the bag and start massaging the scalp, it not only feels wonderful but it is so beneficial! Please do not over due and of these suggestions, 1-2 per week is enough! You can find a great deep conditioner at you local beauty supply store or make a homemade hot oil treatment right at home! Also I few things I forgot to mention above is to keep your hair trimmed regularly and back off the styling products and hot irons! Also NO tight fitting hats during this time, this decreases the blood flow to the scalp which in turn could cause more hair loss or slow it down. Hopefully you find these tips helpful:)
  13. I have a strange question .... For about the last 3 months ... I've been having this feeling like my stomach is eating itself ... Is that the new "hey I'm hungry" feeling? It's quite the feeling ... And I'm probably not explaining it right ... But I have a Protein shake for Breakfast between 7am - 8am ... Then about 10:00 - 10:30 that feeling starts ... so I'll have a handful or 2 of peanuts ... Seems to quiet the monster ... I eat a P3 around noon .... Usually around 3:00 it starts again ... sometimes I'll have a handful of peanuts or a yogurt ... ( not always ) Between 4:00 - 5:00 ... I have another Protein Shake ... Then dinner when I get home around 6:30 ... usually a hot dog ( seems I have an obsession right now ) I mean seriously ... I think about it all the way home ... Night snack is usually 3 bites of a Protein Bar OR a SF fudgesicle ... So I'm thinking the feeling IS the new "hey stupid, feed me" feeling ... Does anyone else have an opinion / advice ?

    This feeling ...

For me, I have to eat every few hours in order to get in all of my Protein. If I only ate three meals and no Snacks I would 1) be short in protein and 2) be pretty hangry most of the time. I have to track my food or I would have no idea whether or not I was meeting my protein target. My memory is so bad I can't remember what I ate 10 minutes ago.

    Constipation

How far out from surgery are you? I had RNY and constipation is a constant companion since surgery. My doctor put me on Linzess and it really truly helps. I did not start that though until i was post op a year and still having trouble with it. There are times even with the Linzess that I have to take a stool softener with laxative but that is maybe once a month or so. Prior to RNY I always had the other problem......and i have decided I would much rather have the other problem than constipation. That is about the only negative thing for me post RNY and I am 28 months post op and it is not that difficult for me to deal with. If you are newly post op, I would give the surgeon a call and ask for the best remedy for you. I know mine had me using Milk of Magnesia and even suppositories when it got really bad. I went 10 days post op before I was able to go and only with the help of the items mentioned.

    One Year Out

One year gone and took 87 pounds with it. Yupeee!!! I'm happy and sad. Happy that I feel good and have not had any complications. I feel energized with alot more self esteem and do feel like my life is in a new phase. Sad, because my goal was to loose 100 pounds in one year. It's getting much more harder now. I've caugt myself going into old bad habits. I feel like my body continues to fight me. Hunger is also against me. It's harder to loose the pounds. I stay in a range of 10 pounds. Loose 4 one week then two weeks later those same 4 or 5 are back. I have now decided to take things to another level. I enjoy walking and have put some jogging into my excercise. But feel I need the advice and encouragement of a physcial trainer. I have now looked into that and plan on starting soon. Mentally, there's been alot of confusion and alot of emotions. There's alot of ups and downs. Alot of my history has come out, for some reason. I need to continue seeing my pyschologist, who had previously warned me that many things in my head would awaken and I would have to face them. I trust that with his help and GODs presence I will work thru this. :smile2:
  17. Ok...here goes: My sleep study: I arrived at the center at about 7pm. After cleaning my skin in different places with alcohol and pumice, the "sleep technician" hooked me up to a lot of electrodes (a couple on each leg, a band around my stomach and chest, several electrodes stuck to my chin and around my eyes and about 6 stuck to my head). The electrodes were connected to wires that were hooked up to a monitor. At about 10:30, I went to bed. There's a video camera in the room watching your every move and you are wired for sound (they want to see if you're snooring!) I got up at 5am, they disconnected my wires, I took a shower and went home... The psych eval was easy! First I took a written test of about 120 questions. I just had to answer True False or SOmetimes...they were questions like..."do you ever think of killing yourself?", "Have you ever taken someone elses medications?" Stuff like that. Then I sat and spoke with the psychologist for about 1 1/2 hours. She asked about my weight loss efforts, my family life growing up and about my family situation now. She also asked about my support at home, etc. I hope this helps! If you have specific questions, I'd be glad to try to answer! Marsha

    Trying to not be jealous

MEN. don't you love it? my husband does not have a weight problem. if he ever needs to loose it is 5-10 pounds- do you know what he does? he eats LESS potato chips. seriously. he doesn't STOP eating them, he just doesn't eat the whole bag. me? he better not put the bag between us because I will gain weight just being that close to them. your feelings are normal, and understandable - but they will not help you. come here to vent if you need to and then bless him. a year from now I hope you're both just where you need to be.

    sudden band tightening

I just had .10 cc removed today and I feel so much better. My doctor said it could be allergies and to make sure to take allergy meds every day.
  20. Woohoo I'm down 10 lbs as well.
  21. I’m having surgery on 10/17 as well! I’ve been super excited in the last few months but since it’s the final countdown I’ve been a bit anxious. [emoji28]

    Preparation

I felt the same way. I totally crashed when I got to the doctors office though. I know I need to write stuff down and ask questions but when he came in i swear to God whatever was going on upstairs, just leaked out of my ear and I think I just stared stupidly at him for 10 minutes.... sigh.

    Vitamins

I was sleeved 10/27. My doc had me start my Vitamins about 2 1/2 weeks post op. I am taking the Bariatric Advantage capsules. I am able to swallow them (they are a little big). I have never been able to swallow pills no matter what size they were. It did take me a few days to figure out what time of day was best for me to take them. I was doing after Breakfast and dinner but found I was waking up in the middle of the night tasting them. yuck!! So now I take them after breakfast and lunch, I find if I take them when there is something in my tummy then all is good. I know there will be people who will have advice for you. I have seen many who have helped so much on here. I just wanted to let you know what worked for me. Hang in there as they days go by it will be easier for your to get your Protein an Water in.
