    Not doing good......at all!

    1. How much food should I be eating per meal ( 1 cup, 1/2 cup or what?) and should that be making me feel full? It all depends on your body. If you can lose with 1 cup of food then that is great. In my case, it takes me 1/4 to 1/2 cup of food to really lose more than 1 lb per week. It is very important if you decide to get another fill to eat less to have Protein. In my case, I always start the day off with 30 grams of protein in a shake. That way I can then consume another 30 throughout the day. I eat probably 5 small meals a day. 2. I seem to PB a lot, is that normal? How much is a lot? For me when I am tight it is quite common to PB once daily or every other day. 3. I have a 10 cc band and have had 5 cc's worth of fills and get "stuck" a lot now, should I get more fills and just eat soft foods that won't get stuck? There are 2 types of tightness per my doctor. Tightness to liquids and tightness to solids. If you are tight to liquids that is not a good thing. If you are tight to solids and don't mind eating softer foods and still lose it is a personal decision on whether or not you should stay there. Also, keep in mind that the folks who have lost a ton of weight fast exercise a lot. Are you mobile enough to do a few minutes on the treadmill? 70 lbs is fantastic. Remember the average weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week. Typically the first year you can lose 50-60% of your excess body weight. 10 lbs a month which you are running puts you at 120 lbs your first year. That is reasonable but you must exercise regularly and have good restriction. I have seen one member on these boards lose 200 lbs in 18 months. JulieNYC is her name . You can find her under plastic surgeries has she has had a few. You may want to send her a private message asking her what her secrets are. she is wonderful and I'm sure it would be very helpful. Keep the faith. The band does work. For some of us, it just a slower process. Julie

    Gaining...

It is very normal. I didn't gain but stayed the same for almost a month after starting a normal diet. It takes your body time to reset itself again. Realize you didn't gain 5 pounds of fat. Most of that you lose at first is water anyway. Just be patient and it will work itself out. It's a slow process!

    Please Help

I found out the more Protein I eat the more weight I lose. I try to eat between 70 to 100 grams of protein a day. If you follow your doctor's nutritional guidelines you will not go wrong. Hang in there. You are doing great!!!! Good luck Deb

    First Fill

The first 4-6 weeks are for healing, not weight loss. If you watched a video of your surgery you'd realise why it's so important to listen to what your Dr says and stay with what's on your list to eat. At this point though, you are very likely ready for a fill. You'll want to make sure to monitor your Protein intake, Fluid intake, weight, etc. to show your Dr. your progress and your current situation. Don't lie about anything. Some people are tempted to say that they're losing weight to make themselves feel good - that won't help you. You likely won't get a fill if you're losing. Conversely, if you lie and say you're not losing but you are - then you risk actually being overfilled. If you go see your Dr with a good track document showing how you're doing s/he'll be able to make the right decision for what you need at this point. If you are super hungry all the time and feel like you could eat anything tell them that. But don't tell them you CAN eat everything if you've just come off of a liquid diet. Chances are you can't eat as much as you think.

    Problem

Hello, I have an interesting problem. I currently see a nurse practitioner for my annual check-ups and arthritis medication. When I began exploring the idea of weight loss surgery, etc. I brought it up to her and she was not supportive at all. She said to drink slimfast an exercise. So I began seeing a different doctor and he helped me with my journey. I seen him for close to two years and he helped me through the process of preparation, paperwork, etc. The only thing he did for me was help me with that one area of my life where my nurse practitioner would not. I do not see that doctor anymore as he has moved and does not practice here anymore. I still see my nurse practitioner and recently I went in for my annual physical and had blood work done. Well she called me today and apparently my hemoglobin is 9 and it should be 12 and I am anemic. She thinks i may be bleeding somewhere. She is setting me up for an upper GI and a colonioscapy (sp) Well here is where it gets tricky - She does not know I had the lap band surgery. I have never had any problems, etc. and she is going to find out now that I need to have these tests done. I do not think my issues are band related as I have never had any issues with my band, etc. but I have had more reflux than normal lately. I do not know why I never told her - I guess because she never was interested in helping me with my weight loss issues. I have contacted my surgeon and made an appointment to speak with him regarding the results from the blood work, etc. So how do I tell her about my band? Banded in Bear Lake
  7. I am 47 years old in menopause and I have an enlarged thyroid. I am considering the 21 day fix, by Autumn and beachbody, any advice? does anyone know if it will work? It seems like an awful lot of food...but I am willing to try it. Someone please tell me what to do, I do not want this weight back, and I am desperately seeking advice before I buy this plan.

    Stall/Gaining HELP!?!

Oof, I’m a bit over 6 months and I’ve also been stalled for about 1.5 weeks. Very annoying, since I’m getting plenty of exercise and 1000 calories per day. At my height that’s definitely a calorie deficit. I’ve just decided to step away from the scale for a few weeks and not worry about it. If I was snacking a ton or eating things that were off-plan that would be one thing but I just don’t think that’s the case. If I’m still this weight in in two weeks then I’ll be back here with a bit more panic and plans to shake things up. Otherwise, just the lovely scale driving us nuts as it loves to do.
  10. Going crazy. I just want to eat. I know I know. It's in my head. It's not that I'm craving junk or anything. Literally. Just want to eat. Especially meat. This is very hard. It's such a mental game. Those who are a month or so out... How are you doing now that you can have solids?? I just can't stop thinking about eating. It's sad. But very real. Surgery day weight 264.5 Current weight 250.5 Yes exciting and very awesome. But lordddddd. I would love some chicken. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

4 days to go until brisbane

Today is Saturday the boys had softball this morning they played well. I have a few things on my mind and I dont know what to do or who to talk to. Anyway its like this I want to be thin so bad I even enjoy walking of a morning but what the hell am I going to to about my addiction. All I think about is food I know I have made it this far and Im proud of myself. But I am now starting to have withdrawals and I hate it. If I tell Darren or mum how i feel and what it is going on in my mind they will be very disappointed with me and I dont want that. I dont want Darren to be angry with me because I love him and I hate arguing with him it hurts me. I dont need the food because Im not hungry and I know its bad for me so why do I crave it. I hate myself because of my head. I thought I was going good what is happening to my head. How am I going to get out of this head space. Do I need to go and see Jean. I cant say anything in Brisbane because they will get angry at me and I hate the feeling of anger towards me. I hate the thought of letting people down , I dont want to let anyone down, I have failed at this before time and time again over and over. Im scared that I am going to lose it and take it out on Darren and the kids and I dont want that because its not their fault , I cant let myself take it out on the ones closest to me . Im a bit pissed off at myself because I thought I would have lost more weight by now but anyway I have so I have to put up with it. Brisbane on Wednesday .
  15. I had my surgery on June 4th 2014. I have syarted eating soft texture foods. With me started to eat rhis I have been feeling like I am gaining weight. But when I weighed my shelf I only lost one pound. I not sure if I doing any of this right. I trying drinking water and flavored water.also drink my protien shakes. But no matter what I do anything that goes in my stomach. I feel nasuted or sick. Can anyone tell me why I am doing, to keep feeling this way?
  16. I’ve had my lap band since 2004 and while I’ve had my fair share of difficulties, I am absolutely sure I could not survive with out it. I’m hoping others here can relate because it’s exhausting to try to explain to the well meaning family and friends who see me struggling and suggest I “just have the band removed”. I am definitely on the tight end after my last adjustment but am so desperate to lose weight that I’ve been trying to make it work. However now I am on vacation and having debilitating lower stomach pains and nausea after eating or drinking. This has been happening off and on for a couple of months but the last few days have been agony. It doesn’t feel band related to me and whenever I have a stomach issue without an obvious cause, the doctor usually tends to blame the band - even though I’ve had a history of stomach problems since childhood. Anyway, I am extremely concerned these are symptoms of an ulcer and/or that the band has slipped from retching so forcefully. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I’m feeling very overwhelmed and alone so any advice or information would be so very helpful! Also if anyone happens to have a recommendation for any resources near Fort Myers FL just in case that would be great! Thanks so much in advance! Wishing all a happy and healthy new year!

    Finally!

The stupid scale finally moved 6 tenths of a pound down this morning! Took 9 days but whew it feels good to finally see it go down. I was talking with a co worker today who got the sleeve done last week. We were discussing how other people comment on our weight loss and how hard it is for us to see us the way others do. I mean I never saw myself as the 346 lb girl that I was until I started losing weight and now I see it. The problem is now I can't stop seeing myself as the 346 lb girl and i'm 103 lbs lighter! I can see the difference in pictures but in day to day life I think in my head people look at me and see THAT girl and that's how it'll always be. I wonder if other people feel that way.

    Dumping

Cream of wheat. I was 3-4 weeks post-op,it was approved, I had about 1/2 a cup, but I hadn't eaten anything else all morning, had no Protein in my system at all and it was just to large of a carb lad for my system. After experimenting, I now know I can eat ream of wheat but I have to have t least 1/2 of a Protein shake first....the protein balances out the carbs and prevents the crash. HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 219

What was your starting weight? & how tall are you?

    information please !

Anything is possible if you work for it. With the band you have the tool and you will and do need to do the work. There are some on here who have lost large amounts of weight very quickly with the band. It's going to come off the way you and your body allow it to. Though 30 pounds by July is not unrealistic if you are watching portions/calories and getting in some exercise.
  23. Bandista

    information please !

Hi there, when will you be banded and do you have a pre-op diet? Many people lose a chunk on pre-op. The first couple of months post-band are really about healing, not weight loss, as you get used to the new lifestyle. If you are able to lose now before you get started, that's all weight that you shouldn't see again. The band is designed to assist weight loss by lessening your appetite so you can make good decisions. Once you have surgery you will probably get fills to reach the green zone so it is not an overnight solution. I thought in terms of a year rather than in months. Also exercise is really important so whatever you are able to do now, try to do more and work yourself into a real routine as that will greatly assist the weight loss.

    1 month post op

Sleeved 12/19/16 Start weight 208 Current 190 I feel the same. I thought I would lose more and I barely lost 18lbs I'm not happy at all. But I do agree that if the starting weight was on the smaller side then it will take longer but it's frustrating when you have gone through so much. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    1 month post op

I'm one month out and also down just 15 lbs although my doctor said that is good as many patients retain fluids after however I read all the posts of people losing like 30+ lbs in first month. Also of course the heavier individuals are the more they'll likely lose in beginning. Perhaps 15 lbs is good for our starting weight? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
