    Divorce

Here we go again. After a reasonable day, he's off to crazy town again. Wish they would cancel that express bus..lol My lawyer sent me a sample parenting plan, which husband and I had already discussed and mostly agreed on. I tried to be cooperative & took my revisions up to him and he was going along ok then suddenly exploded at this paragraph (in summary): If one parent has to go out of town or be away overnight during their week, the other parent will be contacted first to pick up our daughter and keep her with them during the other parent's absence. The other parent will keep the child until their return or their week starts. If the other parent then agrees or chooses, the child may be placed with a grandparent or trusted family member/friend instead. What I mean by this is that if he has to go out of town for work or whatever and it falls on his week, I will have our daughter, rather than say his mother, another relative or (down the road) a girlfriend. That I as her mother (and vice versa in all of this) have priority over anyone else. He somehow took this as me having a problem with our daughter staying with his mother - which I don't she is simply not her mother and his mom lives about 45 minutes away from us. I tried explaining this but he won't listen to me. He then said we'd have to go to court over this, as he wouldn't agree to it now. I DON"T GET HIM!!! ARGH!!!!! Anyone see a problem with this? Any ideas on what I can do differently? Any peeks into the workings of a crazy man? As always help & support deeply appreciated. Here we go again, another weekend in hell. Boy, I remember a time when I looked forwar to the wekend. I am actually thankful for this outburst as it reminds me that this kind of behavior is why I'm divorcing him, he's unstable and tries to make everything my fault. ps - things rough at work too...I feel like there is almost nowhere I can go to be free.

    My new live journey

@@lovemyself Good luck! Glad you researched and came to a decision. I just had the sleeve (revision from band) on 5-25 and feel good. I'm very glad that I took action. Keep in touch.
  3. I think for the most part, the diet we follow post-surgery (whether sleeve or bypass) is what is known as protein-prioritized keto (there's a FB group if you are interested). Keep protein high, fats low to moderate, and carbs low. In fact, I really don't understand the (traditional keto) focus on high fat since the reason most people lose weight is because of low carbs. And of course protein is better for you than fat. That said, some people may be more sensitive to fatty foods after bypass (I just had a bypass revision myself and this is something I'm concerned about). I would talk to your doctor/nutritionist to see what they think.

    Anyone From Texas?

I'm close to Galveston, Tx....about 30 min from Houston....I'm getting through my pre-op testing for a revision from my Band that slipped 2 months ago....once I finish with my EGD, I can set surgery....my surgeon will be Dr Garth Davis at The Davis Clinic...my previous surgeon was Dr Marvin for my Band in 2007 but he is no longer on my insurance, but I am very happy with Dr Davis
  6. I had a revision in May and am down 83lbs (102 total). I think that is pretty damn good! Granted, I am trying very hard, but my point is that I am a successful revision. I know soccermama has had a revision as well and is doing amazing.
  7. Hi... i hope you are recovering well. I was revised from band to sleeve... and the difference is like night and day. When i had my band removed i did have a "phantom" band for a few weeks... but once that subsided my tummy was like my pre band tummy... normal. Now that i am sleeved and healed... it just feels like a normal stomach... i can eat and drink without feeling odd sensations, pressure or food getting stuck like the band. Earlier out when i was healing, if i ate too fast or didn't chew properly i would get a little "stuck" feeling.... but nothing like the stuck feeling with the band... sort of like.. stuck without that heavy pressure. For me, once i passed the first 3-4 weeks... everything just became easier.... now i feel like a normal person, who just eats smaller portions.. Water isn't a issue and i am meeting or exceeding my daily goals. One thing i will mention... as an ex bander... you will find you can fit a little more food/fluids than virgin sleevers... as we have less sensation in our esophagus because of the band.... so its important that we measure out food until we can adjust to reading the full signals...

Anyone else having surgery in December?

revision from lapband to bypass for dec 9th. I'm excited about to start my 2 week pre op
  10. I can certainly relate to your pain! I am a month post op and am eating soft foods. I have messed up a couple of times, but I haven't "cheated" big because of fear; I am so scared I'm going to mess up my band that it keeps me honest (mostly!) I really hated the liquids phase because, not only was I mentally "hungry", I was physically STARVING. Those liquids just did not stick around long enough. But I managed, purely because I didn't want any complications; I was self pay and couldn't afford revision. I still worry that I'm eating too much; the hunger and satisfied signals are more subtle now, but I'm doing my best. YOU CAN DO IT!!!! sara

    December Sleevers?

I am scheduled for Dec 9th. I'm so excited to finally get this started. I had Lapband Jan 2009. I lost almost 90 pounds then had a slip and revision surgery in May 2010. Then I started having problems again and had it removed in March 2012. I've since gained all the weight back that I previously lost (that has been pretty devastating!). I can't wait to get on the losing track again.
  12. Anyone out there who carries the slightest belief that weight loss surgery (of any type) is the "easy" way out should have to read your story. I'm a RNY and so have no experience with the band so I can't offer you any more then my sincerest wish that you are able to get a revision some day. My heart truly goes out for you.

    February Surgery ?

I'm Feb 3rd. I'm getting a revision from mini gastric bypass to full bypass to fix acid reflux. I only have a 3 day liquid diet, first 2 days are full liquids and 3rd day is clear liquids. I'm going back to Mexico because insurance won't pay for the revision. They said the acid reflux is a complication of my prior wls which is so not true! but whatever insurance does whatever it wants.
  14. I only have to do liquids for two weeks and this week which is my second week I can do whole liquid like yogurt and stuff. So I don't think you starting softs after two weeks is bad, since that's what I will be doing as per my Dr. I no that when I weigh myself I get really depresses so I try to do it only once a week which is killer. I had my revision on May 6th and actually gained 8 pounds of fluid I guess. I was so depressed because I am not eating and still gained weight. Today I finally went back to my post op weight minus 2 pounds. It will come off just stop stressing, with the band some weeks I lost a lot, some weeks I lost a little, and some weeks nothing.

    AM I CRAZY!

For me I could not lose all of it on my own my highest weight was 480 I got town to 430 on my own . Could not get past 430. Every time I did I shot back up to 430 . I got tired of going up and down with my weight .i use to weigh 220 . I was hit head on in 91 and shot up to 484 fast . So getting in the gym was very hard to do . I chose the lap band first mainly cause insurance , and it went good . I lost 100 pounds on it but it was slipping and well the removed it in 3 months of putting it in . They put it back in cause I was scared of the by pass but I did not lose any weight after they stuck it back and it was slipping agin . So I went in to see dr suh and we revised it to the sleeve I am just 3 weeks out I had surg on may 30 I have lost close to 30 pounds so far . I seem to be constipated but I don't eat much . I had bad heart burn a week after surg and I had to end up mixing the Pepcid with nexium twice a day and it seems to work . Other then that I am not hungry . I just start cardio at the gym a week ago . But I am excited I was scared but I was getting to the point where I was walking worse everything was getting harder to do . And I just got tired I can do it on my own and keep it off . I think this is a great tool to get you down so you can maintain and feel better it takes work .. The surg is not a walk in the park but it was worth it for me . I am trying to get to 220 back where I was and hope I will keep it off with the new life style I am moving into .

    plastic surgery

About two years after being banded, I had a panniculectomy with rectus muscle repair. I had a complication (one of those resistant infections--had to be readmitted and on IV antibiotics for about ten days), but I was MO at the time and the supervising surgeon told me that the complication rate for that surgery on an MO patient is 100%. A year later, still MO, I had a breast reduction and he tweaked the panniculectomy a little to remove dog ears. My "wisdom" such as it is, is that the belly probably could have waited, had I been in search of perfection. What I went for at the time was relief from that hangy thing. But I'm glad I didn't wait for the boobs. It is NOT a painful surgery and the recovery goes pretty fast (all things considered) and I think I can get by with what I have even when I lose more weight. Also, I went to our daughter's (she wore a 36-J bra) PS for the boobs and the panniculectomy revision. I told him I didn't want to look like Paris Hilton, I wanted a more Rubenesque shape. He "got" that and had no problem doing the surgery on someone who was not at any "goal" weight. Good luck with this!

    Before the surgery

I had severe acid reflux prior to surgery, so I had gastric bypass because sleeve will only make the condition worse. Many on this site had sleeve only to have it revised to gastric bypass because of problems with GERD after they were sleeved.

    Insurance

My surgeon submitted my information to my insurance company, My insurance sent it back stating that they needed a letter from my primary care physician. My primary care physician wrote a letter stating I needed the surgery. I was denied by my insurance company however my surgeon did a peer to peer with the insurance company. My surgeon called stating that they need another letter from my primary care physician stating that they she recommend the revision and the letter must have her signed signature. A little history I had the sleeve in 2015 and lost 30 pounds and have gained 30 plus back. Now I want the gastric bypass. Do you think the insurance company will now approve me.? My primary physician will submit a new letter on Monday and then my surgeon will submit the information again for approval. Anyone ever experience this before. My insurance company is APWU

    Questions about DS surgery

Hi all! I had a band in 2006, revision to sleeve in 2015. Now having excrutiating nausea, GERD, heartburn, etc. Had the endoscopy PH study and am having reflux episodes/vomiting every 16 minutes!! Having an upper endoscopy tomorrow to rule out Barrett's. My doc gave me three options this morning. 1. Fix hiatal hernia and hope that works, 2. Revise sleeve to by pass and hope that works, 3. Do nothing and live with it. I started at 234 pre band and have only lost 40 or so pounds and have lost and regained the weight many times over the past years. Considering taking all my records and getting a second opinion closer to home. My doc does not do a ds, so would like to hear what another surgeon may say about that. Any words of wisdom?? Thank you!
  20. Ok so here is my story, I originally had gastric bypass Jan 7 2007, I weighed 292 and 4 years later I had my first esophagus stricture due to a stomach ulcer, my weight was normal and other than my stricture I was able to eat anything I wanted, I recovered from the ulcer an stricture and went on as normal until last year 28th Feb I had another ulcer which caused a small bowel stricture, doctor took me in for surgery to remove the ulcer, I weighed 161 lbs day of surgery, an when I awoke from anesthetic the doctor said he noticed my pouch was stretched out and revised it for me, since then I am barely a 100lbs and everything I eat including soup hurts and causes gases burping and vomiting, I throw up at least 2 times a day from attempting to eat, ...I just want to go back to normal, ...how can a doctor revise my surgery without consent?

    No requirements????

I’m revising from sleeve to SIPS and was told by my doctor that I need 6 months medically supervised diet psych evaluation and all the other fun stuff. I called my insurance today and they told me there’s no requirement except I have to go through a different dept. which basically guides you through and make sure you are ready for surgery. I’ve had WLS twice. From band to sleeve and I’ve never heard this before. I have UHC. Has anyone else ever been told that??

If you had bypass 20 years ago you would not be able to revise to a sleeve. You have a few options, a band after (band after bypass), ERNY, DS <--not suggested), or there are a new set of procedures such as Rose, Restore, and stomaphyx but the results so far from what I have read are about as close to 100% failure as one can get. Those procedures are designed to tighten up your stoma and decrease the size of your pouch but every person I have read has lost about 20# on the post op diet then they regain again. There is another procedure that literally burns your stoma and causes scarring thus, a smaller stoma. Some docs like it, some don't. You usually have to have several treatments. I don't have an opinion of it one way or another because I've never done extensive research on it. There is a doc in MX that specializes in bypass revisions, I can't think of his name. I don't remember where in MX he is, Ensenada?? I forget. But that is all he does is bypass revisions and open bypass for very high BMIs. There are two surgeons that are experts in band after bypass, one is my doc and the other is Rumbaut in Monterrey. A band after bypass is tricky to do and you really need to go to someone verrry experienced or it won't work and you'll lose the band or have many problems down the road. It's not an easy procedure to do. You can verify licensing, certification, credentials, and education quite easily. Go to someone that is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. The American College of Surgeons has already done an exhaustive background check and those docs have to have to meet the same standards as US docs. There are not many non-FACS docs I would go to outside of the US. Otherwise you are left to believe whatever the patient coordinator tells you and they will absolutely tell you anything you want to hear to get your business.

    Would insurance reimburse later?

I'm an insurance agent, and have never seen a claim be paid for an excluded procedure retroactively. Tricare does cover the procedure at MTFs that offer the procedure just to let you know that is how I had my revision covered 100% by Tricare Prime.
  24. June 22 for me! I was supposed to have a band put in May 26, but they couldn't because of a huge hiatal hernia. So sleeve it will be, and after doing research, I'm pretty happy with with my alternative. People on the board who have had revisions of the band to the sleeve sound very happy with the sleeve, as do the people who have only had the sleeve. I'm grateful the sleeve is covered by my insurance!
