    My Post-Op Plan...whew!

My surgeon is even more strict, I think. 1st week post-op was just Water, broth and diet Jello. I went to see him today (9 days after surgery) thinking that, yipee, I might be permitted some yogury or cottage cheese or creamy soups. But no. Not for me yet. At this point I may only add Protein drinks to my list. For another 3 weeks! And then, when I hit one month post-op, I am then allowed to add cottage cheese, ricotta cheese and yogurt. Nothing else. At 6 weeks I can add the following: string cheese, refried Beans, Soup (lentil, split pea, black bean, miso or egg drop, and tofu. And then, at week 7, I can add chicken turkey, fish and eggs. And all during this time, no caffeinated coffee. *sigh* On the upside, I've lost 19 pounds in 9 days!!

    What's for breakfast?

The pancake recipe above is not my normal Breakfast. It's a hit the craving and get it out of the way for me. I use my own Protein powder. I add as much as I like...I also use sugar free maple syrup My normal is egg whites. Prosciutto (paper thin Italian bacon) and asparagus. or a light and fit Carmel Apple pie geek yogurt. Has little pieces of apple. So good.

    sugar free jello

Today I made SF Vanilla pudding and I had Greek yogurt today for the first time. I did pretty well with the Greek yogurt But I had added protein powder to my pudding And once again the protein made me nauseated. I am looking so forward to one day chewing my food again.
  7. Totally not a troll... In fact, why would someone lie about what something like that?? The day I left the hospital I was on Full Liquids (clear only in hosp.) Day 8 I went to soft foods. I just started off with the softest things like yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Then worked my way up to ground meats. I have not once had a bad reaction to anything. I totally agree with @sillykitty, everyone's healing process is different. What works for me may not work for you. Doesn't mean our surgeons don't know what they're doing. My surgeon has a very high success rate so I doubt he'd tell me to do anything that would negatively effect me.

    Lemon Greek Yogurt with Raspberries

sounds AMAZING!!!! Ive been too experimenting with greek yogurt. I found that some real lemon juice, and some splenda with sliced strawberries is really tasty and a great "dessert" or snack. but your idea sound even better! whare do you get french vanilla stevia though?
  9. Yes- 24 hour to 48 hour liquid only!! GO SLOW!! I'm 6yrs out, felt like a little fill would help me lose last 15#--- wrong 0.3cc made me overfilled!!! I have had horrific reflux, can't sleep even sitting up, choking, burning, coughing, PB'ing, sliming, very few solids, too tight for yogurt, takes an hr to drink protein-- going for unfill. I tried to allow swelling to go down- I've waited a month, I'm too tight for liquids even. Less than 1cc can make a HUGE difference!!

    February 2016 sleevers?

Me too! though I'm here until Sunday. The mentioned I shoild try drinking water today (I had my leak test) and that they'd try me on some thin yogurt drink thing tonight, but no drink. Given that I've been zipping water and it still kind of hurts I'm glad though. I'm home now! They started me on this 15g protein shake - it was fruity and actually good. Plus broth, jello and Popsicles. I had to focus on the shakes yesterday and got two in. Just drank one on the 1.5 drive from San Francisco to Sacramento. Taking a break and will just sip water. This afternoon ill try to drink a premier protein shake. It has 30g of protein in it so if I can't get anymore after that im OK. Hope they get you your yogurt drink soon. Does it hurt when water goes down or your whole stomach? I drink, it goes down, and then a second later it hurts, I have to wait for it. I was given something warm to drink this morning that didn't hurt so much (was it tea? was it chocolate? no idea, it was brown and milky and didn't really taste like anything) I was able to finish the mug in about 20 mins or so, and bad my first bm after, so things seem to be ok.
  11. I was worried too about leaking and blood clots. I got up 6 hours after surgery and walked around the unit. I walked a lot. 16 hours after surgery my surgeon wanted to discharge me. I asked to spend one more night and he said ok. My advice is to walk and move a lot. Am now 13 days post op and have lost 18 pounds. I am still on a liquid diet. I have to be on liquid diet for 5 weeks. I am not hungry at all and forget to eat. I used to e so jealous of people when they said that. Now I finally know what it's lik!e. week 6 of pst op is puréed foods. But right now I focus on where I am at. I should be eating 800 cal a day. I am lucky to get in 400 and I am satisfied. I should have thrre protein drinks made with skim mil and one yogurt i have 2 shakes and a yogurt right now ii get my protein powdwer from my doctor. It's called Rutein But I worry about healing and not leaking more than eating a food that could Casey so much trouble. Down the road I will get he food I desire and hopefully at a smaller quantity. I have no desire o go off track and eat. Focus on why you are having the surgery. I am so pleased I did it and worked through my fears. You will too-- good luck!
  12. The protein shakes do get old the first week, but they do help. Each doctor is different in their post-op instructions so I'm not sure how long you have to be on liquids. I know when I started with soft foods, cottage cheese and high-protein yogurt helped me get my protein. Check the protein shake cook book at bariatricfoodie.com, too. All the best to you!

    Constant hunger?

I have three weeks of post-op liquid diet and am almost two weeks through it. I'm allowed to have unflavored Greek yogurt, skyr, and sugar-free fat-free puddings on my "liquid" diet and I find those help a lot. Also, warm savory things help—phở broth, miso soup, chicken broth. And the Fairlife nutrition shakes that taste exactly like chocolate milk seem to assuage my hunger. It is better now than it was immediately post-op, for what it's worth.

5 years out need advice please

Way to go! You are getting your head back in the game. Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out. I never use the bariatric store. When you deprive cravings, you want them more. Are there better options that you can buy for sweet and salty cravings? Hope others can jump in here and help with healthy sweet and salty snacks that are more cost effective. make sure food advice fits your food plan.. Sweet: Plain fruit, fruit dipped in sugar free cholate syrup Salad greens, chicken, strawberries, blue cheese and pecans Skinny girl raspberry vinaigrette. Dannon lite n fit Greek yogurt sugar free popsicles Roasted pumpkin and apple drizzled with sugar free maple syrup. sprinkle with cinnamon, (small amount with your protein goes a long way) Salty: Veggies dipped in hummus (cut calories by mixing plain yogurt in hummus) Chicken fajitas or taco salad (no tortilla) Parmesan cheese crisps Cup of chicken broth.

Post-op diet: how long did you do liquids?

I did two weeks of full fluids post-op (pudding, cream soups, yogurt, shakes, etc.) and 2 weeks of soft foods and then moved to solids on week 5.

    Vitamins.....

i am supposed to be taking 2 multis and 3 Calcium daily, along with a pill to prevent gall stones. none of these pills can be taken at the same time as any other pill. it's super annoying, especially because i am eating about 1500 cals a day, and so i am not malnourished. so, i am taking only 1 multi and 1 calcium a day. i don't need more calcium than that because i am drinking milk and eating yogurt. the thing is, the Vitamin instructions from my doc are the same for banding and bypass except that bypass is supposed to take a b12 pill also. but since i don't have part of my intestines bypassed, and i am able to absorb all of my nutrients, why do i need to take as many pills as a bypass patient? sorry, this is sort of a sore subject for me. i got yelled at by the nutritionist at my last post op. oh well.
  17. I agree wholeheartedly! I can tolerate 1oz of blueberries, or any other dark berry, 1 1/2oz of Granny Smith apples or unripe pear, and 1oz of peaches. LOL. I eat them about 2-3 times per week with something else--usually a mixture of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt, or a string cheese + almonds or walnuts. Otherwise my blood sugar spikes to 170 and doesn't come down after 2hours!

    Easing in to pre-op diet?

My doctor is not an advocate of all liquid...I can have cottage cheese, yogurt and one serving of softened proteins and steamed spinach.2 to 3 shakes and I feel fine...isopure liquid protein is my new friend.
  20. I never measured or tracked my food or counted calories, so I can't give you numbers. But When I reached my surgeons goal I started adding calories in the form of more fat and carbs. I was already pretty maxed out on protein calories. Switched from skim to 2% milk. Regular Greek yogurt instead of 0% fat. Switched from PB2 to real peanut butter. Ate more fruit. Traded a couple protein bars for some whole grain Kind and Ancient Grain bars. Started adding Kashi Go Lean cereal to my Greek yogurt. I ended up losing another 22 pounds, which was 12 pounds below my personal goal. I was actually getting a little annoyed because I didn't want to have to buy MORE clothes in a smaller size. But finally my body just stopped losing when it stopped and I've easily maintained within 4-5 pounds of my lowest weight for over 14 months. I would have been happy even 20 pounds heavier if that's where my body wanted to be. It's just a matter of figuring out what you are happy eating and what kind of lifestyle you are willing to maintain long term. Maintenance is boring, so you gotta like what you do.

    Protein Intake

I don't see why not - I used to mix in some of the unflavored whey isolate as it cooled. I never tried mixing in the yogurt but that sounds like a good alternative/addition if one isn't restricted to clear liquids at the time.

    5-Days Out... so Many Changes!

WOW! That IS restrictive!!! In my program, they wouldn't even let you leave the hospital until you could tolerate mushies... oatmeal, to be exact. When you get home, for three weeks you eat mushies, which include pureed food... cottage cheese, oatmeal, Greek yogurt, soft boiled egg, pureed tuna salad OR chicken salad, anything mushy. However, they specify really TINY quantities... like 1/8-C pureed tuna salad and 1/4 Cup chicken broth is lunch. Liquids DO feel best, however... lol. Maybe I'll dial it back a bit and cleve to the power shakes for the rest of the week. Thanks for the good advice!

    whats everybody eaten today

Saturday was a bad day, I ate some fruit for breakfast and was sooooo busy I virtually didnt eat all day. I got by with coffee, a spoonful of Peanut Butter and probably 4 potato chips and a glass of wine at ,y niece's birthday party. I had spaghetti bolognaise out of the freezer for dinner, about 1/2 a cup. No vegetables, hardly any Protein, too much caffeine. Difference is in my previous life on a day like that I would have swung through the drive through for a large quarter pounder meal and hoed into the chips, cake and junk at the birthday party. Yesterday was better: Breakfast - muesli with greek yogurt, pureed berries and skim milk lunch - brie and mustard preserved apricots on Water crackers (4) and a banana Dinner - a bbq'd sausage, new potatoes and a big salad, small glass of wine.
