For Those at Least 8 Weeks Out - How Much Food is Your Sleeve Holding?
cbrr replied to Pea523's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 9 weeks out and I'm eating a Protein shake with a banana blended in for breakfast, about a 1/3cup of some kind of protein for lunch, and the same for dinner. I'll usually have an 80 cal yogurt for a snack or maybe some pieces of cheese. I've just started trying to get in some veggies like green Beans or broccoli. I also put some cheese on top of my chicken or whatever to add more protein. I have some low fat swiss that's carb free and only 50 cals. Something else I've been doing is broth with powdered Gelatin in it. That's 10 more grams of protein and 50cals. What I'm wondering is....how many calories were people consuming at this point out? I average about 780/day. I also am not losing weight. I went up a pound last week then finally lost that today but it's been stalled at 243 for about 1 1/2 week. Argggh! Also, sorry to post this in here but I haven't figured out how to start a thread and ask these questions. -
Yoplait Greek 100 yogurts, are the best. Discovered the apple pie flavor, it tastes just like apple pie, try some

Soft food stage problem
OutsideMatchInside replied to triplethreat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you start on soft foods. Eat one thing at time. Don't mix things. If you eat just chicken, you would know if your issue is chicken. If you eat just yogurt you would know it is yogurt. -
How few calories are you taking in post-op?
dianegoe replied to With His help's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You guys are so LUCKY!!! I would die for pudding or cream soups. I feel like my surgeon (who does not have an ounce of fat on him) must want to punish us for being fat. I think he's so stict because he primarily does gastic sleeve and RNY proceedures. He treats everyone the same. So his lapband people have no food because his sleeve patients have no food. I can't wait for something like yogurt or applesauce, or creamy soup anything that is not a liquid protein yucky drink. Have a nice Sunday. Diane -
Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, retried beans, sweet potatoes, baked potatoes, split pea soup, ricotta cheese w/pizza sauce, ( awesome) canned tuna/chicken/salmon, hummus, eggsalad! The possibilities are endless!!!!!! I actually looooved the mushy stage:)

Ok....here goes: Hello to everyone! I was sleeved on 5/5/13. Starting weight 196, current weight 158. I love my sleeve! I have never had any kind of complication or problem. I think I could tolerate eating anything...Now, if only I liked meat I would be set. I am trying my best to eat some of the nasty stuff every day. My preferred proteins are the protein drinks like Unjury and Premier Protein in vanilla, eggs, cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt. I do like chicken breast grilled or baked (boneless and skinless) but I get tired of it. We are heaving grilled steak for dinner tonight. I hate it but will try to eat an ounce.......

If your doctor is just saying no protein to make sure that you aren't filling up on empty calories, you should possibly try a whey protein isolate...this can be mixed with water, is already partially broken down so it is easy to digest and has next to no calories, no fat or sugar at all depending on the brand you get. I am trying a meal plan in which I'm eating every 2 hours and this requires me to have protein with a carb each time and as well all know, eating that often with the band can be nearly impossible so in order to get my protein which is extremely important I can have a protein isolate, yogurt, ff cottage cheese, some nuts, tuna mixed with ff mayo whatever works but for abou 3 out of the 6 meals I do have the protein instead of the food because I cannot physically eat that much. You should of course follow what your doctor is requesting, but if the reason is for calories only, this would be worth a shot.

Lita, How are you doing? I am feeling fine...pretty much back to normal. I don't have runs and very little gas anymore. I was advanced to Stage 3 on Thursday and on the following week I was told to go to Stage 4. I did cheat a bit today and had Spanish food but not a lot. I had a meat and cheese empanada and 1 spoon of rice and Beans and a bite of chicken. It was soooooo good but I don't want to start doing that on the regular. The gas will be a problem for you for about a week and then it just goes. I do find I need to eat every 2 hours or so or my stomach will roar like never before. I have Cream of Wheat for breakfast, yogurt for snack, a smoothie or 1/2 c of soup for lunch, an Optifast for mid afternoon snack, and some Protein, veggies for dinner. I always end the day with a popsickle, applesauce, or Jello. My biggest problem is trying to drink 8oz in an hour. I know I need the Fluid but I just forget. I do get full quick but am not losing right now...think I am stagnant. I have been released for exercise so next week its off to the gym. My mini-goal is to lost another 7 pounds by time I go back to the doctor for my first fill on 5/16. Wish me luck!!! I sent you a private message with my email and messenger info...look forward to hearing from you soon.

I am soo hungry
drehn88 replied to herestoanewlife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe try adding nonfat plain greek yogurt to your shakes. It will definitely boost the protein. -
Oh Chris!!! I'm so excited. Tell me what you learned and how the support thing goes. I go to my first one tomorrow night. I'm a little nervous. I don't want anyone looking at me with that.....you know....look that says "Why haven't you lost since surgery, look at how wonderful I've done!" look. I know, just in my head I'm sure, but I'm still nervous. After reading my little temper tantrum above I realize just how hungry I must have been when I wrote it. I was sitting at 2 on the hunger scale obviously! Now that I'm finished preparing for my sub tomorrow and writing my semester tests I finally got to come home. 7:30 am to 8:30 pm was just TOO long of a day I guess. I had some yogurt down in the kitchen I should have gone and eaten, but I didn't want to take the time. Shame on me!! I'll have to be better about that! I came home and had a bowl of cream of wheat and a couple handfuls of soy nuts. Did you know they have a TON of Protein in them? I chewed really well and after about 1/4 cup things were looking up. Enough so that I don't think I need to midnight graze tonight. I'll be on the road tomorrow to go to get my first fill, my first dietician appointment and my first support group. WOW it sounds like a lot to take in tomorrow. I'll be popping in and out in the evening. Let me know how tonight went and how the exercise one goes too. Steph

I would love yogurt! But, my doc said the liquids have to be clear the first week. I can start yogurt and pudding in a few days though...I hope!
-
in the beginning (until I learned how big 3-4 oz looks) I used toddler plates and utensils. also, as someone else mentioned, the small gladware containers are 4oz. they're perfect for measuring 4 oz or for using them for pudding, yogurt, etc. you will very quickly learn to eyeball what 4 oz looks like. I still use my scale for every single meal just to be sure, but definitely invest in a food scale also

First two weeks post op
SummerTimeGirl replied to smarks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well everyone's plan seems to be different. My post up I had TWO weeks of FULL LIQUID which included: Protein drinks, flavored water, gatorade zero and that kind of stuff, strained low fat cream soups, sugar free pudding, sugar free popsicles, low fat milk, blended bean soups, greek yogurt, that sort of thing. I was NOT ALLOWED Juice of any kind or caffeine or carbonation. Did your office give you examples or an actual plan? -
Non sugar dumping syndrome?
1poundatatime replied to Christina.Rose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If it was your first time trying those things, I wonder if it was the volume rather than the food itself? How much did you have? I could only manage 1 oz at first... Have you tried making the tuna salad with plain greek yogurt instead of mayo? That's what I've been doing for the extra protein. It tastes all right. Not quite as good, but a good replacement. -
I'm 11 days post op and I'm mostly liquid. When does your nutritionist let you move on to something soft? I'm up to two teaspoons of plain yogurt. I'm taking an antibiotic because I've had a fever so to avoid a yeast infection I'm doing yogurt for me 3 "meals" this week. Have you eaten Jello? That gave me the sensation of eating while being on the liquid portion of my plan. I also like Popsicles because it's almost like a bite.

Not even yogurt? Fage with raspberry sugar free syrup is my new favorite....

Drink water, go exercise, eat only something like yogurt or cottage cheese. Remember eating too close to bedtime may encourage nighttime reflux. You don't want this this early on/or ever. Don't stay up late - go to bed instead.

The pre-op diets vary from surgeon to surgeon...mine was eating every two hours...i could interchange light yogurt, sf pudding and sugar free applesauce...8 ounces of gatorade a day and a protein shake for lunch and dinner free foods were chicken broth and sf jello Some report being allowed to eat light meals at dinner and various other combinations Ask your nutritionist and I am sure they can give you a copy of what they follow

Protein shakes almost never give me discomfort, it's just a tough call when choosing it over a real meal. Breakfast on an empty stomach is the when my I'm the most sensitive. A little yogurt, cut fruit with a tiny bit of honey sets me up for the day. Oddly enough I went to a "raw foods" restaurant. Where the food isn't cooked above 40c? I went in with zero expectations but I ate plenty with no gas, or discomfort. Generally the healthier the foods, the less trouble they give me. But this is all after ten years post op and I still have to be very mindful. Get to love boiled eggs as snacks, low fat foods and simple food combinations. A burrito, or any stacked sandwich with (fats) cheese, beans (carbs), meat (protein), dairy dressing and spice... I might as well stick a shotgun on my mouth! But I am no longer carrying around two suitcases (100lbs) with every step, which is a good thing. But that's all the physical, the mental attachment to taste stimulation is a different ballgame. Don't replace it with booze. Good luck.

Almost 4 weeks post op and shoulder pain is back
pjd3253 replied to To be free's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my first post-op appt today - I am 10 days post-op - I am having same pain as you and he said it is gas pain and I need to take Gas X or Milk of Magnesia - I did not know it was from gas but now I do - It is not killing me but is very uncomfortable - maybe what I am eating is wrong but I am basically living on soups, cream of wheat, oatmeal, yogurt and protein drinks. Should go away eventually he said. I also have a lower back pain which is also related to gas. -
I'm at perfect tightness--but my eating is in a rut! Some ideas, please...
make33 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm coming up on a year with my Band and I feel terrific, having lost 60+ pounds. I'm at the perfect tightness and I quite think I'm going to maintain around this weight. My problem? I'm having trouble coming up with anything different to eat day-to-day! I have 2 Protein shakes, one for Breakfast and one mid-afternoon to make sure I'm getting my protein numbers. I DO generally have yogurt or a cheese stick mid-morning. Then I have a mini-meal at lunch (1/4 cup leftovers, i.e. baked Beans, spaghetti, sloppy joe) and about 15 wheat thins (or other crackers). My real problem is with dinner: I find I have such trouble with EVERY type of meat except ground meat--cannot do chicken, beef, or pork--and I am even at the point that I can't do refried beans. Of course, no breads, but I can easily do meatloaf, hamburger, sloppy joe, spaghetti, chili. But then I find myself eating potato chips and dip as a side dish! (They go down so easily!) My dear husband, who really really roots for me, even mentioned tonight how many times he's noticed that I'm eating chips and dip for dinner--and that can't be right--it's easy, but I KNOW I've got to get away from it! I have trouble with mashed potatoes and mac & cheese--should I just steam the heck out of vegetables? I'm still losing--but I KNOW I've got to go for nutrition. What do you long-time banders have daily?? :tt2:
