12 Pounds Below Goal...Whatever Miss Pearlie!
PrettyThick1 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Miss Pearlie is a hot mess I tell you. My personal goal was 150, but nooooooo that wasn't HER goal and as we all know, what Miss Pearlie wants, Miss Pearlie gets. So I've quit freaking out about it and I'm just letting her do her. I'm eating just fine, drinking just fine and maintaining my normal activity level and the weight keeps coming off. Fortunately enough, it has slowed to about a pound a week which is allowing my skin to catch up with it a bit more quickly. My mother and some of my friends were freaking out because after a substantial loss, my skin sags, I look tired and aged. That has tapered off and I am now looking younger than I did before the band...which was already really remarkable. There was a time that I wanted to get a slight unfill to bring the loss to a complete stop, but after getting advice from experienced bandsters that I trust I just allowed my body to do what it would, trusting that it would stop losing when it wanted to. I am a lot less stressed out as a result and accepting each day and each new surprise as it comes. It is so weird to look at a pair of pants and say "there is no way I'm getting in those"... hold them up to me and still say "nuh, un...not gonna work", then try them on and they are a perfect fit. I have to just sit back and say "no way, I'm really THAT small?" It is shocking and I thought I was over the body dysmorphia, but I'm not quite there yet. I still see myself as chunky...everyone else sees me as skinny. At 138, I'm still way more solid than my body appears and most people think I'm around 120 / 125 at the most. I love being "little". I don't realize how little I am until someone who I thought was an average weight hugs me and they are wrapped around me. Woooooow! Anyway, I'm thrilled that this first year has been so good for me and Miss Pearlie, I'm glad I chose to get the band rather than the sleeve. It turns out it was the right procedure for me and it hasn't given me any complications, even through a horrible stomach virus which caused me to vomit from below the band several times...she's still sitting pretty and perfect. I thank God for my surgeon, I know a lot of my success can be attributed to his level of skill, expertise and his genuine care for his patients. I wish everyone had him, I honestly don't think you would see any complaints about this surgery if they were all like him. -
For those with a big pannus (fat apron)

I am 7 months out and I just have noticed in the last month or so it is mostly gone. I am sure it is dependent on how much everyone has to lose and how and where they hold their weight. When I was younger I always had my weight mostly in my lower body but as I got older it was in my mid area also. So 7 months for me. I lift weights 4 days a week and working my core is one of the most important area for me. -
Hi everyone I'm almost 5 weeks out I got my sleeve on 2/1 and everything's been running smooth but for the past week I throw up with any protein shake and I've been having a hard time meeting my protein and fluids goals because I'm always so nauseous. Has anyone gone through this? Also this started one day when I had puréed chicken and I'm guessing I ate too fast so I threw up, but now I throw up everyday regardless of how slow I eat I've been regressing back to even thinner puréed foods I'm supposed start incorporating regular soft foods next week but I don't feel quite ready.

Weight loss post op
LosingWeightLiz replied to Zoumommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't hit this stage yet, I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago. but from what Ive read on here, even though its different for everyone, around 3-4 weeks. I think when you start introducing food into your diet. maintain high water and protein, and that helps maintain a continuous loss, even if it isn't as extreme as you are use to now. -
Lita, How are you doing? I am feeling fine...pretty much back to normal. I don't have runs and very little gas anymore. I was advanced to Stage 3 on Thursday and on the following week I was told to go to Stage 4. I did cheat a bit today and had Spanish food but not a lot. I had a meat and cheese empanada and 1 spoon of rice and Beans and a bite of chicken. It was soooooo good but I don't want to start doing that on the regular. The gas will be a problem for you for about a week and then it just goes. I do find I need to eat every 2 hours or so or my stomach will roar like never before. I have Cream of Wheat for breakfast, yogurt for snack, a smoothie or 1/2 c of soup for lunch, an Optifast for mid afternoon snack, and some Protein, veggies for dinner. I always end the day with a popsickle, applesauce, or Jello. My biggest problem is trying to drink 8oz in an hour. I know I need the Fluid but I just forget. I do get full quick but am not losing right now...think I am stagnant. I have been released for exercise so next week its off to the gym. My mini-goal is to lost another 7 pounds by time I go back to the doctor for my first fill on 5/16. Wish me luck!!! I sent you a private message with my email and messenger info...look forward to hearing from you soon.

What is everyone eating? I'm lucky to reach protein and not enough water intake. I've been try a 4oz Greek yogurt for breakfast, then soup or some 1/2 wrap and finally chicken for dinner. I'm not hungry or thirsty.... Looking for help.

Having a hard day...
shedevil replied to 140icandoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is so weird how different our des can be. I was on liquid for 4 days and then we were allowed Turkey, chicken, footage cheese, yogurt, refried beans. At one week we could have veggies and fruits..no skin. I asked my surgeon why the difference. He said there is no proof that going through all the stages makes any difference. He said that they wanted us to get on with our lives. I was nervous but have lost 24 lbs since 8/30. -

gaining weight on soft foods
brittanylau replied to lkingglassalice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was like this from the beginning of my 3rd week until a couple days when I got into my 6th week! It's super frustrating but it's just a dreaded stall I realized everyone hits. But I can assure you it's Water weight, you have to eat ALOT more than you're able to right now to gain 2 lbs of fat. So no worries, just stick to your plan, get in your Protein and liquids and eventually it will fall off. Trust me, I know how frustrating it can be to see you're doing nothing wrong! But it's just your body adjusting to the major weightloss. Good luck!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Going To Mexico For My ...again! Lap Band To Gastric Sleeve Surgery
rahnava posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am working this week to schedule my sleeve surgery with Dr. Garcia for January 30th. Back in 2006 I went to Mexico for a lapband with Dr. Joya. Mexico was great and I enjoyed the experience until my band eroded into my stomach. I've since had it removed and I am healed and cleared for the sleeve. Has anyone ever had this experience and are going to or had the sleeve? I'm totally excited to go back to Mexico. I've never been to a hospital where you ring the call bell and hear people run down the hall. -
I have begun my journey and started thru my "requirements"-attending la minimum of 2 support group mtngs, visits with nutritionist, psy eval next week, blood work in Jan. However, upon reading the requirements of Mass Health, it says they decide on it case by case. My question... my fear-is Ill fulfill my 6 mos requirements only to be denied. Ill be devestated. Should that occur-I will consider traveling to Mexico. Anyone else out there dealing with Mass Health able to offer any input? My bmi is 40 plus and I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea, high blood pressure and have osteoarthritus in my knees. Help! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

Tomorrow...it's only a DAY away!

WOW!! You are da man--I mean WOman!!! You must be one of those super organized people--will bode well for your sleeve future!!! You will be in good hands with Dr. A--he did mine 1 week and 1 day ago....Good luck to you and may God bless you with a speedy recovery! -
I think so long as you have enough time to do the pre-op diet (1-2 weeks depending on surgeon and your BMI) you're good. Once you finish your paperwork you're done- so long as a surgeon has space on the schedule I think they would take you. Mexican surgeons are great with lots of experience, do your research and you'll probably be more than happy with your choice and the care you receive!

Havent Lost Much Weight On Preop Diet- Gastric Sleeve Surgery Monday
bayareanan posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I am scheduled for surgery on Monday. I was told to lose 15lbs before my surgery. I am only down 6. I have been on the liquid and leafy green diet for over a week and have only lost 2 lbs (included in the 6). I am concerned they wont do the surgery. Has this happened to anyone. -
Yes. Very normal. I crave all the time but not like i used to. I have trained myself to eat very well but if i am really craving something i eat it. You can only take in a few bites anyways. Just dont give in all the time. 1x a week maybe. I was dying for an oatmeal cookie and i had one. Nothing happened. I didnt blow up. Lol. No wt gain. We are human. Do an extra workout if u cheat!

I have been reading all the postings for weeks and at that several times a day. This is my first time posting myself and I want to first start out by thanking everyone of you for educating me before my decision to go ahead with "the new me!" I'm now on day 5 of liquids, and haven't cheated, not even once! This is the first for me. On every "diet" or change in my eating, I would atleast try one little something I wasn't suppose to. This journey in my life is so much different than anything else I've ever done. I'm so excited about my surgery date on the 9th, I can't even sleep. The thought of "the new me" has consumed all my thoughts. I find myself on this website atleast four times in the middle of the night. One thing I am a little concerned about is I've just come down with chest congestion. I've lost my voice, feel crapy (SP) and soar throat. I started a five day antibiotic.....what do you think??? Too close to my surgery date being sick? I'm praying that the antibiotic will kick this and I'll feel good as new in a few days. Thanks to everyone again! Kelly

Surgery With Garcia In October?
lilly's journey replied to sacharliem's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hello Sacharliem, I'm still working out my family's work & school schedule but my goal is to have my sleeve w/ Dr. Garcia the same week as you. I'm so looking foward this. -
Are you throwing up, in pain or running a fever? If so , call your Doctor ASAP if not, your probably fine. But if your really concerned you should call your Doctor. Your body is healing, and needs to rest. Walking the first week is probably all the exercise you need, Wait six weeks for anything strenuous.

I could have sworn Dr. Aceves told me I could begin lightly working out when I got back home. So, yesterday morning, I went to the gym and did the elliptical trainer for 20 minutes on the lowest level (I am 7 days post op). Today, I feel like crap - super tired, no energy, etc. I happen to peruse the post op info I was given, and it says to wait until at least 4 weeks post op before exercising!!! I know I was a bit loopy down in Mexico when I spoke with Dr. Aceves about this, so I must have heard him wrong - have I totally screwed myself up? I'm worried that I've put myself at high risk for a leak. Any help appreciated.

December 4Th Anyone?
healthbound1 replied to healthbound1's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi debwin! Sorry it took so long to reply, I was away for work. How is your pre-op diet going? I am from BC (Canada). I might postpone my date though. I just got a promotion at work and I need to fly to our head office for training 3 weeks after surgery. I don't think this is realistic. If my body responds well to the surgery and to drinking all my fluids, it could work but that's if everything goes perfect. I don't know that 3 weeks is enough time to rest and recover though. I'll have to make a decision by tonight so I can change arrangements asap. How is your pre-op going??? Are you getting excited, nervous, both? -
That sounds kind of discouraging....I'm having surgery at that hospital with Rodriguez in 7 weeks....hope you start feeling better real soon and keep us all posted!!
