    Rip Off!!!!

Actually I saw this at Whole Foods and thought it wasn't a bad deal. It's $6.99 for two low carb crusts. Not sure that helps this situation with the delivery but thought I would offer it up as a potential option next time. Customer service is never what you expect it to be and sometimes is eye opening to determine if you are going to order from that company again. https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/product/outer-aisle-gourmet-italian-cauliflower-pizza-crust-5-oz-b089z96t5t
  2. Carbs are in just about everything so I assume your addiction is processed carbs like breads, pastas, etc... It's a learning curve. Like everyone has mentioned you'll have to be creative and come up with healthier alternatives. There's a recipe for pizza crust using cauliflower instead of flower. I make pancakes with protein powder & flax powder instead of flour. It can be done. Just get creative.
  3. For sure find another therapist. Throwing meds is not always the best option. Why have you not applied for disability? It is something we have paid into to have for times like this. It is ridiculous to have to scrape by that close monthly that you are so stressed over it. If you can't work, then that is what disability is for, apply. Good luck, Colleen
  4. Oh yeah, #9granny, donating plasma is the same process as donating blood. So the only pain is a poke in the arm. The main difference is the process of separating the blood cells and returning them to you while they keep the plasma (clear fluids and proteins). I donated while in school and once I qualified after the sleeve procedure (had to be 1 year post major surgery) I started donating again. For me the challenge is to keep my Protein level up so I drink the 20 gm Protein shakes at least once a day and 2 times a day if my readings are low (the plasma center checks your protein every time you donate and will defer you for a week if you drop below 6.0)

    Post op food

I have had both bread and pasta, though honestly they were both a bit underwhelming after not having them for so long. I had a few bites of fettuccine and a little garlic bread at a work luncheon (it was all they provided, so I didn't have options) and it sat fine. As long as they're the exception, not the rule, it's all good. One of the reasons I chose the sleeve was so I didn't have to spend my life not eating certain things ever again.

    Protein muffins

I think how much pumpkin you taste is a function of the protein powder you use. I'm going to try a different brand in the chocolate ones and see how that goes.

    Protein muffins

Hey, I was given a new recipe: banana Surprise Muffins Preheat oven to 350 degrees -15 oz container of LF Ricotta Cheese
-8 oz package of LF Cream cheese (you will need an additional 4 oz of LF cream cheese for the surprise part)
 -1/2 c. Soy milk (I used Vanilla)
 -1/2 c. Splenda
 -1/2 c. Egg Beaters (or 2 eggs)
 -1 tsp of Vanilla
-3 servings of your favorite flavor Protein powder (Of course I used Chike Banana)
-1/4 c. whole wheat flour Mix together all ingredients (except the extra 4 oz of LF cream cheese) in a mixing bowl. Pour into greased muffin tins - I made 12 and I could have made 3 more but I just tossed the excess batter - however the stats below are based on the full 15 for accuracy reasons (if that makes sense). Cut the other 4 oz of LF cream cheese into 12 equally sized cubes and push down into the middle of each muffin (optional).

Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

I haven't made these but they sound divine!

Day 8 Pre Op Liquid Diet

You are doing great! It could be a little water retention. I buy those little crystal light drops and love them. Its ok to have that. There is no calories. The other thing I just got which might help you for when you get through surgery is NutriWise Protein drink enhancers. They are powder that you put in your water. 15 grams of protein so when you don't want a thing but have to get your liquid in - they are a life saver. I bought the Lemon Razzy and it was really good. I also purchased Bariatric Choice drink enhancers. The blue raspberry wasn't so good but the berry was really good. Also 15 grams of protein. I hope they help you. I bought them on Amazon. Can't wait to hear your good news - you're almost there!

    Vegetable Rice Soup--Fabulous!

Easy vegetable-rice soup Serves 4 Of course, you may chop a fresh onion and a bell pepper or two to substitute for the frozen mixture but why? I prefer the convenience. Some frozen onion-bell pepper mixes contain celery or other seasoning vegetables. They work fine, as do larger quantities of the vegetables (if you should find a 1-pound bag, for instance, use that). 1 tablespoon canola oil 12 ounces smoked sausage, such as kielbasa or skinless turkey smokes sausage 12 ounces frozen onion-bell pepper mix 3 to 4 cups minced fresh green cabbage ( I will use a bag of cole slaw cabbage) 2 cloves garlic, minced, about 2 teaspoons 1 teaspoon thyme A 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional 1 quart reduced-sodium chicken broth 2/3 cup white or brown rice 15 ounces canned crushed tomatoes Put oil in a large saucepan over high heat. Chop sausage into A 1/4-inch (or so) pieces ( I cut the sausage in slices then quarter those so I get sausage in every bite), and add to saucepan as you do. When all the sausage is added, cook, stirring occasionally, until it begins to brown. Add onion-bell pepper mix, and stir. Add cabbage, garlic and thyme (and cayenne pepper, if using) as you get them ready. Keeping the heat as high as you can, cook 15 minutes more, stirring occasionally, or until the vegetables are tender and have reduced quite a bit in size. Add chicken broth, 1 cup of water and rice. When the mixture boils, reduce heat, cover and cook 15 minutes, or until rice is tender. Stir in tomatoes, bring to a boil and serve. Serve with garlic bread. Nutrient data per serving: 368 calories, 20 grams protein, 49 grams carbohydrate, 7 grams fiber, 11 grams fat Courtesy of Sarah Fritschner, Courier Journal http://www.blogger.com/home
  10. Mine was very similar! Five shakes a day and a meal at the end consisting of a small amount of protein along with very select vegetables. Is yours for two weeks? One week? Mine was for a month! It can be very hard to get through, but you just have to push through it! The first week or so I was very tired, no energy at all, and just laid on the couch a lot (outside of a bit of exercise.) It got better after that though. Try to get in your liquids, as they do help a bit at least (and a lot for some) when it comes to hunger. As for my surgery, it went very well! The first few weeks were no real issues, outside of normal post-surgery stuff, though now I am dealing with a lot of nausea and general sick feelings. I think it may be attributed to my vitamin pill, or at least that may be part of it. Thank you for asking though! Despite my frustrations and the nausea, I am still glad I went through with the surgery. It's been great to watch the scale go down, down, down!

    PreOp Diet

My surgery is 3/18 also. I don't have a real pre-op diet, just 24 hrs before. What I wanted to say is regarding the protein shakes. try mixing different flavors in with your vanilla protein powder, orange crystal light powder to vanilla protein powder makes a pretty good orange Julius flavor. and pumpkin makes a good shake also. try different amounts of different flavoring. my sister had her sleeve surgery 5 weeks ago, and says she really has to remember to eat. I guess you get a hollow feeling when your hungry which isn't often. She has also started buying vitamin waters at Wal-Mart ($1) she adds crystal light, clear protein powder and miralax to the bottle. gets her protein, liquids, some vitamins and her stool softener all in one. Just play around with what you can have. create your own recipes. for clear liquids, go get you some chicken taco soup, strain it, or wonton soup, strain it. add a little clear protein powder to everything you can. Unjury has a really good clear protein powder, hope this helps. now I just have to take my own advice!!! good luck and stay in touch, maybe we can help walk each other thru this!!
  12. Confession: I’m terrible with numbers. I see that the post-op puree diet suggests meals which include measurements of both ounces and tablespoons (and cups). Are these interchangeable? For example: 4 Tbsp pureed chicken ½ cup refried Beans 3 oz. yogurt ¼ cup cottage cheese 2 Tbsp yogurt I bought a pack of condiment containers which are marked 2 oz. It took about 3 1/2 tablespoons of tuna, when I measured. I also poured a 2 oz container of Water into my ice cube tray, and it fit perfectly into three cubes. So, if I want to measure a proper serving of Protein, am I safe to assume that whatever fits into the 2 oz cup is considered a serving? Or it depends on which food it is (refried beans vs. yogurt vs. pureed chicken?) Thanks!
  13. Has anybody here been rebanded? Would your insurance pay for it? My previous employer's insurance would not so I went to Mexico. My band removal WAS NOT my Mexico doctor's fault. I got a horrible stomach virus that caused me to throw up violently for days and that made my band slip down to the middle of my stomach and it had to be removed. So now I'm at a different job with different insurance-PacificCare PPO. Even though Dr. Ortiz will cut the price back it would still be $6800 and that doesn't count my airfare (which I can get cheap thanks to my airline attendant sister) and my hotel, I can't afford it at least right now. Figured I would contact Dr. Patterson and Dr. Hong at Legacy in Portland, OR and see what my options are there. If I can get the team at Legacy to help me get insurance to pay for it, I will go there. I love Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Martinez and if I had the money, I'd go there in a heartbeat. But right now that's not an option. Anybody have an info to share? Thanks!

    Empty feeling

I also do a Protein shake daily for breakfast. It is a convenience factor for me and I drink them on the way to work. My team if supportive of that. Of course the preference is that you get the bulk of your protein from food but the protein shake is fine long term. There are those in my support group that still do them years out.

    Empty feeling

I still have one premier Protein shake a day - I don't hit my protein target of 80+ without it. When a person is struggling with alot of hunger, they should look at the "makeup" of the diet but I don't agree that it is universal to ban Protein drinks once you are on solid foods, different surgeons have different recommendations. What I think is very detrimental (for me anyway) are the Protein Bars. They tend to be pretty high carb and calorie for the amount of protein and frankly are alot like candy...so they can trigger that snacky carby craving feeling in me. Anyway, hope you are able to get to the bottom of this!

Protein is especially important right now. Congratulations!

    Empty feeling

If you're six months out, the only reason you should be continuing to have protein shakes, or any liquid whatsoever other than your required water, is if you are unable to get the required protein from solid food. Are you having such issues? The above posters are absolutely correct about the effect of solid food on receptors, and you should aim for dense protein at regular intervals throughout the day. Over time, the sleeve stretches to accommodate a little more food bit by bit, and it may be that you need a little more to feel completely satiated. To avoid weight regain in this instance, be sure to choose high quality proteins, and maybe throw in some raw vegetables to fill up the rest of the room, provided you can meet your protein quota. Definitely avoid trying to close the satiety gap with starchy foods, but be sure there is some healthy fat in your diet as well...that provides fullness most effectively, although you don't want to overdo higher calorie stuff for any reason.

    5 day pouch test

I <3 the 5 day pouch test! Every time I do it I lose weight. It is a great way to get rid of your bad eating, sugar cravings and gets you to do better portion sizes. The first 2 days is liquids, then soft Protein then firm protein then regular protein. If you look under the plan there are the days and under the days there are a few recipes you can try. I have never bought the book as I am sure they wouldn't ship to korea and it probably isn't worth the expensive shipping costs either.

    5 day pouch test

I just finished the 5 day pouch test and lost 3.5 lbs! The weight came off on day 2 but it stayed off until today. I had a few slip ups but what was really nice is that I could actually feel my band working again. During 2 meals I had solid and firm protein, ribs and eggs, respectively, and the band stopped me from finishing both! I'm so glad this worked.

    Again??????

I am so sick of soup, protein shakes and especially Isopure! I am doing the Isopure because of the 40 grams of protein, but I can't get it down in one sitting. So I have been doing 1/2 and 1/2. My doctor will not let me have the mushy/pureed food until a week from today. My mouth is actually watering when I think of tuna or chicken salad and I never liked them before. But that is what food deprevation can do to a person. My question is, if you are eating regular food - once past the mushy or pureed stage, how are you getting your 70-80 grams of protein a day? I would love to not drink any more proteins until after a fill. Then my doctor wants 2 days of liquids and back to mushy and then regular food. I have been eating my 3 meals a day, and in between drinking the water. I stop when I start feeling full and then I get a hunger pang or two a few hours later but they go away very quickly. Normal?
  22. Depending on what the reasons are, you can try and adjust your position with pillows, prop your legs up with pillows while raising them up on the recliner. I sleep with either a fan in the window, the ceiling fan, or a big fan on the floor blowing either on me or away from me...any one or a combination, to help me sleep. If I am hungry and cannot sleep, I eat something...even though it's late...getting my protein is the most important thing I have to do...same for you. Perhaps a nice shower, some lotion on your skin, comfy socks, and a hot chocolate...while sitting in front of the tv watching something you enjoy until you fall asleep will help. Try different things until you feel comfy...that should help.

    My Diet

Well she just said I need to try, she did say protein drinks. She also said I can start eating more carbs but eat my protein first. She said try a half of slice of toast with my egg in the morning, of my gosh it just sat in my stomach like a lump, so I guess bread is not for me right now. Have any of you had problems with bread, or have you tried it yet, she said whole wheat and the one I bought had 6 grams of protein.
  24. I agree with Pink Dahlia...eat the good stuff first (protein) and then if you still have the craving have a little of the "fun foods". It will take time for your thought process to catch up to your physical changes. One thing for me is that once I started having my previous foods give me a hard time (getting stuck, feeling uncomfortable, or not making my scale move in the right direction), I slowly changed eating those goodies. Don't get me wrong, I still love Peanut M&Ms and have NO problem getting them down but I can definitely tell when I get on the scale that they don't help me. One motivator for me is when I see no weight loss at the doctor's visit and I can hear another patient with "5 lbs loss" or something similar. But I also realize that I have my own path and I will lose what I have gained in my own time. As long as I don't gain, I am pleased with myself and I know that I am learning what is working for my body. This is a slow process and everyone is on their own speed. I found that Pinterest helps to keep new ideas in my head for eating low carb items like cauliflower mashed "potatoes". Great ideas to be found on there so check that out if you haven't yet. I also try to use MyFitnessPal to keep track of food intake and get motivated by others posts.

    1st blog

This is my first blog, so glad I found this place. I am so glad to have freedom again. I love to ride rides like at 6 flags and Disney world. I have not been able to do this in years and years. I cant wait! Im 59yrs old and I know I will be able to see my grandchildren grow up and be a active part of their lives. I had gastric sleeve surgery on May 13,2013. When I started this journey I weighed 302. I lost 60 pounds before surgery. Today is June 22 and I have lost a total of 65 p. I was discouraged at first but I realized I was not eating enough protein or liquid. When I increased this the weight started coming off. I don't think I am eating enough. When I eat chicken I get full very quickly. I still drink a protein drink for breakfast and a protein bar around 12 noon. This gives me 50 grams of protein. I use fitness pal to help keep track of me carbs and protein. I have went from a size mens 4x t-shirt and now I am almost in a 2x and have went down 3 sizes in pants. I have to go shopping very soon. Im still tired a lot, I have arthritis in my knees. It is better but it hinders my exercising. I sit and do sitting exercise and standing without moving my knees to much. The pool is the best.
