Before Surgery Concerns
J San replied to Janellvp10's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was sent for my endoscopy I had to go for pre op testing at the hospital a week before. They did an EKG, blood work, checked weight, BP and maybe a few other things. I have to do the same next Thursday for WLS surgery. After that is done I have to get a medical clearance from my PCP because of my comorbidities. Maybe because you are healthy you don't need it? Good luck though!!! And tell G-Ma to chill and stop freaking you out. This surgery is safer than crossing the street. -

Depends on insurance. I started the process the first week of January and I'll be having surgery later this month -
When did you all start eating fruit by itself? I'm going on my 7th week and I'm currently on solid foods. My doctor recommends eating at least 1 fruit of day with Protein. I've been adding a half banana to my protein smoothie in the mornings but wondering when I should start branching out and trying other fruit like berries, oranges, peaches, etc? A mandarin orange sounds so good right now!

2 weeks post op pain and burning I am entering week 3 post op. Saw my doctor after one week said all was good and I started feeling better too, felt like I was returning to normal. Today I went to get out of bed and has a sharp pain and burning sensation on my Left side near where your stomach is, near my belly button. Sharp/ burning lasts a minute and then is extremely sore like a bruise. I called my doctor and I do not see them for another two weeks, he said I must have pulled my internal stitch but it just happened again this evening. I have been able to drink and eat my puréed foods with no issues. I am not running a fever either. I am just curious did this happen to anyone else, same location and feeling?

Hello all! My surgery was 6/27, and I was put on solids a week sooner than planned due to severe nausea that pills wouldn't touch. It helped tremendously. I have no pain when eating, only sometimes a slight discomfort once it hits my stomach when I'm full. I only eat eggs, chicken, tuna, some cooked veggies, and only tonight had shrimp. I'm worried that I don't get enough protein in during the day. I can only eat about 4 or 5 bites before being full, anymore makes me past the point. I don't drink water afterwards for an hour at least, and I've been working a lot harder to get water in during the day. Has anyone had this issue or worry a month out? Thanks! I know I just need to take a breather and chill lol! How long we're you in the hospital? When/if I'm approved my doctor wants to schedule me for Sept 24 which is a Tuesday. I already talked to my boss about everything. Because I just started my job 3 weeks ago I won't be able to take much time off at all. Luckily I work in an office and I'm hoping ill be able to be back at work by the next Monday. -

Thanks for letting me know your feelings, like you I'm a nurse and have been considering backing out. Although, I know that I really need this surgery. I'm staying positive, right now I'm doing my 6 mth supervised diet but trying not too lose too much weight so far I've lost 10 lbs and gained 3 back. I have a window of 12 lbs or my insurance want pay so trying to lose 2lbs a mth. The Protein shakes have worked very well and not as hungry. Since I've lost 10lbs in one week with the Protein shakes, I'm thinking I will do really well with the lapband. Good luck to you on your weight loss journey. Thanks again. -

Question: Norovirus after surgery
QuilterGal posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last week I had a bought of the norovirus. If this happens after surgery, does your body react the same way? Do you throw up? Given that your stomach is now so small, would it pass more quickly into the intestines? -
Good News & Many Questions
favoredone replied to D1NOnlySexyLady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything varies from surgeon to surgeon.. But I was on a 7 day liquid diet prior to surgery...Most recommend chewable or liquid vits to start...i did chewables until I was 10 weeks out and then started on gummies... I did a liquid Vit D because it was very low....I'm not sure about ceasing your meds... your surgeon will tell you all of that... I had to get my IUD (Mirena) removed... hopefully I can get it replaced next week!!! Congrats and I so happy for you!!! -
Pre-Op Diet - Toughest thing I ever had to do
RD86 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm currently on my pre-op diet which is a 1000 calorie a day mostly liquid diet. I am allowed to have shakes (Muscle Milk Lite), which is absolutely atrocious because of the after taste. I was convinced it was not bad and I bought $150 worth of it to last me the 2 weeks. Also I am allowed to have 2cups of vegetables a day which is my splurge of a iceberg lettuce for dinner. It's day 2 and I'm down from 373lbs to 363lbs, 10 pounds in 2 days, I don't know if it's bad to lose that much weight or is it normal. It's very sad but I can't wait for my surgery and I can't wait till I'm able to eat some scrambled eggs when I get eat soft food.... -
Pre-Op Diet - Toughest thing I ever had to do
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to RD86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i felt the exact same way on my pre op.....i was only allowed liquids...2 1/2 weeks on pre and 2 weeks post op....what i learned was the difference between head hunger vs me being really hungry.....i also learned i was way stronger mentally then i thought i was.....sure i b*tched and complained but i woman'd up thanks to my ole man who told me to do that on my pre op and got on with it......because if you can do this.....you can do and be successful with having any WLS...i believe that......and i believe in you.. -
After surgery care question
Roseib replied to iowagirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm single too and had a friend stay with me 2-1/2 days. She left after lunch the third day. I was feeling pretty good at that point. Frankly I would have preferred her leaving the next day but didn't say so because she missed her husband and obviously wanted to go home. I do not advise you to go it alone the first few days. I too have a cat and was able to bend over and feed him pretty painfree by day three. -
i’m 4 weeks post surgery. i’m still on my purée diet. tonight i added a little sauce (1/8tsp) and about a half hour later threw it all back up. is this what it’s going to be like every time o try anew stuff?? ugh

I never had any issues with ovarian cysts but ended up with severe pain in my left ovary a week after my bypass. Turned out I had a cancerous ovarian tumor. Probably wouldn't have known about it for a long time if the bypass surgery hadn't irritated it. Definitely get it checked out. Better safe than sorry!

What type of questions to expect during psych evaluation?
mi75 replied to SillyMomo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
mine was very simple and i was pretty comfortable with it. my psych eval was a 2-visit deal. the first day i went she asked me about my medical history, my family history, if i had anxiety, depression, etc. also discussed medications, exercise regimen (NONE), support system. she gave me three or four little 'inventories' to fill out and bring back the next day. the inventories were a bulimia/anorexia type survey, an eating survey, and some sort of 27 question survey about the anxiety i had in certain scenarios, sleeping, etc. all very simple. i went back for my 2nd appt she looked it all over, asked me a few of the same questions from the first appt, and said i was approved and she would send a letter to my surgeon. she was really nice and told me that i seemed pretty 'normal' and that this is the best thing i could ever do for myself. -
Caffiene/alcohol questions
weho replied to lessofme2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I quit both a week before my surgery as I only had to do a one week pre op diet. But if you are a big caffeine drinker you might want to start weaning yourself a little sooner; just my opinion. Good luck to you! -
I'm 7 weeks post band. My appetite is reduced and I get some restriction but not a lot. For me the restriction is more important. I'm fine at controlling my portions when I'm at home but I eat out a lot mainly for work and that's when I find it difficult. I could easily eat a 3 course meal without any problem. My consultant is reluctant to tighten my band much more than it is. I've had 3 fills and am now at 5mls. He thinks it's good that I can eat out without difficulty but I fell I need that restriction so I feel there is a safety net and a reminder to stop eating! I weighed myself this morning and I had gained a pound, so as an emotional eater that sent me downward into negative thinking, followed by anxiety and naturally chaotic eating. This again is why I need the restriction. I almost need that form of a slap around the face if you know what I mean. I'd really like to hear thoughts from any other emotional eaters with a band and how they are coping with their journey.

Looking for some summer clothes in a size 18 (hopefully 16 by then!). Headed to Florida in January for a week, and living in upstate NY, it's kind of hard to find summer clothes when there's a foot of snow outside! Lol

Florida In January...need 16-18
jg9956 replied to jg9956's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
HaHa, I know all you Southern folks think it's going to be "cool" in January in Florida! I will be the silly one on the beach in shorts, I'm sure. But right now, I'm in the coldest spot in the country, a mere 0 degrees this morning! Try that for chilly! haha So even 50 degrees sounds tropical to me! My husband and I are going to Fort Lauderdale on a reward trip he is part of for his job. It's an all expense paid trip for a week. Woo hoo Trust me, I am a thrift store shopper for sure, I love a good deal. Problem here is, they just don't have lighter clothes out right now, so that's out of the question. I am not sure if we are going to be renting a car while we are down there, so I don't know how easily I will be able to get around. Hopefully there are some stores near where we are staying! Plus, I'm also on time schedule with his other employees, as I'm sure his boss has an itinerary for some of the days. But, if anyone knows of anything near Ft Lauderdale, I certainly welcome your suggestions! I'm always game for thrifty shopping no matter where I go! -
2wk or Long Pre-Op Diet
als33 replied to CTMommy22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used Optifast for my pre-op diet. It surprisingly doesn't taste too bad. I blended my shakes with ice so they were a little more satisfying. I only had to do it for two weeks, but the first 3 or 4 days were the worst and after that it got a lot better. I know of other people that went to my clinic with a higher BMI than me that had to do it for 3 or 4 weeks. I'm sure it wont be easy but you can do it! It is so worth it!
