Hi Debbie, Has Mr Hewin given you a post op diet to stick to. My collegue has just had it done and had to eat yogurt for a week (nothing else) I've been reading up on all sorts of pre op diets (low fat, low sugar, low carb, high Protein, shakes, Soups etc) and wondered what he suggested. I have my docs appointment tomorrow so he can refer me as my blood tests were clear. How long does it usually take from consultation to operation? I'd love it done in the spring holidays as I'm a teacher. I can't wait to have it done but there's still a chance he could say no :-( Gill :-)

Sleeved 1 month and 4 days ago seeking buddy
Get ER done replied to frglvr29's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would love also to have a support person. I live in Tennessee. Sleeved 2/3/15. And have lost 62 pounds so far. Have had more problems than I anticipated. Have had 3separate episodes of gout and been hospitalized once for dehydration. I struggle to get all the protein and liquids in. I am still waiting on that "I feel great" day -
frustrated and need advice
GotItDoneInHarlem replied to acampbell1318's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your NUT and express how you are feeling. Are you on full liquids or Protein shakes ONLY? If full liquids you'll most likely be able to do fat free yogurt and there are other protein options, like Isopure drinks, that are protein but different enough to get you through it. Again, call your NUT. -

The protein shakes made me nauseous so I tried the Carnation Instant Breakfast mixed with Mootopia (a high protein low sugar milk sold at Texas HEB stores). It tastes great and worked well for me. -

I am a bit stoned on protein shakes and liquids Vicodin/Tylenol. Is this a separate app or part of BP? Can someone just tell me? If I google, I know I will get caught up watching kitty videos and I am able to get on treadmill beginning Monday. -
I started the protein shakes again this week. 1 for breakfast and 1 for lunch ( takes all day to drink both [emoji3]). I have meat and veggies for dinner. Stop eating after 8pm and my energy level is much better. I got away for the reason I did the surgery in the first place. I will continue for a month and then come up with a plan to stay on track. Thanks for all the help! Sent from my LG-TP260 using BariatricPal mobile app

Protein Suggestion!
Gossamer replied to sbagby1960's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I haven't tried this, perhaps try diluting the premier protein shake with some fairlife fat free milk? That may take some of the sweetness out of it for you..... And give a boost to the protein numbers to boot. Just a thought but might be worth a try, best of luck with this! -
I am allowed the following portion at each meal: 3 oz Protein, 1/2 c veggie and 1/4 starch For me i know I need a fill if: my portion of food at each meal does not hold me for 4-5 hours I find myself looking for food... or wanting to snack I am not satisfied with my portion of food and want more
-
If you are hungry try to choose high protein foods, they will keep you fuller longer. Hang in there...this will pass after you start getting fills. (((Hugs)))

11 days out- 32 oz protein shake takes 30 minutes to drink
mi75 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i feel fabulous and really feel like i'm right on track. i am incredibly thankful that my GI issues are minor and i haven't had anything more than a few burps here and there. i feel blessed that SO FAR, my intake of my Protein shakes is easy and goes pretty fast too. so far no problems getting my fluids or protein, doing one of these 32 oz shakes in the AM and one in the PM and this meets my protein requirements. i don't know if 30 minutes is good, bad, fast, slow, etc for having my shakes and i'm not 'gulping' huge amounts, just drinking comfortable amounts. how is everyone else doing? anyone else around 11 days out? -

Business trip/meeting 8 weeks post op
Rogofulm replied to Vsg_lma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi @@Vsg_lma, Restaurant eating in the US is easy. In Paris it might be a little trickier, but I don't think they eat as heavily as we do, so that might help. Pack enough Protein shakes to have at least on per day on the trip. That protein will help you make it through. To repeat, focus on protein, protein, protein. That's where you'll get your energy now, instead of carbs. Chew, chew, chew. (You don't want to have to excuse yourself to go throw up during a business meal.) Keep up with your 64+ oz of fluids. They'll help keep you feeling satisfied between meals so you don't go crazy at mealtimes, and they'll keep your "insides" working effectively. Okay, now onto restaurant eating... First of all, if anyone asks why you're not having wine, just say "I'm trying to watch what I eat and drink, even in Paris," and leave it there. Hopefully, in a business setting no one will ask follow-up questions. They'll quickly stop noticing that you're doing anything different and it will become your "norm". Don't eat the bread! That's going to be the hardest choice you'll have to make! Just have Water. And since we're not allowed to drink for 30-45 minutes before or after eating (or during), just let it sit there (except for the occasional tiny sip to clear your mouth or help get a bite down). Skip the appetizer since you won't have room for it anyway. If the table orders group appetizers, you can have a bite or two of anything that's protein (muscles, clams, chicken, meats), but not starch or sugar. Order a protein-based meal, and don't worry about sauces that come on it. They're not our problem, carbs are. So try to order dishes with sauces that are unlikely to have a lot of flour. (Happy Secret: Fat doesn't really matter, so butter and oil in sauces are okay.) If your meal comes with a vegetable and a starch, ask to replace the starch with a second vegetable. Don't have dessert. You should already be full, anyway. If you drink coffee or tea, bring your own sweeteners (in case they don't have them) so you don't have to use sugar. Bottom line: Don't worry too much about fat or calories, just stay away from starches and sugars. Hopefully the freedom to enjoy the former, will make up for the difficulty of avoiding the latter. Enjoy feeling virtuous in your choices, and use that as additional motivation! How great will you feel if you go on a trip to Paris and come back the same weight or even less?!!! If you mess up at a meal, don't say "Aw, screw it," for the rest of the trip. Get back on your program immediately -- that means the very next time you eat. That way you can limit the damage. Our lives don't revolve around food anymore. So the extra energy you will feel from not being bogged down digesting carbs/sugar will help you enjoy the many other wonderful aspects of Paris. Hope that helps..... and HAVE FUN!!! -
I made a low carb/high Protein personal pizza tonight using Flatout Light Original Flat Bread and it was so good I had to share! This is definitely a new favorite. I used; 1/4 cup of Ragu Homemade Style pizza sauce 1/4 cup of crumbled Feta cheese 17 pieces of Hormel Turkey Pepperoni 2 tbsp chopped onion 42g fresh sliced white mushrooms 1/4c of diced red and orange peppers 4 low fat Mozzarella slices Serving size~ whole pizza! *If you can eat it all. It's not very big but even with an empty band I wasn't able to finish the last couple bites.* Calories~ 530 Carbs~ 26 grams Fat~ 28 grams Protein~ 50 grams(!) Enjoy! ETA; This was my first non-mushy meal after surgery. =)

I had my surgery 6 months ago and I have lost 86 pounds so far. I am excited about this but I have also been at the 86 pound weight loss for about a month. I know that doesn't seem like a long time but when you get used to seeing it come off at about 3-5 pounds a week and then nothing for a month...well, its discouraging. I have found that when I go back on liquids for a few days it starts to come off again but I am tired of the same old Unjury protein powder:confused_smile:. Anyone out there have any suggestions? I tried the Muscle Milk and I think it made me gain weight:sad:.

@@OKCPirate YESSSSS!!!!!! I'm so happy to see someone else does this...lol. Since I've been back on regular food, every couple of days, I cut up some chicken and put in on skewers, grill it with some seasoning and then store it in the fridge so it's there. It has been the best thing to have around when you need a bite or if you don't have time to make a full meal. Really I think that's the best snack for me...lots of lean protein!! Also, I like taking fresh blueberries (not pre-frozen) and then I wash and place them in the freezer overnight. They are soft and slightly sweet and great little Snacks. I don't get the pre-frozen ones because I think they are coated with Water because they are like little ice cubes...unlike the fresh-frozen ones that are really easy to eat right out of the freezer. Others would be almonds, pecans, baby carrots, grapes, apple slices, or just raw veggies and guac or hummus....all really good snacks.

insurance changes new doctor fees!
1-4-Many replied to chelle622's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel your pain. I ended up paying about $3k out of pocket. My $1200 surgeon and $500 asst. surgeon costs went up to $1700 for the main surgeon and $750 for the asst. by the time they finalized me for surgery. It was major sticker shock but I found out about the increases the day I was given my pre-diet to start. This is their flat charge they charge regardless of what insurance pays them. Above and beyond. I came home and had to do some long hard thinking about going to Mexico and would have it not for the additional delay. I'd endured too many of them and decided that paying it and getting it over and done was the way to go. But if you are further out, I'd really consider the option. -
High Fiber diet/how to do it/advice please
LipstickLady replied to marypups's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Flax seeds and chia seeds have almost no carbs and are high in fiber and Protein. I sprinkle them on everything. They add no flavor, just a bit of a texture that makes no difference to me. My husband swears by wheat germ, so there's that. Avocado is a great source of fiber and is one of my favorite foods, too. The first three add no bulk to your diet, the last is a staple in mine. Another thing to remember is that protein like cheese is a binder so you have to be careful. I eat a LOT of cheese, so I try to also balance things out a bit with healthy oils like EVOO. Avocado is another great source of healthy fat. Makes things....uhm...slide easier. -

Found a pretty decent ready made protein drink....
slm2007 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been trying different premade protein drinks so I'm ready when surgery arrives and I have to rely on these. I went to Vitalady and ordered some samples and even some ready made "shakes." I am picky and wishing they tasted like a Wendy's chocolate frosty but have been unsuccessful. Today, I opened an OhYeah cookies and cream...success. I can drink this one......granted I have a cold but it tastes pretty good. I've tried Pure Protein in the bottle and pitched them. I'll buy more of this OhYeah brand. so far so good. -
I now want my band out - and The Hospital Group charge £5,000 for removal. I don't know if there is a cheaper option in the UK - does anyone know? Obesity solutions - they are connected with a hospital in Belgium with Dr Marc Focquet - say on their website that a removal is only 1500 euros (1200 pound). But I am wondering if the price is historic, or only available to people who were initially banded by them. Has anyone had any experience of Obesity Solutions/Marc Focquet/ Belgium Surgery Services? I am going to their Manchester clinic on Thurday for an unfill (£90 instead of the £125 that The Hospital Group charge) - and want to ask about the options for removal of the band entirely...

Doctor Recommends Sleeve
Liberated Sleeve replied to alovio's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do know that you do have the option to have Bypass after you have had the Sleeve if you are not satisfied. You haven't shut the door on that option for good.
