  1. Having my revision on 8/3 from sleeve to bypass due to hernia. Can I loose weight my doctor says it as fast as the first one but wondering how much on the average. Also, are there any major differences in the recovery? I was pain free in the first one and walking the first day

    I need a little advice

I've been helping lead the pre-op groups at my clinic for the last three years (well, until COVID hit, that is). I always tell them about the stalls (esp the three-week one, since that always freaks people out), the hair loss, and I show them the picture I've often posted of myself here on BP from before my plastic surgery (most of them are obsessed with worry about the idea of having excess skin - and it's easier to just show them a picture than explain that for most of us, it's pretty easy to hide in clothes if plastic surgery isn't an option. I think seeing that picture reassures them). Anyway, I have a whole list of other things I talk about, too (like how most of us deal with chronic constipation, and how vomiting is actually easier after surgery, and how important it is to track your food intake), but I know the hair loss, loose skin, and the stalls are the most important things I need to discuss (at least from me - there's a dietitian, health psychologist, an exercise person, and a PA on the team that co-lead the classes, too). So yes - I totally agree that clinics should address these things. They come up CONSTANTLY on the online forums I'm on, so I know most clinics and hospitals don't mention them, sadly...
  4. Well guys this is my monthly check in or check up. i hope I'm able to offer some inspiration to those who are yet to have surgery or still deciding. But I have got to say this roux en Y gastric bypass operation has saved my life!!! It's officially 9 months since I had my surgery here in Australia and it has been amazing, a breeze, no issues at all and lost weight consistently every month. I've been in maintenance now 3 months pretty much with my weight sitting on average 165lbs but I've also seen 163,164 and 165. i still weigh myself most days; it's a habit. i don't worry about logging my food but I do keep a mental note of my intake calories; I still use shakes most days as some days I'm not hungry but others day I am really hungry... I can eat mostly anything without any major issues and my weight has not changed at all which is great. So 9 months since surgery and 11 months since preop diet. Feeling amazing; looking great; starting to feel confident finally and my birthday coming very soon. Had to buy some more clothes once again even though my weight isn't changing I think my body composition is changing like overtime your skin may retract and I think mine is doing it naturally or via gravity either way it's Great. 159lbs lost at my lowest weight but as I said my weight can vary a few lbs from day to day. I'll be 36 very soon but I look and feel 26 and can't wait to start living life and finding a lovely lady. My journey is over but I still have to keep focused and make sure I monitor my weight for the long term. i just want to say it is possible to be successful. It is possible to lose ALL your excess weight and keep it off... Thank you. Photos attached Positive feedback appreciated.

    Body Lift Surgeon Recommendations?

My surgeon is Dr. Dana Goldberg in Jupiter, Florida. I believe her to be outstanding, articulate and professional. Her skills in removing ample skin with fluer de lis tummy tuck and breast lift were commendable especially, given my petite frame. The results have been phenomenal! She will be doing my brachioplasty this September. I recommend her wholeheartedly. I actually preferred working with a generalist and not necessarily a bariatric patient plastic surgeon. She possessed nuances I liked in moving away from that fat persona toward a slim and fit woman. Her on site surgery center and staff were excellent. I had no qualms, and now given the COVID environment + risk - She can enlist tighter control and protocol than in a hospital setting. I felt safer and more comfortable at home recovering the day of surgery. However, highly ranked Jupiter Medical Center is close by should an emergency arise. She performs wonderful work on men and woman with varied needs. Dr. Goldberg is a nice balance of experience yet with a younger cutting edge (no pun intended) expertise. I interviewed five regional surgeons. I cannot speak to their fee structures here in contrast to other states or regions. Do keep us posted and many best wishes on your research and final decision! No doubt, you will be so pleased to shed the weighty extra skin. I'm so excited for you!

    First Post-Op Visit

My first post-op was at 6 weeks. I had lost 36 pounds since my before-surgery weight. The other patient who had her surgery two hours before mine had lost the same amount. You should be just eating liquid foods. Breads and such don't start until four months. Foods with skins, seeds, and so forth. You should still be on sugar-free food as well. I was eating around 500 calories a day those first few months. I lost 20 more lbs after 12 weeks then 10 more at 6 months. Carbs and sugars have made me slow down. Your surgery wasn't even two weeks ago. It's probably too early to think pounds yet. I didn't see my doctor until 6 weeks. I was bedridden those months I lost 36 lbs, too.

    OOTD

Love this outfit on you! Are you going in for a buttocks lift soon? Are you enjoying summer so much more this year without the extra skin weighing down? I am. What a resounding difference the removal has made. Right? ;]

    OOTD

Thanks, ms.sillykitty! Just scheduled my brachioplasty today for September 24th... So I don't have to limit myself to ¾ or long sleeves or have them lengthened as with this hot pink pouf sleeve. Here is the original sleeve design and intent. I asked surgeon to go below elbow (scars will skin tone in time) so not to have that bulge where inner arm seam stops. I'm excited. I believe the last plastics journey, hopefully.

Please help. I can’t eat healthy

Maybe start over with your post op diet from the day after you have surgery. Maybe that will give you a better idea of what exactly to avoid. Remove skins and seeds from fruits and vegetables to reduce gas, combine protein with veggies for a stir fry or salad. Maybe try smoothies as a way to get in more nutrients.

    Obsessing about Plastic Surgery!!

@ChubRub thank you I trusted Dr. Ampudia and only asked that i have upper pole fullness. The pictures don’t quite show how bad the excess belly skin was and my butt was really horrid. Now one cheek can fit in my hand 🤣 my thigh lift is a separate picture but I don’t think it can show how bad it really was before. So much excess wrinkled sagging skin that maybe someone in their 90s would have. My skin is very abnormally thin. All things considered, I think he did awesome. If I get up the guts I’ll post my own after pictures. I never kept my own before pictures. I'm still dealing with the open incision on the Left thigh lift T incision which is slowly healing, And a small one on the right side that’s been a bit problematic. But right now the incision at the coccyx area is being a literal pain in the butt. It seems to have gotten bigger. I’m trying to figure out how to better manage it. I’m using Bactigras and bandages but don’t know how to relieve pressure on it. I’m trying to get some routine but with my chronic illness and Covid going wild around here I haven’t gotten out and about much. It takes a lot of energy to take care of the little things. i meal plan to keep my calories within a certain range and get enough protein. My weight is up slightly but still below my goal of 106lbs. Though I weigh myself dressed with Faja and stockings 104.2 today. When I went for surgery I was at my lowest weight for better healing, my scale. at home 102.2, their scale when I arrived 101.2. I think lower BMI helped since I was having so many procedures. Hitting the snag I did thankfully it worked out. And I keep trying to hold in mind why I did it all as I work to get these problematic incisions healed. The rest are doing good. Just some fluid retention after removing the drain that wanted to ooze out of some spots in my thigh incisions. And one small open spot at the front. I think just my thin skin in existing medical conditions. But given those I’ll get there eventually. I wouldn’t Change my decision to have it, or change where I had it or my surgeon.
  11. I have a few suggestions for getting the muscle in the calves to thin out and some suggestions about loose skin. I lost all my weight at one point and had thick calves. I switched to non weight bearing exercises such as a exercise bike with no resistance and gradually the calves thinned out. Regarding loose skin. I swear by body brushing to lessen the loose skin. I went from 250 to 175 once and I used a natural boar bristle brush on my legs and thighs. It helped a lot. I also rubbed cocoa butter on my breasts and thighs daily. I was still loose but it helped. I'm due to have surgery in a few weeks and I have a new body brush and cocoa butter on hand. Good luck. Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Allergy?

You might want to look into allergy testing. I use to be a surgical scrub tech till one day after working almost 13yrs in the OR my skin started breaking out Ended up being tested and found out that I have an all to Thiurams, mercaptobenzothiazole, thioureas, and carbamates which are rubber accelerators known to cause sensitization. So it’s like a latex allergy in plain terms but not the rubber itself but the compounds. Issue is these can also be found in lots of beauty products lotions hair products so I have to read everything I buy very closely Just something to think about

  14. Hi everyone! This is my first post, but I have been lurking for a while. After months of new research and years and years of thinking I should go through with WLS, I *believe* I have finally made the decision to do it. My first appointment is Monday, (Gulp). Over the past couple weeks as this appointment has gotten closer, I have strapped myself into an emotional roller coaster... one day I am raring to go and impatient for it to be done already then the next day I am uncertain and have doubts about long term success. Today happens to be the latter. I am stressing about maintenance as I am a self proclaimed EXPERT Yo-Yo dieter. If there were an award for yo-yo dieting, I’d have a trophy case full of awards. I can loose weight, I just have never been able to maintain the loss and typically gain more back than what I lost. So....my question is for those of you out there in maintenance-land, do you find it easier (not the right word, maybe doable or achievable are better choices) to maintain with your WLS than you did prior to your surgery? Thanks in advance for any advice!
  15. Awesome results @mousecat88 I hope recovery is going good. Was that 450cc implants or is that total volume? That confused me. My implants are 200cc with 370cc total volume. I assumed the implants were 320cc but it meant total volume. I also had reduction forever ago though. My doctor advised on size. I chose upper pole fullness. Funny thing is a small part of me is like did I not get big enough 🤣 of course the doctor advised size based on my frame and thin skin ... but I digress. Congratulations on coming to the end of your journey 🧡

    Arm Lift Experiences?

I had an extended arm lift- scar from elbow to under middle of each breast to get the loose skin that was at the side boob area. That little bit of creepy wrinkly skin you have was my entire upper arm but twice as wrinkled re the depth of the skin. If I wore elbow length sleeves you could see loose, wrinkly skin hanging out. I had the arms of a 90 year old. If I had your arms I would have been on the fence. Have you done a lot of arm exercises to build up muscles to help with the lose skin? I would suggest getting a consult and maybe you could get the smaller incision that just goes in your arm pit. I don't know if that would "fix" it enough for you but then the incision would be hidden. My arms were so bad that if I wore a tank top and had my arms down at my side you could see across the room that my arms were terrible looking. Now at 5 months I have a thin red line if my arms are at my side but as soon as I lift my arm up the scar turns skin color/white. So in another 6 months it should be faded even when my arms are down. Now if I am 10 feet from the bathroom mirror and hold my arms up you can see a faint line. I would guess next summer if you are more than 5 feet away you wouldn't probably wouldn't even notice the scar.

    Keto

I hope it goes well for you. You will most likely loose a good deal of weight initially. However, my long term keto friends still struggle with weight maintenance over time, Sustainability and nutritional balance can be issues. I know I would never be able to handle the high fat load of a keto plan. I have been on a whole food plant based plan (WFPB) for about 6 months now and doing great, feeling great. Weight is well controlled and I am NEVER hungry. I eat 8-10 servings of nutritionally dense veggies/fruit every day, along with at least 3 servings of legumes/tofu/tempeh, 2 servings of whole grains, and a wide variety of nuts and seeds. I get at least 60 grams of protein daily, All my labs are great. My cholesterol dropped from 235 to 152 and LDL is actually BELOW normal range! Even 100+ pound weight loss did nothing for my cholesterol and high LDL. Interestingly, when looking at populations with the greatest longevity and members over 100 years old, all of them are plant based with very little animal protein. Hmmmmmm. The highest rates of osteoporosis and hip fracture are in populations that consume the most meat and dairy products. Hmmmmmm. Food for thought. Bottom line for me is that WFPB is healthy, sustainable, and affordable. I do triathlons, distance biking and hiking (aiming for a one day, rim-to-rim Grand Canyon hike and a 100 mile bike race next year), and I feel great with loads of energy! WFPB allows one to enjoy plenty of healthy carbs that are incredibly satisfying and which provide a lot of energy. I never feel deprived.

    After Surgery Things

A heating pad really helps when you have all that gas inside postop. So get one if you don't have one. Also, get a really good body lotion. Your skin will be really dry. I bought some essential oils and diffuser. Found eucalyptus, lemon grass and peppermint quite soothing. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. My dr had me make my own goal weight, based on how I feel in my skin at that weight.
  21. I just hit 4 weeks today. Increased my calories this week to 800. Still walking between 2-3 miles a day. Lost a little over 11lbs since surgery. That seems very slow, but surgeon said sometimes your body is still adjusting for a full 6 weeks and he’s seen other patients experience this and then it picks up or remains at a steady weight loss pace longer vs someone who loses a lot right away and the stalls for a long period of time or looses very very slowly after a few months. This is what I keep reminding myself. In the long run, I’m going to get there. As long as I don’t give up, and there are days and hours where I want to, and sometimes when I do - If I keep going and pick myself back up, I’ll get healthy.

    Open incision

#1-contact your doctor immediately. He may have treatment/wound-care recommendations for you. Here's my 2-cents (for what that's worth): Staples are metal. They will not dissolve. You may have had internal stitches that are designed to dissolve. They may have dissolved before the wound was completely healed. I'm no doctor, but I can sort of see the difference in the texture of your skin surrounding the wound leading me to suspect that the reaction you had to your wound care solution may have delayed normal healing of the incision. This is an open incisional wound, but it doesn't appear obviously infected to me. Now that the wound is 4 weeks old, they're not going to re-stitch this. So, you're going to have to heal "from the inside out." Keep it clean and follow your doctor's wound care instructions. Disclaimer: I am not a licensed medical doctor. Any statements above are not intended as medical diagnoses or advice. If you have questions/concerns about your condition, please contact your doctor..

    2020 No buy resolution

I love this! I am not buying anything either. When i was at my heaviest i bought a lot of beautiful clothes in much smaller sizes.. they have been sitting in my wardrobe for years, some of them. Now that i am finally on my way to fitting into them i am not buying a single thing until i know what actually suits me. All the clothes that fit me now i am getting rid of the second they are loose! I am saving a ton of money.. not buying so much food is also helping with that!
