  1. I was sleeved on april 30. I lost 10 lbs preop and another 20 in the first 2 weeks after surgery. I am in a stall that doesn't seem to want to break. I have been exercising (cardio) pretty consistently and I'm getting frustrated. I just started using "my fitness pal" to track my food and water. I am trying to get 60 g protein and 64 + oz of water. Calories seem to range between 600 and 900. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to eat more? Any help is appreciated.
  2. Hi. My name is Mary and I found you guys by typing in a problem I was having in a search engine. It must have been fate I have been watching and reading your stories for a couple days and you have all been quite helpful and inspirational. I started my journey at 301 pounds. I knew when I crossed that 300 line that was it for me. I was a insulin dependant diabetic with liver and thyroid problems and high cholesterol. It was time to change. I went to the seminar in February and started working out and seeing my surgeon and a few other docs regularly. I got down to 283. I started my liquid diet on July 20 and had my surgery on July 27. Life sure is different I am only 10 days out and down to 264. I am on puree and tolerating it well. I have not taken any insulin since the liquid diet started. I feel great I'm glad this forum is here so I can talk to/listen to people going through the same things as me. Thanks for being here!

    Work related

I took 2 weeks. Could have gone back after a week or so but glad I had 2 weeks (although my surgeon had said 1 week was enough). At 2 weeks, I was totally fine and went straight back to my 'after work' activities/hobbies at the same time (except exercise/gym). My surgeon said 10 days for driving I think. I don't have a very active job but i could have been more active than I was. As someone else said though, it's useful to have a 'liquid strategy' to make sure that you get enough fluid in when you first go back to work because you may need to eat more frequently than previously and can't drink for a bit before and after eating. So it needs planning. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Waiting game

First of all, 10/20 is my birthday! I will be having a great time having pre-op testing done that morning, my sleeve surgery is on Halloween! Secondly, are you going through insurance? Most have hoops to jump through, various appointments to make and keep, meetings to attend, etc. Mine was pretty easy but I still had to do a psych eval and various appointments and tests. If you are interested there are many people on YouTube documenting their weight loss surgery. You can search WLS, RNY, VSG or DS. People do a video diary of their journey, very informative and fun to watch. A LOT of them are from California, many northern Cali.

    So confused!...

During my physician supervised diet months I weighed myself daily, it helped me keep on track, but there were a lot of days where it'd be up, up, then back down. There were even a few days in there where I'd weigh 9-10 lbs more than I did the day before, usually it was just Water weight, and it'd be back down the next day. It's normal. =)
  8. Resale shops!! Yes...we have two of them in my area. I went there and got great deals on clothes for my kids. I never thought of that for me. Sometimes they even have things that were NEVER worn. For the last 10 years I've bought the same brand of jeans because I got sick of trying to buy them in "regular" stores and they never fit right. I held most of my weight in my back side. The jeans I have now, that are too big, are size 20-22. The one pair of scrubs I did finally buy were size L and I had been buying XL(which were a hair tight). That was about a month ago and I've lost 12 pounds since then. My scrubs tops are so big that I'm ready to sell or give them away. Most of them are XL. I'm going to make it a goal to find time to go shopping this weekend and buy a couple things. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm also going to check out those websites that you suggested. Thanks for the tips!

    Weight loss

We were warned in our pre-op class that gaining 10 pounds in the hospital was average. I only gained 6 pounds, but it did take a week to lose that.

It has been 10 days since surgery and my boyfriend is scared. He thinks that he is going to hurt something. I should be happy that he is so concerned LOL

  12. Hi everyone, Some of you may remember me and some may not, but I thought it would be a good time for an update on myself and my daughter. I also have a question regarding VSG and diabetes. I had VSG in November of 2010. My highest weight was 251. My lowest weight was 104 (too low for my 5'5" frame) and now I am holding steady between 108 - 112 (has been this low for over a year now). My regular doctor still thinks I am too thin, but my labs have been great so he isn't nagging me too much. My biggest problem other than what I address below is that I have a hard time finding clothes that are small enough (yeah, I know - stop complaining). My daughter had surgery the same day as I. Unfortunately, she developed a leak and was in the hospital for quite a long time. She has since lost over 200 pounds and feels terrific. She has new-found confidence (she is 23) and is much happier than she used to be. She has always been beautiful, but now the way she feels about herself makes her even more so. Now for my question. I went to my PCP on Friday and he is concerned because he said that my blood sugar could be going too low. I "had" type II diabetes but haven't been on any medication since the surgery. So, I got a new meter and have been checking my blood sugar levels. They have been about as perfect as they can get, with the exception of me gorging on a lot of candy last night (I'd like to say it was an experiment, but I love candy and eat too much of it, too often). About 1/2 hour to 1 hour after eating a lot of sugary candy, my blood glucose level was 179. Within another half hour, it came back down to 103. So technically, if I had waited until the 2-hour mark after eating, my glucose level would have been fine. I don't like the 179 though. I have been craving candy, especially in the evening. It is almost as if I am a junkie and have to have my fix. But, once I start eating it, I can't seem to stop until I brush my teeth before bed! I've always had a sweet tooth, but never this bad. My husband tells everyone that I have a "tootsie roll pop problem." Also, if I don't eat candy, I start losing weight again. (Yes, I've tried Protein or good carb Snacks.) Anyone with any insight on this issue? One theory I have thought about is either that my blood sugar is going low so I crave sweets to bring it back up or that my body goes after sweets because I am so thin and it is trying to get me to not lose anymore. Or, something I don't like to think about - I am tempting my diabetes to come back and need to kick the sugar habit asap! Oh, and one thing I neglected to say - my current weight also includes my extra skin, which my PCP figures is somewhere in the 10-12 pound range. So, I'm actually a lot thinner than the scales say. Thanks. Marilee Quote MultiQuote Edit Report

    TJ Max mothers day commercial

I know I'm a few days late replying to this topic , but I just wanted to share my store with you. My whole life I was over weight. At 13 I finally got my period, but I knew something wasn't right because I got it once and it didn't come back for months. when I finally went to the gyno I was referred to a reproductive endocrinologist to find out i had PCOS. I did a few years of hormones and birth control to try and control it but it made me feel out of my mind (basically a maniac 24/7). I had to have a few surgeries due to growths inside of my uterus. And still till this day I don't get my period for months at a time. But ultimately I was told if I didn't lose weight I wouldn't be able to conceive naturally. Which no girl at all wants to hear. So at 19 I finally decided to get the lap band done. my starting weight being 305 getting down to 220. this making my body magically work and me getting pregnant only 6 months after getting the surgery. It wasn't planned but I was so excited. Now fast forward 2 years . I'm at my heaviest I've ever been 315 and my PCOS is deff worse. So I decided to get the sleeve done in June. I'm getting married in a year and I want to have another baby a few months after that. If I were to try it now it wouldn't happen so I'm using that as my biggest motivation!!! Stay positive and don't give up!

    Diet History

Make it up as you think you remember. I can't remember last week never mind 10 years of failures. I do know that as I dieted I always gained more weight in the end than when I started.
  16. So I have a friend who has RNY in 2009. She started off at 410 pounds and at surgery day she was 398 pounds. 6 months later she was 185 pounds. She was telling me all about how she felt and how everything worked for her. She felt she was losing too fast and was scared and nervous. She also wasn't use to being able to feel her bones or other people feeling them either. She was losing more down to 174 lbs and felt she was losing too much, so she asked her doctor about gaining back up to 185 lbs. She has stayed within 10 lbs of this weight for the last 4 years, she has recently gone back down to 175 lbs after she had a tummy tuck. She hasn't had any complications besides 1 stuck moment because she ate taco salad too soon, she said she was 8 weeks out at that time. I'm so lucky to have someone who has already done this and been successful to be around to help. So with her story I'm even more encouraged and happy to move on with this journey.

  22. HAVE YOU GAINED WEIGHT AFTER YOUR SLEEVE. Hello everyone. I haven been on this forum for quite a while. I was sleeved back in June 2012. I had the lapband revision to sleeve. So far I've lost 45lbs give or take. My starting weight was 216. I lost my first 20 very quickly but from there on its was like pulling teeth.LOL. Anyhow a year to the day I had emergency gallbladder surgery and had to stop working out for a few month, gained a couple of pounds I was able to loose them again. For the past year and half I had endured Iron infusion for my low iron and hemoglobin. In December my OB/GYN decided I needed a total hysterectomy had the surgery done December 19 again had to stop working out and again gained roughly about 10 this lbs I haven't been able to loose it. I'm very worried and upset that I will be gaining more and more. I'm back working out and I'm very careful with what I eat and nothing scale won't move I know I haven't lost inches either because my clothes still fit tight. Everyone keeps telling it's because of the last surgery and that I look fine. It's sad because I don't like what I see in the mirror. And upsetting because I've put my body through so much and I don't want to be I vain.

    Sleep Study

I've had a few sleep studies over the years and will be honest and say that I've never been good with using it. DH and both have sleep apnea and he has been wearing his cpap religiously for the last 10 years. He feels well rested after a good nights sleep with his machine, me I feel worn out. Turns out there were notes entered into my profile years ago that had gone unnoticed that I might be narcoleptic. There really is a reason for preforming the study, just make sure yu follow up with it and use it if recommended.
  24. Lemme guess...your nut was like my nut....about 10% body fat. I mean don't former alcoholics lead the group at AA? Shouldn't people like us be NUTs for WLS patients? Those forever skinny people have no clue what it's like.
