I am considering a lap band procedure, I have 125 pounds to loose and I've had it on for 9 years, since the birth of my childern. My insurance doesn't cover it but I am still determined to have it done as all the other weight loss methods haven't worked for me. Any suggestions? I'm in the Dayton/Springfield Ohio area.

Hi, Heather,
I'm in the process of getting the band, don't know which one I want to get realize or lapband but I wanted to talk to someone who has had a baby with the band. I'm curious to know if it caused any complications, how long did it take you to lose the weight after birth and how much weight you gained, if any. I'm indecisive about the band or the sleeve. Please help.

Hi Dune! Thanks for your message:) yes some people on here are snippy and judgmental. I left this site for 3/4s of year because I was gaining weight at lbt always reminded me of the fact that I wasn't doing what I should be so I avoided it. Now that I'm back, the snippiness seems to have gotten worse. Oh well. Please feel free to send me a private message! I'd love to support you anyway I can
and thanks for the compliments on the kitties. They are like our children - can't imagine life without those little babies

I haven't been on in weeks. My insurance denied coverage and then denied the appeal. I am waiting for one more chance. It was denied based on me not going to a dr in 2008 and having my weight documented from that year. Even though I have been overweight my entire life and have had a BMI of over 40 for at least 15 years, it wasn't enough because I didn't have that one peice of documentation. I am bummed but am keeping my fingers crossed for my final appeal.

Hello Guys,
Just wanted to share some information with you. Every time I get a fill, I have to pay a $60 co-pay. Well, I've noticed that when I make a payment to the weight loss center, they would transfer that payment over to my account at the hospital that I had my surgery at. So, I called my insurance company and asked them about it and I was told that I had met all of my deductibles, co-insurance fees etc. and I really shouldn't have to pay the $60 when I visit the specialist for post-op because everything else is covered at 100%. Then she said that every doctor office is different because sometimes they will act as a hospital base facility and double up as a doctor's office. I called the weight loss center and asked why was I being charged when my insurance company is paying 100% and I also told her that I had met all of my deductibles and then some.

How are things going with your weight lost. I am really trying to get down at least 10 /15 pound before 12-15-2010. My husband is riding his motorcycle with his the other bikers to give out toys for tots around the surrouding area. I don't want to look good riding with my husband.

OMGEEES I know what you mean i am a slow loser too, and yes very frustrating... total weight loss since i started this journey i am only down 30 pounds.
..... i am back on the site because it gives me more motivation.... to be honest with you i have no restriction at all and i am kind of embarrassed to go and get a fill because i have not lost any weight since Aug. i keep telling myself that i have to do this on my own before i go get another fill.

Hi JanaBanana,
Have you lost any more weight with the band. Where is your body weight now after lapband. Do you regret getting it done?

Hi, lovely to hear from you - i'm down six pounds since surgery so i'm elated! finding it hard keeping to yogurts and soups but i'm not hungry. One more week on that then i'll go onto the mushy stuff. I didn't get ANY gas trapped - don't know if thats cos i got up 3 times in the night after op and walked up the corridor.
how's your weight loss been? i'm craving pasta and pizza.

I hope you feel better and hopefully the weight will start to come off soon. I was not given a fill on my last visit, because he thought I was doing fine without it. I trusted what he had to say, but a little wouldn't hurt at all. I know the weight is going to come off slowly so I just have to be patient. Check on you later.

Lol, my biggest tip then is tiny avatar pictures!
You're very kind, thank you. I'm really stoked with how well the band worked for me, I wish it helped everyone as much as it has me.
I run lots and do strength training. I think exercise is very important when you're talking about really getting to a normal weight.

Hey Trina!
Big pointers are walking, eating low carb, and drinking lots of water. No soda at all!!! That's really been the keys to my weight loss thus far. I walk at least 6 days a week. I push myself further and further each week. It's work but aren't I worth it? LOL
Keep in touch!

summer of 2008....and i think its just taking forever cause the weight loss center is so busy! it's a bit frustrating..but maybe i'm just being impatient? my bmi is 48..so that's not the problem..lol

Yeah, I did do the psych evaluation and just got my acceptance a month an half ago..But my consultation with the doctor (which was this last summer )is when I started to lose the weight..I guess I shouldn't have started so early..lol..cause it has been tough keeping it off.

14 lbs?! Way to go darling!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so glad to hear you're feeling better and you have lost some weight! You're just on a roll!
Yeah the weight loss slows down. I am sooo frustrated. I excercised and I was at least expecting to lose .5, but I lost nothing today. I am 1 lbs off from 30 and I just can't get there. haha
Other then that slight frustration--I am doing pretty good. I can't complain. I am enjoying my winter break. Plus it's 80 outside today. So I am looking forward to spending some time outside in my beautiful state of Texas haha!

Hi Sue, Only you can make the decision of which procedure is right for you. Read, read, read, from both sides of the isle, and discuss it with your Dr. I have friends who have done RNY, DS and Lapband. All have lost weight with extraordinary success. I just prefer the less invasive option.
