    Clothes during Weight Loss

I was a large advocate of yoga pants and t-shirts. Goodwill is difficult around here right now and I hit walmart in the very early mornings. My sizes have gone down fast since my Sept 1 surgery. I had my old clothes from some years ago but even those are baggy now too. I literally live now in the same pair of pj pants I bought in 3 sizes from walmart when on clearance. Hubby and I have lot of matching t-shirts costing like $5, so I just bought lower sizes. Some things are stretchy. I have gone down since the surgery from a size 24 to an 18 and large in womens tees or a medium in men's tees. The goodwill now gets literal truck loads of bags from me-some clothes I sadly pack away (not many though). I did have a special Ren outfit made for my husband and I with our tenth anniversary vow renewal and anticipated being smaller sizes. However, we had to cancel for covid and I lost faster then I projected. My dress was specially made in replica style to match hubby's outfit. I wore it to try on last month and it was already too big. There are laces in the back but my already tiny boobs are literally non-existent and adjustments are needed even with the tightest setting. I've gotten hold of a good friend and seamstress I know from the faires and offered to pay whatever is needed to redo it for my final size. She thought it can be some work but it's worth it to me. I can't try it on now or get it down-sized until i get close to goal though and I was really excited to get that beautiful baby on! :-). A winter coat was probably top priority. I start a new job just after Thanksgiving but we're getting pretty tight. My husband already works in the factory I'll be starting in and my son is a security guard. I didn't want to really spend on needless things for this weight loss with the holidays and my daughter now just having a baby- we sent quite a bit to her and her husband to help them out as she works in a restaurant but was laid off and her husband had hours cut. My husband opened a credit card at a local women's clothing store for me; insisting I need new clothes and a really good winter coat so we went together and I got that with one new pair of jeans and shirt. I was excited to see the size 18 in jeans-never thought I would see that so soon [or again] and I did get some underwear, a new bra (b now bummer) with one corset style help for the sagging skin (not so bad-some is my age and some the rapid weight loss but I expected worse). Enjoy the sizes going down! I feel like a new person that still is strange to me and I now love wearing my clothes. Don't get too many at once for each size-I live in a winter area where we practically live in our pjs and sweats year round; that totally helps. If you can get away with it or whatever you can-do it! Then maybe get a special outfit for inspiration or reward on a milestone.

I love a pair of poo pants or drop crotch pants as they’re more commonly known. Need a better top though as this one’s a bit loose around the bottom. Had a few lumps & bumps removed from my head, face & neck yesterday (9 things in total) and got white fluff from the cotton blanket they put on me all over the pants - sigh. Put my clothes brush to good use this morning. Oh, just realised you can see my old lady crepey skin arms in this pxt - another sigh.

    rate of weight loss

Gradycat had it spot on; everyone really has a different weight loss and at different times. My first two weeks I was still gaining weight after having gained over 10 lbs from the surgery because of complications and some serious swelling. My first Dr appt, the scale didn't show so much but honestly, I was just so happy by the fourth week to have lost the amazing pregnant stomach and lbs gained that it was a win. I'm 50 and have lost a significant amount since the surgery but it also combined a pre-surgery weight loss of 36 lbs on the program. I didn't exercise for 6 or 7 weeks because of my complications and incisions still re-opening but I did notice I lose weight differently then I ever did before. When I went to see my Dr, they don't go so much by the lbs lost as much as the fat lost and the actual bmi. I'm finding I wear at least a size smaller then I did for my weight previously on diets and my shape is much different then ever before; it could be the age but the Dr did say that the loss will be different in general. I'm 11 weeks now and have lost a total of 86 lbs; almost 50 since the surgery. However, the one thing I've noticed is that my daughter and I are now sharing clothes and she's just under 170 while I'm 40 lbs heavier. I'm actually wearing about a size 16/18 and an 18 in jeans even though I'm still a few lbs off from onederland. My surgeon said that also is normal. We had a sort of 'argument' about my goal weight as they said my bone loss would be significant due to my age and that my size would not be the same. They capped it at 160 at the minimum goal weight while I wanted lower but now I see they were right. Things that never shrunk before; particularly at 200 lbs, are shrinking and I am much healthier. In the end that's what the goal has to be. You are still very close to your surgery; you have to give it time. Two lbs a week is ideal and a good weight loss rate. I am now at around 1 lb a week and really ok with that. Some weeks are even less and I'm ok with that too. When you start feeling better, you will notice a big change in your health and quality of life. Just focus on that and knowing you're going down at the rate your body needs. Sometimes, it's better to be pretty steady and slower for skin control, etc. Exercise will catch up in around 3 weeks to a month for the loss and firmness showing but make sure you stay with your Dr and moderate that so you can continue to lose. I made the mistake previously of exercising too much and lost quick at first then nothing. My trainer said it needs to be gradual for the metabolism to continue to respond. Congrats on your weight loss that you're having-you are really doing great. Hope what I wrote in detail can help out for now.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

I hear ya! I also am only 65 LB total loss. I feel like I’m loosing so much slower then every one else. I did get off my BP med last month but I was only on a half pill a day. I did have blood work done only because I have been having really bad Charlie horses I wake up every morning at 4:45 am with then it’s crazy but all my levels are good so who knows why I’m getting them. I also am loosing my hair like crazy now. I have to unclog the drain catcher after every shower. I feel like at this rate I will be bold by Christmas. My hair was thin to begin with. I envy everyone who is like oh I lost 10 lbs this week because I hardly loose anything and have more stall weeks then anything. I fear that my weight is not going to come all the way off and I will have gone through all of this for nothing and be totally disappointed because everyone else seems to post that they lost like 100lb by six months. And after six months it’s supposed to be harder to loose. I don’t know. My doctor has given me weight ranges I should be at every visit and I have not made one . So I am right there with you. Not all of us are feeling like we are doing great. But we are all in this for better or worse till the end. Just know you are not alone!

    AHCCCS (Medicaid) in Arizona?

I have the same insurance. I was looking to see what ahcccs covered as I have lots of stuff going on and I came across this forum. How did you start your journey? I am quite a bit overweight and could loose 180 to 200lbs. Im a little scared as I've heard some horror stories about weight loss surgery but im also at my witts end with my weight. Im sure much if my pain would go away with weight loss.

    Hairless after surgery

I didn’t notice but then again, I shaved my head at month 3 post op VSG. I did however notice lots of new prickly hairs the month after I had my revision (9months post VSG). It didn’t bother me too much just felt weird growing back in. I do take hair skin and nail gummies most days and my hair 8 months from shaving is now between ear and shoulder length and my hair had always grown slow before surgery.

Oh gracious! I missed a couple of days & I came back to lots of beauty. greentealael you look gorgeous. That dress is fabulous on you. I call bell sleeves ‘so sorry I can’t help with the washing up’ sleeves. Tee hee. Jake, I bet you were the centre of attention at your reunion. You look so hot ( & so does your girlfriend). I love your jacket Wishmesmaller beautiful colour too. And congrats on your size 10 jeans. Woo hoo! You had me at wine & cocktails too bayougirlmrss. Sophie, your soft pink tree is beautiful. Love your roses too. I think the pants are a bit loose because they are a stretch fabric & have given a bit. I’m hoping they’ll return to their true size when washed. Fingers crossed. I don’t think I’ve seen size 4 (US0) clothing in Aust so I hope I don’t need to drop down to that size. I have a dress & a pair of pants I’m going to have taken in. Straight seams so they should be simple jobs. The dress will have to have the side zip removed but the neckline is big enough to go on without needing too unzip. A few of the pieces I bought last summer are too big but they seem to be the easiest to alter. Sigh. Mmmm. Looks like I have to lock up my Witchery tops otherwise we’ll start seeing pxts of Sophie & ms.sss in my blouses. I like Witchery too daisyJayne. They’re the best for pretty tops & blouses that are just that bit different & they go down to size 6 & xxs. Woo hoo.
  9. I have heard alot of people say they have experienced hairloss like 4 months in. I am scheduled for a Biatric sleeve dec 8th, what is some of your experiences, that is what I'm worried about is loosing my hair Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. I was always very active ........ until my joints gave out. I have arthritis in both hips, my back, and one knee, since I've already had a knee replacement. Don't wait until your joints are ruined. You never get them back, and although a replacement is great, it is never like your own joint. I was overweight/obese for 50 years. I only wish I had not waited so long to have surgery. I have my active life back now, and have resolved all my co-morbidities, however I can't reverse the cartilage loss and damage to my joints. Obesity will catch you, sooner or later. I went a long time before I started having the creeping BP, lipids, and borderline glucose. That's called Metabolic Syndrome and sooner or later it will find you. That then develops into diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and a bunch of prescription medications. Sleep apnea is another big one. I didn't even know I had it until I had a sleep study and found that my apnea was actually very severe. I was on a cpap machine for a year (wonderful thing, that machine - really!) until I lost the weight and now I don't need it at all. Get the weight off now! If you are ready to make the dietary and lifestyle changes, do it while you are still young and healthy. You will also have less loose skin if you have it done sooner than later.
  11. Hey everyone. So I have a question for the ladies. I am about 15 pounds away from my goal weight. I have lost 120 pounds since February and I definitely have a lot of loose skin. I wear skirts and dresses most of the time. Does anyone have any suggestions on a type of girdle that helps control a saggy butt? I will confess that I have been very cheap with all of my underclothes during this weight loss because I hate to spend a lot of money on something that I will only use for a short time but I’m starting to be really uncomfortable in the ones that I have bought with them riding up and getting into places they shouldn’t be and I’m looking for some suggestions from people who understand the struggle. also, Bras? I have went from a size 38D to a 34B and what I do have is basically loose skin. So I’m finding that every time I bend over, stuff starts falling out if you catch what I’m saying. I do plan on having some plastics done to help with all of this but I want to get to my goal and be at a stable weight before I do all of that but in the meantime, I need help!

    Oh, Just Another Plastics Story

Update! Not much has changed so just a quick pic, nearly 11 months post MMO Actually one thing is that I unintentionally tanned deeply during the summer months so ALL of my Incisions darkened, even my old lap scars. c'est la vie. I'm a Fitzpatrick IV/V skin type so par for the course It doesn't bother me & I'm not worried about it because they're well hidden underneath underwear but I will need to address it at some point either through scar revision or some other modality Plastics totally changed my silhouette so no big deal

I haven't felt like using nice clothes because... bleh nowhere to go. But I couldn't resist buying this sweater dress because of the bell sleeves (and hem- not shown) This dress is an XL which is a little too loose in the bust , upper waist & arms perfect everywhere else!

I only lost 65 pounds (so far) but my skin didn't get loose and floppy.

    Loose skin

Plastic surgery is a total game changer when it comes to fixing very loose skin but you may not need it. Try to focus on the positive changes you'll experience from WLS and cross that bridge when you get there.

Lol yes I’m sure it’s a popular question but I would definitely take the loose skin over being obese

    Bye Bye!!

I'm getting close to packing things up and shipping them off! I put on a skirt that was too tight last year and it was a bit too loose! Woo hoo! So probably won't be wearing that one any more! I definitely am getting rid of my size 18 jeans...even 16s are getting a bit loose on me!

    On the Fence

I was about your size same before Sleeve surgery and I've lost 60 lbs and have NO EXCESS SKIN. Now naturally if I'd have gone on to lose 100 lbs I might have experienced that, but even at my minimal 60 lb loss I am much healthier, my blood pressure and blood sugar are GREAT and I am in smaller clothes and I am happy.

Weight Loss Stalls almost 4 weeks post op

Yes I certainly have saw other success and I guess I should look at them differently.. My clothes are loose, I just feel lighter, but I guess it's a discouragement when that doesn't reflect on the scale.. But I will push through it, I will not regress, just hoping this stall breaks soon!

    Loose skin

There's pretty much no avoiding loose skin when you lose a massive amount of weight (especially if you lose it quickly). It varies from one person to the next depending on a lot of factors, but you just have to take it into account with the pros and cons of surgery. To most people, loose skin is far better than the alternative of keeping the excess fat. I've lost 130 pounds, and although I still have a ways to go, I have some loose skin, and I'm grateful for it because it's an amazing improvement from where I started. I don't look as good as someone my size who has never been bigger than this, but I look a heck of a lot better than I did at 341 pounds. Loose skin doesn't really show under the right clothing, so for the most part, people can't even tell if you have it. If it bothers you, plastic surgery is an option, but insurance doesn't typically cover it, so it's very expensive, and from what I hear, very painful.

    Loose skin

that's a common concern of newbies, but I think the majority of us who are several years out now view it as a minor issue in the grand scheme of things. I think most of us would take the loose skin ANY DAY over being morbidly obese again. Plus, it's easy enough for most of us to hide. And if it really bothers you, there's always plastic surgery...

    Loose skin

Loose skin is pretty much a given with drastic weight loss for most. Like what @AZhiker said, it may not bother you either immediately or eventually. On the other hand (a la @ChubRub) IF it is in your means to do so, then getting the plastic surgery is a total game changer, in my opinion. I am thoroughly satisfied with my plastics-provided flat tummy, skinny arms and gravity-defying boobs, lol. But I do still have a saggy butt and soft-looking inner thighs...but I can live with those just fine. Whatever your path, my guess is you will look AND feel better than you do now with the excess weight, loose skin or not. Good Luck!

    Loose skin

This has been addressed in a lot of threads. If you do a search, you will find more info than you ever wanted to know. After losing more than a hundred pounds at age 62, yes I had (and still have loose skin.) however, by 6 months post op and even more by a year post op, a lot of it sort of tightened up. My arms are not as floppy. Neither are my thighs, neck, for belly. My boobs never came back - still rocks in socks. I went from a 44DD to 34 A, and they hang down to my elbows. Many people really get obsessed with it and it is all they can see. I was in that camp, too, but other people didn't seem to notice as much as I did, and sooooo many people said I looked great and actually looked younger. I do not begrudge any one for getting plastic surgery after WLS, but I do recommend that you wait a year, for a couple of reasons. First, your skin will tighten up a bit on its own. Second, you are going to feel differently about it. Plastics was all I could think about for a while, and then my brain caught up with my body and I started feeling better about my NEW body and all it could do, sags and all. It doesn't matter at all to me now. A good bra and well fitted clothing do wonders. I will never wear a bikini and at my age, I am not trying to attract attention from anyone, and I have truly learned to be comfortable with what I have. You are going to have sags and loose skin. There is no getting around that. But it is not something to be terrified of! Be terrified of dying from the complications of morbid obesity! Having a new body that can do literally anything you want, with a few sags is way better than smooth skin and being obese. It's all a matter of perspective, but give yourself time to figure that out.

    Loose skin

Hey lovely ladies, my RNY date has been scheduled for December 11th and I’m actually not worried about things with the surgery but I am terrified of having loose skin. Has anyone that has had the surgery and dropped a lot of weight having an issue?
