Fill today.....and a slight gain
reverie replied to MaineJackie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I somehow gained 2lbs this last week as well, though I don't think it's a true gain as the scale dropped a pound this morning and last week I upped my calories and my exercise. Keep on pushing! 7lbs is definitely a great loss in a month. -
So i really want kettle corn and i found the nutritional info for Healthy Pop Kettle Corn 100 cal packs. So... Can someone explain the nutritional info to me because the box says : But on MynetDiary it says this: Sooo... How much can I eat for one serving and how many calories is that? And also when you eat it, will it make my sleeve expand? Because the doctor told me to stay away from processed carbs. Id love for this to be healthy! Its food score of 4 ( 5 being the best). Someone help me!!!

At 4 months out I am eating about 2-3 dense protein at a time. I try to get in about 900 calories a day and 80 proteins.

@@dlappjr, Nutritionally, you can speed muscle recovery and glycogen (fuel) replenishment if you take in some nutrients within 15 to 60 minutes after finishing your workout. The goal is 4 grams of carbs for every gram of Protein. If it’s just a snack, you can aim for about 10 grams of protein plus 40 grams of carbs. For a meal, you can go for about 80 grams of carbs and 20 grams of protein. You could have Peanut Butter and whole grain toast, or whole grain cereal/oatmeal with milk, or a shake with Protein powder and fruit, or a sweet potato and Greek yogurt… As for the actual workouts: if you’re super sore, it could mean you worked super hard. Soreness peaks at 48 hours (2 days) post workout, so if you’re aiming to work the same muscles two days later, you’re probably still going to be sore. What you could do is switch up the muscle groups and workouts, so you’re not hitting the same muscles as hard until they’ve recovered more. You could also do cardio on your off days to get the blood flowing (and burn calories). Another thought is that you could be overtraining. If you’re really that sore, maybe your body just isn’t used to those kinds of workouts yet. That would mean either be patient until your body gets used to them (like take the extra day of recovery if you need it), or scale back on the workouts until your body is ready to hit it that hard without needing so much recovery. Anyway, good for you for working so hard! You will see great results if you keep it up!

Wow, I'm also envious of everyone's weight loss pace. I'm down about 32 pounds since my surgery on 6/29, that's 11 weeks. I lost another 20 pounds pre-op. Weight loss averages 2 pounds/week probably at this point. My calorie intake is generally between 600 - 900, I exercise approx. 45 minutes 6 times/week (stationary bike or treadmill), plus I recently started yoga twice a week. My portions are actually smaller this week - still figuring out why I'm suddenly feeling more restriction. I start my day off with a protein hot cocoa, breakfast is usually protein only, with the very occasional 100-calorie Chobani Champions greek yogurt thown in for variety (higher in carbs, so it's not a regular treat). Lunch is 1/4 - 1/2 cup tuna and cottage cheese mix, or 1-2T peanut butter, or 2-3 oz. grilled salmon. Dinner is the protein part of whatever I'm serving my husband - I've been trying out the recipes on BariatricEating.com recently and they're FABULOUS. I was doing a late afternoon cheese snack, but I'm too stuffed this week. -

I was sleeved on June 6th and have lost 54 lbs so far. I eat anywhere from 800 to 1100 calories a day. But mostly stay in the 900s. I get in all my Protein and Water and eat about 65 carbs a day on average. (I can't do super low carb, it makes me feel like I'm on a diet...haha) My weight loss has slowed down, I too lose about a pound a week now, but that's ok with me as long as I lose. I want to avoid as much loose skin as possible...which brings me to my biggest fault...I'm not exercising as much as I should. Anybody got any advice for an old couch potato? Glad to hear from you all... Jewels of June Unite! -

I was sleeved June 7,2011. I am down almost 65 lbs with pre-op loss. I am logging my food on MyFitnessPal. I average about 1500 calories a day, with about 100 grams of crabs. The crabs are much easier going down than the dense Proteins. I had been exercising about 3 days a week until I hurt my back a couple of weeks ago – got to get back to the gym. The last couple of weeks I have been experiencing almost like a “dumping” type response when I eat chocolate or anything with really high sugar content. I didn’t have these reactions early on in my journey. Did any of you develop “dumping”or have you had it since day one? This is still the best thing I ever did for myself. The first couple of weeks are rough, but life is good. Now I am talking to me more than you, This is just a tool to control your intake of food, it still comes down to diet and exercise…sorry for all of us looking for the easy way out, it ain’t gonna happen! Goodlick to all the Jewels of June! If you haven’t been sleeved, stop messing around. Monday ain’t coming – JUST DO IT! -
cool! we are on then! i didnt walk thirty minutes today . Im working late and my job is standing and staring non stop. i move my arms a little. i plan to walk tomorrow though. Can you walk tomorrow for thirty minutes too? im going in the morning, i have more energy then, and i can shower after and feel fantastic. im taking my ipod. RE: energy.. are you getting enough Protein? i do a shake in the morning thats high in protien and relatively low in calories, gets me going. heres the basic recipie, can of course be altered: (put in blender and blend) a handful of pecans or walnuts a container of probiotic yogurt (any yogurt works) (cut in half if mixture is too much) a scoop of soy Protein powder (can get this at grocery or walmart) a half of a cup of 2percent milk (can cut this in half or substite Water if mixture is too much) a dose of metimucl or any Fiber laxitive Iron supplement (tablet) vit c tablet Multivitamin acidolpholis tablets (two) vit b dot two tablespoons flax oil (great for your hair, teeth and nails) any other supplements youd rather not swallow whole, i use collegen. and last, about a fistfull of frozen fruit (important no sugar added) i sometimes use blueberries (cause i live in maine) but strawberries are easy to find and keep in freezer. Blend until its all mixed up well. It should be no more than a pint of stuff, and drink it slow, i dont even do coffee or tea anymore in the mornings because it takes me all my "oh my god im awake" time to get it down. It lasts me until around one pm, then its time for lunch anyway. I like it because if you dont get in good meals for the rest of your day, your bases are already covered when your body needs it most, in the mornings to break your fast. it also helps keep me from grazing around. it is usually really thick and feels like im being very naughty when everything in it is just what your body needs at this point. let me know if you wind up trying it, and what you think.

protien drink question #5,145,285 LOL
Heft_Bandit replied to Sasha2013's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey Diva GIRL! In terms is quality of protien the #1 is Isopur. The power mix single serving has 50gm protien and little over 200 calories. They also now make a liquid drink that comes in a glass 20oz bottle. I think it's like 40gm protien. Now quality does not equal great taste. It's not horrible, but nothing to lust over. I only do the Isopure once a day. -
Insurance questions (regarding BMI/weight loss)
shellyq replied to ohclementine's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I was in the same exact situation. On the borderline of the BMI so that Cigna would pay surgey, was also required to do a three month supervised diet. During the three months supervised diet I actually gained ten pounds due to having foot surgery and being laid up for over a month and then trying to compensate by not having enough calories. Cigna required me to do an additional three months basically saying that if I couldn't stick to a doctor's diet for three months then I wasn't serious enough about losing weight to have surgery. During those extra three months I lost the ten pounds and an additional seven pounds putting me right at a BMI of 50. I would think that your surgeons office has seen plenty of these scenarios and can guide you on the right path. Personally, I would take the supervised diet seriously and try to lose a few pounds so the insurance company can see how important this is to you but also be careful to not go gung ho. Good luck and I'm hoping all goes well. -
Feeling VERY hungry :(
JillBengt replied to IWannaBeSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand what you mean by patience. When I diet, I really push myself. On the two week pre-op diet I lost 18 pounds because in addition to the 800 calories, I exercised alot. I have never had trouble losing weight...it is just putting it back on that I seem to excell at! Even though I am down 21 pounds now, I feel disappointed in myself that it isn't more. I know it is stupid but we are always our own worst enemies, right? So here is my thought on the lean muscle tissue. My husband, who is a doctor...albeit, a baby doc who doesn't know much on this subject, says as long as you get enough protein, the body will not attack the muscle tissue, it will go after the stored fat instead. It is when there is not enough protein in the body that you have to worry about losing the lean muscle. A low calorie diet with at least 70 grams of protein a day should ward off tissue damage. Of course, I have heard from this website that a diet rich in protein will actually decrease your chances of a speedy weight loss. What are your opinions on this? -

bambam31 replied to IWannaBeSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Intense exercise and a white hot metabolism! Me neither - makes no sense. The amount of protein needed is always a matter of dispute, but it is a requirement as far as I'm concerned. Not a fan of low calorie diets. Do indeed appreciate the insight of a well educated medical professional, and while this theory sounds good - in practicality it doesn't hold weight. (Oh look I made a funny!) You will encounter many people on LBT who are eating 800 calorie diets and not losing anything... If the body was going to maintain it's usual metabolism and get all of it's excess fuel from stored fat - these people would be losing double digit pounds every month - but they aren't. Nonetheless, protein is very important to sustain lean muscle tissue. Hmmm... I agree in part, disagree in part. I believe low calorie diets will promote a huge weight loss at the outset - that is until your body figures out what you're trying to do. Once the starvation response is invoked, the weight loss will trickle to a standstill. You will encounter these people every day on LBT trying to figure out why the weight loss stopped. Most just write it off as a plateau that will pass so long as they remain low-cal. I strongly disagree. But I wrote my thoughts on this ad nauseum on another thread so I'll just point to pages 3 and 4 of that. But remember... Everyone IS DIFFERENT. What works for me could be disastrous for you and vice-versa. You just have to sort out the information and apply it to your situation and experiences. Here's that thread... Pages 3 and 4 have my thoughts on this discussion. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f9/ice-cream-horror-85172/?highlight=ice+cream+horror Good luck and keep fighting the good fight! -

Thanks Nina, I love my band! LOL, I actually just a few minutes ago, commented about your weight loss in the "Liquid Calories" thread. You are doing great too! -
Also on the clear Protein issues-- New whey liquid Protein is like 4 oz of clear protein with 25 grams and it tastes like liquified Jello @ only 100 calories. www.fitnessfirstUSA.com has them! Keep your head up, you've been through a lot in the past week! Things will get better, and seeing that scale go down may help cheer you up. The surgery and the changing lifestyle I equated to a "divorce" from food and I cried a lot too. No one else understood it. But you're going through a lot, just give yourself some time to relax, and realize you don't have to stress out, take it one step at a time! :girl_hug: Kristin

Christinamo7 replied to bncbabe2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
at my doctors office when I am weighed there is a ticker that states how many calories you need to maintain that weight. If you are eating less calories than needed, and you move your body the weight will come off. some of us just seem to have more stubborn fat. Keep up your Protein and fluids and take one day at a time. -
Sometimes Reality Bites

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 Sometimes Reality Bites So, my husband is looking for part time work to supplement his Social Security. Probably Best Buy again. Its crazy that a 62 year old highly competent man can't get full time work--mostly because employers don't want to pay health care for an older worker. It feels like this is no longer the land of opportunity. So many workers being kept part-time to avoid paying health care. I wonder if all the companies outsourcing to other countries and paying as little as possible to workers in this country realize they've created an underclass of people who can't afford the products and services they're providing? So they cut even more creating a vicious cycle of increasing near-poverty. I'm so full of arthritis. Even with the weight loss the extra excercise keeps me in constant pain--especially at night when it wakes me up. Mostly its my hip waking me up. I think the steps at work are whats killing the hip. Walking doesn't seem to irritate it much, but add the stairs and its too much. I've adjusted my classroom to accommodate my arthritis. I sit mostly while teaching. I have a flat overhead I use with some materials (it lies only a half inch higher than the table) so I can use it sitting without having to raise my arm to write on it. My assistant does most of the paperwork which relieves me of enormous stress on my neck. But the school is not handicapped accessible and I do climb stairs a lot. I frequently need to speak to a teacher who might be two stories up or go fetch a class that's running late or that the teacher forgot to send. I wish I could work out more so that when I hit goal I won't have to stay at 1000-1200 calories to maintain but I don't think that's going to happen. Just ate some Cheetos, not a lot, but that tells you what kind of mood I'm in. Haven't had those in months. Not since before surgery. My job may not exist next year and the thought of finding another teaching job where I can adjust things to accommodate both my arthritis and my ADHD is quite overwhelming. It took me a number of years to get everything running so smoothly. I've lost jobs before but I wasn't 57. Oh well, the Lord will have to provide if I can't. He's always opened a door for me, but I see all kinds of believers struggling desperately because of the economy and a broken health care system. Kind of a downer, eh? I'm not sure I can "10-10-10" this. I'm not sure there's a decision to be made at this point. I really don't want to go back to school which I think I'd need to do to get another teaching job. I probably could do a pros and cons on that. To stay in teaching or not, to go back to school or not, to look at other careers and receive training or try to break into those, or not. Or I may just be buying trouble and the new vendor next year will hire me without making me go back to school or changing my program so it no longer fits me. For the next 10 minutes it doesn't impact me. In 10 months I'll know and I should have a back up plan in place. In 10 years I'll be retired and the amount of income I'll have depends on my choices now as well as a whole lot of things beyond my control--like the economy, my meager retirement fund, the decreasing value of my house, etc. I have to overcome this inertia that's paralyzing me, but my ADHD works against me. It needs the overwhelming pressure of an immediate crisis to focus on a problem and solve it. Sorry about that. Once in a while the "what ifs" start to overwhelm me. Life is never easy. But my band is working and I'm working it and the weight is dropping. Praise God. -

Today is two months! I've lost 26 lbs. since surgery, 49 total. I "think" this is good, but I am always fighting a lb or two. Is this normal? For five or six days I will have a lb or two and will go up and down. I'll do this for days, literally before I will keep it off. I am wondering if I am not getting enough calories (I get 450 - 650 per day). I know I am getting enough protein, 65 - 90 grams a day. Maybe I'm eating potatoes too often. I have baked potatoes or mashed several times a week, but when I say this, keep in mind, a 'serving' is a TB or maybe a TB and a half at the MOST. Little if any marg., and my sour cream is a a creation of my own. I buy an 8 oz container of FF and an 8 oz container of light and mix the two. I use this instead of marg. on the baked potato. I've eaten pasta twice, eating mosting meat sauce, a third of a cup and adding a fourth cup of penne pasta. I have added 1% milk occasionally so I can up my calories, is this bad??! I am not sure if I am doing anything wrong of if I'm ON TRACK. Is this a mind game I'm playing with myself?? Any opinions would be appreciated!!

So, we all know this is a big no-no, but I do like to have a drink during my meals. It's a hard habit to break, but more than that I find that if I don't, I can't eat enough to get in my requisite daily calories and protein. Anyone else in the same boat?
-
HI Glynda, Congrats on your surgery. Everyone is different, but after you're healed wine shouldn't be a problem. The only issue is that it is empty calories that can add up quickly. One 5oz glass of wine has about 120 calories, and I don't know about you but I don't drink a 5oz glass of wine, my wine glasses are at least double that! :-)

No weightloss in a week, gained 2 pds? WTH!!
Mrs. Bubba replied to Mariposa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I experienced the same thing and I agree with the idea that sometimes I wasn't eating enough. After I added more calories in a day I started losing again. It could have just been a coincidence, but who knows. I also can tell the differnce when I have too many carbs in a day. I lose more when I stick to mainly proteins.... I had a piece of wheat bread in a sandwich for supper last night and had a glass of juice earlier... This morning I had gained .2 of a pound.... So today I'll make sure to get mostly protein and that should be better tomorrow.... I also think everyone is different and you will stumble onto what is going to work for you... good luck.. Julie -
No weightloss in a week, gained 2 pds? WTH!!
Kat817 replied to Mariposa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mariposa, I think you possibly nailed it in your first post....when you referred to your migraines and the hormones. Fat cells horde estrogen, and when you lose weight quickly as you have up til now, that excess hormone gets dumped into your system---causing the hormone induced migraines, PLUS causing a multitude of PMS like issues---including bloat, and Water retention---which both result in weight gain. You might also notice mood swings, and libido changes, acne breakouts etc. Your body actually adjusts quickly and they will pass. I would not recommend going any lower in calories, and in fact, maybe instead of counting calories for a few days just concentrate on eating as healthy as you can...fresh nutrtious food, avoid the processed often high sodium foods---which will just make the water retention worse. Years ago I had hormone induced migraines, and they went away when I had a hysterectomy (had it for other reasons---not the migraines), never had another one until I got banded!!! Then I had a few during the first month following it, and they went away.....never to return I hope!!! Good Luck to you----I bet it eases up soon, and the weight loss continues! Kat -
Hi I'm 37 with 5 children, and married. My main reasons for having the surgery was a health scare. I decided not to tell anyone but a couple of very close friends and my immediate family. this was due to feeling like I would be judged for my actions. The week I started the pre op diet I told staff I was starting a healthy eatting diet, which was true, I stated I was cutting down my calories which was also true. I feel that I do not have to tell anyone my business. The choice is yours who you tell, don't feel forced to tell people if you really don't want to. I've lost 28 pounds since pre op diet and my surgery on the 23/1/13. Good luck with your journey :-)

The last conversation the nutritionist had with me went like this....."even if you add 1 Tbs of olive oil to veggies and toss with seasoning or add a snack to your daily calories, I want you to have 200-250 calories more per day" of course healthy calories. I do about 45-60 minutes of cardio 5X a week. Nothing crazy hard but I break a sweat and I can feel a difference in my muscles. To make it real simple, she wants me taking in a clear 900-1000 calories a day...not 1000 and then minus the exercise. I also work at a desk all day so, I don't count anything but my actual workout or if I do major household cleaning I will sometimes count that. I truly believe that I am responsible for screwing up my own metabolism through the yrs. The numbers that should make sense never do for me. BMR and all the others...

maybe you are drinking more calories than you know. Do you have juice? It is sort of impossible to gain on 800 a day.
