My name is Shelly Quintana and live in Ogden, UT. I am 44 years old and have pretty much been overweight my entire life. This is my second weigh loss surgery. I originally had gastric bypass when I was 19 and went from 350 pounds to 185 and then it slowly climbed back up over the years. Twenty five years ago there wasn't the support and knowledge to be as successful as there is today so I am optimistic that this time I will be a long term success. Forums like Bariatric Pal, where we can come together and share our struggles and successes is going to be huge in helping me stay on track.

My starting weight was 358 but had to lose 20 pounds over 90 days in order for the insurance to approve the surgery. I got the call on September 14th that I was approved and my duodenal switch surgery was scheduled for September 29th. The doctor finished my surgery at 9:00 pm on Monday and I was home by 5:00 on Tuesday evening. Within a week I was on soft foods and even trying ground beef and eggs with no issue. Almost scarey that there haven't been any complications or issues. The day of the surgery I weighed 334 and three weeks into it I have lost 21 pounds. I am nervous since I have been at a standstill for two days but rather than get discouraged I just activated my gym membership and ready to hit the gym.

My weight issues stem from growing up in an emotional, physical and sexual abusive relationship with my stepfather and then walked right into a 20 year marriage with an alcoholic. It's time to put the past and excuses behind and start really living.
