    resume BC to regulate periods

BC hasn't regulated my period since surgery. On my period now even though I'm on continuous bcp. I wasn't prepared for the hormone fluctuations post op. Just a heads up!
  2. Well SHOOT!! I typed all of my stuff and lost it!! I have heard people say that my WLS didn't work. I don't totally agree with this. But like was said it is the choices that we make. Now the Lap Band failing I have 1st hand in knowing about. As you see my hubby had his for 13 years. He lost 100#'s with it but never met his goal. Yes, he did eat around it but it also was damaged during a fill, more surgery. Then in 2013 he went in for a revision to a RNY. It had eroded into his liver. Failed surgery. Then he got abscesses. Was deathly sick for 9 months 3 of which he doesn't remember. His Surgeon dropped him in the middle of his treatment, told him to go to his PCP or the ER. But hubby was so desperate he went back to this Dr again. Then he told him that he was a PROBLEM CHILD and he wouldn't do the surgery. He referred him to Portland, Oregon OHSU one of the best Bariatric Centers. They said they would try to do the RNY but he needed to lose 25#'s and get his A1C down to a 7 or 8. Which doesn't sound to hard right. He couldn't do both, if his Blood Sugar was good his weight went up and the same for his weight down BS up. In the mean time we find out he has Kidney Cancer but there is nothing they can do until he loses 150#. So down to Mexico self paid surgery. When they get in there he couldn't do the Rny because his whole right side is solid scar tissue so he gets the SLEEVE. This was June 3, 2016 to this day he has lost 60#'s. So pardon me when I say it isn't always easy to get another WLS. It makes me so mad when I hear someone say well, I'll jus ge a revision if it doesn't work out. We don't always get what we want. Now I'm not saying he did everything he could to lose his weight but darn the problems his weight has caused us!!! So I guess I'm saying in some cases yes a revsion is in order but if it is just because THE WLS didn't work, then they do need to go thru more counseling to make sure that their mind is on what needs to be done!!

    Wls disqualified

One of the reasons I waited until after I did my 25 years in public health for full retirement benefits before having WLS. total BS to be excluded after taking a step that did nothing but improve our long term health. Probably that a national political movement to change these policies. We could begin by lobbing politicians who have had WLS...

    Drinking and eating

mu NUT did say to me that if necessary, due to dry mouth or something, you can take small sips with your food but try to avoid bc it washes it out of your stomach too leaving you hungry faster as well and can interfere with full absorption of nutrients...

SIPS / SADI-S LOOP DS SUPPORT

Thought it was time to chime in. 2 years out from SIps with Enoch in Cary NC. All good, diabetes gone, blood work perfect. Just saw him yesterday and we discussed what NC BC/BS is doing and it's not good. More hoops to jump thru, and yes....they consider sips to be experimental and are not covering it. Enoch has made some adjustments to the procedure. I wish you luck. It's the best thing I ever did and Enoch is awesome.
  6. I used broth and added unflavored Protein powder to it. I also got really fed up with all the artificial sweetened foods that were on the acceptable list. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

He wants to see me a lot. I went and saw him on his lunch break the other day. He's a good guy I will give him a chance. I just get so jealous and it sucks. What do you do when you get jealous? I deff don't want to be w a guy who is having sex with other women eww that's just gross. I also have had some dates go bad bc I was fat... not this guy tho he knows I'll be getting smaller n stuff he don't care. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I am 13 months post op. About 10 months post op i started having severe night sweats. I talked to my pcp bc it's bad. My surgical team told me I needed to see my pcp right away. So she automatically told me it was probably tuberculosis bc years ago I had a positive skin test, with a negative chest X-ray. I still chose to do the treatment to be safe, since I was going into the medical field and I have kids. Well the chest X-ray this time around was normal, some of my blood tests showed I was fighting an infection but she didn't know what. She test my hormone levels and everything was good, she told me then it couldn't be menopause bc I'm not old enough and my cycle is on time and normal. She wanted to run more tests. However she never ordered any other tests. I asked her over and over when they would be ordered and she said she would have her nurse do it. It never happened. So anyways today she told me "it's hot flashes, there is nothing I can do." So of course I feel like she's just saying that to get me to go away. But I'm still having the night sweats, I have to change my pjs 3 times a night and wash my sheets daily, I am still expecting the other symptoms as well extreme fatigue, severe headaches, no appetite at all, are some of them that started around the same time as the sweats. Her solution for no appetite was get a medical marijuana card. I was not at all happy with that response. Bc I felt like it would completely defeat the purpose of the surgery. I'm switching pcp but I am just wondering if anyone else expected these symptoms around 10 months to year post op? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What a joke

Your job not accommodating and letting you go after drs documentation soubds illegal and potential ADA lawsuit!! I'm sure your doctor is just concerned that you are in a good mental state to face major surgery and overwhelming change... Do you have a therapist or psychiatrist. If so, it might help if your therapist in particular speak with your GP I signed releases si my gp, surgeon and psych ppl cab talk. My surgeon, even though their psychologist cleared me wanted letters from my psychiatrist and therapist showing tgey supported the surgery and my mental health was stable bc I have bipolar l and PTSD. They had no problems with this and it cleared the air. I knew I was ready but they have to feel you are ready and when you breakdown, gethispitalizedhospitalized, have difficult dx,etc... they worry.. Loosing your job is a serious stressor too... and the grounds you lost it on sound wrong to me... Be upfront with your GP, tell him how you feel, tgat your meds are helping and allow him to talk to ur mental health docs... That can go a long ways Worse case scenario... your surgery gets delayed....

Would You Now Date Someone Over Weight?

I've never dated.. there is a guy that I believe likes me and he is very very overweight.... I've been fat most of my life and feel I've been rejected because if it... Now that I decided to have surgery, I feel like j wouldn't want want to date this guy unless I knew he wanted to be get healthy too bc I would worry that his eating would cause problems in my diet plus I would want someone to exercise with... However as a overall generalization as your friend o Put it, i dobt think that's true. Many people are attracted to overweight mates and beauty, Intelligence , life experience is more then skin deep... Most of Americans are overweight and most ppl are together, partnered, married or dating so I don't think ur friend is accurate at all

Day 5 post op - struggling

It does usually get better... experiment with liquid temps... You may need a different PPI bc I know with me, many years ago, I was put on prilosec and it made me more sensitive to the point that bell peppers caused burning! After my sleeve, surgeon put me on protonix and it's been awesome. The noisy stomach is also extremely common in the beginning. Hold tight

  17. A better way to say it is. I 3 weeks post op its probably not a good idea for lots of reasons such as empty calories etc. But, further in the future try a few and if u can handle it treat yourself sometimes with a few chips but be careful bc there is not a lot of nutritional value n chips…. Try other alternatives also… but not to be rude spoke for itself Sent from my SM-G928T using the BariatricPal App

Very good article on Protein Synthesis

GENEPRO is shit. It's marketing hype. Basically BCAA. The only people I know who use it are women on this forum who don't like the flavor of whey. You can't get 30 grams of Protein from 15 grams of powder. They'll say it is some chemical magic that allows it to absorb as though it is 30 grams or some such BS though. Then they'll say their blood work came perfect and yadda yadda yadda... Go talk to as many lifters as possible and see if any of them use that crap. Sent from my phone. Please forgive brevity and spelling.

    Slow Weight Loss

Advise needed. I am 8 weeks out from bypass. This second month I have lost 3 lbs total. It is so frustrating. I understand there are stalls, I have read up on them and get they are a true problem during the early weight loss stages... but this feels more then a stall. I feel like I am doing something wrong. I started working out a month ago, 3-4 times a week... hard hiit style training. I increased my calories to 900, I drink 60-80oz Water, 80 grams Protein. I try to do a low carb diet, between 30-50 grams a day. I track my food and weight most of the time so I know my macros and calories are pretty accurate. Here are things I know I am not doing right.... I do not eat slow. I eat slower then I used to, but not that slow. Dense food will get stuck if I am eating to quickly... and it takes a bit to move through. I am trying to slow down. I recognize I eat dinner faster, because I tend to be hungrier. I have incorporated a later afternoon snack to help combat this. I have a hard time not drinking while eating. I try to remember, but honestly mess it up about 30-40% of the time. This doesn't cause me to over eat. I pretty much portion out and plan my food for the day.. and stick to that. I'm working on this change. I've started setting a timer. I have been eating small amounts of unhealthy food. For example, we went to dinner the other night and I had half a slice of pizza, or I took a bite of my kids Halloween candy. I track all this in my food journal and I stay within my macros and calorie count for the day. Before surgery I would allow myself these "cheat meals". I believe that this helped throw off my metabolism. This type of eating has been proven to work for non Wls patients... but guess I don't know how it works now with the surgery. I lost about 100 lbs before surgery. My surgery weight was 243. I am curious if my weight loss is slower because my body was already in mass weight loss mode... and therefore didn't really shock my system? I was also in ketosis before surgery... I have slowly been coming out in the last month as I add back more grams of carbs. (I was at 15-20 grams... now at 30-50 depending on day). I am wondering if this is causing slow weight loss? The only other relevant information I can think of is I recently went back on birth control and have not had a period for about two months. BC is just to help control cysts... so it is not a necessity I be on it. With all this information... any ideas? Anyone with similar problems? Any suggestions to kick up weight loss? I have been hovering around 224 for a month now and I am getting pretty frustrated. I am not seeing a change in inches either, at least stomach. I meet with my trainer this week to test my fat to muscle ratio... so I am hoping for some good news there. I just need to see that what I am doing is making a difference. I am getting ton of compliments... but I am a numbers analytical person so I need to see hard numbers changing. Critique, advise, and suggestions are definitely wanted. I am open to changing things up, if it seems like sound advise. I am also willing to wait it out... as long as it will lead to changes. I feel a realistic goal is 6 lbs a month. I would love more, but expect at least 6. 3 lbs a month isn't cutting it. Thanks for any help! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. you nurses need to relax lolol... in reality.. sure you have a lot if extra info in your head that maybe u shouldn't but also that knowledge can be power...you can take better care of yourself too..but right now it's time to let go and be the patient...let them take care of you... don't give then a hard time bc you know better... and everyones trajectory is different and even unique so you can't predict what's going to happen and obsessing about all that can go wrong due to ur knowledge base isn't going to help you cope ir heal physically or emotionally....so try to let it go and get off the hamster wheelI know I know. Things went well and I'm feeling great! Sent from my SM-N920G using the BariatricPal App

    BCBS requirements

I have BCBS FED Basic Ppo. I had 90 days supervised diet with a nutritionist a psych evaluation (over the phone interview), and another physical. If you are at 40 BMI it is easier.. no comobidity required. If you are under 40 bmi they require at least two comorbilities. My primary physician referred me to the Bariatric surgeon but only for nutrition services as my bmi was under 40 at the time of the referral and he told me I would not be approved for surgery. Once I saw the surgeon she told me I could qualify even though I wasn't at 40bmi.. it was a bit confusing but long story short I was approved. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Psych Eval tomorrow

yes, I think it should be required even though ppo can bs it but still, I'm sure it can help those who actually desire help and insight or see the need for further treatment too!! But I know, not all insurances or incomes can get this care..just to bad it's not integrated and provided to everyone insurance or not. I think to much about ppl helping people so I just feel strongly about this issue especially facing WLS and society barely recognizes obesity's as a eating disorder... so I feel the eval, if good and tge patient is honest, they may be better prepared to accept more therapy, attend glad support group or make a connection between eating and mental health

    Diet

in the nicest way possible and with all do respect u are given a prescription for a reason and that is too follow it. I am a nurse and I could tell you some horror stories of people who didn't follow dr orders to this procedure. And we can all make excuses but it's time to face reality it's your choice to allow the temptation get to you. And in no way am I meaning to be rude or mean bc I know it's hard but just here to give u truthful advice please listen to the diet you were given. I work full time have three kids and haven't cheated bc I know that one hour of food isn't worth risking the rest of my life or not being there for my children. This is the meal I cooked tonight did I want some ohhhhh hell yes!!! Did I eat some absolutely NOT. NOT WORTH IT!!! I wish you the best of luck. You can do this I promise you!! I'm on day 6 of 14 day liquid diet I had the headaches till day 4 then they started going away. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
