Has anyone used them? If so, how do they taste?

Enjoyed a lovely carvey with hubby and our two sons yesterday for my birthday which is today. i even had half a yorkshire pudding, it was yummy. I am getting a stairlift fitted today, I didn't think i would be so excited by a stairlift on my 55th birthday, but can't wait, my left leg is agony when i walk, no more crawling upstairs in agony, yay. I am going out tonight with the ladies from our church, it is the ladies christmas meal that just so happens to be on my birthday, thinking i might have a steak. I am hoping that by this time next year i will be wearing size 18 rather than the 28 i am in today, or even a 16. I am already eating much smaller meals than i was able to eat last year, and next year i suspect i might be eating a starter for my main course, bring it on. Still waiting to get my blood test results back, hoping it will be soon, ive waited 5 weeks now, so must be nearer getting them. Funny thing about time, 5 weeks just seemed like an eternity 5 weeks ago, but here i am, 5 weeks done and hoping i will get the phone call any day now. I have been able to address comfort eating in this waiting time and also am pleased that i now prefer to go for the healthier options for my meals and always try to share it with my dogs or leave some on the plate, not bad for someone who was brought up to eat everything on my large plate. It took a long time to get over the dissapointment of my sleeve op being cancelled, but now i am at peace that i will have it when it is the right time for me, God knows best, i am resting in Him. I particularly wanted to do a blog today to record how i am feeling and will compare with how i am next year, believing God Has got good plans for me, to do me good and not harm, and that my latter years will be even more fruitful than my former years, that the years that the locusts have stolen from me will be restored back to me 100 fold, amen. Praying for everyone who reads this to have a quick easy operation with no complications and a swift good recovery, to get to the weight of your dreams. I also pray for all who have already been sleeved for good healthe and continous weight loss to get to your dream weight too, God Bless to all, Janet, xxxxx

I'm 4 weeks out from surgery and didnt lose any weight this week
KatInFL replied to O2BSkinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you read the link that is in Butterthebean's signature? It's really helpful and explains the science behind plateaus after surgery. Here it is, if you haven't see it: http://www.dsfacts.c...or-plateau.html If you haven't been getting your protein, you will want to ensure you do so...you don't want your body to break down your muscle (which actually helps the weight loss) rather than fat. ~Kat -
I weigh daily and always have, 7 months out. It really has helped me keep a check on what I am eating. If there is no weight loss I try to up the Protein, even though I try for 100gms a day, and up the exercise. I thankfully either stay the same, up maybe 2 ounces or lose, so I do not think I am obsessive either. Once in AM before anything in mouth.

I Was Sleeved Yesterday... Ughhh!
tmorgan813 replied to FluffyBleu76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your sleeve. The only thing that helped me was walking. I walked ALL THE TIME. I had my sleeve done on the 12th and am now walking 3-5 miles a day...not all at once, I break it up between 4-5 walks. It is the ONLY thing that helped get the gas out and I also think it helped me heal much faster than I expected to. It's been almost 10 days, and I am already getting my protein and liquids in. When I started, I couldn't even get an ounce of liquid in me with out feeling "overly full" and bloated. So, I say walk as much as you can....where ever you can. I live in a Condo and my first two days home, i walked in circles until the gas moved and I felt better. Good luck and let us know how you are doing!!! -
Weight loss
carolynjackson replied to carolynjackson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
tmayhan2001 I think it depends on the doctor what the pre-op diet is and when it starts. I'm hungry, drinking 2 protein shakes, broth, sugar free jello. -
I think it will be a combination of things. My experience was I headed back to the gym as soon as possible after surgery. I feel like I haven't lost any muscle mass and I try and get 45-60 grams of protein per day. I also take a performance protein to help with muscle recovery/building. It is an all vegetable protein- Vega Performance and you can purchase it at Whole Foods. It hasn't been without challenges- but I am back to teaching aerobics and I feel strong enough to give everyone a great workout, including myself. I think you will be fine.

Mussels and other seafood with a Lapband
JerseyMom29 replied to UpperWestSide's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Just saw this recipe at Bariatric Eating website., Maybe it will help, Most italian restaurants will usually have this or variation of this on their menu. Seafood in Tomato - Fra Diavola When we traveled to San Francisco for the bariatric surgeons’ convention, we sampled lots of fresh local seafood served simmered in traditional tomato based sauces such as this one. You can use mussels and shrimp as I have chosen for this version, or create your own favorite, using scallops, crab, or even a whole fish filet or cubes of a firm fish such as swordfish or mahi. I serve this delectable seafood and sauce in a deep bowl with a sprinkle of flat leaf parsley and plenty of crusty sourdough for the family. 12 garlic cloves, chopped (about 1/3 cup) 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes 1/4 cup olive oil One 28-ounce can whole tomatoes in purée 2 tablespoons tomato paste ½ teaspoon dried oregano 2 teaspoons dried basil 1 cup white wine or chicken broth Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper 1 pound mussels 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and cleaned Cook garlic and red pepper flakes in oil in a deep covered heavy skillet over medium heat, stirring, until fragrant but not browned, about 2 minutes. Add tomatoes with purée, tomato paste, oregano, basil, and wine. Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally and breaking up tomatoes for 15 to 20 minutes, until sauce is thickened. Season with salt and pepper. Just before serving, increase heat under sauce to medium high, add shrimp and mussels, cover and cook until mussels are open wide, checking frequently after 3 minutes. (Discard any mussels that remain unopened after 6 minutes.)Serve immediately. Per serving: Calories 310, fat 16gr, carbs 8.5gr, Protein 28gr Serves 4 http://www.bariatriceating.com/BErecipes/recipefiles/fish--seafood/seafood-in-tomato--fra-diavola/163/index.html -
Now that you mentioned it, I noticed mine turning as well. Maybe it's from all the "chocolate" protein drinks. I still drink the Atkins RTD shakes for breakfast, and my favorite ones are made with "real coffee". Guess it's time to get out the Crest White strips again!

Just got home from the hospital today... not sure I'll ever be able to drink this much!
MNovalis replied to Lee Mag's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll get there. Just give it some time. Your tummy is not very happy with you right now. I was sleeved on 8/3 and I am ALMOST up to 64 oz per day. Its something you have to work at, thats for sure. I even keep a bottle next to my bed and if I wake up at night, I roll over and take a few sips. Every single chance you get, take an extra sip. And remember that since you'll be sipping your meals for a little while too, even sipping your protein counts. This is like a second job! Its WORK! But you can do it, YOU HAVE TO! And your tummy will protest. But find what helps it to protest the least and stick with that until you have healed enough to move along to something else. This part wont last forever, at least thats what they have told me on here. And there are some pretty cool people on here! Good luck! -
I'm starting day 3 of pre-op diet and have had a headache since day 1. I was down to 1 coke zero/day before quitting in day 1? Is this caffeine withdrawal??? I'm drinking lots of water, 2 protein shakes a day, and broth. Sometimes sf jello or popscicles. Anyone else have this? Tylenol (only thing I can take now) is not helping! Any suggestions???

Went for a walk today in the most bizarre weather. It was so foggy and you could feel the temperatures change as you went from one area to another. Even though it was one in the afternoon, I wished I had brought a light because it was so foggy. I miss walking outside so much I could cry. I am sucking up every shred of evidence that Spring is coming. Easter stuff in the stores. Local pancake house opening soon. 57 degrees today. Lots of potholes. I have been too hungry lately so I scheduled a fill for 2/28. Since I am a teacher and this is my vacation week I will call to see if there are any last minute cancellations. My restriction is great until 5 in the evening. Then the gates of hell open and temptation begans. I still love food! Lot's of banders say they lose interest-you know eat to live, but I still love food. Tomorrow the inevitable grocery shopping-What shall we buy. kashi golean, whipped fat free, sugar free cream, bananas, laughing cow cheese. V8, some south beach protein bars, 60 calorie pudding cups. I still have lots of other food. I throw out a lot of food because I can't eat it all before it spoils. I never think to freeze stuff. What a wasteroo!!

I'm excited and nervous
KristenLe replied to jwidner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@jwidner Please don't be disappointed - we usually gain weight after surgery with all of the fluids from the IVs and swelling. Concentrate on getting in your fluids and Protein - don't worry so much about the scale at this point! Good luck at your appointment! -

Water, Protein and Vitamins should be the most important thing you do everyday and adding in exercise. Make sure you're adding Biotin for your hair. I hear so many people talk about losing hair, I can honestly say my hair is thicker than ever and I'm really on purpose will all my vitamins, water and protein Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

I really love your advice @domi about drinking water 1st thing in the morning and this can give me something to aim for before I get to work. I'm 5 weeks out and still having issues with water and protein intake.

Okay, so my pre-op diet is 1 Protein shake for Breakfast, 1 for lunch, and a salad with protein for dinner - additional shake if needed. If I get hungry in the middle, is it okay to drink broth or eat green veggies to curb the appitite?
-
Yeah I need to do better with my protein as well. It's just I had to drink so many shakes before the surgery it's like I don't care to have another protein shake lol... Thanks for the info Sent from my LG-D850 using the BariatricPal App Some people have suggested hiding Protein powder in yogurt or pudding. I haven't tried this, but it might be worth a shot.

Low iron & vitamin D
nailsbyniki replied to christy38's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lucky! I just had my 3 month check up and labs and I am low in Iron, D3, Calcium, Protein, B1 and B12! Taking supplements of all of them except the B1 and B12 and I am taking injections of those. Funny because the B1 is usually related to alcoholism but I don't even drink! These are all reasons why I've been feeling so crappy lately though...really fatigued! -
I've found a food that I'm now obsessed with. Cajun spiced smoked salmon. Highly recommended!!!! Low fat, high Protein, carbs are almost non-existent!!!

Well I was sleeved on the 17th. Surgery went well but I woke up feeling so sick. Took a while, lots of rest and hitting that morphine pump quite a few times but by 4pm I was good. I got up and walked and walked. Had a problem passing urine and was about to get a cath when bam, I finally went potty enough. The nurses were surprised how well I was getting around. I slept ok lastnight had a little bit of reflux pain but no real gas pain. I burped some but that was about it. This morning the took me for my leak test and all was good. They brought me a breakfast and lunch trey within 20 of eachother. I sipped on my water and broth. The nurse came in an removed my iv and morphine and said I could go home. So my mom came to get me and the car ride home was good. I don't live too far from the hospital. I felt pretty good so I asked my mom if she would stay while I took a shower and then she head home. I did my walking too my pain meds and slept. I have been sipping on my protein shake and my water taking it slow so I don't have any surprises. My tummy is over here talking to me as we speak but all in all I feel good.

Having a little difficulty with the preop diet...
ShellieB73 replied to ShellieB73's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, I think that because my surgery date was so soon I wasn't mentally prepared for the low cal....I am doing much better...I am drinking the Isopure chocolate protein shake twice daily and I am amazed at how that curbs my hunger. And you are totally right, boredom is my worst enemy...that and nerves. I am finding myself wanting to eat and then looking at the trigger. Then I ask myself if I am really hungry!!! I have lost 5 pounds in the past 3 days. Don't you think that most of the time we eat for all the wrong reasons!!!!!! -

It depends on what you're eating to make up those 1200 calories. If you make it high protein and low carb, you shouldn't really be hungry. -
Quick & Easy Suggestions?
1poundatatime replied to chuswysly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only about 6 weeks out, but I keep the fridge stocked with cheese strings, meat, greek yogurt, apple sauce for snacks. If I need a quick meal that I haven't prepared for I have several cans of soup in the pantry (kinda high in sodium, but better than some options). I also set aside leftovers from the night before for lunches.
