Why did you choose the sleeve after the band
Dee-Texas posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I need a revision from band to??? Gastric bypass or sleeve? Surgeon says revisions loose more weight with the gastric bypass and need the restriction plus the malabsorption. .I read here that many love the sleeve after having the revision from the band and do well. WHY did you choose the sleeve and how much weight have you lost after...a year? The reason I'm asking the surgeons office called today and said they could schedule me in mid Jan. for gastric bypass...I'm in panic mode now..trying to decide..which is safest, which have the best weight loss rate for long term and which is easier to maintain the lifestyle. I'm self pay and the sleeve is cheaper than the bypass as a revision from band. Thanks to all that answer. -

Where Do You Notice The Weight-Loss First?
Juli Salzman posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I looked at my face this morning and noticed it looks thinner. However, it is sagging, too. What can I do? I'm not anticipating being able to afford plastic surgery at any time. Are there exercises, creams, voodoo spells (j/k) that will help keep my skin up on my face? I prefer prevention to surgery.- 6 replies

Where Do You Notice The Weight-Loss First?
judych replied to Juli Salzman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i use chemical peels... they are marvellous for building collagen. Also have a skin roller (derma roller) which has lots of very small needles on the drum... i use that regularly, about twice a week to encourage collagen. thats good as well. i also use rose hip oil. i massage that in, after ive put some water on my face. im hoping that i can get away with chem peels and derma roller for some time. im 66. -
7 weeks post-op weight loss with PCOS
pcos_chick replied to Madison's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Just wanted to add that a number of my PCOS symptoms are getting better. I have less facial hair, spontaneous (but not regular) periods, skin pigmentation seems to be getting slightly better (hard to avoid the sun during summer in Texas, which isn't helping). -
Compression shirts and wraps? loose skin
gamecockfan864 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone, Was wondering about compression shirts and wraps to help prevent loose skin? Ive heard chatter about these products. Anyone tried these? Any success, suggestions? I'm only two weeks out but i want to know any information on preventive measures for loose skin. I'm sure I'm going to have some on my stomach(where i hold the most weight by far) -
I was sleeved 5 months ago with a 34 bmi weighing 185. Today my bmi is 25 and I weigh 144. It is much slower for us since there isn't as much to lose and my skin isn't bad at all. Good luck to those with upcoming surgeries. You will do great!!!

Im so upset!
Sleeveless in seattle replied to rosie13182's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't let your surgeon get you down...that is 13 lbs! No small feat, right?! I'm guessing because of your starting BMI which is very high, about the same as mine, and I'm expected to lose faster at the beginning than someone who has a lower BMI. But don't sweat it (my dad always used to say that), the weight loss will keep going and one day your surgeon will be saying "wow!". Personally, I'd almost rather lose a little slower than "normal" just because that will give my skin a better chance and I won't draw as much attention as if I'm losing massive amounts right off the bat. Just my thoughts... -
I wish I could help on this, however I look like a freak'n Shar Pei right now from sagging skin. I do know people who lose slower seem to have a lot less sagging skin. I, unfortunately, will have surgery in my future to remove it.

Did you have second thoughts?
ladylaura replied to ladylaura's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I think the emotional and mental toward the food is the biggest hurdle. I'm planning on getting back to a therapist soon to get back into these issues again. I'm seeing a nutritionist right now who has helped a bunch, and is also really good at helping with the emotional part. But, therapy I think is a must as well. That is one of my fears...that I only loose say 30 lbs after surgery...and it comes back. But...I would guess that is normal LOL -
Make a homemade sugar scrub (google for the how-to), and add pure lemon juice to it, and you can apply straight lemon juice it. Over-moisture those areas after your done and allow it to dry. I'm pasty white, but my thighs had a funky reddish tone to them. The lemon sugar-scrub and applying lemon juice helped. Plus, the more weight I lost, the less they rubbed together so that definitely helped too. Now, all my skin is the same color.

Does anyone use firming lotion or can it hinder weight loss? I'm being sleeved on Monday and while I'm happy with my decision to do so and know that it's for health reasons, I am afraid of saggy skin and deflated boobs. I've always had huge boobs so I'm sure I'll need a lift if anything. I'm going through a separation and will eventually begin dating again. I've always had body image issues being over weight, and I'd hate to have body image issues while I look great in clothes but am still afraid to be seen naked. Guess there's always plastic surgery down the road . Oh and is there anyone else close to my size? I'd love to hear how your body has changed. I'm 5'6, 46DDD, Size 18-20 pants, 26-28 shirt, and 24 dress.

November 30th was my first time back to the Dr. Office. All went well! No problems thus far eating. I am surprised that I can eat but I am sure not eating what I used too:) I will not get a fill for about a month and I am looking forward to it. I am not feeling too much restriction from the band. I know it is there and I eat less, however, I thought that I would be able to eat a bite and be finished. I can eat 2 scrambled eggs! I was hoping It would be more like 1. I need some tough love from my band I think:biggrin: I wanted to see a more rapid wieght loss! I have to say that I did loose 9.5 lbs since the 20 though. I guess that is not too bad.http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wa5VtfX/]

This was a big fear for me as I had very long hair going into surgery especially since a surgery in my 20's relieved me of 50% of what I had on my head! I started taking 5000 mcg of Biotin 1 month prior to surgery. After surgery I added in a band specific (Opurity) multi, and although my hair did get stronger, I still started to shed right at the 3 month mark. This was despite the fact that I tracked every gram of Protein I ate in a day and always made sure I was well over 70g. Then someone recommended Omega 3. I don't eat fish, and really when I looked at my diet I wasn't getting a lot of Omega 3 from anything. I started taking 3 a day, and oh my god the difference in my hair was amazing after 30 days. The shedding stopped completely and my hair just glowed. On an added note I can say that the biotin made my nails super strong. The zinc in my Multivitamin removed those tiny white spots that I had for years on my nails as well! I'd say that the combination of everything contributed to me not losing as much hair after this surgery. But I can't say for sure the magic pill was specifically the omegas, the biotin, the multi or the protein, but either way my hair, skin and nails are the best they have ever been. Hard to believe with all I used to eat (and it was a lot!) I was so nutritionally void.

Need advice on how to get banded quickly
CrisM replied to chsricha's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello, Have you called your insurance and verified the requirements? I have Blue Cross and I went I went to my originally chosen dr. for the surgery, they told me I had to talk to a dietician for 6 months. Well, it turns out that it was completely false. I only had to see the dietician once and now I am schedule for surgery in two weeks with a different surgeon. That's why I suggest you call you your insurance. I know that there are some insurance companies that do require 3-6 months of speaking with a dietician. Have you tried other weight loss through other means? Such as Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, etc? If so, do you have it documented? Because then you can appeal it and show proof that you have tried loosing weight, and sometimes they will accept that and won't require you to see the dietician. Best of luck to you and congrats on your wedding!! -
Plastic Surgery (Tummy Tuck)?
spoiltmom replied to Nettie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't wait to have my tummy tuck but I have to get closer to my goal weight first. It's entirely possible that having all that skin removed will actually put you at goal. As for the scars I was told if you do a full TT it will take care of any scars and marks that are below the belly button. -
sorry i meant to put 2017 its been 2 years since my surgery ,i want to revise it to any procedure to loose more weight

So, it is late Saturday night and I am thinking about this change that is coming. No, not Obama's promise but my promise to myself to loose it for life. My first consult is Tuesday morning and I am excited. I have typed a list of questions and combed the message boards looking for complaints and other experiences with the band so that I can be through at the consult. I am much interested in a surgeon that I work with however he has not been granted privileges to perform over at the west location however he is working on that. I will continue onward with this adventure of meeting the clinically late Enochs (or so is his reputation) and hope for the best. This evening I went to dinner at On The Border and realized that I may only be able to eat there for a few more weeks. Once the band is installed, it will be a while before I can enjoy fajitas again! Good thing I am not a soda addict. Hugs to myself for taking this step!

Ok so i had my 3rd fill one month ago. I now have 5.6CC and in the first week i lost 4lbs.....and that is it!!:smile2: Once i started eating solids i have maintained. In total i have lost about 35lbs..in the last 7 months. i am only 1/3 away from my goal and i have ZERO restriction. One night i was able to eat about 10oz of MEAT! and to top it off i had about 2oz of mash potatoes. I have been keeping to 1200-1500 cal per day and about 65+ grams of protein. I am working out 2-3 times a week. I just started going to Zumba classes and at home i work on tummy crunches. It just seems my body is refussing to give up any FAT. I have not been perfect with the Diet.... with 3 small kids it seems i am always surrounded by food and so i find myself eating cookies, crackers, godfish, chips... and ofcourse those things go down well:sneaky: I have my next appt in 4 weeks. I would be somewhat happy to be able to loose a total of 10 lbs before then. I am guessing my Dr will give me another 1CC... I read alot of blogs and hear people say that they " are at their sweet spot" I would truely be happy if i could loose 1 lbs a week...more importantly to see iches come off!! I hope soon i will be able to have a more positive Blog. thanks for hearing me out... its good to vent!:wink2:

I am feeling like a lunatic this weekend. I can't focus on anything and am shopping like a nut. Nothing too outgrageous, but I don't act like this. I've bought 3 pairs of flip flops, sports sandals, a lounging gown that I plan to wear home from the hospital, a new fan for the living room, protein powder, more broth, liquid Tylenol, Gas-x strips, weird cream soups, baby oatmeal, food I hate that my kids can eat, and other stuff. I keep forgetting to eat, which isn't good for a diabetic. OK, feeling calmer. ...I see my surgeon this week for my preop exam. I have to sign papers of consent, and pay a $2000 deposit, which sucks. Since I have to use a Carecredit card, they are chargin me $160! What's up with that? Ok, be calm...be the rock, be the sky... I have a dozen things I should be doing but am not doing any of it. Oh! Here's something cool! I went to my closet yesterday and discovered that clothes that have never buttoned, now fit me, I was so excited that I started pulling shirts from the back of my closet to try on. My pants are loose, too. Can I just have the surgery this week, please? I am too worked up. Let's just do it!!! I really am going to go crazy while I count down :w00t:the days.

I have so much more energy its amazing, my husband said to me that my "soul was smiling more" and that i have a great light around me that encourages others now... thats more than any loose pants can do! congrats to all of us!!!

Pregnant on BC !

How on earth did you manage to loose 84lbs in 4 months? Please please tell me.. -
I did not realized I had been gone from this forum for so long. I have actually started realizing how much I missed the support and resources here. I am glad to report that since my surgery May 10th,2010 I have gone from 253lbs down to 176lbs. I am nearing the "normal" BMI but I believe that I will not reach it only because I do not want to be that thin. I believe I will hold my weight at 175 and forgo that extra 10lbs. I feel great!!! I have gone from wearing size 46 waisted jeans to 34's and they are getting loose on me too. From 2XL shirts to Medium. I do P90X and other exercise on a regular basis and am getting good muscle tone. Stronger, faster, leaner than I was ever even at 17years old. I am greatful for my surgery. I have stopped all my diabetics meds months ago and have reduced my BP meds too. 2011 will not include a weightloss goal...for this I am proud and greatful.
