Hi, new here - hope I am doing this right :)
JessicaE replied to JessicaE's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ty! So not going to be a problem, grease and I never really got along anyway Bread, cheese, pasta, rice - those are my main downfalls. I love chicken (only eat boneless, skinless breast anyway, though I do like them oven friend on occasion) and veggies. Honestly, I have always eaten fairly healthy. I just eat enough for 4 people in one sitting. Or ate enough. I'm not really doing sugar free Popsicles but I did find all natural lemon fruit pops with 70 calories. I can only eat half at a time and allow myself half a day now. -
Feeling empowered finally!!!!!!!!

Glad your weight loss has continued. That is great. Funny how the body works. Who would have thought you can lose weight uping your calories. -
My typical day: Breakfast: 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1/3 cup egg whites cooked into the oatmeal with 1/8 cup blueberries, 2 pecan halves and 1 teaspoon raw sugar, substitute breakfast, Greek yogurt with 1/8 cup granola ( I love crunch) or small tortilla with egg whites scrabbled with some peppers, onions and tablespoon of cheese. ( I have an addiction for Starbucks SF Nonfat Carmel Machatta on the days I indulge I have my coffee and a protein bar) Snack mid morning: small protein bar or shake depending on how breakfast went or how busy my afternoon is going to be Lunch: 2-3 ozs of lean protein, turkey, chicken, pork. or fish. (early days I ate a lot of thinly sliced lunch meat, other meats were dry and got stuck. 1/2 cup green veggies, or a very small salad with oil and vinegar. If I am going to eat a starch this would be the meal I would do it. Mid afternoon snack, small apple or banana with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter or a protein bar. Depends on how portable I need my snack to be. Dinner: Again lean meet around 3 ozs and a veggie. Snack: 1/8 to 1/4 cup of almonds or sometimes 2 cups of popcorn. I have ate this way for over two years, I have always done snacks, I was never able to do just 3 meals. It took me months to work up to a 1000 calories a day and I try very hard to keep my calories around 1200. I am at goal and I still eat this way but now I try to hit 1400 to 1600 calories a day and yes I still weigh and measure my food and I still eat off a small plate with a big fork. I do not drink with meals. I do not deprive myself of anything I want, if I want something that is high calorie and not as nutritious, I eat it and adjust accordingly. I say that now but I am at goal, when I was trying to lose, I rarely indulged. I allowed my self one splurge meal a week on a Thursday. I find weekends, especially Sundays difficult and exercise was the key to continued successful weigh loss for me. Good luck and hope this helps.

does anyone use my fitness pal who can answer maybe a few questions for me?
RestlessMonkey replied to dreamsize8's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
How long did you give it? At your height/age/weight 1200 a day should NOT put you in starvation mode unless you are exercising like a maniac every day. But you know your body best. You tried eating all the calories from your exercise and that wasn't working. -

How tall are you and how much do you weigh now? That will make a difference in how many calories you need each day to keep losing....I don't know "my fitness pal" but am VERY familiar with calorie counting LOL -
2.25.08: i should be in a band...
staindgal commented on staindgal's blog entry in No more chinese buffet...
Dear Plumpy Pad, So my weight went down today, which is AWESOME! Everyday I am going to wake up and weigh myself! Then on Sundays I will measure my waist, and every single day I will write down everything I eat so I have a log of EVERY calorie! In addition to actually watching what I eat, I have found that playing the radio while I am at work is AMAZING! I just type and rock out! It is so much fun! I mean when I have appointments I have to turn it down, but still - SUPER FUN! I should just be the person in a band that thrashes around wildly to the music with absolutely no rhythm!:tt2: So I am going to blog here everyday to chart what I eat, and my calories. I know 1lb. = 3,500 calories. I know my body burns 3,000 calories a day just by being alive... FOOD REPORT: February 24, 2008 I ate: mac 'n cheese w/ spinach and onions (560) My total calories were: 560 Calorie Debt: 567,000 - (3000-560) = 564,560 February 25, 2008 I ate: nothing (0) My total calories were: 0 Calorie Debt: 564,560 - (3000-0) = 561,560 Okay, that make me feel better! I have always been into math, so I hope I can calculate myself thin!! See you tomorrow! -

I'm 1 week post op. I don't know how to tell when I'm full and I'm scared I'm over eating. Calorie wise I'm usually around 5-700. I'm aiming for 50 gram of Protein a day. My nut said to get 40 the first few weeks on liquids. I've stopped drinking 15 minutes before and 30 after. The things I eat for means or Snacks are 1 packet of cream of wheat, 1/2 cup of pudding, although today I at 1 cup of pudding. I just made cream if chicken Soup for dinner. It was one can of Campbell's. I ate about half of it. In none of these instances I felt full. I feel terrible gas pain between and under my breasts, but it passes. I think I feel hungry and that is why I start to eat. That desire an hunger goes away. I realize that's good but I still don't feel my stomach saying I should stop not have I over ate? I'm just confused because I was told I would get full very quickly.

My doctor and my NUT both want me to stear clear of shakes at this stage. Liquid calories add up fast and are not as filling now that I'm all healed up. Precooking would be a good idea, I just never feel like I have the time to do it. Its just me and my boyfriend at home though, and if I ever feel like not cooking, and want an easy night he has no problem with finding something on his own. I just need to be smarter in what I'm eating right now. I need to remember I'm in the weight loss phase still and not maintenance. Thank you for your ideas!

I'm allowed to drink any zero calorie drinks I want so long as they're not carbonated. I just try to watch my sodium so I don't puff up.

Going through my Bandster "hell"
honk replied to goosapotomus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree if you are going to have a snack (which my doctor frowned upon) I would stick to high protein low carb. Chicken breast or string cheese. I would stay away from liquid calories as they slide right through the band and leave you hungry. -
I am just starting my 3rd week post op and have only lost 6lbs since date of surgery? I am following the diet and only eating what my surgeon told me to eat. I am not sure why I am not losing more weight? I calculate I am consuming between 600-800 calories a day and am eating mushies. My first appointment for a potential fill is on 3/25. Any advice?

I pretty much just eat what my family eats, just smaller portions. I could eat tons I'm sure, however I stick to no more than 1 cup of food regardless of how much I could physically eat. Here's what I'll have today: Breakfast- Protein shake, 3/4 cup of Cereal with skim milk Lunch- 1/2 cup of leftover Pasta from last night, 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese Dinner- Lean Cuisine dinner (kids are all over the place so I'm on my own tonight lol) Snack- sugar free pudding In total, my day will be at around 900 calories

Banded in July 08 and have only lost 10 pounds!! HELP!
cattoy71 replied to Dee66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It couldn't hurt to try keeping your calories between 800 and 900 a day for a week and see how that goes! I think my doctor recommends about this amount while you are in the active weight loss phase, and the amount increases slightly when you are in maintenance phase. I know it sounds like soooo few calories, but it really makes you super aware of just how many empty calories you are taking in. It would be so easy for me to meet my daily calorie intake with just snacking! Try to commit to the week challenge and see how you feel....you've come so far by getting banded, you just need to find the magic to re-start your weight loss fire. p.s. If you are looking for a calorie buddy, hit me up cause I could totally use the support too! -
5 Weeks Post Op And Feeling Discouraged
flab u less replied to JanellesMommy8210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was Banded on 3/19. I am six weeks post op today I was 231 surgery day 221 two weeks post op 211. And for the last three weeks scene went up and down and up.as of today my scale says 208. I also exercise 45 minutes a day 6 days. I was crazy frustrated too. My calories were too low for me. I was eating lime 500 to 600. I ripped them too 800 to 900 and the past four days finally see the scale going back down. Time is what it takes.and go by the book. No excuses of whining is what I say.. its gonna come off. It has too. -

crzytchr replied to Dee66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with a previous poster, you sound a little too tight. Sometimes just a small unfill will make all the difference. Also, you may want to make sure you eat at least a 1000 calories a day. I try to stay 1200-1500. It varies. If you stay below 1000, your body will think you are starving it. -
I've been using MFP to keep me on track since an unfill and gain. But yesterday nothing stayed down, but last night I was able to get powerade, water, and beef broth down so I'm feeling much better. But yes, I was worried about not getting any calories.

At what point did you feel most like you post op?
shelly22 replied to rockdutchess82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 6/18 and I feel about 60% my normal. I find that my energy level is down which is probably normal due to the decrease in calories. I was suppose to return to work next week but I have decided to take off one more week. -
Trouble eating slowly?
B-52 replied to irishgirl520's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're only 3 weeks out from surgery...you are still healing....all you have had done is to have the band installed, but without any fills-adjustments, everything is the way it was prior to surgery...same hunger, cravings, etc. Your Dr. has a treatment plan, I'm sure. As you progress and have regular Dr. visits and band adjustments, things will slowly change. It has to go slow, as the band changes so do you have to learn and change along with the band...that is the hardest phase of all and can take months....that is bandster hell. Unfortunately, some people never "Find It"...change can be hard. We have lived our entire lives eating the wrong foods the wrong away. It takes many people out of their comfort zone and choose not to progress forward. There is a large learning curve, and it does not happen 3 weeks or even 3 months after surgery. I had 3 major fills after surgery, each one spaced 1 month apart....and even then, it took a full year of hard knocks (stuck episodes, etc) before I finally started to "Get It" I am now over 4-1/2 years out, and can say things have become normal, a "New Normal" Hang in there, this thing does work...but it takes some learning and adjusting to get it right. Untill then, all you can do is pay attention to calorie intake and portion sizes, just as you did with any traditional diet prior to surgery. BTW, I once asked my Dr, why it took a series of fills-adjustments. He asked me to imagine what it would have been like if he "Fully Adjusted" the band during surgery.....No, I cannot imagine! It would have been a disaster! I can understand why he had to take it slow. This is also why many Dr.'s are going to the sleeve as opposed to the band....with the sleeve, you have it done and that's it....unlike the band.... It's also why many say the band has a low success rate....at any point you can stop the fills, or even go backwards..... People do not like change. -
7lbs to goal. my drs. goal. i would like to lose 30 more. we'll see. k. so i was stagnant for like almost 3 months. last week t-th i went to curves and drank 'skinny' mochas. ok, not as good, but im down 4lbs. gee, imagine, less calories and excercising, who knew? when i was little, i my family used to call me 'flaca' because... well, i was. i was all elbows and knees. an older brother saw me yesterday... flaca he called me. lol. took me back a whole lot of years. i smiled. i look in the mirror and still see a fat girl. though i seem to move funny now. im surprised when i can cross my legs. i mean really cross them. not just the ankles. lol. i stole a pair of size 12 levi jeans from a niece. they were her fat jeans, but they are becoming my too big jeans. now what? what do i do once the weight starts to just be gone. its like i wait for it to strike at me from behind or something. its gonna come back. i know its not. its just weird.

what to use when protein shakes are too sweet
Kindle replied to southernbelleAU's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought (and still think) the Protein shakes were all too sweet, too. I ended up diluting everything. If it's a powder, I used 16-20 oz of milk or Water instead of the 8oz the directions called for. I mixed Premier chocolate RTD 1/2 and 1/2 with milk to make it much more palatable. The other option is to add unflavored Protein Powder to broths for a savory option. As for your stall, 3 months out seems a little early to be resorting back to liquids. Stalls this early are typically caused by not enough fluids, not enough protein, actually too few calories, or its just your body taking a break and it's totally normal. 60 pounds is a huge loss for just 3 months....your body definitely could use a break. Not to mention you are probably losing inches even if you aren't losing pounds. I lost absolutely nothing between weeks 6 and 10. In fact I actually gained 3 pounds. But I Dropped a whole pant size in those 4 weeks and finally started losing again as soon as I drastically INCREASED my calories and fluids. So Make sure you are getting AT LEAST 64oz fluids and 60-80g protein before you opt to starve your poor body even more. BTW, What's your calorie intake? -
I thought my eating was worse then it was yesterday. I had about 1200 calories yesterday. It just wasn't meals. So today I took the time to go get a LC meal 150 calories and I have 2 salmon cakes, hopefully I will only eat one. They are about 100 calories a piece so it is really ok but I did not walk yesterday so I want to keep my calories down. I did do floor exercise last night and I will walk today.:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: I forgot my dag gone shirt again. I need to put one in the car so I don't forget.

It's a great idea. I got out my Richard Simmons FoodMover and started clicking off my food. It kept me on track with getting everything in and avoiding the "too many carbs, not enough protien and veggies" habit I tend to get into. I slid the 1200 calorie card in the slot and had a few windows leftover at the end, 2-3 days in a row! So I thought, "hmmm, maybe I'll turn the card over and do the 1000 calorie Blast Off week" since it was so easy and I had windows still open. So I pulled out the card, and it was already on the Blast off week! My band makes it super easy to follow a plan, any plan! as long as I have one. Okay, I have talked myself into getting out my FoodMover again...thanks for the kick in the butt! :hat:

I dont think there is necessarily a window. However, it is easier to lose weight in the beginning because at a higher weight, your body uses more calories to maintain your body and the weight drops faster. It is also easier to lose weight in the beginning because motivation is higher and you start with a liquid diet. I can see that if a person does not follow the program and bandster rules in the beginning after banding and has minimal or no success at banding once they reach restriction . . . then chances of future success are diminished. You have to be committed to the lifestyle. If you are committed, then I think you can find success at banding during any point in the journey whether it is in the first 6 months or 10 years down the road.
