  1. I attended a support group last night and it was inspirational. When you talk to people in your life that can’t relate to what you are going through but they try and support you anyway that’s great, but last night I got a change to fellowship with people who knew exactly what I was going through. These were people who were from all different backgrounds but who were brought together for the same reason their struggled with weight. I was also able to ask questions, one lady even let me fill where her port was (wow) she has been banded since May and is down 68lbs. After a lady in her 50’s broke down and told her story about how she hated to look in the mirror and how she was doing this for herself I was in tears. Anyway this is just my experience, I think everyone should consider going to a support group or a couple of support groups if they are deciding to do this. They remind you that you are truly not alone.

  3. I wondering if some of the ppl who have been banded for a while and have had great success can say what has really worked for you:redface:.... What has caused you to be a success. How have you worked with your band.
  4. When are you planning on getting banded...I cant wait for mine.
  5. That sucks I have an IUD (have had it since Feb) I wonder what they will tell me..
  6. Hi, congrats in getting banded... can you tell me a little about your surgery day? Just overall how it went.
  7. Wow...I think this should be required reading before you get the bad. I had it all wrong I thought is was about restricting the amount of food that you could it. I makes sense to me. But is it true????
  8. I have heard a lot of people saying that after their complications they gained the weight back. My question is how? Are they not eating right and exercising? Or is it just automatic that since the band has gone bad you will gain the weight back? I’m just curious if the band helps me loose all the weight wont eating right and exercising help me keep it off not matter what complications may occur with the band later on down the line?
  9. How would you say you gained the weight back? Is it becasue you had no restriction? Just asking...Good luck
  10. Every surgeon is different. I went to the seminar 10/11/10 the gave me a packet to complete. Turned it in 10/19/10. Now I'm wating to here back from them.
  11. Has anyone used Central Carolina Surgery in Greensboro NC? If so how long did it take for you to here from them once you turned in your packet?
  12. I haven't been banded yet but I have been telling ppl that I've been considering it...Big mistake. Not everyone is being supportive. It hurts a little so I've decided to stop talking about it and just do it. When I at my goal weight if they ask then I will share.
  13. Congrats...Good luck (smile)
  14. I have united Health Care choice for city employees. They didn’t require anything other than a letter of medical necessity from my doctor and a BMI over 40 or 35 with co-morbidities. But the surgeon Central Carolina Surgery wanted 5 years notes showing my weight, letter from my doctor, sleep study questionnaire, two letters from friends and one from myself. Once I turn in my packet with all the information (which I did yesterday) the will call the insurance and get pre approval, then will they’ll schedule me to meet the surgeon. That day they will schedule all my other appointments. But they wouldn’t even talk to me until I went through the seminar. I think every surgeon is different.
  15. In my opinion people who self fill so that they can party have not made the commitment to the band and the lifestyle change. These are the people who will not lose the weight or gain it back and then want to blame the band. If I do this I’m in it full force….maybe self filling to party or eat more is why you needed the band in the 1st place.
  16. I say sit down in a room by yourself no tv or radio. Weigh the pros and cons. If the cons outweigh the pros then so be it let it go...but if the pros out weight the cons, (pros being better health and more time with your family)make a decision to stop lsitening to other people. Its your family ofcourse they are concerned with your health..they love you. But this is your desicion to make. And we are here to support you!!
  17. Thanks for sharing(smile)

  20. I'm just got the last records and letter from my doctors office today.. I'm going to turn in my packet to the sugeron tomorrow. I'm one day closer!!
  21. For me it's not that I cant, but what I will be using it for is a toll to help me. Whenever I lost weight in the past I used a tool. Weight Watcher, LA weight loss ect... but when I couldnt afford them anymore I gained it right back. The band for me is a long term tool that will help me get down to a healthy weight.
  22. Hey I'm starting the process just got my packet and I'm working on getting banded by 02/11. I dont mind having a budy who understands what I'm going through. Any way I'm 27 will be 28 in Dec...
  23. Can anyone send me a copy amanda.calvin@greensboro-nc.gov
  24. Does anyone know what should be included in this letter? And what if my doctor says no. I'm 5'7 279 lbs BMI 44
