Why is everyone converting from band to sleeve?
I hadn't heard of the sleeve before I was banded, and this is kinda why I chose the band. I hadn't had a child. I had actually been told I couldn't but was still holding out hope....which is good because I now have a soon to be 4 year old, lol... In any case, I was scared that if I was pregnant I would not be able to nourish my child as well with RNY. I know lots of ladies do, but it was still a concern for me. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App Same here. In 2009, the sleeve wasn't the "go to" surgery as it is today, but I believe just a first step towards a multi-stage procedure. If it was available back then, I'm pretty sure I would've gone for it but the marketing back then concerning the lap band was amazing. It wasn't till years later that the stories of complication arose.

Round Two - Band to Sleeve
@@Nikkinee Yes, I actually made a topic in the Band to Sleeve revision asking if those that had the band to sleeve find themselves to have an easier recovery. By day 3, I felt normal except for muscular pain like one would feel if they had done too many sit ups. Only bad time was the first 4 hrs after my surgery, then I slept on Day 2. I chalked it up to having the most awesome surgeon but I'm seeing it time and time again. I can tolerate all foods, and right away I could drink water like crazy.

New topic time...
@ Wow's latest update is far better than the last expansion. Of all games, I have to exercise control not to play it too often, otherwise no work is done haha. @@Moogle I always said that if I played wow when I was in graduate school, I would've never graduated. I'm dead serious about that lol. Warlocks are OP right now. I play a shadow priest and priests are much stronger this time around . @@OzRoo I'm on Steam but I usually play offline because I hide out from one particular friend who rather talk about his problems than play haha. You know how it is when you're really thinking of strategy and someone rather talk than "play". I wish I could just hide out to that one friend and let others see me but I can't. hehe

Totally embarrassed by bodily functions
Hmm could it be you're lactose intolerant or something in the type of shakes you're drinking is incompatible with your system? Maybe you can switch to another type of shake...

Friends and family reaction your wls surgery
I told two people who I trust, mainly because just in case of an emergency. I find my support here, among those who are thinking about it or have done it. As much as I love my family, my life is my own, and to be successful in anything, you can't have negativity surrounding you. I can cut toxic people out of my life, but can't do that to my family so it's better left unsaid. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Pain under left rib cage
If it was the right side, I'd say go to the ER (appendicitis) but since it's the left, it's probably gas. Everytime I eat a certain Soup, I'd get the same pain. Mine was a sharp pain and hurt when i took a deep breath. Glad you're calling your surgeon tomorrow though. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Gastric Sleeve Experts... Please Chime In!
I am over a year and a half post-op and if I do eat too much I know. It happens less often as I am learning and listening to my body, but it does happen on occasion. Reminding myself to slow down and eat mindfully really helps. Thank you, thank you . I was anxiously awaiting an answer. Good to know. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Gastric Sleeve Experts... Please Chime In!
Do any of you vets who have been following your program (i.e. healthy foods not slider foods), do you still get the same "one bite too many" warning, or does that disappear? Thanks in advance!

f**king freezing
Thanks @@Sai! I just ordered my first pair of footed PJs since I was a little kid, butt flap and all! "Those are cute as can be on a woman. Not so much on a man..." Bah! There are mens' styles. I double dare you (edited because autocorrect is never correct /cry)

Feel like such a failure...
Great comments on this thread . You're not a failure, a failure would not log in and tell their story, nor would they even try to figure out how to get back on track. They say nothing, and do nothing.

Genepro Unflavored Protein
Basically Genepro's competitors do not understand the idea of purified Protein (getting rid of all the waste) and the addition of prohydrolase to increase protein bioavailability. Many of the competitors that are "complaining" about GENEPRO are themselves under a lawsuit for spiking their protein powder.

Round Two - Band to Sleeve
I had no idea that there were online OA meetings! I tried to go to a local one a few months ago, but lost my nerve. I need to look into this option! Throughout the day and night too. Here is the main link that lists all of them. Just select your time and your options. https://oa.org/find-a-meeting/?type=1

Round Two - Band to Sleeve
@@ZinNH I'm a little over 2 months post op, and what I've found is that during the day, I have to eat every 2 to 3 hrs anyway because I can't eat more than 3-4 oz at a time. It's true that the slider foods are the same with the band and the sleeve... High calorie liquids, chips, cake... Etc. However, for me, I am finding it is far easier, less willpower needed, choosing healthy foods. I had to exercise a LOT of willpower when I had the band not to eat slider foods. For years, I'd get stuck on an healthy things. For example, I can munch an apple now and enjoy all the nutrition it gives my body. I can eat anything I want but just much less of it. It's like a normal stomach but much smaller. If you go one bite too many, one will feel absolutely miserable. I did that once and haven't came close to it since. It was that bad. Fast heartbeat, nausea, almost like having a heart attack. Everybody gets different symptoms though. As far as head hunger, we all suffer from it, but the removal of ghrelin does help the cravings, and in turn, you naturally make better decisions. I think it's important to have it done with success on your mind. I miss my band sometimes (I had a successful band with little complications except a finicky sweet spot was annoying, expensive and time consuming) but no regrets. I've known quite a few with food addiction, and after the sleeve they also see a therapist and they are successful. I personally go to online OA meetings (Overeaters Anonymous) when I start feeling those unwanted feelings of obsession with food.

One thing you do to set up your day in a positive way?
Every morning, I like to weigh myself, log it, then review what I ate the day before in my food log (calories/carbs/fats/nutrition). It helps me stay focused... Then I usually follow it up with a good cup of coffee.
-
I know I know don't weigh. Just curious ...
My first week (I think 10 days) I didn't lose a pound yet taking in only 300-500 cal/day. It's just your body retaining Water or adjusting to the major surgery, try not to let the scale dictate your moods. I know it's hard in the beginning... I weigh every day, although I totally understand those who do not. I started on June 17, 2009 when I first got my band surgery, and look at my log/charts often. Just for myself, I feel if I don't, then I'll lose track like before when I creeped up to almost 300 lbs (probably more because I didn't ever weigh myself ). It's just a friendly reminder that I care about my health.

Surgery Monday 10/24 Feeling Hungry
I'm taking 40mg of Protonix. I'm nervous that something went wrong with the surgery. Sent from my SM-G920T using the BariatricPal App I think that's normal. When people are in pain, they think something went wrong with the surgery, when people (like myself) had the easiest recovery (or was hungry the first couple of weeks), we think something went wrong with the surgery. By the 3rd day I felt so "normal" and I swear I thought they didn't do it except that I had holes all over my tummy hehe.... But once I hit the solid food stage, there was no doubt about it. ^^ Your hunger will drop off once the swelling goes down and you get the acid under control.

Cream for scars?
Been using Mederma advanced once daily.

Realistic water intake
I was able to get 64 oz from day three too but I'm aware many have a much tougher time in recovery as far as pain when drinking . Just do what you can and as long as you don't have medication that turns your urine different colors, make sure that it's a light honey color. Dark urine, dizziness... Etc. are big flags of dehydration. Just keep sipping all day.

Protein supplements - What is the highest # of protein with the lowest volume to have to drink?
I can't drink any Protein drink, pre-made or otherwise. I'm a big fan of unflavored protein if I find myself running low on protein. Maybe get some unflavored protein and add it to your purees/drinks. I use GENEPRO but others here like Isopure and many others.

September Sleevers!
Hi all, I have to use good ol' willpower to keep it around 1000 cal. My average is 900 calories. I am a sloooow but steady loser, even the snail beats me but I am content with a 1-2 lbs a week. Hmmm, I don't do low-fat anything nor do I intake any artificial sweeteners (or sugar) though. I prefer whole foods so that means whole cream in my coffee. I love healthy fats like avocados, baked fish with olive oil and spices... Etc. What I've eaten so far today: S: Coffee with 2T creme. B: 3.5 oz Wild-caught Salmon baked with a soy sauce/natural Peanut Butter coating, 1/3 edamame S: Watermelon 1 cup L: 4 oz Cauliflower pizza recipe with extra cheese topping (no meat this time)... I really love this recipe lol. Not sure what I'm going to have for dinner yet but I have left over grilled spicy Catfish in the fridge.

Bcbs of texas
If you're located near Dallas. Have you tried Kim's Bariatric? They did all the paperwork for me, an on appeal, my revision was approved. I didn't have any health issues except high blood pressure. My insurance is BCBS of Texas too.

How long does it usually take to get surgery date?
About four months for me. The quicker you can get all the testing done, the sooner you can get on schedule... At least that's the way it worked at my bariatric center. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

Stalled in first month
My best guess is it's Water weight, and just be patient and the scale will move soon. Even at 1200 cal per day, you should be losing that's why I think it's water weight or your body is still adjusting to the major surgery. I had a tremendous amount of water retention the first few weeks... Still do off and on. Drink more water to flush it out, like 68 oz at the very least. It'll help curb head hunger too. Like what others are saying, take your PPI as directed so you won't have acid mimicking hunger pains. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
