  1. I'm 3 months out and my port site is still sore it has gotten better. I got pain with a sip of water and loss 11 lbs in 4 days by the 5 I was starving and couldn't take the pain so I called the doctor. He met me on a Saturday and checked my band. Come to find out I have 4 cc of fluid and the swelling combined was causing my problems. He removed all the fluid, bands come with some fluid according to the doctor and mine had a little much. I would get it checked so you can eat and drink something without pain and have a successfull beginning... Good luck to you..

  2. I have to agree 40 lbs is great. I was banded 1/11/11 and I'm down 29 lbs yea... You dont want to get were you are restricted and have to barf when things get hung. I have been there several times and it is not fun. I'm at 4 cc and I can really feel the restrictions. I have to think about everything I put in my mounth. I take a bite a wait for several minutes and then try another bite. This is definetly a journey and a whole new way of eating. I'm glad for the weight loss but when you get stuck and are in a restraunt with a wait line in the ladies room and have to barf in the sink it's not a pleasant experience. Good luck to everyone....

  3. Boy can I relate.... I was banded January 11th. I loss 11 pounds in the first 4 days.. But I was miserable I couldn't get down water I was so tight. Had 4 cc taken out and still had some food getting hung. I dont understand yet what people are talking about restriction is this food getting hung and wont go down?? I'm only down 19 lbs as of today. I also started at 260 and weigh between 239 and 241. I did get a fill of 4 cc on 2/22/2011. Seems like alot but my doctor said I had some air in my band about 2 cc and that is why he gave me 4 cc. I have good days and bad. Some days everything gets hung. Again is that the restriction?? I constantly weigh but starting this week. I'm going to 1 day a week and see if that makes a differences in my outlook.

  4. By seeing a big difference do you mean that you get full quick? But most of all does anything get stuck?? I just got my band Jan 2011 and had 4 cc in with was a mistake and everything got stuck and it was misserable. I have nothing in my band now and go for a fill on the 23rd. I dont want to have that awful feeling of every bite sending me to my knees.

  5. I really can relate to the pain and it is no fun. I know everyone wants to loose weight but the band as my doctor tells me "isn't suppose to be used for punishment:" . You should be able to eat without having major pain from just a few bites. I lived with it for a week and couldn't stand the pain anymore and the hunger so I had fluid taken out of my band. I haven't lost a pound in 3 weeks and go back 2/23/10 for a fill. Not sure how much if any. This is really alot harder for me than others. My husband also got the band the same day and he is doing so good. He has loss 40lbs in 3 weeks. He doesn't get hungry so he eats and makes really good choices and only east a small amount. I stay hungry and still make good choices but havent loss but 8lbs and that was the first week after surgery. OH well hope it gets better..

  6. I can see your getting discouraged as I would to. Have you talked this over with your Dr.? I'm only 13 days out have been bounding back and forth my self. I read were other have loss large amounts of weight but you have to realize some others may have alot more to loose that others. My husband was banded on the 11th along with me and he has he down 30 lbs in 2 weeks were I'm only about 7lbs, but he is 100lbs more than me. I've read so much about protein, protein and more protein being the key and being a newbie I'm not sure but I'm going to try to add more protein to my food intake. I wish you well as all us bandsters do. I think the lapband is a tool but not a quick fix and hopefully we will look back in a year at our blogs and laugh at our frustation when we too are down 50 to 100lbs.

  7. I purchased the chewable vitamins, I got CVS brand and they are not very good I think I will try the flintstone brand next go round and see if they taste any better. Probably a good thing not to weigh until at the dr's. I was banded 11 days ago and weighted everyday. I lost 11 lbs and my band was to tight so I had a hard time getting anything down so the dr loosed. Unfortuanetly I have gained back 4 of those pounds. You definelty dont want to get anything stuck because it is a misearble feeling for about 5 minutes.

  8. I can speak from experience you dont want to rush it. I was banded 1/11/11 and have loss 12 lbs. The weigh loss is good... I had to much saline in my band and had to go back in on a Sunday to have some take out. I can get liquids down now but things are still getting hung a little and TRUST ME you dont want that pain. To take a sip of water and feel like a elepahnt is there. To get to the fill part I had fluid taken out and only 5 days after surgery and still sore but the injection was not bad at all. The doctor numb the area so that stick was like a bee sting and then inserted the needle he took out 4 cc from my band. I know for me I'm going to go really slow on my fills because the pain you will get from getting stuck liquids is AWFUL... and I'm sure solids will be just as bad if not worse. When you get your fill make sure you drink alot to make sure it goes down and no pain while you are in the office. Good luck to you and 10 lbs is just the beginning...

  9. I was banded in Charlottesville, Va. I dont think this was the Dr's doing's because I did have the barium swallow the day after and before we went home. I could swallow the barium so I think there was additional swelling, because I did feel the restriction getting worse everyday til even a sip of water hurt going down. My husband was also banded the same day and he was drinking as much as allowed without any problems.

  10. Thanks for the advice. I did have to break down and call the doctor again today. He met me in the office on a Sunday which is hard to believe... My band was way to tight, he took out 4 cc of my 10 cc band. When they but the band on I thought it was empty for a 6 weeks but Dr. T told me that he always add a little but that was a lot... He was a little shocked that he got out 4 cc and he said that there was probably more. Well since then I have been able to drink water and broth and no pain (yohoo). One good thing I learned is that the fills aren't bad ad all and not to get a fill late in the week. I was not the only patient he was seeing on a Sunday there was also someone that had been banded for a year that had a fill on friday and not able to eat anything without major pain.

  11. My surgery was also om 1/11/11. It has been awful to say the least. I did have a hernia that the doctor fixed while doing the surgery so maybe that is most of my problems. I have a hard time drinking anything it grugles and just hangs and then the pain comes. I walk alot since they tell me that will get rid of the gas. I did break down and call the nurse because the pain got really bad after drinking water yesterday, and oh well you just have to ride it out. My husband did the band with me and we both agree this has been verrrry rough. Hope tommorrow is better. I still cant get down 64 oz. I'm trying to make myself drink one sip every 5 minutes. I haven't found many people on here that have been helpful and I wish that the doctors had pre surgery along with post surgery support groups. Good Luck Stephanie.

  12. I can only hope that in 6 months I will be posting a 70lb weight loss. I will be banded on 1-11-11. Any good suggestions to pass on other than watch what you eat. I have been reading were some got banded and eat what they want but only in a smaller portion due to the band and the weight is just coming off.

  13. I agree that you should just follow the directions of your doctor. I know it is different and varies doctor to doctor. However, he know your medical history and will be able to give you the best advice. I did have a few regrets those first few days on liguids. It did pass. Now it is just a blurry memories. However, I am now 5 months out and have loss 53 lbs....no regrets. I was better after I could add the "mushy" foods and move on to real food. Good luck to both your husband and you!

Thanks for all the well wishes. It is exciting but you cant help but be a little nervous. Do you find you really are restricted to certain foods or has the smaller portions help you lose the weight. How about exercise do you work out daily?

  14. I have the same problem. I have been told so many different things and what I read is also different. My husband and I will both be banded 1/11/2011... We started the liquid diet today 1/3/2011 just to get a start on weight loss and to cut back on the things we will have to give up for a few months (coffee, soda's etc.). Our physician said it was up to us on wether we do the liquid diet before. Dr. Trahan usually doesn't require this unless you are over 50 bmi which neither of us are. This is just day 1 so hope we both can continue the liquid boost Hi protein during the day and a sensible dinner at night for 8 days...:o
