Feeling the Pain ...

Well, just had my second fill and not liking the feeling much -- guess i should wait a few days to really judge but I can hardly eat anything without feeling pain -- no likey. I have been losing at a steady 2 pounds a week so I am pleased, but not happy about feeling so hungry and then hardly a few bites of food and feeling pain -- not satisfaction that is for sure. I guess part of the process of getting used to adjustments -- I'm trying to be patient, and it is good to know that I'm not alone in this journey.

Did your dr put you on a special diet after the fill? Mine always did 2 days liquid, 2 days protein shakes, 2 days puree, 2 days soft foods and then regular foods after EACH fill so it took a total of 7 days to adjust or allow the swelling to go down after each and every fill. Sometimes you know as soon as the fill is done that you cannot tolerate liquids and then you need some taken out. Every dr works differently but that is how my dr works so I knew when I hit my sweet spot and then didn't get any more fills actually until I hit my goal..only once did I get too much and had to have some taken out..that was when I knew the previous amount really was my sweet spot and should not have gotten any more put in. Yes, it is hard to figure all of this out and everyone is so different so you cannot compare everyone because what worked exactly for me may not work for you. I wish you the very best!!

I have to sip water before I leave the office to make sure no issues. The only diet I have after a fill is 24 hours without meat, pasta and bread. Try drinking a hot liquid like tea. coffee, hot chocolate, or cider, as hot as you can stand it, 15 min before you eat. The hot liquid helps relax your band but not so much that you eat too much. Sometimes it works for me and sometimes it doesn't. There is probably some swelling due to the fill. It's common at first. When I go a while between fills it happens to me. I haven't had a fill since the beginning of December so I expect there to be swelling when I finally do get a fill if I need one. I am not rushing out to get a fill because one day I can eat everything that isn't nailed down but the next day I would be tight as a drum.

As a matter of fact, the last fill I got I was really tight for about 8 days before it started to ease up just a tad. Sometimes it just takes a little time.

I'm glad to hear other people with the same issue as I have. It seems every time I get a fill I swell so much nothing goes down. I just had another fill 3 weeks ago and I am finally able to get a few bites in then I am in pain. My doctor did remove some but left in .25cc's. All I could get down for two weeks was a bottle of water but it would take all day to get that in me. Now that I can only eat a few bites at a sitting I was guessing this is what they call a good fill. I still don't like the pain that goes along with the eating but if I am losing weight I am happy. It just really makes it hard to have energy to work out.

I really can relate to the pain and it is no fun. I know everyone wants to loose weight but the band as my doctor tells me "isn't suppose to be used for punishment:" . You should be able to eat without having major pain from just a few bites. I lived with it for a week and couldn't stand the pain anymore and the hunger so I had fluid taken out of my band. I haven't lost a pound in 3 weeks and go back 2/23/10 for a fill. Not sure how much if any. This is really alot harder for me than others. My husband also got the band the same day and he is doing so good. He has loss 40lbs in 3 weeks. He doesn't get hungry so he eats and makes really good choices and only east a small amount. I stay hungry and still make good choices but havent loss but 8lbs and that was the first week after surgery. OH well hope it gets better..

Isn't it odd that everyones doctor prescribes different things for the same surgery that everyone has had. My doctor said I stay on clear liquids for 24 hours after my fills and the next 24 hours mushy foods and then back to normal. Today I had my 3rd fill and I total 3.5 cc. I certainly hope this stops me from being so darn hungry. I lost 3 pounds in 1 month and that is NOT what I thought this would be. I thought it would be more a little faster. At least that 's what is happening to me. Some are losing mega pounds and I dont understand how. I eat good food, not so much, I don't like junk foods, and have even learned to cook better. BUT......I have not lost the weight like I want to. I must admit that I was only to have clear liquids today, but had some noodles slip down while I was eating my chicken broth. It was good and filled me quickly. I hate being on these liquid diets. It just makes me crazy and makes me hungrier. I will try my best to follow the rules though. Best wishes to you and I hope I soon get to a fill that restricts me so I start losing weight better.
