blondeej got a reaction from GreenTealael in 4 yrs post VSG to RNY
Hi. What was your post-op/recovery like VSG versus RNY?
Oddly, I am seeing more people say their recovery from RNY was easier. I went back to work 3 days after my VSG in 2012. I will be taking 4 weeks off for my revision because I am older now (lol) and because I can (have the work availability to do so) - having a six year old and husband also that I'll still need to care for. I have a desk job and work from home, so am glad I'll be able to return to work in that atmosphere at least.

I went for treatment for my horrible GERD and was told I needed a revision to RNY and was shocked, I did not think that was at all what they were going to say. I am a few weeks out from surgery now. I have researched Barrett's esophagus and the risks of untreated GERD to go on and it's scary. They say it's one of the most painful ways to spend the end of your life with that type of cancer. Try and look at it that way, it's self preservation if not for yourself then your loved ones.

blondeej got a reaction from P.J.Rox in 6 months post op and oh so very stalled
To the OP - you need to rededicate your life to being healthy! and think back to all the reasons you decided to have this surgery in the first place! And why it was worth it you to subject yourself to the pain and suffering of having this major surgery.
Why do you even keep those bad snack foods around the house?? I do NOT keep ANYTHING in my house that will tempt me to go back down that slippery slope of snacking. If I want a snack, it's cheese or nuts or if I am craving salt - some baby pickles or olives.< /p>
You need to set yourself up for SUCCESS, not failure! By having those bad food options around the house - you are laying failure out right in front of you!
You've been so successful thus far - don't let your addiction get the best of you now!!

Stalls SUCK and are mental torture!! LOL
I stalled at week 3 and it lasted for 3 weeks... or something like that. IDK, it's been so long it's hard to remember. But I was pretty traumatized at the time! LOL
Now I am a little over 6 months out and have lost 94 lbs since surgery - 120 all together. I think I am in the midst of my second one - but I mean hey, I can't complain! That type of loss in 6 months is awesome. But I worked for it!
Your scale will start moving again - even though for some people it was impossible to do (like ME!)-- try not to weigh for a week or so - easier said than done, I know.
    I was a certifiable scale wh0re - weighed twice a day - now I weigh about twice a week!
    Best of luck to you!!!

Congratulations on making it through chemo. I understand you may feel this way, but to many women Hair loss is very frightening, and for many WLS patients, it is the first time we have lost ours.

blondeej got a reaction from Looking Ahead in Down 123 in 6 mo but getting concerned..
    Hi Angie-
How I handle it is if I am craving it I have a piece! Simple as that. I didn't have this surgery so I could never eat anything but lean meats for the rest of my life. It's so I can eat what I want, but in moderation.
If I am craving chocolate, I have a small piece, and appease my craving. If I am craving pizza, I have 1/4 of a piece, and be done. I've lost 95 lbs in 6 months since surgery, 120 total.
And google about hormone release with weight loss. Your body has so many crazy hormones going through it now, you're going to have such highs and lows for a very long time until your body regulates! They affect sex drive, depression, mood swings, anger, everything.
You're doing awesome, keep up the good work. And craving things (even things you never craved Pre-op) is nothing to freak out about. Now if you're to the point where you're choking down 2-3 full size candy bars a day- that's a moment for concern! Lol but you seem to be far from that! be kind to yourself, take a deep breath and enjoy your weightless and new found life!

Hit my 6 months on 12/12. My beginning weight was 241 and I'm down to 188.6. Weight loss has been slow, but its coming off. I feel great! I need to get into the gym more. I think the weight would fall off more. I find that I'm losing more inches than pound which is great!

I didn't read all the responses so IDK if anyone has said it yet or not -- but COFFEE!!!!
OMG, it is my saviour!!! I am a little over 6 months post-op and for the first 4 months or so I spent all kinds of money on stool softeners and Fiber gummies and nothing ever worked - little did I know - 2 cups of coffee in the morning - keeps me regular like a clock!!
This doesn't work for all - but it's worth a try!!! It's saved my life. LOL

I'm a month out as of today and I know I should be thrilled with 20 pounds in that time but 13 of it came in the first week. When I was dieting on my own for four months pre-op I was losing 15-17 a month so I guess I expected more quicker. I know I can only blame myself for not going to the gym as often as I need to and not counting my Protein but when I look at what and how much I eat it's hard to believe I'm not losing weight! Went to the DR on Monday and the NUT said that she's noticed the patients who lose a lot before surgery (65 lbs in 4 1/2 months for me) tend to stall or plateau sooner... not that helpful! lol I just want to get my energy back so I can get back in the gym like I was before!
Good to know I'm not the only one who's a little discouraged! However, I know a negative attitude is only going to hurt me... and we obviously have everyone's support here! Go June sleevers!

I lost pretty fast the first week, but since has been slow. Next week will be two months from surgery and I am down around 35 lbs. Not as fast as many of you, but it is what it is. It is coming off and that is what matters.

Stalls suck:(. I'm 51/2 weeks out and lost 30lbs as of this morn, very slow moving as I lost first 20lbs the first 2 weeks... I've come to realize I lose 1lb every 2-3 days... Slow but will be better for my flabby skin in the long run I guess.
