Well we had a major snowstorm here in the Southern Tier of NY with over 4 ft of snow-I think shoveling all day yesterday put me over the top with weight loss lol. I woke up this morning and FINALLY got that scale to move under the 200 lb mark (no stall but just a slow down in the last week or so).
I started a new job a few weeks ago at a factory and adding more hours this last week for Christmas with overtime. I am on my feet with some heavy lifting and physical activity but it's helping with the exercise part. I had gained about a lb a week ago and figured it was for the muscle content with the increased movement to my daily normal activity but now it's going down fast again.
Also marks 100 lb weight loss since program start this year-holy cow! My Dr and hospital scales are all one lb less then my scale-actually down to 197- but who's counting that close? ME, that's who! lol.
I don't think many people outside of this group can understand how much my life has changed and is changing for this surgery. I work and am tired but no excrutiating pain for days after with just a few hours on my feet. Honestly I can bend, move and be fast with productivity at my workplace and feel awesome with a good day of work. I can take a freakin bath!!!! and feel just so skinny! My husband and I have a renewed relationship in all aspects but one aspect not mentioning that has been awesome :-)! Hey, I'm old-not dead lol.
I sit down and have room with my animals able to sit on a lap that I now have and I am able to easily bend to clean the pens, guinea pig areas and even to play with my chihuahuas or walk with my family. It's just surreal how different and wonderful I feel. Oh I have my precious Holland Lop bunnies that are basically free roam and 9 guinea pigs rescued. I clean constantly and able to do that on top of work with really no problems.
40 more lbs to go. My birthday was Jan 21 of this year- I turned 48 and hit an unbelievable depression. I truly hated myself as the scale approached 300 lbs and I couldn't even walk. That's what spurred the research for medical weight loss and was able to start the program a month later-changed my life!! So grateful!
I now wear a size 16/18-holy cow! Last year I barely fit a size 28.

During the first few weeks I kept reminding myself that I am healing - you literally have stitches holding your stomach together. That visual helped me be 100% on plan for the first 6+ weeks since it isn't just about trying to lose weight - it's about allowing your body to heal from something that's physically pretty traumatic. Good news is the body is an amazing thing!

I am about 10 lbs from goal, so I decided to splurge on some nicer tops since 1- you can only see my tops on my work video conference calls and 2- I don't think I am going to go down another size.
NSV 1: I'm in a freaking MEDIUM! at 5'10 - holy cow!!! And this isn't a "in specific loose cut tops I can squeeze into a medium" - I ordered a bunch of nice work tops and I fit into ALL the mediums.
NSV 2: I bought a pair of knee high boots. They are wide calf, but a narrow wide calf if that makes sense. My legs have always been where I carry a lot of my weight so I've never really been able to wear true knee high boots. They fit perfect (even over pants) and they look GREAT!

I was eating purees at day 3 as well. However, I was told 2 oz max at that time (the first few days I didn't get in my 2 oz at my "meal" times). I'd check with your surgeon or nutritionist as what you are eating may be fine, you just might need to do less.
  5. Thanks

You also want to make sure they do their own closures. A lot of surgeons have their assistants help close. In my opinion if youโ€™re paying a PS for surgery then you should get a PS closure. The one I went with does his own Closures and on the really long cases if he has help itโ€™s one of his PS doctors he works in the group with.

loridee11 reacted to catwoman7 in What was the best question you asked during consults?
I mostly just listened to their thoughts and ideas, but I would plan on doing 3-5 consults if you can, because you may hear different ideas on how to do things from different surgeons. I did four consults - one with a well-known surgeon in Mexico (but I decided to have it done stateside instead, even though it was a lot more expensive), and three in my region. The first two in my region whom I talked to had such different ideas on how to approach it that I decided to get another consult to see if it was a tie breaker. So I went to a guy who's known to be pretty expensive, but is nationally known in working with massive weight loss patients. Before going, I really never seriously planned to go with him because of the cost, but I knew I would respect his opinion. Well, his opinion was the same as surgeon #2, so I knew that was probably the way to go - but I ended up going with the expensive expert anyway, because his estimate wasn't really that much more than the other two (and most of the extra cost was due to the fact that he'll only do his in a regular hospital, whereas the others do them at outpatient surgical centers, and he also makes you spend the night at the hospital to make sure you're OK to go home, whereas the other two send you home at the end of the day. I preferred to spend the night in the hospital, *just in case*).
I don't know if there's anything I would necessarily ask each one about - although questions did come up at each consult (not always the same questions), but check pictures if they have them - and if they don't have them at their office, check their Web sites for pictures (but keep in mind they're only likely to post their best work). With the body lift pictures, be sure to notice belly buttons. Belly buttons are supposedly tough to get right, so if the person does good belly buttons, that's often a good sign.
as someone else implied, some surgeons will recommend you to wait 6-12 months after your weight is stabilized to have plastic surgery. It's probably not a bad idea because unfortunately, a majority of us seem to have a 10-20 lb rebound after we hit our lowest weight. Although I did spend that time doing a lot of research on surgeries and surgeons, and creating my "short list" of surgeons I wanted to do my consults with...

I'm getting ready to start having consults for a full body lift and arm lift. I will probably try for a June date (I am hoping to hit goal in January) but finding a surgeon and then coordinating time with work will take some time. I have a good start for what I want to ask during consults, but thought I'd check with the veterans.
What question did you ask that really helped you get an insight into your surgeon and helped you select? Maybe you didn't ask, but one surgeon volunteered something you wish you'd thought to ask? Anything you didn't ask that you wished you had? Thanks in advance!

Like many, I've lost a TON of hair as part of this journey. In August, at 7 months out, I cut it to a long bob which helped, but as it started to grow out it quickly became scraggly and looked very fine. SO I did a major cut this week taking it to a long pixie (almost 10.5 months out) I am super happy at what a difference it made in appearance - parts of it are almost back to normal density with regrowth. Now if it only stops falling out and I can keep what I have.

I'm almost 1 year out from Bypass and was just thinking about this today.
With the exception of LOTS of sugar (I had 2 early dumping episodes and have been really good at staying away from it for the most part) I can eat anything. Any, I can eat a "regular" portion (not as much as before but I really over ate before). I rarely get that full/stuffed feeling (I try very hard not to eat a bunch most of the time, but on occasion my head gets the better of me and I fall back into old eating patterns for a day).
What I have noticed is: I physically don't NEED to eat that much. Before surgery, I would have been physically hungry pretty much all the time unless I was stuffed full. Now, I can eat a Protein Shake and coffee for Breakfast, then 5-6 oz of food for lunch and dinner and be physically satisfied.
So for me, that means now that I am further out I need to put more focus on the headwork (to get the last 15 lbs off and to be in a good state to maintain).
