  1. You have to make sure you are ready. Please wait if you aren't. I know I was not or wouldn't have been ready at 18. I think I just became ready to do it at 28 and I've been fat since I was 17 or 18, started really towards the end of highschool. You need to be ready to change your eating habits, be ready to exercise and have willpower. If I wasn't ready to turn my life around this would not be working for me. It's a lifelong thing you're doing. It won't be a few months and you don't have to do anything.
  2. The first six weeks are about healing. It's normal for you to stop losing also changing from liquids to mushies. I lost nothing weeks 2-5 post op. Been losing steadily (relatively) ever since. Also you say you have 60# to lose, don't be discouraged that you'll probably lose slower than someone with 100+ pounds to lose
  3. I was told to eat 3 meals, no snacking. But since the beginning I found that I could not get in the calories that way. So I do what works for me and have a couple light snacks, usually a WW string cheese and a fiber one bar
  4. Not sure if you have a pre op diet or not. But if you don't, I still wouldn't go too crazy on the pig out fest. Because your liver could get really fatty and pit you at risk for them to knick it during surgery.
  5. I was gonna say, I've tried on stuff at target and their sizes are sooo small. I won't buy any clothes there because I don't want to get the bigger sizes, even though I know they run small. I'm in a large top (occasionally XL) but I bought a light hoodie from target and it's an XL and it's still kind of tight on me. I bought it a number of months ago, and I'm pissed at myself for getting it.
  6. I don't think you necessarily need to stay with someone. My mom was with me at the hospital and stayed with me a few hours after I got home, then she went home and she did come by a few hours the next day, but I didn't need her or anything. I have two dogs and was able to walk them fine and everything. So if you really want, but I was fine by myself.
  7. I think your green zone is just that YOUR zone. Everyones is different. Some people want to be so tight they can't eat much, some people want just to feel less hungry. Me I just want to feel a little less hungry between meals. In no way shape or form do I want eating to be uncomfortable. If you are uncomfortable eating, I would think you're to tight. That's just me though
  8. Stop! I think pasta right now is probably the worst thing you could be cheating with! Go back to your docs post op plan. If the rest of us can do it, you can too! Please, you just had this surgery and the sutures need to heal prior to you eating like that. Just so you don't feel to bad, I too cheated on like day 11 (new years eve). But I felt bad and went back to the plan. If you're truly hungry (I wasn't I just wanted it ) drink more.
  9. You can go out to eat, you'll just eat less. Last night I had a CE dinner with work. There was a buffet. I took some salad, some meat, a little pasta, and I did have a piece of bread (which I probably should have skipped. That's the first time I had a buffet dinner like that and I think I did awesome! Did not go back up. Though I did treat myself to a small piece of this pie/cake thing. I didn't like how I felt after that. So I learned I will skip that next time. But it's a learning process to know what to do. So yeah, you can go out to eat just fine.
  10. Averaging my weight loss like that put things in perspective for me. I've been feeling like a slow loser. I subtracted my pre op diet weight loss and averaged my weight loss since surgery. I'm averaging 1.5# per week. Which made me feel ecstatic! Like you have had weeks where I lost nothing and weeks 2-5 post op I also lost nothing, but it all evens out in the end.
  11. From what I've heard they are supposed to go by your initial weigh in. So if you lose weight and go under a bmi of 40 they should still use the initial one.
  12. Am I afraid of failing, yeah. But I made a decision before surgery. I was going to change my life. I was extremely depressed and I told myself do this or there is nothing left. I'm happy I did because though the band is helping me a tiny bit, I'm doing the majority of this on my own. I'm hungry but not really sure if I want a fill because I'm losing fine because I'm sticking to a way of eating I believe the reason I am sticking to it is because I've changed my mindset. I'm not doing this because my mom's garrassing me. In doing this because I want to do it, and each pound lost makes me that much happier. So am I afraid of failing a little, but it's not going to happen because I won't let it.
  13. So just a quick back story. Banded 12/20. Had restriction for the first 4 months or so, decided to get my first fill in may. I was still losing but feeling hungrier. Though I did not give in and eat more. The fill was only 0.75 cc. Initially I felt good back to where I had been. That only lasted a week or two. I've been hungry again, again not giving in. I'm still losing, in fact last couple weeks have been really god. I've discovered if I mix a day or two of eating less than 1000 calories in during the week I lose a lot better. So my question is do I get a fill? I'm not looking for the band to tell me I can't have a piece of bread (though I don't eat it often). I want opinions if I should get it just to control the hunger. Though usually drinking a bunch of Water calms it down. And like I said even though it is there I stay within my calories.
  14. The first 6 weeks are about healing. It is normal to gain when you switch from liquids to mushies, pureés, whatever. I weigh daily, usually many times. It's a sickness...lol. However, I have a weigh in day on Thursday. This is the only day I write the number down or change my ticker. You have daily fluctuations, you weigh more in the evening. It can drive you crazy if you let it.
  15. If they're colored but the consistency of water that's fine. I don't think they make any truly clear protein drinks.
  16. I'm not really worried about the scanner, since it's not technically an x-ray, it can't see inside your body so it should not be able to detect your lap band. It should only outline your body. I'm hoping I'll pass through security without a hitch. When I was flying a couple years ago, I got pulled out of line for a random pat down. I wanted to say, do I look like a terrorist, but I figured that wouldn't be a good idea, so I sucked it up and moved on.
  17. When you're hungry, drink drink drink. It helps me a lot. I'm almost 7 months out and I've had one small fill. Fills do not make you lose weight. Only you can do that. Am I hungry between meals, yes I am. But I'm still not sure if I want another fill. I'm losing weight fine, because I know what I have to do and I know I have to do it. Am I gonna Lise 100# in a year, no. But Water can keep me satisfied to an extent, so I'm wondering if I really should get a fill. So drink when you feel hungry. I know this may seem hard since you may still be on liquids or mushies, but it helps. Though I wasn't hungry during my liquid stage, so I can't say for sure if it will help on that stage. But remember fills do not equal weight loss. Only you can control that.
  18. I've flown a couple times not buckled. Just put my sweatshirt over my lap with the belt going under it to pretend I was. I too was embarrassed. I hate to say it, but if a plane crashes, a belt is not gonna save you. Last time I flew it fit but I think there was only a tiny bit of room. I'm flying in 3 weeks and I'm hoping for plenty of space since I'm sown like 30# since the last time. I'm hoping I'll fit more comfy in the seat as well. The thing I'm worried about is security. I know it's gotten tighter since I last flew and I'm going through JFK a major airport. I'd heard about now terrorist are implanting things in them. If for some reason I get a pat down or something and they feel my port. It's easily felt, what's gonna happen? Should I ask my surgeon for a note just in case? I have an appointment next week. It kind of concerns me
  19. As njm said above "the band is what you make of it". That is perfectly true. You'll get out of it what you put in. I feel if you work at it, there's no reason to not get into a normal bmi. I got the band because I was against any procedure that altered my insides at all, any cutting involved. The band is helping to an extent, but I believe surgery itself gave me the kick in the ass I needed to say, hey I really need to do this. So do what you want, but it seems your surgeon does not like the band that much, it seems he's pushing you towards the other two since he likes them better
  20. I fly once or twice a year and was always uncomfortable. Last time I didn't need a seatbelt extender, but was still uncomfortable in my seat. I'm going to Florida in 3 weeks and I hope to be a bit more comfy, but for some reason the fat does not want to leave my ass, so it is still kind of big
  21. Sorry licensed veterinary technician. Basically a nurse for animals
  22. It depends on you, I was back on day 7 and I have a physical job. On my feet 10 hours or more, bending, kneeling. I'm an LVT. I had minimal pain though, only lasted like 2 days. So it depends on your pain tolerance. Oh and yes I had a hiatal hernia repair as well.
  23. Dermabnod is tough. Mine started peeling off the incisions at like 14 days or so. I had to literally scrape the glue surrounding my incisions off with my fingernail after like 3 weeks. My imcisions healed pretty well. One got a slight superficial infection, but a couple days of TAB and a band aid cleared it up. Though it's weird when I use my abs doing pushups and stuff that one gives a dull twinge every so often
  24. My stomach made a ton of noises in the beginning. It's gotten a lot less but still makes noises on occasion. Other then actual stomach rumbling hunger.
  25. That's cool! I love Pawn Stars! I'll keep watching to see him shrink. Lol
