    September 2010 -

This is approx 3 1/2 months post surgery. I have lost about 38 lbs at this point so as a reward to myself, I went and got my hair done! :-)
  3. Melissa...I am so sorry I just got this! I have not been on here in several weeks...I am going to TRY to start coming back on here more often because it is such a help to read what other people are going through and know that I'm not alone.

How did your surgery go? Have you had your first fill yet? Would love to hear more about you and your story. TTYS...Helen

  4. Hey there! I have been SOOOO bad and not been on here in forever! Just TONS of stuff going on in my personal life. I am going to try to start logging back in and keeping up with people. I think it would really help me with the whole weight loss thing and keep me on track. How are you???

  5. I'm in Rockledge and my surgery will be with Dr. Fusco after my insurance approval. Just thought I would find people in my area. Thanks, Melissa

  6. Hey girl, haven't seen you on June Bugs in a while so wanted to check in on you. You doing good? Hope so. Check in with us, we do miss our old (ha ha) friends

  7. Like so many others, VERY glad I found this thread! I just talked to my RN and this is what she told me --- it can last 2 -3 weeks on average and for some people, even longer. The first 2 - 3 weeks is due to gas being trapped, drinking/eating too much, eating/drinking too fast, cold versus hot, and so on. It appears there is a long list of things that can cause issues with the diaphragm area which is where the pain is actually coming from. I have read several things on here about "reflective pain" and that is what she was explaining to me. I did find that if I sip warm liquids instead of taking what I consider a normal swallow of something, I don't have the pain as much or as bad. Not sure this helps but that's my two cents on the issue. :tongue2:
  8. Thanks for the photo comment !

  9. Gwen...yes, it is work to get in the 64 oz but I am doing pretty good so far. Yesterday I wasn't feeling good but still managed to get in about 50 ozs...not as much as they would like but I figure one day of being a few ozs below is ok. No protein yet. My doc puts you on water and sugars the first week...all clear liquids like jello, crystal lite, etc. I am drinking K2O though so I am getting sugar and protein. Protein diet starts Friday. :-)

  10. im glad to hear ur doing so well. i have been hearing on here about how new banded ppl are suffering from bringing every thing they eat back up. i wish i was banded up already. i still have to set up an appointment for the nutritionist and phych evaluation. blah seems like its taking forever, then if i dont get approved by my insurance im gonna be so bummed

  11. Hello, how's it going?? I'm sooo excited n nervous!! I get banded on wednes(9th)...is it hard getting to drink 64oz n get ur protein in and still lose weight?? Keep me posted and i'll do the same...i would love to know how everything went!!! Thanx n good night...ms.gwen

    Any June Bandsters???

Chillax...I felt the same way! BUT...after talking to a few people on here and talking to the RN that I worked with on all my pre-op and post-op instructions, I have found that I will be able to eat pretty much anything I want. Certain foods like celery (which I love), apple skins and things like that are a no no due to the size of the stoma. Other than that, I can eat whatever I want as long as I chew-chew-chew! The big thing is, like with any "diet", we have to be careful what we eat due to nutrition requirements. My nurse told me that if I want pizza, have pizza! But only 1 slice and not every day. Occasionally having pizza or lasagna or even the rare piece of chocolate cake is not a problem. It all has to due with portion size and moderation. Use those "favorite foods" as rewards or special occasions rather than the norm. I am totally psyched about this journey and can't wait to see the pounds falling off. The fact that I am not experiencing hunger yet probably helps the attitude though. lol
  13. Hi there! So far so good! I have had some pain in my shoulder and chest area from the gas...the chest pain feels like an intense pressure. No real issues though to speak of. Like most, I have some tenderness around the port but nothing severe. I have not had any real "hunger" pains yet and am quiet content with the liquid diet. I am on day 4 (I was banded 6/4) and I am back at work today. I have a desk job so it makes it really easy. :-)

Anything you want to know, please ask.

    Any June Bandsters???

Liberty...Glad to hear things are progressing smoothly for you! I am so happy to hear about the diet you are on! I was beginning to think I am the ONLY person on this site who is on that strict of a diet...lol My doc has be doing the same thing. This 1st week is clear liquids and sugars (the RN said this is where my energy will come from). So I drink water, eat jello, drink water, have a juice, drink vitamin water, etc etc. I can't have anything else until this coming Friday---my 1 week mark! At that point I get to have sugar free pudding, protein shakes and a few other "mushy" items. Week 3 is when I get to have things like mashed potatoes, veggies I can mash with a fork, etc. It is strange how the diet varies from doctor to doctor though. I like the idea of eating pudding, etc at this stage (I had my surgery Friday) but at the same time, I really don't have a "want" for it yet. I am staying well hydrated and feel fine...no hunger issues yet! Hopefully this will continue. I cannot wait to get down to where I can actually shop in the "cute" section and buy clothes that I love...not ones that hide and camoflauge my fat! lol Good luck to us all!!!
