I use a product called "Dimmers", believe it or not, my 21 yr old granddaughter bought them for me. They work in any bra and keep the "high beams" from shining:)

Could be a hernia, but since they don't cut the muscle to attach the port, it's unlikely. During surgery once the band is in place, the tubing is cut to length, and the port end placed near the desired port placement point. There is a small incision to insert the port, attach port to the rectus muscle facia and attach the tubing. There could be a small hematoma in the area or as you suggested, scar tissue. I'd wait and see.

Wearing the mask is a lot more comfortable than laying in a casket. Think about it before you decide not to wear your cpap.

Baba Wawa got a reaction from cat whisperer in pre op "cheat" ?
With the wide variety of pre-op and post-op diets and food progressions required, you should still follow your doctor's orders. The most important part of the preop low carb diet is avoiding carbohydrates. The chicken cheat was fine, the potato, not ok. Low carb reduces glycogen on the surface of the liver, making it easier to hold up and out of the way (it's over your stomach) so the surgeon can access the stomach. Glycogen is slippery and as the name implies is derived from carbs (glycemic). If the liver slips out of the instrument, the surgery CANNOT be done laparoscopically.
Many of the same people we see posting about cheating on the preop diet, end up posting that they cheated on the postop diet...there is a connection. Many "test" their bands, eat slider foods, graze and wonder why they're not losing. It's very important to understand that WLS requires a permanent lifestyle change. To succeed you must adopt these changes willingly, accept that you should never eat the way you did as an obese person and commit to these changes permanently. There's a saying, "If you want to look like a thin person, you need to eat like a thin person." The band supports that by keeping hunger pangs away between meals. You control how much you eat...
As a successful banded person who is most likely losing my band very soon, due to an autoimmune disorder, I can tell you, it works, but only if you use it properly. Like any other tool, if you leave out one component, it will not help you...imagine an electric saw you don't plug in...not much good. You are the power source for your tool.

I personally think that your medical team needs to be fired. Barium, food or Water retained in the esophagus isn't normal under any circumstances.

Unfilling a bit, reduces the pressure. You might lose better with less. I still go 4-5 hours without hunger and my band is just sitting there like a loose ring on a finger. It takes me forever to eat, I drink Perrier with meals, cause it helps to open the LES, and still get the hunger dimming response.

That's what I thought was happening. It's the LES that won't open, in that situation. The band doesn't and can't get tighter and looser just randomly. It can seem to tighten over time due to scar tissue, but won't loosen. The only way it can feel like that is the lower esophageal sphincter failing to open in response to swallowing. Mine was intermittent and progressed to constant over a few months. If barium is just trickling through the STOMA, then you most definitely need an unfill ASAP. That might resolve your esophageal issues with just a part of the Fluid removed.
It's the back pressure from the band that causes nerve damage at the gadtroesophageal junction. Even eating exactly as told, the pressure occurs. Banding is a high pressure system, as is vsg. More GI doctors are recommending esophageal manometry pre-op, since there is a growing consensus that the intolerance to the band can be predicted and those pts given different options for surgery.
Have you ever felt stuck on Water or even yogurt? It's not your band stopping it. Fickle bands, first bite syndrome, getting "stuck" on soft foods and liquids are all signs of a potential problem. When so many report these things happening, it looks like a normal part of banded life, but it's not. It's a warning sign.

If you had just 2 oz barium and it was in your esophagus, that's an esophagus problem. It can lead to major problems in a short period of time. Please read my blog post "History" paying attention to the time between last June and present. I'm not trying to scare you, but save you from my experience. I belong to a band complications group on FB which has several members with this history. There is a phenomenon called psuedoachalasia, which usually occurs with underlying disease, but is occurring quite often in banded patients and is a relatively new development. I have what appears to be end stage achalasia, 0% muscle activity shown on manometry, but I'm hoping with my band removed, will resolve. I've been told to expect treatment ranging from feeding tube for 6 weeks to allow the esophagus to rest and regain some motility to removal of my esophagus. It's not something to mess around with.

Baba Wawa got a reaction from ☠carolinagirl☠ in Major complications.... Forceful vomiting the past few days....
Call your doctor the minute you read this. Vomiting to the extent you describe isn't good under any circumstances, let alone with a band. Also, just because you had only one adjustment does not mean you can't be too tight. Everyone is different. Some people don't need fills at all. You could have a slip with prolapse and have part of your stomach that isn't getting circulation and necrotizing. Vomiting is NEVER "normal" with wls.

It's a sign that something is wrong, not necessarily that your band is too tight, but that you may have eaten a bit too much, too fast or didn't chew enough. If it happens a lot or appears to be getting worse, you need to see your band doctor.

Baba Wawa got a reaction from marlena_marie in How do you decide?
Read everything you can, complications, successes and in between. In the end it is your choice. We are a community of people who found themselves linked by a common problem, obesity. As we move along in our journeys, we are all focused on our goal and may choose different paths to get there. I chose the band. I was successful, losing 65% of my excess weight, 90 + lb. I am also unsuccessful, since I have some serious complications which have caused me a lot of stress, pain and disappointment, at least a dozen diagnostic tests in the last year and I need at least one more surgery, maybe 2. I was compliant. That's no guarantee.
This is a big decision, so don't be in a rush. The fact you've been losing steadily since December is significant. 5 months of success is nothing to sneeze at. It means you've made some major lifestyle changes that can be permanent if you choose to continue to eat healthy and exercise. You might be one of the few people who are successful at diet and lifestyle changes, just as I am one of the few people who have Lapband surgery are compliant and still develop major complications through no fault of their own.
