mickeybeyes reacted to larky2007 in Free Lap Band Contest Finalist Voting!!
Hello everyone! I already posted this in Introductions, I think, but I don't want to give up I am in a contest to win a free lap band surgery. I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Sydrome) and as many of you ladies may know, it is extremly hard to lose weight with that. My syndrome also prevents me from having children at this time, I break out alot and I grow hair in strange places lol. Not only that my weight has affected me in my career path as well. I am a musical theatre person and singing and acting are my life. But I am restricted in the roles that I auditon for as well as the roles that I recieve. I desperatly want to change that. I applied for a contest to get a free lap band and much to my surprise I became a finalist. But, now I need help I would appreciate if you all could take the time to vote for me! You can do this by going to http://www.obesitynomorefl.com/contest.php and click my name, Erica S to read more about me! I also made a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en_1AFtrPqc&list=HL1365473846&feature=mh_lolz so that you all can learn more about me and hear from me personally! I made an event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/342059355893736/347717905327881/?comment_id=347922315307440&notif_t=event_mall_reply so that you can invite your family and friends to vote for me too. It will only take you 5 seconds to add at least 5 more years to my life <3 Thank you all SO very much! <3

Carbonation is the only absolute no
...though swallowing glass would probably be frowned upon too.

My doctor told me to feel it when I went in for my first post op visit. Until then I hadn't really tried because I am a big baby and was afraid. I could feel it right away without pushing down. Of course I got woozy the first time and it took me a bit before I felt it again but now I find myself feeling it a lot. Tried to get kids and parents to feel it but no takers.....lol.

I live in Utah, I don't believe it is legal to feel your own port...

Remember like some other things in life, ladies it isn't how big it is, it is what you do with it that matters. Mine is a huge 10cc

So two weeks in and all is going great. I had minimal pain & discomfort, was even being dragged around the mall 2 days later. One week of liquid only was NBD, same with mushies. They keep telling me my appetite will come back but it has not, in fact, I have very little desire to eat. I am still drinking two of my meals every day and what I do eat I do not finish. Probably only averaging 6-800 calories a day, with 80-90g of Protein. Not sure about actual weight loss as I will not be a scale watcher. I had a doc visit one week post-op and I was down 7 pounds from pre-surgery weigh in. My next appointment is on the 20th, that will be the next time I get on a scale. I am suppose to get my first fill then but not sure if I need it. That being said I do know this, my clothes are definitely starting to fit differently. My pants are probably 2 sizes too big and shirts are fitting more comfortably.
In other words, things are going great and wanted to share.

mickeybeyes reacted to NJHAZMAT in My restrictor plate is in!
In NASCAR, a restrctor plate is placed in a carburetor to restrict the flow of air thus reducing the rate of fuel burn. This makes the race car go slower.
In the lapband world, the band is a restrictor plate of sorts, in that it restricts the amount of food that can be eaten, thus making us lose weight.
I choose to call it my restrictor plate. It sounds more manly. Tools tinkering etc. I feel it's apart of accepting my new way of life.
How have you made your lapband acceptable in your life?

Well people who need their bands removed most likely 1 over ate and caused their band to erode 2 didnt follow the rules and had to have their band removed. Band erosion or strangulation as you call it is caused from over eating and pushing the band into the stomach wall causing it to erode into the stomach. Most erosion comes from not following the rules, keeing your band too tight. I have had mine for 3 years and not one complication. People like you try to scare people about having the band because in all reality it is only 1 percent of all patients that have the band removed because of complications.

Plus it is only your first fill so you are unlikely to experience restriction just yet. It usually takes a number of fills.
But you are on your way!

I had my first fill today also. My PA was going to but 4cc in my 10cc band but the Water wasn't moving good so she reduced it to 3cc. Needles don't bother me, but seeing how long that needle was was a little disheartning. It bothered the people I told more than me. Good Luck on the next part of our journey.

I can't believe it's been 1 year since I had my surgery. I've lost 63 pounds and feel incredible. No complications, other than needing 1/4 cc removed due to being too tight. I'm thrilled with my results!!!!

Mine also required 6 months and it ended up being 9 months. I was discouraged when I was first told, but it flew by. Just hang in there and jump through those hoops. Before you know it you will be banded. Good luck. :-)

LOL! I'm glad you talked to your doctor. If its not better in a week I would suggest going into the office for an appointment.
I am not on the pill but my period was a bit wacky the few months after surgery too. It would come really late or be short. Now things are back to normal. All those meds and change of diet can mess with your hormones.

Well today is my 3 year bandaverary. No i am not ay goal 25 lbs away. But I have had so many accomplishments in the past three years. Who would have thought i would ever bike a 1/2 marathon and the icing on the cake was i finish ahead of many of 20somethings. I made a new years resolution and have already accomplished it. (spin class). Three years ago i couldn't have done those things. I fit in places more comfortably like booths at a resturant. I ask for things done the way i want them in resturants and get them like how things are cooked, substitutions and my famous please give me a doggy bag when you give me my food. And no i don't care where we go to eat cause food isn't that important to me. I am no longer or will ever be part of the clean plate club. Color is part of my clothes choice. My pressure is down and only take 1 med. for it. This carb girl doesn't miss rice or Pasta or so much bread. It has and still is a journey. We have all had our ups and downs. So if you ask me am I happy with my decision 3 yrs ago i can totally say yes. Good luck on your journey may you all be happy with your decision. Thanks for listining.

The head, oh how it messes with us! If only we could band the head, things would be so much easier.
But, we can't. we have to learn to deal with the head hunger. Are we physically hungry or not. What works for me is when I have that question I will drink a glass of Water, if I still feel hungry after the Water I will go ahead and have a snack, but 9 times out of 10 I am not hungry.
There is no easy fix for the head, sorry.
