May 10-14 2010 Bandsters
They didn't tell me to do the citrate stuff- I haven't gone in a few day's though, so maybe I should. My only instructions was no jewlery, lotion, or polish- Wash my stomach the night before and morning of, with a soap they gave me, and don't eat after midnight.

May 10-14 2010 Bandsters
I have to be at the hospital at 9am tomorrow. I'm kind-of starting to freak out. I'm not really nervous about the surgery- I'm worried about the after part. Wondering if I am really going to be able to stay away from the foods that have controlled (and ruined) my life. I just hope I am not putting too much faith on the band. My will power is zilch, so it's got it's work cut out for it. Hopefully, like any addiction, the urge to eat will lessen with time. Either way, I'm going to give it my all!!! Congratulations to all of those that have been banded this week. And GOOD LUCK to my fellow Friday Bandsters!!

Man you suck! Lol- I am jealous- Just know, while you are getting your surgery, I will be on the couch having a panic attack! Ha ha- Waiting is my least favorite thing to do- It always makes me freak out more than actually being there. Best of luck to you!!!!

Average cost of a lap band
A lot pf people have the pre-conceived stereotypical notion that the facility in Mexico may not be as clean as it would be here. From what I have heard, the facilities are extremely clean, and the doctors have been doing it longer than the ones here. Someone had said that the doctor's office there even provided transportation to and from the hospital. Perhaps, if you found out more about it, and shared your information with your wife, she would be more open minded about it. One thing you need to consider, however, is that if you go there to have the surgery, the cost won't include your fills. You would have to set up a doctor locally, that would be willing to take care of the post-op care for you. With the $15,500 I paid, although a butt load of money, everything is covered for the first year. Even of they have to replace the port, or remove the band (God forbid)- Lots of things to think about! Best of luck making your decision )

That was super sweet of you! I would say you deserve a cookie, but..... LoL- I'm sure the guy really appreciates it, and I am a big believer in Karma- What time is your surgery scheuled?? I have to be there at 10:30- I wish it was earlier in the day (Like 7ish) cause I know I'm gonna wake up early as crap (if I can even sleep the night before) and sit here freaking out until 10- Good luck with the magnesium citrate :lol:/ That stuff makes me puke. LoL-

Average cost of a lap band
Yeah- I bet they don't pay NEAR what self pay customers do. It may be cheaper for you to fly somewhere else to have it done- Well... It WOULD be cheaper elsewhere. Have you considered that at all? I hear Mexico is sometimes less that 5k. It's 15,500 here, and less than that in other states. I would just research it, find the cheapest (but clean) place, and do it that way.

May 10-14 2010 Bandsters
Hey yall- I'm getting banded May 14- I'm on a low carb, high protein diet~ So far, it's going good. It's hard as crap to find low carb food! I went through the grocery store, looking at all of the nutritional facts. It's crazy. I never realized it before!! So, I had to fork out extra $ for steak, chicken, and such. I would love to do protein shakes, but I can only have 8oz of milk a day. I tried mixing it with water. Gag a maggot. That crap was NASTY! So, I am going to have a shake for lunch. For breakfast, I have eggs, and for dinner, I guess it will be chicken most nights. Sounds pretty good, but I'd actually rather be doing shakes. I would feel like I was doing more to lose the weight I guess- Went for a walk around the neighborhood tonight. Felt good to actually exercise. Going to make it a habit, starting now! Anyhow! Good luck to you all!

Any May 2010 Bandsters?
I am doing my local because of one main reason. Anxiety :o/ There is no way I could fly to Mexico by myself for it. I have a 7 y/o, and I don't think I could leave him here. Even if only for a week. Between my normal anxiety, and the anxiety I would have over leaving 1.The country, and 2.My son, I would freak out!!! Lol- It is a HUGE price difference though! I paid $15,500! Maybe Mexico would have been the better choice. I just don't think I could have done it. GOOD LUCK!!

Any May 2010 Bandsters?
I am self pay also, and I've had some serious second thoughts!! We actually sold our home, and moved in with my mom so we could afford it. I went yesterday and paid for it. It hurt!! Lol- But I DO owe it to myself, and to my family. What good is the money going to do you, if you're not around to enjoy it? For me, my health issues aren't bad right now- But my family history is horrible, and I am so self-conscious, I don't want to leave the house. Everyone is paying for my fat. From my son, not having me come to class parties, and the kids telling him what a fat mom he has- to my husband, that isn't allowed to touch my stomach, or (heaven forbid) see me naked. Yes, it's a butt load of money, in a horrible economy. Yes, I have failed at diet after diet (exercise programs, pills, "lifestyle changes")- But the Lap Band isn't like ANY of those things. It is a tool we have never had before. For 1- Knowing you paid that much money, and sacrificed for it, will help you stick with it. For 2- The Lap Band will help stop the eating, and the non-stop hunger! I honestly believe I can stick with this- And I believe it will be worth the money. You can do it too!! Just think about it- What's more important to you- Having $ in the bank? Or having a longer life? Fast forward to the day you are going to die... Say that you are standing there, and God says "Today, you are going to pass on. If you had of got the Lap Band, and got healthy, you would be able to go on living for another 5-10 years" Seriously... Would that money in the bank be worth it?? That's how I have been thinking about it. Hopefully it helps you-

Got my date!
5 more days for you! That's awesome! They called this morning, and my testing is Wednesday at 11- I'm kind-of freaking out, because it is at a hospital I have never been to. My anxiety really gets the best of me when I have to go somewhere new, by myself. I have tried to find someone to go with me, but everyone is working. I know I can do it- I just have to keep reminding myself of that fact!

Any May 2010 Bandsters?
Right now, I use the "Whey Protein" from Wal-mart. It's good if you mix it with low fat milk. Water makes it horrible! The after taste isn't great, but that's what gum is for! Lol- Usually, I stay full for 4-5 hours after I drink it. Congratulations btw!

How did you get fat?
I was always skinny growing up. When my sister got married, I started staying with her and her husband a lot. He got a good paying job, and their splurge was food. We ate out 8 and 9 times a weekend, at least. Midnight runs to Taco Hell was the norm. And so started my love of fast, fatty foods. I started out about 115, and ended up here at 240. My addiction to greasy burgers and fries is going to be hard to break. Of course, any addiction is! I'm ready!! ONE WEEK TILL I GET BANDED!!

Got my date!
I went for my first consultation appointment today. I was SO nervous, but it was all for nothing. I went in, and spoke to the doctor- Then I talked to the nutritionist about what to eat after the surgery. She set up my surgery date, which is next Friday (May 14)- I am SO excited!!! And a little nervous! It's all paid for now, and set up. All that's left to do is my pre-op diet, and pre-admission testing. The lady at the Doctor's office is supposed to call tomorrow with my PAT time. It's supposed to be the morning of the surgery I think- Woooo Hoooo!

Well, I hope if you decide to get the surgery, you have great sucsess with it. I have a friend that is about your height, (she's so cute! Lol) and was freaking out because she had gained 10lbs- She said that at that height, any added pounds show up. Let us know what you decide! Best of luck )
