  1. Mexico sounds scary to have surgery there, but actually Ive talked to quite a few people on here and also read about it that have had surgery there and they have state of the art facilities. I would do your researchs BIG TIME because ive also heard some really really bad things . you can find lots of info on this site about mexico DR's, just search it. Good luck
  2. I told all my co-workers when I started the process and they've been more than supportive. They are really excited for me and actually one of my friends whom I work with is having the surgery next month as well. There are some people who think its the easy way out and are against it,,, but you know what i think?? They are just jealous!! lol
  3. What insurance do you have and do you know their policy yet?? We are all here to support one another, and I can say that joining this site has helped me tremendously in my decision , not to mention how informative and family like it is. Good luck...you better keep us updated...lol. And do you have a surgeon in mind yet?

  6. I agree soooo many people on this forum had BMIs way higher than that. FIND ANOTHER SURGEON!!!!!! It is fairly easy to find one , and you can call just to find out if you will be accepted. Ive never heard of this
  7. I 100% am feeling the same as you are...and i do believe that most of us feel this way before taking this step. I am due to have surgery next month .. Ive read and read this forums and maybe i think sometimes I shouldnt read so much and get freaked out...lol. I know this decision will change my life. I have a BMI of 36 now and cant imagine the day its a 22 and i am feeling like a different person. I have two children and I want to LIVE for them...A LONG LIFE! too many failures in my past to not do this espcially when my insurance covers it. I am scared every day but I know its the right thing...and its ok to have reservations about it....hope this insight helps!

  12. Hi im Becca, Ive been just loving these forums. They are so informative, i just read and read and read and read...lol. I am having my surgery next month. I have about 80 pounds to lost to be at my goal. I am super excited and feel i have done so much research i am as prepared as i can be i guess. Is there anyone out there that has reached goal with a bmi smiliar to mine and how long has it taken you? Is it true that low bmi'rs have a much harder time losing. I would love to see some before and after pics...they are soooo exciting and motivating for me! Thanks everybody:biggrin:
  13. Hi. I have the BCBS FEDERAL Basic plan..which is the best in coverage. Basically covers 100 percent. I have been to the seminar, met with my surgeon, just had my psych eval nutritionist and physical all in one day at the surgns office. From everything i ready, they do not require a sup diet. if you are above 40 bmi then they do not require one. I am only a 37 and it says nothing in the brochure about a sup diet just that you have to have comorbities.. A lady from my surg office called after my initial appt and told me that I have to do a 3 month sup weight loss. I was very surprised but i went ahead and started it anyway. which i am in the middle of. So last week i got another call from their office and they said that it looked like i have met all the requirements and the lady i spoke to before made a mistake and i didnt need a 3 month diet. So yesterday is when i did all the preop stuff(psych, nut, phys) and they told me it would take a few weeks to get all that info compiled into a letter for insuraance and i should hopefully hear something within 3 weeks if im approved. What i have heard from others and i have checked ALOt believe me,,,is that BCBS FEDERAl (FEPBLUE) is super fast in there approvals. some people have told me they got approved in 2-3 days. Lemee know if this helps...i am super excited and ready for this journey..sounds like we are kinda in the same boat! Good luck with everything!:Dancing_biggrin:
  14. 2beskinny- Sorry I might have misspoken. My surgeons office told me that once my 3 month sup diet is met that i will be approved. Apparently we have very good insurance..she told me Fepblue Basic is one of the best out there. Im excited to get things going and 3 months will fly by..I have nothing better to do in the mean time i guess. Keep me updated and let me know how things are going with you. Id love to join you in your journey..sounds like we have a lot of the same issues going on.
  15. Hi!! I have the EXACT same situation going on! I have BCBS FEd and scince my bmi is less than 40 i have to do a 3 month supervised diet. I was pretty bummed ..but after reading on here that my DR. can start it from the initial weigh-in..( is this really true??) that makes thinks so much better. I have been waiting 2 weeks to hear from insurance and i just did today. So actually in 2 and a half months i could be having surgery.!!! I am so excited and thankful for all the help and support i get on these forums.
  16. Hi..my name is Becca Im 29 and I have been to meet with my surgeon ...been to a seminar...and am waiting on insurance approval. I am really worried and nervous...I would just love to have someone who has been through this process to give me some insight on this whole thing. I am so excited about the possibility of actually getting this surgery done...it will be life changing. I have Blue Cross FEDERAL and ive heard they are pretty easy approval...i just hope so
  17. still waiting to hear something...hope i do soon:thumbup:
  18. Thanks so much!! Im super excited...just met with my surgeon today...and he seemed to think i had nothing to worry about and said i am the perfect candidate for the surgery. No i am going to play the waiting game!!!
  19. I dont have anything from Weight Watchers i dont think...that would be good if i had kept that as well. I do have possibly some records from my OBGYN that states my weight. which would be good. Im have a long history of being over 35 bmi just not 5 consecutive years i dont think. Im hoping there is some way around this and things will work out. I do hear that BCBS Federal is one of the fastest and easiest insurance companies for approval. But i will definitely not give up on this..Ill keep going till i get approved. Thanks for the input. I just worry too much about not being approved..im making myself sick over it! :scared2:
  20. Hi my name is REbecca. I have a BMI of 37 with high cholesterol, Gerd, Anxiety, and Depression. I know that my insurance does not require a 6 month preop. I have already been to the seminar and meet with my surgeon tommorrow. My issue is that I do not have proof that ive been above 35 BMI for the past five years. I have been up and down and all around. If i go back 9 years i had a BMI of 39 but then lost and gained lost and gained. Has anyone had this issue and if so what was the outcome of insurance approval?? Any input would be great. Im really nervous about this whole approval process.
