4 weeks post op
Congrats! Slow and steady - that has been my routine so far. Not huge exciting numbers but progressive and I am happy with that. The time certainly does go fast! Glad you are feeling so well : )

Dehydrated?
I am sorry to hear you don't feel well : ( I had a couple of days feeling light headed but never vomited, so I am not much help. Once I added some yogurt, potato Soup and Protein it went away. Checking with in with your nurse or dr just to be cautious is probably a good idea.

Woohooo... losing again!
I got into probably my smallest pair of 12's this am, even tho the scale didn't change! I have some nice slacks 14's - hardly worn and really comfy material. And a pair or two of jeans. If you want them, pm with your address and I will stick them in the mail :biggrin0:

Medications
I also take wellbutrin 300mg. I think I skipped the first two days after surgery and then resumed taking it on day three. Dr told me to just space my meds out like 15 minutes apart or so - I take a few others as well. My wellbutrin is probably my largest tablet. It was a little scary to take at first but after a couple of times, it was fine. I did make sure to have something in my stomach tho before I took my meds. Made that mistake with my back meds and I felt yucky the entire day.

Got into a little trouble today..
I was on soft foods during the first week. Doctors all have their own opinons which is why we are often told to get a second opinion or even a third I followed the Cornell University guidelines for the most part and it worked well for me. http://www.cornellweightlosssurgery.org/pdf/dietary_guidelines_sleeve_gastrectomy.pdf

Pancreitis
What they said : ) The Atkins diet especially seems to cause gall stones (or sludge) to form. The pancreas doesn't like to be messed with at all. I had an ERCP last August to fix the bile duct muscle into the liver; could have been a day procedure except pancreatitis can occur several hours later. I lived an hour away from the hospital so had to stay over night. From what I have heard, there are many things that can set it off.

Sleeve set for Apr 19th, anyone else?
Stacey, if you can get past the first 3 or 4 days, you will probably feel better. Getting off the sugar is hard. I used to get terrible headaches when I lo-carbed it. My goal was 20 or less carbs; now I am just staying under 40.

Next!!!!!!
crazy with all of the earthquakes lately!! And I thought having sun, rain and hail in the 1.5 hrs during my daughter's baseball game was crazy today! Hope you are feeling well : )

UHC approved me in 5 days
Congrats!! The surgery is a wonderful tool ~ you will love it! OK. There will be a few days that you might not 100% love it, but most of the time you will : ) That date will be here quickly!!

Woohooo... losing again!
I have tried not to stress about the amount I am losing. Truthly, I am thrilled to be down 28 pounds. I certainly couldn't do it on my own. Since the second week, I have only been losing an average of .5 a day. Some days the scale moves, sometimes it doesn't. I wish I could weigh only once a week but haven't been able to avoid the scale yet. I am going to go thru old clothes this weekend. I need pants! LOL Congrats Lee! Glad your scale is behaving : )

post-op 3 days
Ditto to everything mentioned so far. The first two days were lousy, by day three I was better and it just gets easier every day. I never thought I would be able to take a decent drink again and now I have to remind myself not to over do it! I still burp if I eat too much or too quickly : )

I am SO about to lose all of my hair...= [
LOL I stock up whenever I can! Never even entered my mind tho until a cruise that stopped in Costa Rica. Two nurses that we hung out with took us to a pharmacy with them. They had an entire shopping list! Figured if they could do it, so could we!

Tiffany ~ I wonder if your thyroid med is available in Mexico? If you have an old rx bottle, you might bring it and check. I have done that before in Mexico, the Caribbean and in Europe. There are also meds you can buy without a prescription. Don't know if your's would be one or not. Your coordinator may be able to ask the dr ahead of time as well. Another touchy subject but I have never had any issues.

Dr. Aceves April 27 Whoo Hoo!
Congrats on your surgery date! It will be here quickly! I have been "close" to Red Deer, kinda ... Calgary and Medicine Hat : )

Beginning to eat solids (suggestions?)
I ate most of the same things you mentioned, but I had to take it very slowly, like Oregondaisy said. Sometimes it took me over an hour to eat 2 oz. I never did vomit but my tummy has gurgled like crazy everytime I try something new. It does sound like you had liquid too close to your meal. There are several guidelines out there but try to stop drinking 30 minutes before and and 30 minutes after to see if that works better for you. Depending on what I am eating, I will have very small sips with my food. Sometimes ya just need it to get the food down

Three days to go and nervous!
You are very kind : ) It was great to talk to you earlier! Stay positive and be patient ~ you will feel great before you know it!

Evening in the ER
wow! that had to be a scary experience! I don't think I have ever hit 64 oz, however maybe my body was used to that before surgery?? Hope you are feeling better!!

1 day post op
I dunno! lol But the GasX strips helped alot! I have also had a few EGD's, an ERCP and other lap surgery. They always told me that passing gas or burping was normal.

Excited!!! To be sleeved on 4-12-10
Good Luck with your surgery! Positive thoughts and prayers coming your way!

Today I heard something
that is awesome!! Congrats!! I look forward to that day!!

Pre-op fear
yikes!! that doesn't sound like fun at all : ( Are you sure your surgeon will require a catheter? Not all of them do .... hopefully you will be sedated before they do that!!

I think I want to sell my husband to pay for my surgery! (VERY long)
Men. Can't live with them. Can't shoot them legally : ) Mine has been supportive regarding the surgery but he certainly doesn't hesitate to open a big bag of chips and eat them in front of me! Why can't he just eat stuff I don't like or miss????? lol Seriously Goodlife ~ I have similar issues with the back pain and sleep apnea. My kids have always been involved in sports; I have coached volleyball for over 6 years - and this past season, I couldn't do it without help. Fortunately I had an elementary team last fall and my youngest, a high school freshman and one of her teammates were there. I travel as much as possible and the flights have become almost unbearable without an ice pack and meds. We cruise most of the time and our strategy has always been to always take the stairs, not the elevator - so we can eat what we want. In January, my back was so bad that I could hardly walk let alone climb up and down stairs. I got my cpap machine just over 2 weeks ago. There does come a time when we have to take charge of our lives and everyone close to us has to accept it. I would agree that your hubby could be experiencing a variety of fears and loss of control. Hopefully he will see the light when you are succeeding with your new sleeve. I haven't had a c-section but did have a tummy tuck. It was much worse than getting the sleeve surgery! And there are always risks. Driving your car to the grocery store is a risk. Sedation is scary. I have had several surgeries and it is always in the back of my mind that I might not wake up. This surgery was definitely worth the risk for me. Diet and exercise just doesn't work for everyone. I have much more of a mental / food addiction than I knew. Good luck to you!

Hi everyone!
Sorry to hear about the denial! Even with my insurance, if I had met all of their "crazy" requirements, it would have cost me the same or more for co-pays, deductibles, etc than I spent going to Mexico for the surgery. I know Mexico is kinda crazy; if you had asked me a year ago, I would have told you that I would never do such a thing! LOL However, after reading about so many people who have been there, done that, I decided to do it. It really is a great tool - and so far is incredibly easy. Hopefully it will become more available in the US. Seems it would be more cost efficient for the insurance companies to pay for the surgery than all of the health issues without it! I have had over $46,000 in claims since August 1st, and over half of that, I believe, is directly related to being overweight. I am probably looking at another $10-20k until the issues get resolved thru continued procedures and weight loss, and possibly more. Good Luck! Positive thoughts and prayers being sent your way.

Feeling like I took a sock in the stomach
I also traveled alone and it was not an issue at all. I did meet up with a couple of gals from this board which was nice in the clinic and recovery house : ) I packed a very light carry on, was able to walk thru the airport and did fine on the actual flight. I used a different doctor/clinic but was also transported between the airport, the clinic, the recovery house, etc. Even if you want to go shopping, someone will go with you. I was into sleeping tho, not shopping! : ) Get lots of rest while you can the days after your surgery. Hopefully it will go smoothly and you will be a-ok for your flight home.

Mexicali---any updates?
I exchanged emails with my coordinator today. They felt it at the clinic but there was no damage. No changes to their schedule. It would be very scary to be in a hospital during an earthquake!
