The Protein amounts is hard to get in at the beginning! Just be patient and no with time you will be right up to the required amount as per your surgical team. I cannot tolerate the creamy shakes myself. Switched to drinking Isopure clean fruit flavored ( GNC or Vitamin shoppe) they will get in 40 grams in a 20 oz bottle... I still take all day to drink them , at 5 months out!.. a bit pricey but well worth the grams. My favorite is Apple Melon. For some reason they taste better on ice and in a CamelbaK bottle from Target... only allowes small sips through it!
Also make shakes with PB2 with or without chocolate and Peanut Butter cookie flavor Prottizyme all mixed together with Krogers Carb Master milk or SILK... add 1/4 banana when you are allowed.
Good luck to you.. It is all so very worth it once you work out your own dislikes and likes! Listen to your pouch...LOL I lived on shrimp cocktails since week 6... and now enjoy Wendys chili ( which I hated before)... ???

The latest science shows that coffee will NOT dehydrate you. Any medical professional who tells you otherwise is probably behind on their journal reading. Here's a link to just one article about just one study (there are more) that debunks the whole "caffeine is dehydrating" myth:
    http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2014/01/13/262175623/coffee-myth-busting-cup-of-joe-may-help-hydration-and-memory
That said, you should always follow your surgical team's instructions and there are definitely other good reasons to cut back on or eliminate caffeine for sleevers.

thanks ajustice, I am a bundle of anxiety right now, and I am like why am I having all this going through my head, I had the lapband surgery already so I know pretty much what to expect, I am just anxious to get it done? I want to feel better about myself, and move forward with my new life and let go of my old. I just let so much get to me and I shouldn't. Thanks for the kind words and I will have to try what you have. I would love to go out walking but it is freezing outside and I really hate the cold, so I don't know if I will get to that today or in the next few days being in the low 20's and windy as heck out, I don't want to freeze, lol. As for the warm bath, that sounds like a great idea, I might just do that tonight, and soak!!! Thanks again!!!

Freak the calories, it's going to be hard enough to get in your fluids at first, Water and Protein, just do what you can, and have your coffee, it won't hurt you!!! But you may have to decide on a different one after cause that is a lot of calories? Try new things, your tastes for things is going to change after the surgery!!! Trust me mine has!!!

I feel this way all the time, cause of all the times I tried to lose weight and it failed, I am just starting my journey, and I read a post from someone on here called super dieters. If you find it you should read it. After reading that I have decided that I am not going to allow myself to cheat or have bad food. Now I can say that now, and after a year or whatever it takes to get to where I want to be I could change my mind, but i think that as long as I put forth the effort to stay away from the junk I used to eat, I should be ok. I am going to stock my fridge with fresh fruit and cut up vegetables and always have some with me so that I can try to stay healthy, cause as you say your not being here for your 15 month old is incentive enough for you, I also have 2 kids a 9 and 12 year old that depend only on me. I have to be here for them, and they are my world and I will do whatever it takes to be here and show them the right way to live. So good luck in your journey, and I hope the best for you!!!

First I want to congratulate you about surgery!!! How wonderful. I also want to thank you for your kind words and encourage you to use the list as a guide. Your journey is a learning experience and no matter how much you know going in....some of those old habits may take a little practice. IF you do end up breaking rule #1 I want you to never feel shame or beat yourself up because we cannot change the past. All we have is right now and that's the only thing you can change. I will repeat again that it is easier to not do something 100% instead of 99%. In case you missed the great article that was posted in these comments by another member (Isereno), make sure and read this article too. I thought it was wonderful! http://www.gretchenrubin.com/happiness_project/2013/01/want-to-be-free-from-french-fries-or-why-abstaining-may-be-easier-than-you-think/

Also I don't start pre op diet until tomorrow. I'm actually pretty lucky because its two shakes and veggies/protein for supper. 3 day liquids 3 days before the surgery. 2 shakes and a meal should be ok, done those many times. That's the story of my life haha.

JMCP, I am having my surgery tomorrow, and this weekend I was thinking the same thing, but I have someone I work with that had it done, and she eats things I never knew you could after this surgery, but you just have to push past these feelings and remember what your doing it for. I need this now more than ever cause I have tried so many things to lose the weight and nothing worked for me, and this is my last option. Believe in yourself and remember that Coconut cream pie is what got you where you are now, do you really want to stay where you are now? Good Luck

Yvonne, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for posting this, I am actually having surgery tomorrow and I am super excited, but I was struggling these past few days with the issue of will I ever be able to or even want to eat the foods I love now while I am heavy, and I have decided to follow the 6 steps rule, and I definitely am going to follow step one. I don't want to be trapped like I am now, and I want to be able to get to where I have always wanted to be HEALTHY. So thanks again, I am going to copy and paste these steps to a word document and print out a bunch and post them everywhere I can see it when I grab for foods and remember what you said!!! I am going to start my new life off right.

OP: are you on a restricted calorie pre-op diet?

Sounds to me like your body is going through chemical cravings for carbs. I felt that way too when I first started the pre-op diet. It was like detox from a powerful drug. And i had all these crazy thoughts. So Id take a big bite of bagel or ice cream, put it in my mouth, enjoy it, and spit it in the trash. Worked for me, to get through the carb-detox.

I was back and forth until I fell asleep in the operating room
My journey hasn't been all butterflies and rainbows, but it's not been doom and gloom either. It's a bumpy road, but hey...look where you have been and then look ahead to where you are going.
I had to accept that I couldn't do this on my own. I've tried many times prior to surgery to lose and keep off the weight. I always failed. I was angry that I allowed myself to get to the point of weighing 354 lbs. One day, after accepting my anger and my frustration and realizing I needed to change, the decision to have the surgery just happened. Even though I was scared witless at times, I have ZERO regrets! None. I have MANY rewards...
I still sneak...no...I ENJOY a bite or two of my favorite, not-so-good-for-me treats. Instead of a giant slice of cheesecake, I have a bite of someone else's slice. I eat a single piece of chocolate instead of a giant candy bar.
Follow your doc's advice and plans. Take deep breaths. Tell yourself from this point on that you will be successfull. Focus on what you are gaining, not what you are giving up. You will ROCK this!
