  1. Good morning,

I'm worried about losing too much weight on the 6 month medically supervised diet. For some reason I'm rolling on this diet (South Beach). I've lost 7 pounds alone this week. Don't get me wrong, I need the band. I have these phases that I go through, during the year when I become serious about weight loss and some diet actually works and I lose weight. The problem, is that it works temporarily and I end up gaining all the weight and thensome back. Partly because I feel starved, loss motivation and the diet becomes too hard to stick too. Anyway how much weight is too much weight to loss in order to get insurance approval. We first weighed at doctors office I had a 40 BMI, I'm sure it dropped a little. What's a safe amount of weight to loss, or safe BMI range to be in, in order to still get insurance approval. I have BCBS TX Anthem, they are require 40 BMI, initially or 2 co-morbities (don't have any) and the 6 month diet.

Anyyyyy suggestions or incite is welcome
  2. Hello,

I wasn't really looking forward to 6 month medically supervised weight loss program. What I've learned from reading the blogs and meeting with the nutritionist and nurse is that the goal of the program is not necessarily for you to loss weight or to simply get insurance approval. Although both would be great, the real goal is to get you to change your habits, behaviors and mindset to prepare you to be successful post-op. My realist attainable goals between now and my next appointment are to drink strictly water, no sugar and no fast food. Sound ambitious, I know.
    Good luck me:tt2:
  3. Hello, I am starting the LAP-BAND® process. Thank goodness we changed insurance companies from Aetna to Blue Cross Blue Shied Texas (BCBS TX). Aetna did not approve me now I am going through BCBS TX.I would have never been approved through Aetna, no co-mobilities and BMI only 40 for the last year. Looking to have surgery at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center-Dallas. Changing insurances was a huge blessing. From what I have read UT-Southwestern are pioneers in lap banding. They performed the first LAP-BAND® procedures in Texas and they have single incision surgery available. What a great option. Called hospital to set up consultation, hopefully they will schedule consultation sometime this week (January 3, 2009.) Trying to speed up the process as much as possible, even trying to contact nutritionist at UT-Southwestern to look into surgery requirements like 6 month diet. Anyway that for having me on this forum, looking forward to hearing all of your stories and advice.

  4. I've completed all of my insurance company's pre-surgical requirements, submitted paperwork on Wednesday, July 14th and found out the next day that I was approved. Now I'm waiting for a surgery date. Once the doctors office receives the approval letter, then can schedule the surgery. Not celebrating until I actually get a surgery date.
