I am also addicted. I quote things from the site all the time. And i also refer to the site regularly when I have had questions since my surgery. I LOVE this site it has been a LIFE saver since surgery.

You can always ASK him about it, ask him why the different instructions. That's what I'd do, but I love to ask questions!

I only get weighed at the doctor during weight loss. I hate the scale too and could care less what it says. I worry about my size and how I feel in my own skin. HOWEVER--when I get into maintenance--I'm going to break down and get a scale and monitor at least weekly. Getting too complacent could cause me to gain weight without realizing it and when I am in maintenance I can never be complacent. It would probably be too easy to gain weight back.

Your doctor is going to remove about 85% of your stomach. It's forced Portion Control. You cannot eat like you are now, not without throwing up or pain. I still eat sometimes to where I am uncomfortable, but over eating now is such a tiny portion compared to before surgery. I.E. eating a whole tortilla (to dip in salsa before the meal) and then eating a full enchilada and TB of Beans and TB or rice. Seriously!!! LOL I need to stick to a half tortilla, and I KNOW that or else eat only half the enchilada! You can drink your calories or eat things like ice cream, cake.....etc. and gain, but you will probably have little or no hunger. It is not anything like before!

I confess that I worry that I'll wake up having gained it all back. (i'm obsessive about weighing, but it keeps me on track)
I confess that I don't 'feel' as thin as others say I am. I still look in the mirror and see someone larger.
I confess that I LOVE shopping now, although it took a LONG, LONG time for me to go to the right dept. For ages I would walk through the women's dept.
I confess, I do NOT exercise. I should but I'm a bum! I knew I'd have to make life changes to lose weight, I have the attention span of a five year old, if exercise was how I lost it, there would be a bigger chance I'd gain it back as soon as I lost interest. I do not recommend this method, but it's worked for me thus far.
I confess, secretly in my mind, I am the food police. I look at other's plates in restaurants or wherever and wonder if they realize what they're doing to themselves. Even if they aren't large, it's unhealthy!!!
I love 'Stella' my sleeve. Yes, she has a name!! I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Life is good, shopping is fun and sex is better than it was 20 yrs ago! I still know it is possible to regain, although i don't think there is any way to gain it all back. Surely not!!!

    Hey 'Less'
Dr. Davidson was my surgeon too. My bougie is a 32 and I had NO hunger for about the first eight or nine months, now I have what I call my 'new hunger'. Maybe slight hunger occasionally, but it's really more of an empty feeling. I eat because I enjoy it, it tastes good, I know I must and it's a social thing! I feel like I eat like a naturally thin person now. It's great!! I have no idea how much stomach Dr. D removed, I haven't gone for my two yr check up, I need to call and make an appt. Maybe I'll remember to ask him when I go!! I reached goal pretty quickly, his goal in just under five months, MY goal, (five lbs less) 5 or 6 weeks later. How far out are you? Oh, I was told at the seminar or maybe by his nurse that about 85% of the stomach is removed. Forced Portion Control, I love it!!

Hello, I am in the Dallas area as well. My surgery is scheduled with Dr. Kim for Oct. 11, 2012. I was looking to be apart of a big support group of pre-op and post-op sleevers in my area. Please friend me and let's share experiences.

It's physically impossible to over-eat - doing so causes you to vomit.
As for eating the wrong foods, some things your sleeve won't like anymore, and other things will come easier but not as easy as they were. Your sleeve is a tool, and just like a hammer will break a bone if you don't use it properly, it is possible, albeit unlikely, for you to not be successful with the sleeve.
That being said, I highly recommend seeking professional help to overcome your binge eating and over eating issues before your surgery and after.

Someone told me 'It wasn't your stomach that made you fat, but losing your stomach (or most of it) can help get you thinner!'
The sleeve is not magic, nor is it going to do all the work. The main thing I am hoping is that it gives me a second chance.

Here's my story. Overweight all my life. Sleeved 7/23/2012 so I'm not quite 1 month post op yet. Starting wt. was 310 lbs. Now I'm at 279. I've noticed that I feel full most of the time, which is great. I eat what I'm supposed to and get all the pro and H2O in ok now. Television commercials for food no longer makes me drool.
I'm so glad I got sleeved. I'm looking forward to a "normal" life. :-)

I followed the Kaiser Fremont Bariatric program, which went to soft foods at two weeks, as long as your 2 week surgeon appt. went well, which mine did. I really didn't eat foods that weren't Protein dense, such as oatmeal or mashed potatoes, till much later in the process.
I never stalled and have been maintaining since March, so I am quite happy with the food program I followed!
Here's at typical day for me at 2 weeks past surgery:
    6:00 a.m: 1 cup Water
7:30 a.m: 1/2 cup fat free plain greek yogurt mixed with splenda (12 g. protein)
    8:30 a.m. 1 cup Water
    9:30 a.m. 1 cup water
    10:30 a.m. 1 oz. lowfat cheese stick (7 g. protein)
    12:00 noon: 2 oz. turkey lunchmeat (10 g. protein)
    2:30 p.m: 1 cup water
    4:30 p.m: 1 oz. shrimp, 1 oz. scallops ( 10 g. protein)
    6:30 p.m: 1 cup water
8:30 p.m: Protein Drink with water and soymilk (27 g. protein)
    Best wishes on your journey,
    Lynda

Which is exactly why I chose the sleeve. I can take or leave sugar, but I was a volume eater. Not any more though.
