  1. You know - I do often wonder who sits back and names products. I mean - seriously. The Magic Bullet as most of us know - is NOT the food blender. :frown: But hey, I guess it gets the job done. (Much like the other referenced bullet) LOL! I make an awesome Protein shake in the morning with mine. I use 4 ounces of Muscle Milk, 6 ounces of skim milk, a scoop of Slim Fast optima protein and 2 tsp of Cool Whip Lite. It's a YUMMY Protein Shake. :smile2: (And has about 25 grams in it) I drink it on my way to work. LOVE that thing.
  2. WOW! That is an amazing accomplishment! You should be VERY proud of yourself! I love to hear success stories like this. It gives me hope that one day I'll be able to say that, too! Thank you for sharing! :frown:
  3. I haven't lost ANYTHING since surgery. I'm following diet and everything and NOTHING. Nada. Not one pound. I'm ready to pound my head against a wall. I keep thinking that I'll have this massive drop off of weight but nothing is taking place right now. Anyone else have that?
  4. You can get them online or in stores. I think Target carries them. I know Macy's and Bed, Bath and Beyond have them. If you sign up for BBB's newsletter, they send you a 20% off coupon for their store. Might get it cheaper! 2) I don't know their typical cost. I bought mine from my mom's neighbor. She had a yard sale and NEVER used it and I got it for $10. (Still in the box!) I think they're like $70? I'm not sure. 3) Truthfully - I think they're better than a blender or food processor. You get two different blending blades, plus it comes with these different cups - I think I have six in all, and you can literally blend your entire days worth of food in a few cups and be done. I make my Protein shakes in them every single morning. I LOVE mine. It's quick to do. Plus, you can make all sorts of single serving meals in them which is good if your family is eating something else. :frown:
  5. See, I see the farting as a new weapon. As many dutch ovens as I have had to deal with from my loving husband, it's about time for payback. Oh yes - I'm getting even now!
  6. I'm in the same boat this morning. :frown: I am 8 days post-op. On Friday (five days post-op) I was down 2 lbs from my surgical day weight. Well, then yesterday and today I'm back UP - so I'm like 1 lb over my surgical weight and I cannot for the life of me figure out what the heck is going on. It's really starting to tick me off. But, I keep telling myself - "the weight will come off". Just praying it does. I keep doing what I'm supposed to. But, I totally feel your frustration. Trust me!
  7. So, I have to vent for a second. I'm doing well with incisions, etc. That's not an issue. My problem is that the scale WILL NOT MOVE. Ugh. On Friday I was at 260, almost 261. Today I'm at 263. I realize it's my TOM, but still. I'm following the diet and plan and don't understand what the heck is going on. Ugh. I know it takes time but I just had to say "WHAT THE HECK SCALE!" for a second. Throw a sister a pound or something. I do still feel somewhat bloated, and obviously my band is working because this morning I had a protein shake and I'm obviously full. I can feel that. Anyway - anyone else not really see any weight loss right away? I want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong. My calories hover around 800 - sometimes less, sometimes more, but never over 1,000. I also have been walking. Not a lot but will get it in - I work downtown and therefore walk to different places. I know it's too early to see any change in weight, but I was hoping to see at least a pound or two. I don't to go in next week weighing more than I did on surgery day.
  8. You'll do great and it will be done and over with before you even realize it. My band is a week old today and I still can't believe it. I feel almost back to normal - have been back to work and everything. You will do GREAT! And, you'll have a new "friend" that will help you reach some amazing goals. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow! ((HUGS)) Ginger
  9. And after all my awesome bandster friends advice I had a great thought tonight. Here is my goal. My SIL who lives to pick on me for weight has gained some weight in the past few years so she's about a size 10 now. One day maybe I can say "Oh - I have some size 10 jeans that are a bit too big on me now. Would you like them???" Mwah ha ha ha. A girl can dream, can't she?
  10. Sorry - should have clarified - my mom (who is 71) slipped up and said "she's out of surgery and they fixed her hernia, too" so she didn't say what surgery I had. All she said was that I had my hernia fixed, too. What I had told the in-laws was that I was having hernia surgery. Hence, why they interrogated him the minute they got him alone. Of course, my husband is a closet smoker and his parents would FREAK if they knew. Of course, each time my kids made a comment about it and his parents freaked out, I covered for him telling them one excuse or another, so they think their son doesn't smoke. I told him I was expecting the same sort of protection. That's all. (My husband even said my mom was innocent in it - he admitted that part) Trust me - it's not a male-bashing moment. He's a good guy good dad, etc. But, it's the fact that he won't stand up to his family that makes me more mad than anything.
  11. I'm having the same frustration and I'm a week out from my banding. I think that our bodies are adjusting and that they will eventually line out. I was excited on Friday to see that I was down 2 lbs from my pre-surgical weight only to find this morning that they're back. I just keep plugging away and figure that my body will eventually catch-up to what is going on. It just takes some time. Plus, we won't have our first fills for a while, so that's when the REAL restriction starts. Right now is just practice.
  12. Ok - I can't believe I'm posting this because my husband would kill me but sometimes when we're laughing and having a good time, I call him "cockus erectus". I know- bad girl!
  13. Hey Alison! Congrats on your success! I hope to be able to say that one day! So regarding the drinking. How long after your meals do you wait? Right now I'm holding off a half hour. I've only had my band for a week so I think it's doing pretty well (obviously I don't have any restriction right now so I'm trying to work it with willpower) and wondered if I should wait longer. Do you have a set time? Ginger
  14. Welcome Laura! I was banded on 3/22, so we're pretty close to the same surgery date. I also have two little ones. My oldest is 9 and my youngest is four and it can be VERY hard sometimes to prep their food and then create something different for yourself. Been there, done that. It's getting better, and I have to remember not to graze off of their plates, either. (I swear that's a MOM thing!) Sounds like you have a supportive hubby and that things are going well! That's great! I have to say, this board has been a lifesaver for me. Everyone seems very sweet and we're all in the same boat! Ginger
  15. Hey girl! Welcome aboard! I, too, have PCOS and am actually not doing too bad getting in my Protein. I think when you're poly-cystic, lower carbs and higher protein is better for you and it's the type of "diet" that works. I'm like you - I HATE yogurt, oatmeal, etc. I do like milk, but hate the taste of a lot of protein powders so I have to get creative. I do supplement my diet with a lot of low-fat cheese. I love LF string cheese as well as some of the low-fat cheeses that you can get - look for Sargento's, etc. They will have slices in a variety that are reduced fat. Truthfully - to get my protein in pre-band (and post-band once I go to more "solid" foods) I'll be eating a LOT of turkey and chicken. I even ate a number of just turkey slices. If you look on the package and get ones without fillers (I used Sara Lee) I think 4 slices of turkey was only 50 calories but almost 7 or 10 grams of protein. It's a quick way to get the protein in and if you savor the slices, it will hold you over for a while. (I like to eat them with a slice of low-fat provolone) There are also some flavorless protein powders that you can add to a lot of food. I found some at GNC and add it to a number of things. You can't taste it in Spaghetti sauce when you blend it in and I believe it's Ronzoni Smart Taste has about 10 grams of protein per serving. Hope those ideas help! I have more if you want, just let me know! Ginger
  16. I'm in the same boat. I was just banded on 3/22 but with pre-op diet, etc., I've lost about 18 lbs. Still wearing the same crap I was before. I probably won't see a difference for another 20 lbs, and then that will only be 1 size if I'm lucky. I think that we'll reach a spot where the sizes will transform rapidly with each pound we lose. Right now I'm sure it's the starting stage where our gaps for weight loss and size reduction are bigger. At least, that's what I keep telling myself. LOL! Congrats on 29 lbs! That is AMAZING! I hope to say that next month! WOW!
  17. Well, this weekend was definitely a wake-up call for me in terms of judgmental people and their reactions. My husband's family found out through a slight slip-up from my mom and my husband's inability to handle interrogation. Oh - and they're nosy. Plain and simple. Now, I wait. For their first snide comment at dinner. His dad asked him "why did you lie to me about it?" He didn't ask me. Of course, did my husband tell him the truth about his being a total jerkwad when it comes to my weight and that it was my business and not his? No - he just said "she doesn't want anyone to know." I would have probably read them their beads if they asked me directly. So, it's the elephant in the room right now and you can feel the tension. Quite frankly - I don't care. After a rough weekend of freaking out over them knowing I realized one thing. Why should I let THEM control ME? I'm happy with my band. I've had it a week and can already tell that I'm going to love it. Have I really lost weight since surgery? No - but I'm down about 18 lbs total so far and it's just the beginning. Have a noticed a difference in what I'm able to eat and my hunger? Yes. That's what matters. Not the fact that some jerks who live to make other people miserable are trying to bring me down. I'm not saying I won't have my rough patches with these people. Goodness knows I will because I always have. But, I think with the help of everyone here and the support group at my doctor's office, I'll be able to overcome it. :smilielol5: So, thanks again! And I hope that we can all vent freely on this thread because we all know that all of us have experienced such CRAP over the years dealing with obesity that it's good to have a platform of those who have "been there, done that" to talk to.
  18. I thought I'd hop on here and share as well, as I've been banded a week today! I remember that feeling all too well. The nervousness, the "what ifs", etc. But, you know what? I'm a week out and I am so darn happy that it's not even funny. The surgery was easier than I thought first off. I was wheeled in, said hi to the anesthesiologist who told me she was going to give me something to relax me. The last thing I remember, I woke up coughing and was done. The first few days were rough with the gas and everything but guess what? I'm back to work, I'm feeling great. I'm excited to use my new "toy" as I like to call it. I'm already noticing a change in my eating habits and how I want to take care of both my band and my body. I'm looking forward to being able to shop in a store that is not specific to overweight girls. I want to be able to go on vacation and not feel like the whale sitting next to the pool. It's an amazing feeling to know that you don't always have to be hungry. Last night I even slept on my stomach. Talk about fast healing. Trust me - it will all be done and over with before you realize it and you'll be ready for the next chapter in your life. Goodness knows that I am looking forward to mine! Hang in there and if you need support, this board is amazing! I LOVE it! We'll all be there for you!
  19. I think all of us have that same feeling - goodness knows I went through the same thing. We've been through the up/down, up/down so much that naturally we're going to feel that way. It WILL work. Just keep telling yourself that! Plus, this is a wonderful board full of supportive people. We'll all do this together!
  20. I've been adding a lot of Protein to my shakes and it's definitely something that "sticks" with you longer. I made one today that has almost 30 grams! It's also fairly yummy. Here is what I did: 4 ounces of Muscle Milk (I got the creamy vanilla - pretty much no sugar, low carb and HIGH in protein - roughly 8 grams) 1 scoop of Slim Fast Ultra with protein (7 grams) 1 cup of skim milk (10 grams) 2 tbsp of cool whip lite (3 grams) I blended it with my handy-dandy magic bullet mixer and VOILA! Of course, I split it into 2 servings because I couldn't get all of the first down but it's a pretty good way to get a lot of protein. Plus, it's YUMMY! I bet you could add the Peanut Butter instead of the cool whip lite and get even MORE protein. I don't add peanut butter because sometimes I have an allergic reaction to it. (It causes me to get really nauseated and hives) There is also something called PB Max and it's a powder, and that might have protein in it, too. It might be worth looking into. I'm almost a week out and I have to say, I am LOVING my band already. I can't wait to see how this journey goes. It will get better! G
  21. Thanks a lot everyone! I've had some time to wrap my head around everything. My husband did say that it broke his heart to tell them after they cornered him. His dad cornered him in the car the other day and he was stuck - of course, his dad has always emotionally abused him, too, and so I need to tackle this WITH my husband and not against him. So right. I guess at this point in my journey, I know that I'm doing what I need to do for myself and I need to not care what these people (or anyone else for that matter) says or thinks. What is funny is his dad who always poked fun of me, etc., is a BIG guy himself. He's just a big jackass, too. LOL! I'm so thankful for this board. Everyone is so helpful and understanding. It's nice to have a "home" where everyone knows what it's like to be ostracized in one way or another. Thank you again so much! Now - to get this weight off!
  22. Thank you everyone for your support. I have to be honest, it's been a rough night. My husband and I have been arguing over it because he does not feel like he's done anything wrong and I'm still hurt. I'm still trying to wrap my mind it. I wish that his family would butt out. They are the reason for 99% of our fights.
  23. Mine said it was fine as soon as you felt fine with doing the deed. No restrictions there. (I'm sure in the hospital was one of them - LOL!)
  24. Hang in there - it will get better! ((HUGS)) Mine was last Monday and I'm feeling way better than I was the day after. It's almost like night and day. I would go to clear liquids for a while. Did they give you anything for nausea? You might want to call them to see if you can get some finnegran? (Spelling?)
