Is anyone else GAINING weight before banding?
MsFab, That's great about your progress - I hope I can be as successful as you! Dr. Geiss is great - I feel totally comfortable with him and his staff. I have decided to start the liquid pre-op diet as soon as the products arrive. I will also start excersizing at that time, I have been putting that off. I do think this "last supper" syndrome is very self-destructive, and it is surely as much a mental battle as a physical one.

Is anyone else GAINING weight before banding?
Drasan, Thanks so much for your advice - I think you are right. I will start a modified diet as soon as I get my liquid diet supplies delivered - I ordered them yesterday. I'm hoping I didn't gain much more than you - but I won't know until I get the courage to step on the scale.

Is anyone else GAINING weight before banding?
Yes, I understand that, but I haven't even started the pre-surgical liquid diet yet. I've gained my weight between the initial consult, through the medical clearences. Perhaps I should start the liquid diet sooner than 7 days before my surgery. I would be much more concerned if I were gaining weight on the liquid diet, but that is not my situation. I am scheduled to start the liquid diet on the 24th. Maybe I will start it on the 22nd instead.

Is anyone else GAINING weight before banding?
I had my initial consultation with Dr. Geiss on 12/22/09, and since then, I have gained a significant amount of weight. I don't know exactly how much because I have not been on the scale, but I can tell by the way my clothes are[not] fitting. I have a surgery date of 3/31/10 and am so excited to start my new life afterwards. I am just a bit concerned with this weight I've gained since my consult in December. I am embarassed to go back to Dr. Geiss on the 24th for my pre-surgical testing - and have them see I've gained weight since I've last been there! Has anyone else had this same experience?

March 2010 Bandsters
March 31st! I am very excited and very anxious to get it done and start my new life!! As a side note, has anyone else actually gained weight prior to surgery? I have gotten heaver since I had my first consult with my surgeon on 12/22. I have several explanations for this, but am wondering if there are any other bandsters who have experienced the same thing. I notice the majority of you have lost weight since you're initial consult with your surgeon - and I feel like I am the only one who has gained weight.

tomorrow!
I go for my consult with Dr. Geiss! I am so nervous and excited!

I am so proud of you!! Make sure you update your ticker - it still only says 21lbs - EVERY pound counts!! I can't wait to be following in your footsteps... This is my last week of the semester, so I am going to start calling and making appointments for the specialists I need to meet with, hopefully have that information in-hand before I visit with Dr. Geiss on 12/22.

Pre-op Newbie Long Island
Hi! Where on Long Island are you located? This site will bring tons and tons of information AND inspiration. I've not yet been banded, I'm having my first consult with Dr. Geiss in Syosset on 12/22. I'm hoping not too long after that I can have my surgery. Please keep us informed as to how your preop diet/surgery/postop recovery is going!! Michelle

Worked out for you - the "first" meeting in December was canceled due to "unforseen circumstances" - so you didn't miss anything! :rolleyes2: I'm already registered for the Jan 10 meeting - but my initial consult with Dr. Geiss is on 12/22/09 - so I will be meeting him beforehand. I can hardly wait!! PS - RE: the liquid diet - I've done it before for 6 months. The first 3 days or so are hell (think detoxing) but after that it's pretty much just routine. I have no doubts youll be able to get through a few weeks, especially while you see the numbers on the scale going down down downnnnn!!

WOW! Thank you SO much for answering my questions! It's really helpful to hear your experience. I can't believe you've already lost 21lbs!! That's amazing! I am so happy for you!

Oh, I am so glad to hear you are feeling better - I really didn't expect it to be this soon, to be honest, so that is a nice suprise! Congratulations on your 18lb loss already! That's great!! So yes, I do have quite a few questions... Feel free to not answer all if you're not comfortable. Did you stay overnight at the hospital? Was Dr. Geiss able to make you feel comfortable before you went under? Have you "slimed" or "pb" yet? Are you uncomfortable all of the time? Is it due to the swelling or can you actually feel the band/port? How has your digestive tract been handeling this change? Constipation? Diarrhea? Normal? Are you feeling very weak? Are you able to walk around somewhat easily? Can you drive? Have you gone back to work? Was it done laproscopically? What is the followup regimen that Dr. Geiss has implimented? I suppose that is all for now. I'm really just extremely happy that you are OK and that things seem to be going well for you. If there is anything you need, please let me know.

Chellz, How much have you lost since you've been banded? How long did it take from the initial consult with Dr. Geiss to get banded? How/What was the process?

Will & Will-Nots for Pre & Post-Bandsters
LOL - that's hysterical about the WLS Drive-Thru. And yes, I throw away my car garbage (fast food wrappers) before I leave my car when I am sneaky eating. I will drive next to a dumpster in the back of a mall and throw the garbage in there. Like throwing it away somewhere other than my home makes it invisible. LOL. What a weird thing!

ymjackson, Your will&will-nots were great! I love your confidence! I am envious of it, in fact. I can totally identify with the "eating in the car because those calories don't count" will-not. I have termed my private eating as "sneaky eating" - in my car, in my room, where and when ever I am alone - I will eat eat eat and feel it doesn't matter because no one else can see me. How messed up is that??

Dr.Geiss Seminar Cancelation D:
I was scheduled for the informational seminar tomorrow 12/8/2009 at the North Ritz Club in Syosset, New York. I just recieved an email stating the informational seminar has been canceled due to unforseen circumstances. The next informational seminar is 1/5/2009! I am so dissapointed, as I was looking forward to meeting Dr. Geiss and learning a lot about the band. D:

I am so glad to hear everything went well - I figured you would be laying low for a few days postop. I can't wait to hear all about it! I also think Dr. Geiss is awesome! He arranged for me to have an earlier consultation appointment with him. It's 12/22 now instead of 1/14! So excited!

I will no longer have to shimmy sideways down a narrow isle at a store!

I know you'll do great - just keep thinking about your daughter if you get scared. She needs you to go thru with this. :tongue2: I will be thinking about you all day - please let me know ASAP when you get home, so I can hear how it went. xoxo

OMG amanda - it's so close!!! I bet you are so anxious! Just know we will all be thinking of you on the second - I cant wait to hear how it went. I also can't wait to meet you on the 8th - you will be my hero! I've done liquid diets before, it's really not too terrible - i would just say to sleep most of the day. HA. You wont even realize you're not eating. Just think - this is the first day of the rest of your life! I'm so excited for you and proud! ps - the ticker, is that your daughter? she is BEAUTIFUL.

Will & Will-Nots for Pre & Post-Bandsters
Illumination, That made me LOL. I'm so happy you put that on your fridge! I put mine in my car on the dashboard - to keep me from going to the drivethru while I'm waiting for my surgery date. Catmom, I know! I wish more people would share their will&will-nots! I can identify with all of them!!! JeweI, I know your pain of the "skinny" jeans - I can't wait until I can wear a pair of them without looking like an upsidedown triangle!

The fat girl at the party.
I've been introduced to a guys friends as his cousin - when we were out together. Talk about embarassing! Little did I know I was obviously too huge to be introduced as a girl he was hooking up with. SO LAME.

What a great list you have! I totally identify with standing at the BBQ and stalking resturants for booth sizes and pathyway girths!!!

Amanda, I can imagine you being nervous - but don't let it get to you! I am so jealous you're getting banded so soon! I will keep you in my thoughts, no doubt, when you're going in. I know you'll do great! I haven't been for any consult yet, which is frustrating because Dr. Geiss was booked thru Jan 12th was the earliest I could get. I'm hoping there will be a cancelation and they will call to ask if I can come in earlier. HA. The Ritz will be my first step in this process, though maybe joining LBT was step one! If you need anything - let me know - I work in Syosset so I could be there in a flash if my bandbuddy needed anything. Heh.

OH yes! I've gotten it more than once, to be honest. At first I was mortified. You're "lucky" - I'd take being ignored over being chastised any day. Isn't it sad the stigma against us overweight folk?
