GREAT POST, I am really loving this whole exp. and being a part of this site. You said it all and really your post should be the consent you have to sign before getting into this venture. You are 100 % correct, I just had my surgery on Monday 1/4/2010. I am a nurse and I understand what surgery is, but I have to tell you until I woke up following the surgery with the actual pain in my gut, I finally realized how real this is. I thank god I am doing great and knock on wood no problems. I am following the diet to a T, clear liquids, diet jello blah blah, and even this is a committment. Hello Kyra, You have a couple different things that need to be addressed, number one your PCP is an issue. If the MD has canceled 6 appointments, you really should consider another PCP. You have to have a PCP that is going to work with you. I don't believe insurance will consider approving without the PCP supporting you, you will also need a psych eval, and many other requirements, depending on the program you choose you may need to attend support groups and jump through a lot of hoops. #2 You have to be able to loose ten percent of your weight and show that you can be on a diet and you have to commit to exercise. #3 If you don't mind me asking, why are you choosing bypass at such a young age? If you were to get into a program and loose the 10% you could have a lapband and would not have to deal with the malabsorption and the other complications relating to bypass? I have just had my surgery and it was a realtively long process to get to this point and now that I have the surgery it is still 100 % committment on my part to make this work. I have to follow a very strict diet for the next 6 weeks. Then have to stick to diet and exercise. Anyone considering weightloss surgery has to understand that this is a huge step to make and is in no way a quick fix. Hey,, you are doing all the correct things.... try to cover it with some guaze or something somewhat sterile IE: large band aid etc etc and keep using the neosporin,,this will keep the area clean. You want to keep the entire area clean and dry and you take a shower and let the water run on that area, very delicately dab it dry and they cover with the guaze and neosporin.. Keep an eye on your temp.. and just give the Doc a call in the morning.. This is def not a 911 call if you guys have never heard of this before there is a service called nurseline 1-800-846-4678. They will triage anyone free of charge and tell you what direction you should go in, IE: urgent care, ER, blah blah blah awesome service. Good luck I hope you feel better very soon.

Hey everyone I am not a professional yet b/c I don't get banded until tomorrow.... but my advice would be don't scratch it put some neosporin on it and leave it alone.....:smile2: Show it to the surgeon when you go back, your fingernails can be so dirty and you are scratching a very tiny opening in your skin which could lead to an infection. As long as it doesn't hurt and there is no redness let the MD know on Monday.... Hope this helps

Days are now turning into hours, January 4th my big day.. Very excited, scheduled for 10 am my MD is doing two lap bands and one bypass so I shouldn't be bumped too much... I will keep you all posted, good luck to everyone having it on the same day. :smile2:
