  1. Hey there.....I have been banded for 3 months now and still do not count calories...lost total of 37 lbs now....the only thing I add up during the day is PROTEIN GRAMS. My goal is 68 grams a day. Although calorie counting is prolly a good idea, I have never been good at it and my Dr says its not necessary. As long as you are making healthy choices and getting the protein needs in that you are supposed to, you will be fine. Although from your list it looks like you may be eating too little, you may wanna check with your doctor!

    Good luck!!

  2. ok so here i am 3 months post-op, lost 35+ pounds and feeling pretty good. maybe tooo good.....so last week i used a straw for 2 days at work and suffered gas pains for awhile...got "stuck" and "slimed" (2 words that i never knew what they meant till now)...and here I was chugging along after 10 weeks and feeling fab, and BAM felt like crap:sad:

Now yesterday I had pain around my port ALL DAY...so much to the point I felt like I had just had surgery and had all that post-op swelling. So I had to get my mind going and think of what I had been eating (and to be very honest, I have been awesome with my eating since surgery)...but I was able to eat and drink so I didnt think anything could be terribly wrong....

So i realized that I may have had TOO MUCH CHEESE in the last few days....could I have eaten too much to cause lots of gas?? Does cheese cause gas?

Really learning something new everyday with this band.....

  3. Congrats to you!!!!! The first few weeks after surgery are the hardest. Even after your first fill, sometimes the restriction still isnt there. I had my surgery on Oct 13th, and have lost almost 35 lbs!! In the beginning I had great restriction, and actually thought my brain that tells me i want all that junk, was turned off.....thats the HONEYMOON stage!!! Right now you are kinda in BANDSTER HELL!!!! you have a new lap-band probably with nothing in it yet, and now its just time to stay motivated and on track!! you can do it.....I have actually only had one 2cc fill and don;t feel ANY restriction now.....but I stay motivated and just keep remembering that there is a light at the end of this tunnel!!!!

Happy to hear you are healing and more comfortable!! It gets sooooo much better, and when you start to see the difference with your weight loss, you feel soooooo much better!! Happy new year....Happy new you!!! godd luck!!

  4. ok so i had my surgery almost 3 months ago and happy to say that i am down 35 lbs!!!! i have been sooo motivated and eating all the right things and, although there is always temptation, i have told myself time and time angain that this is my new life, and a new way of looking at food....

on that note, i had my first epispde of GETTING STUCK.....WOW thought i was having a heart attack...ate a crab ragoon and 10 mins later had massive "chest pain" (as i like to call it) and really felt like i was gonna die :) I have NEVER felt that way b4 ...even while in labor AND the delivery of 3 kiddies over 9 lbs (not all at the same time...) WORST pain of my life...thank god it was over in 40 mins....

well, last nite i had TERRIBLE pains which felt like post-op gas/swelling we all know too much about....after about 8 hours of dealing with this, I realized it was gas pains and that I had been drinking from a straw for the last few days...(I'm in loooove with unsweetened ice tea from WaWa or Dunkin donuts) Then I remembered NO STRAWS.

WOW.,....never thought a straw could do soooo much damage.

moral of the story....STAY AWAY FROM STRAWS and REALIZE EVERY OUNCE OF FOOD THAT GOES INTO YOUR BODY......lesson learned:thumbup:

  5. hi!! I DID CANNED HORMEL TURKEY CHILI (1/2 CAN IS A SERVING) AND PUREED IT, ADDED SOME SHREDDED CHESSE ON TOP, MICROWAVE, THEN ADD SOUR CREAM ON TOP!! YUMMY...LIKE AN ENCHILADA MINUS THE WRAP!! AND ALOMST 20 GM PROTEIN IF NOT MORE!! GOOD LUCK!

  6. hi congrats on the band!!!!! lets see....when i was post-op, i did full liquids for one week, which included protein shakes, sugar free jello/pudding/popsicles....then i was on puree for a week....like tuna/chili/scrambled eggs....put it in a little food chopper!! Next came mushy for 2 weeks and that was just like puree but didnt have to be blended.....its a lil' confusing, but for a month you really just have to watch what goes into your NEW stomach!!! chew chew and remember to take it SLOW.....im now 6 weeks after surgery, down 25 lbs, and on regular food. But I still have to take it really slow and be careful!!.....good luck girl!!! you can do it!!

  7. i TOTALLY believe that water, either drinking it or not, is the reasoning behind weight loss and gain. i have lost 20 lbs in my 4 week post-op period and the last fewd ays i have definitly been slacking in the water intake, and i weighed myself...and BOOM...gained 2 lbs. Have been eaiting great, not that time of month....I just know my body and what i dont give it (water) it gives me (POUNDS)!!! GGRRRRR.......

  8. well doll...i wouldnt say you are going to fail....BUT the full liquid stage is probably the hardest stage to deal with and you REALLY have to be motivated and committed to even get to that point. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! do you have the protein powder stuff for shakes?? have 3 of them a day with some sugar free jello/pudding/popsicles in between and you will loose the 5 lbs. BE POSITIVE and BE STRONG!!!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

  9. U SURE ARE A LUCKY DOG!! I LOOVE READING THESE BLOGS...I FIND THEM VERY INSPIRING!! I AM 4 WEEKS OUT, DOWN 20 LBS, AND ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT MY LOWEST WEIGHT OF ALL TIME, THIS IS THE HEALTHIEST I FEEL AS THOUGH I HAVE EVER BEEN!!! I SAID GOOD-BYE TO DIET PILLS, MOVED ONTO THIS BAND THAT WILL BE MY TOOL TO A LIFE OF HEALTHY EATING!! THANKS FOR THE WORDS...THE TRUTH, THAT EVERY DAY REALLY IS A STRUGGLE, AND THAT TOGETHER, WE CAN ALL SUCCEED!!!

  10. WELL HELLO....I AM 4 WEEKS OUT NOW AND I CAN CHUG A LUG ALL DAY LONG. IN FACT I AN SITTING HERE DRINKING CRYSTAL LITE AS IF IM A CAMEL. I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM DRINKING,,,,OR EATING FOR THAT FACT. I HAVE YET TO "CHEAT" AND EAT ANYTHING OUT OF THE PROTEIN-RICH DIET IM SUPPOSED TO BE EATING, AND I AM A CRAZY SWEET PERSON. I LOOOVE ME SOME CANDY, COOKIES, CAKES ALL THAT STUFF WE ALL LOOOVE. BUT SO FAR I HAVENT HAD ANY PROBLEMS TOLERATING ANY AMOUNTS OF FOOD OR DRINKING. THE ONLY TIME I EVER PAID ATTENTION WAS WHEN I FIRST CAME HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL AND NOW I JUST DRINK WITHOUT EVEN THINKING ABOUT IT. OF COURSE I STICK TO THE "NO DRINKING 10 MIN B4 EATING/ 30 MIN AFTER EATING" RULE. I DO FEEL A RESTRICTION WITH THE FOOD, BUT HAVE YET TO GET SICK/SLIME OR PB. AND AS FAR AS BREAD IS CONCERNED, I HAVENT EVEN TRIED IT YET! WHO WOULD HAVE EVER THOUGHT I WOULD GO A MONTH WITHOUT BREAD!! WELL, HOPE THIS HEPLS!!

  11. Ok so here I am 4 weeks out and in 2 weeks will get my first fill....THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING:huh2: I had seen in many blogs that most bansters had to be liquids for a day....then mushies for a few days, then return to regular food. IS THIS TRUE????

I got on the horn to call my dr'c office to change my appointment, because there was NO WAY IN HELL I was gonna be sippin' on a protein shake on Thanksgiving, regarless if its turkey flavor or not (ewww....i know)

SOOOO my doc's office said that that was a big misconception with fills.....and NO i did not have to be on liquids the first day after a fill......WHAT????? thats all i have been hearing on here and now they said NO I dont???

I;m just looking for a few opinions of AFTER THE FIRST FILL......I certainly dont wanna be drinking my turkey in a few weeks!! HELP!!!

  12. Hey there....I am now post-op 3 weeks and feeling amazing..lost 17 lbs!!! I only had a one day pre-op, so if yours is longer, I can understand your frustration. Apparently you are allowed protein shakes, so I reccomend ordering UNJURY protein powder. YUMMY...chocolate and vanilla. Staples I have used since post-op, and to this day I am still having one a day. It is BANSTER HELL that you are in, but think of the light at the end of the tunnel...a thinner, healthier, happier you.... And it can also prepare you for immediatly following surgery which you will be on full liquids for a time.

You just have to set your mind to it and keep the faith. YES it is hard...trust me, I have 3 kids who went trick or treating and now I have nothing but loads of candy in front of me and I have yet to have ONE piece. It's all about will power!!!

Coffee isnt gonna cut it for you because, if allowed, you need some sort of protein to fill you up. You will soon see how you CAN do it!!! BE POSITIVE!!! This is a life-changing event you are embarking on and you need to be prepared....for all of its stages. You can find on here helpful info, recipes, and other issues you may be going thru or need help with!!!

    YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. :glare:Ok so here I am almost 3 weeks out of surgery, and while I have lost 15 lbs, I still havent returned to work yet. I am a neuro-trauma ICU nurse and I work 12 hour shifts on a very busy floor in Philly. Sometimes my patient load can be very heavy....2 patients weighing 250+ pounds each at times is a little stressful on the body!!!

My situation is this.....I was to return to work today and I got soooo anxiety-filled that something was going to happen to my port or my band if I return to work not feeling 100%. I know that feeling of something foreign in my body will probably not go away for a long time (if ever!!), but I just nervous that I am going to do some damage to myself while in this fragile state of healing.

I currently have a 25 pound 9 month old that I'm not supposed to be carrying around (yeah like that;s a possibility!!) so now I'm wondering if work is just gonna be too much right now. I do have a great group of co-workers that are extremly helpful and I am prepared to explain to them that I NEED HELP, BUT AT THIS TIME IN MY LIFE, I CAN;T BE A HELPER :)

So I'm looking to see if there is anyone out there that had any problems going back to work after surgery, and if there is a possibility that anything could cause harm to the band???

Or if there are any nurses out there who may have been in this situation....how didi u deal with it??

Thanks for all the support in advance!!

    Go weight loss!!

  14. hay congrats!!! i read your posts alot and i have to be honest...they give me inspiration every day!!!! i am 2 weeks post-op and actually not doing tooo bad. It helps that I am super motivated and havent cheated ONCE!!! (I even just made some cupcakes~which b4 band I would have licked the cake batter till I was stuffed...and didnt taste a drop of it!!!) I dont feel as though I am depriving myself...just traveling a new path to a better me and I dont need tiny pitfalls just yet. I know a day will come when having a cupcake (just ONE) will be ok, but now I only have one thing in mind...a better me!! thanks for all your words of wisdom...and again CONGRATS to you!!!! You go girl!!!!

  15. hey there....i had terrible gas pains beginning the day after surgery while i was still in the hospital...the nurse told me to walk and take gas-x chewables....and to be honest...it did FINALLY go awat after almost a week....subsiding a little more each day. I think that was the worst part of all of this!!!! hang in there....it gets soooo much better!!!! welcome to the Banster Club!!!
