messed up
Hi Kat. Thanks so much for the info. I know I can do better today. I am so aware of it now. They told me nothing after midnight tonight. I will be going to bed around 9-10pm so I will do good on that. My surgery is early at 7:30am and I have to check in at 5:30am. So, that is interesting some people didn't have fastings. That makes me feel a little better that I didn't ruin it totally. I feel into that temptation trap! I will make sure to follow it to after too. I am hoping with the restrictive device it will be a little better. THANKS

messed up
Hi. I have my surgery tomorrow. I had to have two days of clear liquids, and yesterday drank 10 ounces of magnesium citrate to help clear the bowels (per doctor instructions). I did good all day yesterday except I sucked on 4 candy kisses last night. Then this morning I wanted a tastier broth so I heated up chicken noodle soup and I was doing good with the broth (much better than just plain chicken broth) and I ate 1 spoonful of the noodles and carrots. Do you think that is really bad? I gave in to temptation. :cry Now I am a little concerned I ruined my fast. I know it wasn't that much, but there has to be a reason they want your bowels cleaned out. Anyone cheat on their liquid fast?

Banded today! (1/31)
Oh, by the way, I have to stay in the hospital one night and it looks like a lot of you get released the next day. I have to do a fast of Clear liquids, along with one 10 ounce bottle of magnesium citrate, two days before the surgery. Then the day of the surgery I don't get anything to drink, not even ice chips, until the next morning when they check with an x-ray or something to make sure the Fluid goes through. They said because of swelling possibilities is why they wait until the next morning to check. Anyway, after that I have to be on clear liquids for about 5-7 days until my first doctor apt. Then I go to regular liquids. Then after a week of regular liquid, two weeks of mushy foods.

Banded today! (1/31)
Hey someone said, for the gas pains, that if you lay down and with a pillow and then put your butt in the air, by being on your knees, that will help the gas pains because gas rises. I am not sure if it works, but I think it is worth a shot. On the ibuprofen, I was told not to take any ibuprofen after surgery because it tears at the stomach. It can cause ulcers when sitting too long. I have my surgery this Thursday. Did my pre-op stuff today. Can't wait!!! Good to hear all of you are doing good.

Question about Recovery
Shannon, do you have any advice for me about surgery? I will definitely try and work more. I have it next week. How are you adjusting to being on liquids? Are you hungry at all?

Can you gulp water or drinks?
Gulp would be like its a hot day and you drink 3 or 4 gulps of water from a water bottle or something like that. When your mouth is dry or what not. Hope that makes sense.

Can you gulp water or drinks?
Oh great. Thanks for the info! I thought I would have to sip all day long to get all the water I need in. Must just be for the first couple of months. I am having my surgery on 2-8...Very excited, but really nervous. I got kinda scared once I realized the time was here.

Can you gulp water or drinks?
I heard that after the surgery you can no longer gulp water...you know, like when you are really thirsty. Is this true? Or are stuck sipping everything?

Panic Eating
Hoddie This diet, do you have to go to clear liquids anytime before the surgery. I am having the surgery on the 8th and I don't have any liquid diet before except 2 days before clear liquids...popsicles, broth, jello...at the start of this two day liquid I take the magnesium citrate. So I was wondering if you have to do that too?

Question about Recovery
Thanks for the great info. Did you feel tired the first week? Some people say they are up doing normal activities a couple days after and some it seems it takes longer. I am sure it depends on the individual. I am hoping I can go back to work pretty soon after, but I won't push it. I have a desk job so I don't really have to do much moving around.

Panic Eating
Hi 1bunni4me. I am having those mixed emotions right now too. I am being banded on 2/8. I keep thinking of the worst things and getting more emotional when I think of my kids and I hope I stay safe, you know. I am feeling better reading this board though. I am feeling more encouraged. I wish my surgery was this week. I would love to hear an update from you after the surgery to see how it all went and what you think and feel. I think, with me, it is all the unknown stuff on what it is going to be like. The concept that I am not going to be hungry like I am now seems wierd to me. My friend had it done and she swears she is NEVER hungry. She had it done 9 months ago and is at goal. Lost 75lbs and now a size 4. Look forward to hearing all about your journey too!

Starting preop diet soon.... any suggestions?
Oh my! Down 90 lbs in 6 months. CONGRATS!!! Good for you! I think this website is great. It has helped me to continue to feel I am doing the right thing. I am 322, 5' 9". My goal is about 165/170 from what the doctor said. My highest was a 333. Did you lose a bit in the first month from being on the liquid and soft foods for the first month?

Panic Eating
I only have a two day clear liquid diet, started off with magnesium citrate, 10 ounces, two days before surgery. I keep seeing this two weeks, but my doctors at Valleycare Weightloss Center in Pleasanton, CA say there is no need for anything longer. Valleycare has been rated one of the highest weightloss centers in united states, from what I read. So I guess it is just different with different ones. I am getting banded on 2/8. Anyone who wants to be my buddy is welcome to send me messages.

Starting preop diet soon.... any suggestions?
My preop diet is 2 days, what is yours? I have to drink magnesium citrate, 10 ounces, in the morning two days before the surgery and then clear liquids until night before surgery. Surgery is Feb 8th. I have to have no liquids, not even ice chips, the entire day of the surgery. I can't have any fluids until the next morning after they do the x-ray to make sure there is no blockage. Then I have to have 6-7 days of clear liquids, after that my doc will let me know if I am on to mushy or not. Just curious if you have the same preop?

Question about Recovery
Hi there. I have my surgery on Feb 8th. So how was it the first day of surgery. I was told I can't have anything to even drink that day, even ice chips, until the next morning when the do an x-ray to make sure everything is ok. Did you have to do that? What is the pain from? Does it feel crampy?

I have a date for surgery
Hi All! Ya, I would love to keep in touch. I can let you know how things went with me. So far, they have told me that I need to do clear liquids two days before the surgery. They said that I can have jello, popsicles, broth, etc. I also have to drink a magnesium citrate of some sort that helps my bowels clear up. That is what I have to do the morning I start my two day liquids before surgery. They said that I after my surgery on the 8th, I will not be allowed any water, or even ice chips, that day, until the next morning when they take me to do an x-ray to make sure there is no blockage. They did say I can rinse my mouth out at least. So, it will be strange. Then I was told to be on the clear liquids for 5-7 days, until whenever my first follow up with surgeon is. If he feels good then I can go to mushy foods for I believe about 2 weeks. I have to read over everything again. I am meeting with the surgeon today to discuss all the preop things. Should be interesting. I have a lot of questions. So I will share with you what he said. I am having it done at Valleycare Weightloss in Pleasanton, CA. They have a great reputation. It is only 15 minutes from my house. So, that will make it nice. They said I will spend one night in the hospital. Look forward to hearing everyone else's info too. Oh, my name is Audra, by the way. I am 35.
