  5. Hi, Don't listen to anyone.... You are who you are. Your weight or the way you look doesn't define YOU! Your heart, personality and how you treat others, defines you. Remember that. I'd turn a blind eye and laugh at them... they'll be wondering how you did it when you get down in weight... Don't tell them!! lol.. Take care of yourself.

    5 days Post Op

Hi, The operation day came around pretty quick, l had to be at the hospital by 10:30 am on Friday 6th Nov for admission. l had my last Optifast drink at 7:00 am in the morning, then l carried out a few jobs around the house, because l knew l would not be doing them for some time, being sore. My DW drove me to the hospital, we did all the paper work, then went to the Pre Operation room where l changed into my lovely butt bearing gown. Then they fitted my legs with some TED socks & air pressure type bandages for the Blood circulation, so I wouldn't get D.V.T. Then l played the waiting game, finally the surgeon & the Anth. stuck their head in to check up on me. l was going to be the second person for that afternnoon. Waited some more, finally they wheeled me away at 2:00 pm. They took me to the Operating room and l went to sleep. l can remember being wake around 4 pm. l was very sleepy for the next 5 hours in & out. About 10:00 pm l had a little water and walked to the toilet in my room. At 11:00 pm, l went to sleep and awoke about 5:30 am the next day. Surprisingly, l had no major pain in the stomach or shoulder. l got disconnected from my machines, went to the toilet and had a some apple juice. Later on l had breakfast; coffee, jelly & juice - they all went down well. About 11:00 am l went for a good walk around the hospital. 12 noon l had lunch- Chocolate milkshake and some more juice. After that the surgeon came and saw me, all was good and said that l could go home. l got home Around 3 pm and rested for the rest of the day while watching TV. Saturday night l slept well. Sunday l went for a little walk around the block, rested and took my liquids. In the afternoon, l started to feel some shoulder pain but it was not that bad, later in the day my upper arms got very sore, I ended up taking some pain tablets for that half way through the night so that I could sleep. Monday & Tuesday l took it easy. The weather has been much hotter than normal for this time of the year. l'm drinking mainly Juices, coffee, milk shake & some soups. Sometimes, l feel that l'm drinking too much and get full and will not have any thing more for a least 4 hours and the fullnesss feeling passes. I weighed myself today - I'm 3.5 kg/7.7lbs down from the morning of the surgery. l think that that is a lot, however I am not feeling hungry. I'm sleeping on my sides at night with no pain, which is good as I thought that may be an issue. Thats all for this week..... Hope you enjoyed the read. Take care and look after yourselves. 13. Hi Melloways,

How are you coping now with the pre op diet now, l know what you mean about the food smells last week at work while l was eating my salad and few of the other all walked in with chicken & chips. l almost cried. l'm hanging in there, counting the days. l have been sticking to the diet except some time a might have more vegetables than l should.

At the support group last week one of the ladies said how with her veges that she would stir fry them with a spray of oil and add some soya sauce, So l have taken on that on board and twice this week l have had vegetable stir fry from the chinese restuarant when we have been out & about. They taste much better. l weigh myself for the first time friday morning for a week, since strating the dite and l have lost 4.8kg/10.5lbs

    5 more days to go.

All the best and if it helps take one day at a time

Hi, l thought it might be a good idea to keep a small blog on how l'm travelling. l have seen some pretty wonderful blogs out there, mine will be short and sweet. So a little bit about myself first. l'm 45 y.o. 179cm/5'11", 137kg/300 lbs at my heaviest 2 weeks ago,and my BMI is 42. l decided to get the band because l have slowly put on weight every since being a teenager. l have tried a few weight loss products but soon fall off the wagon. l have researched the lapband and have decided to get it and also become committed to a life style change. Last week, l started on the 2 week optifast pre OP diet, the fisrt few days l was feel a bit off, with headaches & stomach adjusting to the shakes, detoxing. l soon got over this. On Friday 23rd Oct, l started with a weight of 135.6kg/298.3lbs, l had lost a little from the following 2 weeks, l plan on only weighing myself once a week so that l'm not too obsessed with the weight loss. On Friday morning, l had lost 4.8kg/10.5 lbs, WOW in one week .That's Biggest Losers Numbers. My liver should be well shrunk by next Friday 6 th Nov, in time for my operation. This week l'm sure that my stress levels will go up as the Surgery date gets closer, l will have to try and keep busy to keep my mind off of it. Thanks for reading and am open to getting heaps of messages..... Take care.... :crying:

  16. l have just finished day 7 of 14 of the Optifast diet:thumbdown:. On the second & third day l was feeling a bit off(head aches & my stomach feeling weird) but that soon passed. l'm tring to mix up the diet with different flavours, chocolate & vanilla shakes, chocolate & berry crunch bars, The berry bar is much better than the choco one, l'm allow 2 cups of veges a day. Tonight l went to a chinese restuarant and had the vegetable stir fry which was nice. Tomorrow morning l weigh myself for the first time. l'm only going to weigh myself once a week, so that l'm not going to do my head in with extra worry:lol:. It's all for the better. Even though l have not done this myself, I have heard that adding super cold Water (from the fridge) or ice cubes to the shake make it alittle more bearable and if the consistency is too think for you, add alittle more cold water. All the best. Hang in there.... remember the shakes are only short term..... and remember to visualise the new you at a smaller and healthier weight... THAT is your goal and YOU can do it!!!

  18. Hi Melloways, we are both getting banded on the 6 th November. We will be going through the same issues together, Today is day 3 of pre op diet. l'm having a mixture of the optislim Shakes & a bar with some salad.

l'm doing OK so far, slight headache may be from the detoxing, l have cut back on the coffeee too, l'm only allowed black coffee with no sugar.

  19. l'm booked in for Friday 6th. November. l started the shake diet yesterday. It's going to be a long 2 weeks to reach the surgery date. All the best for everyone getting banded soon.
  20. G'day all, l'm from Melbourne, Australia and l have just finshed going through the research stage :eek:of finding out just about everything that l could on the lap band, on the internet & talking to people that have been banded as well as seeing the doctors at the lap band clinic, the positives most definetly out way the negatives. l'm 45 years old. 137 kg/301 lbs & BMI of 42. l do need a Cpac machine for sleeping for at least the next 4 weeks. l start my optislim shakes this friday, so tomorrow night will be the last of the old sizes meals and the old ways forever. One large door closes & the new slimmer door opens. l have only told one person at work so far, about getting the band, he is my boss. So that l can organise my time off work. l have also told my parents they are supportive of me. l do not wish to advertise it yet. l'm sure later on when l have lost a lot of weight l will tell people about the band. This site is so great for banders to talk to each other, get support & ask questions about anything. Wish me luck:thumbup:
