  1. For the past 2 months, we've spent lots of time in the "pre-op" forum.... but we're all quickly moving into the post op category - YAY US! Check in here and let everyone know how you are doing! :bored:
  2. Hard to say since everyone is different... Im two days out and couldn't imagine being ready to go back on Monday, but in 5 days I might be ok.... I am a counselor, so I basically have a desk job, but the getting up and down is the worst part. Once I'm sitting, I am ok.
  3. The pain is a tiny bit better, but still bad. THe gas is just about gone. Only feel it now and again. But the stomach muscle pain is ridiculous. I have Dilautid for pain. I take tylenol in between, but the meds really don't seem to help much. I am sleeping in my bed, but the getting up and down is killer. Yesterday, I managed to get down 22 oz of Protein shakes (32 gr protein) and 20 oz of clear liquids. It's SUPER hard to get the liquids down. I am working a bit faster today, so hope to get to 32 and 32. My nose is horribly dry from the oxygen - if you have a humidifier at home, you might want to use it the first day or two. I feel absolutely no restriction, but my dr said the band wasn't even really touching my stomach yet because my anatomy was pretty small in comparison. I would guess that means I'll get a fairly large fill at my first.
  4. I have crohn's disease so i take 18 pills a day - 2 of them are tiny, the other 16 are all the same - about the size of the metal end of a pencil (not including eraser) and i usually take them 4 at a time, 4 times a day. yesterday after surgery, the doctor had me take one with thim there. it went fine. he suggested i take one per hour every waking hour for the next few days. its gone fine today. he said after a few days, i should be able to take them 4 at a time.... just a few minutes apart each. after fills, he suggests the same one an hour approach. this medication is the ONLY formulation, no liquids, crushables, etc. seems good so far, keeping my fingers crossed.
  5. Hi all! Surgery Day was yesterday, so I am officially banded! Went in at 6:30AM. Surgery started promptly at 8. I remember looking at the clock in recovery and it was 9:09. At 11:30, I had an upper GI. Everything looked good. Pain wasn't too bad at that time, but I was definitely juiced up! Went back to surgery suite after upper GI and was allowed to leave at 1:00. The pillow on the belly definitely helped during the 2 hour car ride home. Gas pains were pretty bad. I was taking the Gas X strips as suggested on here, but DR said they only help bowel gas and since the gas was in my body cavity, they wouldnt help. But I'm taking them anyway! :scared2: Home pain med is Dalotid (sp). Takes the edge off but thats about it. I have 5 incisions and the one I assume is the port (about 4 inches above belly button) is CRAZY BAD PAINFUL! I slept pretty well last night on my back, even though I am a side sleeper. Getting up and down is the worst - like my stomach muscles have been beaten and shredded and stabbed. Wait - they have! Seriously, stomach muscle pain is BAD. Took me a good 5 minutes to get out of bed. Not so bad just sitting around. And once I am up and moving, I am ok, as long as I hunch a little. Words of advice - definitely bring chapstick and a small pillow and SUPER STRETCHY pants - like pjs 3 sizes too big! And ask for ice chips immediately. Throat hurt from intubation, but is almost normal today. I was able to get down about 15 ounces thoughout yesterday afternoon/evening. Today, I've had 11 oz Protein shake and am working on Clear liquids now. I feel like I'm constantly drinking! I hope the stomach pain begins to subside soon.... Good luck to all as their surgeries approach! Hard to believe it's over!
  6. I just opened a Muscle Milk Light chocolate for "lunch". ICK! Tastes like spoiled chocolate milk. EWWWW. READY MADE: EAS is the best I've had so far. Atkins isn't too bad, but a bit watery with a slight chemical aftertaste. Slimfast high Protein is the next I will try. POWDERS: I have Chike, unjury, and Bari Care to try - all flavors of each. Hope these are better than this muscle milk!
  7. I'm so glad someone asked this! I've been wondering too, but too shy to ask! Of course, my boyfriend isn't too shy to ask me EVERY DAY - "how long do we have to wait??" haha! I guess it just depends on the pain/pressure, but glad to see it's not WEEKS! :w00t:
  8. This is what I have packed: comfy clothes sports bra chapstick flavored Water meds small pillow for holding against my belly Gas-x strips camera magazines laptop am I forgetting anything???
  9. To my fellow Nov 18 Knockouts - less than 24 hours to go! :w00t:
  10. HEY KNOCKOUTS! How's everybody doing? I'm anxiously waiting for Wednesday.... hard to believe in less than 48 hours this will all be a reality... How are our post ops doing? Pre ops? Anything new and exciting (or old and boring!) to share?
  11. Ketosis is when your body no longer has energy from carbs to burn, so it begins to burn fat instead for energy, which causes "ketones" to form. It is common in high Protein, low carb diets, such as Atkins, and most of our lovely "pre op diets". Sometimes, you will notice a change in your breath, or taste in your mouth. Sometimes sweat and urine smell different. Not necessarily bad, jsut different.
  12. I've noticed a few new Knockouts... WELCOME! I am creating a spreadsheet of all November Knockouts that we will try to update each month. 17. 12 DAYS FROM NOW I will be in the recovery room...probably begging for a Big Mac! kidding! I am soooo excited! SO, November Knockouts, how is everybody doing??!
  18. I have Crohn's disease and will soon (2 weeks!!) be having Lap-Band. While searching for posts regarding this, I only found some from several years ago (2006) indicating Lap-Band and Crohn's was a NO NO. My surgeon did not seem worried.... Anyone else out there?
  19. Thanks! The surgeon doesnt seem too concerned, but I can't open these like other capsules or the medication wont work like it's supposed to. I see you are in Spotsy - strange coincidence - I work in Spotsy!
  20. Im on a few medications for a chronic disease, unrelated to weight, etc. I am very afraid that my medications will get "stuck" after I have the band. I take 16 of these capsules a day, approx. size is the "metal" tip end of a pencil (not including the eraser). I showed the capsule to my surgeon and he did not seem too concerned, but.... I am! Anyone have any problems with meds going down?
  21. Best of luck! You're right behind me.... let me count  18 days.... 18 hours.... and 55 minutes...... WOW!
  22. Never again will my THIGH measurement be bigger than a "regular" sized waist! Geesh!
  23. So last night, I started charting all my "pre-diet/pre-surgery" numbers... weight, measurements, BMI... And I was so not happy to realize that my THIGH alone is larger than most people's waists...WTH??? OMG I'm so glad I have finally made this decision!
  24. Even though you aren't a therapist... you are right on! You may very well go through the grieving process as well as strong emotional swings throughout the process. Consider what you (we) are doing - We've been so dependent on food that we have almost no other option than to have a surgical device implanted in our bodies. So for years, we have had NO CONTROL. And finally we make this drastic step to do something. To be IN CONTROL. And it's pretty damn scary because we STILL might fail. And although its "reversible", for the most part it's a lifetime commitment. And all we can think of is "What in the heck have I just done??" And all the self doubt we've had for years comes crashing back onto us. It's pretty overwhelming. Look for support in your friends and family and don't worry about those that will have snarky comments, etc. Remember, you did this for YOU. Not for THEM.
