Nice long post but hard to read, you should edit it and put in some paragraphs so more people can read it. Hurts the eyes.
Band or no Band I think you should come here for support and support others too. The Band does not work for everyone and everyone doesn't work with their Band. Lose it however you can safely. You can always message me if you need to talk.

I think there are different ways to say things. It just seemed a little mean FLORIDAYS . . . hey look at your weightloss, you DO seem to know how to work with the Band. Congratulations on your weightloss it is GREAT!. And I take back my mean remark now since I reread everything.
Sometimes we need a "nice understanding" post and some with "lots of advice" and of course the "Kick in the Butt". I have needed the "kick in the butt" many times.myself, I have also given the "kick in the butt" reply to others.
I am not enabler, I just felt a connection with her words. Sometimes we need to be welcomed in before we get the kick in the butt. I did not baby her I told true facts. She was angry at a lot of people including herself, no Doctor should talk that way, unless they were sitting at the next table by you at pizza Hut and watched you down a whole pizza. I would not put up with an unprofessional Dr. I would leave. After the past 3 years being banded and on the message board. I have seen a lot of people that were treated that way and thought it was normal.
My Dr saw all his LapBanders and did their fills himself not a nurse or PA. He was ALWAYS respectful and nice and very encouraging. Wish everyone had that. We should all be nice and help each other. With written words it is hard to know the what the same words spoken would sound like.

I agree, find a new doctor! Don't let yourself be miserable just because your doctor was an unsupportive jerk. I drive almost 2 hours each way to see a good doctor and I can tell you, it makes all the difference in the world. A good doctor is concerned about his/her outcomes and wants to see the patients succeed and will work with you to help you through any issues you have. Good luck to you!

Okay it is Thursday Dec. 6. I have still been going ever day, at least 30 minutes, sometimes 45 and about 4 times an hour. Pants are feeling loose and it gets easier each time. Good for my mind and body.

Transitioning to mushies from liquid will cause weight gain if you are eating the wrong mushies. What are you eating?
It's been a bad three months hasn't it? But three months in the band world is nothing! Like they said, be patient. Can you switch to Dr. Garza?
My gutt (pardon the pun) tells me that although your story was long and detailed, that there is more to the story.
Take it easy and do some soul searching...

". I recently went to the my main doctor for a 3 month check up and saw my weight at it was 232 pounds and something just clicked...that I need to continue losing weight and get rid of all the negativity and let go of the past. There was a time when I thought of revision to gastric bypass or gastric sleeve but I don't think that I could do this all over again."
All of this happened in just 3 mths? You're giving up on the band after just 3 months? The biggest thing I wished someone had told me before getting banded was to HAVE PATIENCE. You didn't put the weight on overnight, you're not going to take it off overnight either. It was 4 months and 3 fills later when I started losing weight. The first 4 mths, I lost maybe 3 lbs. I ate whatever I wanted to, however much I wanted to. Thought I had failed yet another diet. Till that 3rd fill. Then the magic happened.
Your dr does sound like an ass. But you need to have a little more patience and take your time losing this weight. The band, while not working for very few people, works for most people who give it an honest try. I'm not a poster girl for the lapband - I don't follow all of the rules 100% of the time. But I do love my lapband and attribute it to losing almost 100 lbs. In fact, I'm probably one of the most lax lapbanders out there (I eat carbs, drink soda, and eat plenty of sugar) and it worked for me. For someone who follows the rules, I'm sure it's an even better tool.
Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone, there's people here you can vent to. Also, just to remind you to have patience. I promise you, it WILL work eventually. AS soon as you get the perfect adjustment, eat within the tiny portions you can eat, exercise, and have faith YOU WILL LOSE. I also have hypothyroidism and take Synthroid (have for about 10 yrs now), but I know that it makes little difference to my weight. I lost about 4 lbs when I started taking the thyroid pills. I knew that my 250 lbs wasn't because of my thyroid, it was because I ate too much! Good luck to you. Keep us posted!

I ride a Harley, so I'd like a pair of leather chaps to wear over my tight jeans and a tight leather vest. I be one sexy grandma!
Everyone will be saying "damn, did you see that old lady". She looked hot! LOL

Do you know, I got there quite a few years back now and wear mostly whatever I like to wear - although we all have some limitations and some things that just dont suit us. What is really really good though is not having to shop in fat stores. I still appreciate the freedom of being able to shop anywhere - particularly my one or two favourite designers and being able to go on holidays and fossick around in resort towns and stuff like that.
I'm not even taking my old bikinis to Thailand in a few weeks - can buy nice new ones there! I never could have dreamed of doing that with anything, let alone bikinis.
For me anyway, this was one of the BEST things bout weigh loss - I wasnt on medication, nor did I have any real comorbidities. But not being able to buy nice clothes was a truly dreadful dilemma!

I was banded 3 years ago next month and when I get off track (often) I have to start again. I am on day 3 of staying on track so join me. Go get your fill whatever your Dr says is only words, get your fill and move on. It would be nice if your Dr was encouraging but if not just suck it up and go get it and start over. Words won't hurt you but not getting a fill and starting over will.

I too am starting over.. I got the lapband my insurance at work paid for it..right after the surgery I was laid off...so I never went back for a fill and it took me 8 months to find a job. I only lost 13 lbs and was completely upset I though this would solve my problems with weightloss...I ate small meals but often did not really follow rules and recently I just took a hard look at myself and realized I was not thinking about it as I should. Lapband is a tool to help with weightloss not the solution...the solution was I had to want to lose it.. So I ended my pity party and pulled up my big girl panties and started over it was hard at first and I also got a fill and went back to my regular doctor yesterday got complete blood work and going to give this a go again. For me I have to just move forward no longer beat myself up for my failures but congratulate myself for starting over...Good luck!!!!

Sigh. Look, I have just accepted that I an "sick", suffering from obesity and I always will be.
There will never be a time when I eat what I want when I want and stay thin. I will always struggle with wanting to eat more than I can burn off. I think it comes from both sides of the equation - hightened appetite with slower metabolism.
I could be diabetic, could have a rare genetic order, or Parkinsons or lupus or epilepsy and I would need medical attention and medication to manage that condition for life. I dont suffer from those diseases, I suffer from obesity. Thankfully, with a positive attitude,I have a damn good tool for managing it. Like any disease, some periods of my life I will manage better than others. I have gotten too skinny, I've regained more than I wanted, I've been in despair becuase although my body is no longer fat, I have had weeks of eating chocolate till I want to puke, or let my insane carb and sugar addiction take over again. But it is always possible to get back on track.
Thank god I love to run, spin and go to the gym. It really really helps. And if you dont love it, well do it anyway. Unlike eating, exercise IS all about willpower. If you're able bodied then you can and should be doing it. And pushing hard.
I think the sooner we all face up to that harsh reality, the sooner we can stop beating ourselves up over what we perceive as moral failings, and start the business of managing a disease.

Smkeller, you sound like you have an axe to grind, don't grind it on the Big Book. I have it, and although I have not read the whole thing, it is very informative and not out of date. If you don't like it here, no one is forcing you to stay. Alex started this site as a help for others and probably to keep himself on track. We are self-help group, but always, advise to seek medical attention. I am not sure where you receive your information. Good luck, to you. karen
